Late Self-Portraits is a short but fierce collection of poetry from Mary Morris. The poetry covers a range of themes from grief/loss to parenthood to religion to history to physical health. The style is crisp and lyrical and forms were straightforward and enjoyable to read.

My absolute favourite poems in this collection are the ones in which Morris talks about her health, describing seizures and doctors appointments and historical figures who also had seizures as well. As a chronically ill disabled woman I really connected with these poems and identified with them even though I don't specifically have seizures. I'm constantly hoping for more poetry in which poets talk about their illnesses and disabilities, so this was an aspect I was looking forward to.

While I liked and appreciated the poems about subjects other than health/disability and history, I didn't really connect with them on an emotional level. Other readers may find the poems I didn't connect with to be far more to their taste than mine, so don't let my lack of enthusiasm for the other poems deter you.

Overall, Late Self-Portraits is a collection I will remember as a great example of disability poetry, even if those are the only significant parts of it I recall. Recommended for anyone looking for poems about disability or history especially, but also worth reading if the other subjects included appeal to you.

I enjoyed this super short collection of poetry. I felt like the formatting was pretty good, something I don't often day about poetry ebooks. Some of the poems were better than others, but I enjoyed every one of them.
