THIS BOOK IS JUST GOLD!!! The Last Mile by Kat Martin is book 2 in the Blood Ties, The Logans series and what an incredible read this was. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. This is Kat Martin at her best. What I just loved about this book was the looking for gold expedition, a grandfather’s dream and the slow romantic burn between Gage and Abby. You have got to love the Logan Brothers!! I am so looking forward to Edges’s story! Kat is one of the very best authors of today and she never disappoints. I could not put this book down. It is no wonder that she a New York Best Selling Author. If you have never read any of Kat’s books you are in for an adventure as well as a treat. I found this book easy to read, the character wonderful, original and as I said just incredible. It defiantly will keep you on your toes and this is a “just one more chapter” kind of book. I could not wait to see what was going to happen next and how it would end. This story has a map willed to Abby by her dead grandfather, a renowned explorer, a break in & being strangled, almost being kidnapped, hiring Gage to help find the gold, so many bad guys after the gold, a good friend and employee, a brother who is ex-military, protection, wild animals, danger at every turn, rescue on more than one occasion, a dark past that haunts them today, death, an accident, being tortured, a plane malfunction and falling in love. This book has it all and I am highly recommending you read this book.

Wow! This is the first book I've read by Kat Martin and it was amazing!
The Last Mile is a well-written, fast paced, romantic suspense that takes you an an exciting treasure hunting adventure!
Abby Holland inherits a treasure map from her late Grandfather whom was a treasure hunter, and she enlists Gage Logan's help to track down the treasure.
These two have instant chemistry from the start, but Gage keeps his distance due to some romantic troubles in his past.
Abby & Gage have an exciting and sometimes dangerous adventure along with some great secondary characters. I can't wait for the next book in the series! In the meantime I'm going to read book 1.

I could not put it down, and was sad when it ended. Such a great read!

Thank you to Kat Martin & NetGalley for the free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

A treasure map, a treasure hunter, the Devil’s Gold, suspense, romance and a lot of twists and turns.

Abby Holland inherits a treasure from her beloved grandfather, King Farrell. Farrell was a famed explorer and treasure hunter until he allowed his obsession for the Devil’s Gold to destroy his reputation. With map in hand, Abby vows to find the gold and restore her grandfather’s good name.

Knowing she is out of her league and that others will stop at nothing to steal her treasure map, she hires another professional treasurer hunter, Gage Logan, to help her.

Gage is skeptical but still intrigued by the map and Abby. At first, he tries to dissuade her expedition. But when he realizes she’s determined to go with or without him, he reasons that the least he can do is to keep Abby safe while she uncovers the hidden messages left by her grandfather.

Heat, flash floods, winds, and a host of bad guys compound the problems Abby and Gage encounter while racing across the Superstition Mountains following King Farrell’s clues. Their growing attraction to each other doesn’t help the situation.

Abby and Gage must decide if finding the Devil’s Gold and restoring King Farrell’s reputation is worth the danger they face.

The Last Mile by Kat Martin
2nd book in the Blood Ties series. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Abigail’s grandfather leaves her a treasure map in his will. She teams up with Gage to go on a treasure hunt where danger is around every corner.

Abigail makes it clear to Gage and the reader that’s she’s up for an adventure and brave enough to handle any issues. Gage has some issues to deal with from his past.
The suspense throughout the book is steady and chilling. The romance is steamy. A great addition to the lineup.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

This is my first book by Kat Martin though she has been an author I've been wanting to read for ages. This was fun. I especially enjoyed Abby's character. While not a professional treasure hunter she grew up with her grandfather who was so she knows her way around the business. She's intelligent and impulsive enough to want to go after the treasure but has enough common sense that she'll listen to sensible suggestions and advice. Her relationship with her grandfather also endeared me to her and I could understand her desire to be involved personally in this one big quest.

I didn't quite warm to Gage quite as much. He's smart and good at what he does. He's open about his attraction to Abby and his issues which I liked. However, he's just a bit over the top bossy and opinionated. He knows his treasure hunting stuff and is aware that he isn't infallible.

The pacing of this was just a touch off for me. There's a good bit of setup for the first third of the book or so and while it wasn't boring it wasn't as fast paced as I usually like my romantic suspense to be. This is technically part of a series but only in that Gage has two brothers who each have their own books. The stories are not really connected in any other way. This was a fun romantic suspense book and I thought the treasure hunting was a unique plot.

The plot sounded great—a young woman awakens to an intruder in her Denver home. Abby Holland knows the man is after a treasure map that she inherited from her grandfather, a well-known treasure hunter, King Farrell.

She’s determined to find the treasure Farrell searched more than a decade for in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains. She hires treasure hunter and explorer Gage Logan and together they set out to find the gold in the legendary Lost Dutchman’s mine.

Danger abounds—not only from the forces of nature but from greedy men who want the treasure for themselves. I don’t want to give away the plot, but the “adventure” doesn’t end in Arizona. By the time they got back to Denver, I was ready for the book to end—resolution or no resolution.

This book was supposed to have romance (which I didn’t realize before I began reading it) but it seemed more lust than love between the main characters. I also had a hard time connecting to the characters. Gage was arrogant and egotistical. Abby was headstrong and often made stupid mistakes.

I ended up skimming the last half of the book and couldn’t have cared less if they found the gold. This one just didn’t cut it for me.

Kat Martin's books are always fast pace adventures with morally strong, brave, smart, skilled and of course handsome characters. Most of the the books I have read, one of the main characters was a body guard, protecting a client or friend. But this one is totally different, as both main characters are looking for adventure and deliberately head into danger, which I had a hard time relating to, but still, they checked all of the characteristics that I listed above.

Abigail Holland was very close to and admired her grandfather, treasure hunter King Farrell. She is devastated when she is informed by his lawyer that he died and left her his house or his treasure map, but she had to chose which. She chose to sell the house to pay for the exploration to find The Devil’s Gold. He had hinted that she should hire renowned explorer and treasure hunter Gage Logan. Because of the lost of a previous client, Gage is very reluctant to let Abby to come along, but she makes it clear that if he doesn't, she will find someone else to guide her. There are several attempted assaults on Abby, so he moves her into his apartment, while they prepare their quest, both fighting the strong chemistry between them, but they must remain professional, right? lol

This is a page turning adventure, because one adventure morphs into another and we meet Edge, Gage's other brother, hero of the next book (?) and the woman that he is interested in. Note like I did that Abby never seemed to have questioned the lack of King's body.

I read an ARC offered n NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Romantic Suspense

Colorado, Arizona, and Mexico – Present Day

Abby Holland’s beloved grandfather died and left the majority of his estate to her, including a map to a gold treasure that he’d been searching years for. After someone breaks into her house in Denver, she knows someone is after that map and will go to great lengths—even kill her—to get it. Abby decides to hire help to search for the gold in the form of renowned treasure hunter Gage Logan. While he’s skeptical at first of her claim that the map will lead to gold bullions worth millions of dollars, he agrees to help her. But before they had barely begun, Abby is nearly kidnapped, and her apartment is broken into. Gage insists that she move in with him, which only ramps up the attraction that’s building between them. But neither can afford to fall in love with the other.

Gage and Abby set off for the remote mountains east of Phoenix. It’s soon apparent that the trouble from Denver has followed them. But nothing will stop their expedition into dangerous terrain as they follow the instructions outlined on the map. Along the way, their attraction grows stronger, even as the danger brings them closer together. Will Gage and Abby find what they’re looking for? Or is it a wild goose chase, even if the bad guys following them think they are being led to the pot of gold.

THE LAST MILE is full of action and suspense as Gage and Abby go from one adventure to another. Right from the start, there is a heightened awareness of attraction between them. But Gage has no intention of getting involved with Abby as he is still reeling from the death of a woman years ago. Abby insists on accompanying Gage into the mountains, and he fears that he will lose her, just like he did the other woman. But soon, she is proving that she is more than capable of braving the elements and facing danger without flinching. Abby is one tough cookie, and she might not be physically strong, but she is mentally strong.

Danger lurks for Gage and Abby wherever they go in THE LAST MILE by Kat Martin. Her grandfather was a well-known treasure hunter and everyone who paid attention knew that he was looking for the lost gold belonging to Spanish explorers from long ago. The map is a blueprint of where to locate the gold and it appears a lot of people want the gold. Their trip isn’t going to be easy, and the big question is whether they survive. But Abby and Gage are resourceful and determined, which makes this tale a spellbinding one. Along the way, they fall in love. But is there any chance of a future together for them?

If you love an adventure that pulls you in and has you on the edge of your seat, then you won’t want to miss THE LAST MILE.

What happens when you mix Romancing the Stone with Indy Jones? The Last Mile by Kat Martin is the end result. This book has it all. A treasure map, lots of treasure, bad guys, lots of action, and of course, heat and magnetism between Abby and Gage. The intimate scenes between them are hotter than an Arizona desert and more sultry than a Mexican jungle. I loved all the treasure hunting. Gage is a throw back to Harlequin Romance men of old. I adored how territorial he was. I also loved his macho scenes.
Gender equality is fine. But an alpha male like Gage is swoon worthy.

The lure of lost treasure draws Abigail Holland to Treasure Hunters Anonymous and Gage Logan. Gage and his firm are well known and have located treasure around the world. A map that Abby inherited from her grandfather, King Farrell, will lead them in search of the Devil’s Gold. It will also lead them into danger in both Arizona and Mexico as they search and outrun those who will kill to get the map and the gold. When Abby is attacked in her home it is only the beginning of the threats that they will face. They survive an attack in the mountains near Apache Junction as they plan for their next search in the Mexican jungle. They will have to contend with the men who are after the gold, the Mexican government, snakes, torrential rain and falling in lust and love while trying to stay alive. Does the gold really exist or is it just a legend? I am not one for stories involving jungles, etc., but I had to read this one through to the very end. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

At first I was unsure how this connects to the other books, but it’s basically the Logan brothers. Gage runs this sort of adventure/treasure seeking company, sometimes he gets security help from his brother. Abby has recently learned her grandfather left her a map to a treasure everyone is after. As a nod to his life of adventure and treasure hunting she decides to hire Gage to help her find The Devil’s Gold. There’s plenty of back stabbing, secrets, and dirty politicians to keep the hunt interesting. There’s also no shortage of people willing to risk everything for the gold. The Last Mile has something for everyone, adventure, treasure, sexy guy, spunky beautiful woman, bedroom shenanigans and some gunfire. Enjoy this separately or read all the books, the stories are standalones. I received an early copy through Netgalley, and wrote my review voluntarily.

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Holy Toledo! I feel like I have been inside an Indiana Jones movie! This was a great book with loads of action. You will be carried from the deserts of Arizona to Mexico as the author takes you on a treasure hunt journey. Abigail Holland is still mourning the death of her grandfather, King Farrell. King was a renowned treasure hunter, and when Abby wakes up in the middle of the night with an intruder in her home, she knows why they are there. She has a gold ingot and map that her grandfather left for her. She needs help, and she approaches Gage Logan. Once they are paired up with his crew, they go on a treasure hunt while dodging kidnappers, bullets and wildlife. This was an exciting book where you could not really figure out who could be trusted. As per the real world, when you are talking about lots of money, the freaks come out! There was a romance that brewed between Abby and Gage so you have the romantic intrigue mixed in as well. This is book #2 of Blood Ties with the Logan brothers. You had a little romance, lots of intrigue, suspense and the thrill of the chase! I enjoyed the first book, The Last Goodnight, but I REALLY ENJOYED this one! Put your treasure hunt hat on and avoid the snakes! Yikes!

Gage Logan, renowned treasure hunter, is among a family of brothers. They all were accomplished in a different form, each a different passion. This is the second in the Logans, Blood Ties series.
On this particular morning Gabe greets his latest client, Abigail Holland. She’d had a burglar recently. Aside from her fear of the intruder, she was concerned that he might have been trying to find the map she inherited from her grandfather, King Farrell. He too was a man who hunted fortunes. People hired him to seek lost possessions of family or kinsmen. They came with maps and letters. King would research the history finding their jewels and riches. Gage was known for his strengths in doing the same. Abby hires him to find the gold lost when her grandfather passed.
Martin gives us another great suspense story in The Last Mile. Many characters are familiar to the reader. They join forces to find this mystery that King Farrell left behind. Once again, I found myself hooked from page one. Her latest of the Logan’s books will be published on May 31, 2022 by Kensington Publishing Corporation. I appreciate their allowing me to read and review The Last Mile courtesy of NetGalley. Kat Martin is followed by many fans. This is one they will not want to miss. Enjoy!

Romantic suspense/adventure from a mistress of the genre. Fast paced and with lots of surprises, this is an excellent weekend read! The publisher's blurb is a good start, but the writing, like the characters, is what kept me reading onward. Super escapist reading for hot weather!

The Last Mile is the second story in Kat Martin’s Blood Ties series. It is a thrilling, romantic suspense that takes places in the wilds of the Arizona desert and the Yucatan jungle. This story was extremely well written and had fantastic characters and an interesting storyline.

After Abigail Holland inherits a treasure map from her grandfather, she approaches renowned treasure hunter, Gage Logan, to help her search for and locate the Devil’s Gold, her grandfather’s obsession.
From the beginning the chemistry between Gage and Abigail was fiery and explosive, but as danger surrounds them, will they be able to put aside their fiercely independent natures in order to trust and protect each other? Read and find out!

Once again I had a hard time putting down a book written by Martin and once started it, I finished it in one night! Who needs sleep!? I can’t wait for the next book in this new amazing series.

An exciting adventure/romance with plenty of heat between the main characters. Abby wants to vindicate her treasure hunting grandfather, who's hunt for the famous Peralta gold has been mocked for years. She also has something of a treasure hunting yen herself. So she sells what she can and hires Gage, an experienced treasure hunter, to help her find it. The hunt goes from Colorado to Mexico, with all kinds of bad guys chasing them to try and get to the gold. There's danger, death and some hot sex between Abby and Gage, all along the way.
