I confess I expected to learn more about the Maidens of Mayhem, especially as the first book was short of them.
But here, it is the tale of a damsel in distress and a man who acts like the female group is supposed, to save and rescue the abused.
They are only a shadow group and not much useful.
Delilah does not really acts like a miss raised in this era, I even wonder how nothing has befell on her before her run in the streets of Seven Dial.
She is like a pup among wolves.
Yet she persists and signs, putting herself on harm way and impeding at every turn the search for the stolen boy.
St Allen becomes unwillingly her knight in shining armor from the moment he saves her from a fate she does not seam to realize she might not have walked away alive.
After he is a man and she is a pretty thing, he is continually saving from herself, how not be bewitched by a lovely miss ready to endanger herself for the sake of a child.

While I found the romance quite cute if making abstraction of the era, I can at best understand how an illegitimate fellow is able to impersonate a peer, but there were risks if he was discovered, but working for the crown absolved him probably. But Delilah is said to be a lady, not being married, it means she would be the daughter of an Earl at least, but who was her father, how can she navigate the city all by herself when she is so new to the town. After her maid, mother of the missing child, I would say very unconventional to employ a single mother at such a post, I suppose she is a widow but there is not even one mention of a father for the kid. Delilah being a lord’s daughter, if she wanted her friend to be close by, she could have hired her as a companion instead of as a maid.
Then I do not really know if this was a regency set story, there is one or two time reference to the Prince Regent but the heroine struggled running because of her corset, but during this era women wore Stays, short or long.

I had to put the book for some time to let things rest, so if I was rating only the romance part, it would be a 3 stars but below as an historical finition.

Wow! This book was a pleasant surprise. I had read the first book in this series, Duchess If You Dare, and reviewed it with three stars. I saw much potential and promise in the series. I felt that there were some character believability/plot pace issues. I am happy to report that The Lady Loves Danger was everything I expected in an intriguing, eye-catching romance!

Both Sebastian and Delilah are solid, vibrant, relatable characters. Sebastian conceals his tragic past and present occupation yet one kiss from Delilah upturns his entire world. Delilah is new to the bustling, intimidating city. She suffers a traumatic loss and is determined to right the wrong. Delilah’s reserved strength and loving nature endeared her to me, yet it was her fierce determination and bravery that stole every scene.

Sebastian and Delilah’s connection was instantaneous. The couple’s attraction was off-the-charts yet still felt warmly romantic. The sweetly sensual scenes are a highlight. The couple’s fragile, burgeoning feelings grow in tandem with their growing respect. Although Sebastian battles with fear, he allows Delilah the freedom to be herself. At times the “I want her, but I am not good enough for her” theme was redundant; however, the couple’s beautiful, passionate journey made up for the angsty moments.

The plot had intent and purpose. The secondary characters supported and encouraged the story. There was a mystery that had me guessing at times. There were some loose ends. For example, what happened to Eva? I loved Sebastian’s back story. He was tough and strong yet held this uncertainty of his value when it came to Delilah. Once Delilah’s mind is made up, she goes full throttle for what she wants. I loved that aspect of her character.

The Lady Loves Danger is the second book in The Maidens Of Mayhem. This book fulfilled its promises of an exciting, page-turning romance. I am delighted to give this fantastic book a well-earned glowing review. I look forward to the next book in the series. Anabelle Bryant has outdone herself in writing a page-turning, fast-paced, passionate romance. This book promises even more excellence to come!

I am so enjoying the Maidens of Mayhem Book series. This is #2 book.

Lady Delilah is lovely and the character of Sebastian St. Allen is a curiosity of interest.

They meet while she is looking for a lost/stolen boy, which then starts the mystery, passion and fun between the hero and heroine.

It is a likeable story.

A kidnaped child, a dog and a diamond collar bring together Delilah Ashbrook, Sebastian St. Allen and The Maidens of Mayhem. Delilah ventures into Seven Dials alone. When attacked, she's unable to save herself and is rescued by Sebastian. She needs his help to find the missing child of her maid. Sebastian has ties to Seven Dials. As an intelligence agent in service to the Crown with his associates, it is their job to covertly solve crimes in London. Delilah refuses to be left out of Sebastian's investigation. He admires her strong will, but fears for her safety.
If he won't include her, The Maidens of Mayhem will. Sebastian tries to fight his attraction to Delilah. She won't deny it, but where can it lead? Their focus must remain on finding Oliver. What does a kidnaped dog with a diamond collar have to do with Oliver?
Pretty straight forward with little surprise on the ending. Of course, it is always nice how things work out for an HEA.
Heat level 4 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This was a fun story. I loved Delilah's innocence as well as her devotion to family and perseverance in finding Oliver. She realized the differences in country life and city life, the dangers, and the expectations. She walked a thin line. Sebastian worked to improve his life, coming up from basically nothing, and made it his goal to help protect and rescue children. His secret works led him to Delilah, and they collided in a wonderful way. At times, the story was full of danger and then witty banter. I enjoyed this couple, the story, and look forward to the next one.

I received an ARC through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

This was a really good, fast-moving book (although it was longer than I expected it to be), with great dialogue, description and emotion. Just the right amount of angst! I loved the main characters, Sebastian and Delilah! Their relationship was great and the romance very sweet! I liked the plot and the Maidens of Mayhem-- I won a copy of the first book in this series but have not had a chance to read, but now I totally am in to this great series. This could be read as a standalone, or if you are like me and want to read about the rest of the characters-- you'll want to read them all.

This regency romance is full of danger, intrigue, and lustful romance. It's well-written with a solid plot and characters that you want to root for their happy endings. It's perfect for a quick travel read, especially for fans of Bridgerton who want a bit more intrigue.

Lady Delilah has lost something dear. She must go undercover to find the missing one and she must ask for help from both a stranger and the Maidens of Mayhem, of which she will become a member..

Sebastian is able to navigate the not so pretty parts of London and rub shoulders with the ton.
When Delilah thwarts one of his jobs, he makes it his mission to help her, especially since working with her will enable him to find what he's looking for.

As they dance with danger, they find themselves attracted to each other, but they each need to learn to trust before it's too late.

The Maidens of Mayhem have one mission: to protect London's most vulnerable from abuse. This is what has Lady Delilah Ashwood searching for a boy she was meant to care for. Suspecting that the child was kidnapped, Delilah runs into a stranger, Sebastian St. Allen, who is also looking for the boy--though she's not entirely sure she trusts Sebastian's motives.

As Sebastian and Delilah look for the child, unsure of whether or not they can trust one another, they brush up against London's seedier side--and become increasingly intrigued by one another in the process.

I find the girl gangs fighting crime trend in historical romance charming, to be sure. I'm not a pearl clutcher who's going to say that it's perfectly believable that 1800s-era debutantes fell in love with rich, handsome men and had amazingly orgasmic sex all the time without getting pregnant... But them fighting crime is a bridge too far. I just don't know that I believed this story as much as I believed it when it came from another author, to be honest.

(And I don't mean this exact story--would never suggest that Annabelle Bryant was copying anyone! I just have seen this basic spin written by others, and it's worked better for me there.)

I think it's because Delilah just never worked for me as a heroine with gumption. She was charming and sweet, and I liked her. I like a girly girl fighting crime. But--I don't know. There was a level of removal I felt from her and Sebastian. If you've read other books in this series, or by Bryant (which I haven't) perhaps you would feel more of that connection. For me, it never quite came through.

I also was a bit frustrated by something I've been seeing a lot lately from historical romance authors--where the conflict between the couple is pretty low, but they insist that there is something (usually an objection from another party) keeping them apart. Rather than there being any grand gesture or exposure or forced moves, they just kind of... decide to confront the issue. And then it turns out that they were wrong, it's not actually a problem. The end!

I feel like this is kind of in line with the current "lighter, softer romance" vibe in the genre. But it's just not very satisfying to me. I want drama. I want people in a secret relationship to be forced to tell the truth, or to make a grand "running after you at the airport" type gesture. It's just a little too easily resolved here.

But don't get me wrong--this is a pleasant book, and it was nice to read. I think it would be a good option for those who like a bit of a cozy mystery, as well as a romance (though I would say--there are some serious issues touched upon. Delilah fully believes this child is in danger of being sold, and I feel like this cover doesn't quite match the intensity of that concept). I'm not sure if I'm that target audience, but I appreciate the story!

The Lady Loves Danger by Anabelle Bryant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As the second book in the Maidens of Mayhem this did not disappoint.
Lady Delilah Ashbrook has been searching for her maids son. She was put in charge of the boy only to have him apprehended in a confusing street situation
When Sebastian St. Allen comes forward to help her find the boy she accepts his help. Sebastian knows his way around the streets and many of his insights are prove fruitful. As these two work together their attractions for each other grows.
It is at this point this gifted author shines. She weaves her impeccable narratives. Ms Bryant is a master of romance that makes you want more.
This was a delightful book. I look forward to more from the Maidens of Mayhem.

The Lady Loves Danger by Anabelle Bryant is book Two in The Maidens of Mayhem Series. This is the story of Sebastian St. Allen and Delilah Ashbrook. Delilah is a young lady who has to move in with her aunt because she has no other family. Delilah's maid is her friend who has a young son that she happened to be watching when he was taking. Now Delilah is out to find that little boy so she heads to The Maidens of Mayhem for their help. Delilah ends up meeting Sebastian who has a mystery with him but he offers to help her too. Sebastian boarders on the good part of town and on the bad part of town which leads him to be able to enter both worlds. In addition because of that he is a agent for the Crown and investigates crimes of London. Something about Delilah draws him to her and they set off to find the little boy. Loved their story. I am huge fan of Ms. Bryant, so this was a must read for me.

I have never been shy of saying that I love Anabelle Bryant’s work, and The Lady Loves Danger simply proves (again) why I feel that way. In the second title of The Maidens of Mayhem series, we’ll meet one feisty young woman who isn’t the least bit afraid of facing down bad guys or putting herself in danger to save a young child. What may take her a little longer is to put her trust completely in the hands of a handsome stranger who “says” he’s only there to help when she’s convinced he’s holding back information from her.

Sebastian has his own code of conduct and can easily slip between the world of the ton and the gritter side of London where the unspeakable happens far too often. When he discovers that Delilah is also searching for the same young boy that he is it only makes sense to combine their efforts. Neither thought that this mystery would be packed so full of danger, misdirection, or would ultimately change their future.

I love a slow-burn romance and The Lady Loves Danger has that in droves. Delilah and Sebastian have trust issues, and it shows. Yet, while searching desperately for a missing boy, one pampered pup, and a diamond-encrusted collar they’ll discover that the attraction they’ve both been experiencing is about to burst through the surface.

The Lady Loves Danger is full of mystery, unexpected twists, a look at the underside of London during this time period, and two people who don’t trust easily but once they do they’re all in. I appreciate the strong heroines that Ms. Bryant writes about. I understand what young (and not so young) women of the time period were not expected to be able to face without swooning. Yet there are always exceptions to the rule. Delilah is one of those women who is paired with a man who is not afraid to acknowledge and encourage her spunk, her bravery. I love when the hero loves the heroine just as she is without needing to change something about her. If you love slow-burn romances with touches of danger, laughter, and steam… then this story is perfect for you.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Sebastian St Allen finds himself face to face with Lady Delilah Ashbrook when she is searching for her lady’s maids soon. Thinking that he might have been abducted, Delilah agrees to assist Sebastian so long as she is able to be involved in the search.
Delilah is a strong and mature woman who finds herself captivated by Sebastian, as she spends time with him. Sebastian is also fascinated by Delilah but as a character, he holds himself aloof and I found only with time, that I understood his character. This book has all the right elements, with romance plus some suspense. I did find the story a bit slow at the start, and I found that I had to keep reading, in order to fully appreciate the storyline. The characters were at times, quite distant, hence my inability to fully embrace the story, when I have always been a huge fan of Annabelle Bryant.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Anabelle Bryant is the Queen of Slow Burn Romance. By the time Delilah and Sebastian find their way to each other, I was practically begging them to be together.

The Lady Loves Danger is a fun story with several twists and turns. Oliver is a delightful addition; he is the child of Delilah's best friend and lady's maid who's disappearance spurs the story into action. I enjoyed how Delilah came to know the other Maidens of Mayhem and enlist their help in her cause. I liked how Sebastian sees Delilah for who she is and respects her all the more for her wit and intellect and her propensity for leaping into action regardless of the danger.

I'm loving Anabelle's use of strong heroines within the historical romance genre. I think women have been misrepresented for ages, Mainstream media is finally spotlighting strong women, women who made great contributions to society (oftentimes propping up their great men,) for their true minds and accomplishments. I love that Anabelle writes characters that, despite what traditional romance says 'ladies' should be, have spine and smarts and sass, and pants underneath their gowns.

Book two was a great companion to book one. I really enjoyed Delilah and St Allen as a couple. The author did a great job of building their relationship both personally and professionally. I thought the transition St Allen made from seeing Delilah as a run of the meal weak gentle woman to capable and daring was well done and believable.

The mystery itself felt a bit trite. The reader can guess pretty quickly what has happened and the outcome of our lasting mystery at 50%. I see what the author's intent was as we couldn't do missing child the entire book, but the second mystery could have been more veiled. The adventures were fun to explore, but it didn't seem necessary when it is immediately apparent to the reader what has happened. I suspended my belief for the sake of the story and do not regret doing so. Just was a fairly hard feat.

The steam was steamy. Just the right amount of pear clutching for this historical piece. I also love when a female lead knows what she wants and goes for it. Ten points for Delilah. Will be reading the next one.

In the second installment of the Maidens of Mayhem series, Delilah Ashbrook is searching for a boy that was kidnapped under her care. Her search brings her face to face with Sebastian St. Allen, a man on a mission to bring down the darkest parts of London. With the pair teaming up to find the boy, they can't seem to stay away from danger...or each other.

The Lady Loves Danger is a fun, regency romance filled with suspense and mystery. I enjoyed seeing the Maidens of Mayhem again in this book. Sebastian's plight to help the less fortunate was gallant and even though Delilah was a lady, she was not afraid to put herself in harm's way for what was right. While I did enjoy The Lady Loves Danger, I felt like the first book in the series was stronger. This one had a great storyline, but everything seemed to fall into place too easily and the chemistry between Delilah and Sebastian felt forced in places.

This was a well crafted story and romance filled with drama and desire. I loved the chemistry between Delilah and Sebastian, and they are well matched for each other and deep down need each other. A perfect couple and perfect happily ever after. A great second book in The Maidens of Mayhem series.

This is a fun, light read. The plot was interesting and I liked the romantic couple, Delilah and Sebastien. I did have to ignore some things, like the hero blithely walking into Whites where he wasn't a member, because he supposedly got lost in the crowd going in. (nobody walked into Whites without being vetted.) The "Maidens of Mayhem" , who are the subject of this series, supposedly organized to fight crime and defend the underprivileged but I didn't get how they were qualified to do that. They meet for tea and wander around together in slums wearing wool trousers without accomplishing anything. Maybe the real crime fighting happens in another book. The crime here was really used as a plot device for Delilah and Sebastien to meet and develop a relationship. But it did provide suspense that gave some depth to the story and kept me reading. If you're not a stickler for authenticity, you should enjoy this.

Hello! I have really enjoyed Annabelle Bryant's writing, and her work reflected in the Lady Loves Danger proves to be no exception. I had high expectations for this book and was really looking forward to this story and the romance between St Allen and Delilah. I have been on a hunt lately for excellent books with crafty, handsome, crime-solving heroes, and St Allen could certainly have been the star of his own movie. As well Delilah was strong and a good match for St Allen. The romance and chemistry were amazing. I would love to have had more details around the storyline, but I also liked this enough to read in one sitting. I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest opinion. Thank you!
