What I liked about this book is that it was a very feel good story. It has romance, action, murder and suspense. You laughed, you cried. It has a twist I didn't see coming. .
It was a treasure hunt for gold. Abbey inherited a treasure map. She wants to follow her grandfather's legacy and find the gold. She hires Gage to set up and run the expedition.
Who doesn't love a good treasure hunt with a hot guide?
I enjoyed this book. I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.
The Last Mile, is a wonderful treasure hunting romance novel with a lot of suspense. Gage is very protective of Abby. He stops at nothing to keep her safe which is tested quite a lot in this book. Abby is able to keep up with the treasure hunting group. I liked that her character is all fluffy and city. Gage is totally Alpha but not in a chauvinistic way.
The Last Mile is the second in a series about 3 brothers but works as a standalone (I didn’t read the first). It has action, romance, and some steamy scenes. This is a good book to read if you like treasure hunts, nonstop action, and romance together.
Abby Holland inherited a map from her grandfather, a well known treasure hunter presumed dead, that has the last known place of the treasure known as Devil’s Gold. She seeks out Gage Logan for help in locating and retrieving the treasure.
Sparks fly between them, steamy scenes ensue, all the while seeking out the treasure. The storyline goes from Denver to the mountains of Arizona to the dry forests of Yucatán Mexico. It’s a great adventure of a book and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Who doesn't love a treasure hunt? A treasure hunt with danger, action, and a steamy romance? What's not to like? I like how Martin's romance novels have a lot going on besides just the romance. I'm not a huge reader of romance novels but the occasional one thrown in the mix is fun. This checks that box as well as providing an intriguing mystery, and the added bonus of taking place (partly) in my hometown, Denver.
This series involves 3 brothers (and their friends) with each book focusing on a different brother/friend as they all find love. It can absolutely be read as a standalone. This one follows Abby who is left a treasure map by her well-known treasure hunting grandfather. She is determined to find this last treasure, his white whale, but she needs help. Cue professional treasure hunter, Gage Logan. Together they track down The Devil's Gold and find love along the way.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with an advanced copy of The Last Mile in exchange for my honest review.

Blood Ties #2
The New York Times bestselling author pairs a woman in search of her family's truth with a hard-hitting professional treasure hunter in this taut and thrilling new book. As an unknown assailant stalks them across the treacherous Superstition Mountains in Arizona, they race to follow their treasure map’s directions to a hidden trove of gold, but will they survive the danger long enough to reach their prize?
This, in my opinion, is a great book! Well written, steamy romance, and is full of adventure. If this is what you are seeking I recommend that you read this!!

Thanks to the diligence of the author this reader got the opportunity to enter into the world of treasure hunters. Having the beginning and end of the story in my neck of the woods creates an immediate connection. Denver is featured from the lodo district to Fairmount cemetery. The superstion mountains and their lost Dutch mine has been in the news here. As lives and adventures of the treasure hunters are connection to historical mysteries. Kat Martin does a great job of delighting the reader, making entrancing the story of lost gold, and missing grandfathers.
The Last Mile is a fun adventure full of tension and scenery - and a quest for gold. The premise for this book is so very interesting and pulled me in right away. The characters were strong and the situations full of tension, compelling me to keep reading.
I loved that part of the book is written in my area of Southern Arizona. The author had plenty of research and interesting facts peppering her story. Kat Martin is a favorite author and The Last Mile is a great second book in this series.
I received an advance copy from the publisher and NetGalley. All opinions are my own. #netgalley #thelastmile
Gold! Abby's grandfather left a map with the path to the Devil's Gold, a treasure trove in the Superstition Mountains and there are bad guys out there who want it. Badly. Wisely, she hires Gage, a treasure hunter (duh) to help her, setting off an adventure filled romance. It's a tad implausible but it's also a fast paced and entertaining read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You know what's going to happen but no spoilers from me!
A grand adventure full of danger, excitement, hidden treasure, and some steamy romance! I enjoyed following Gage and Abby in their quest to find gold!
This was an engaging and suspenseful read with great characters and a wonderful romance. Their journey is exciting and dangerous. I loved that she stuck to her plan of going with or without him. I liked that they talked about their fears even when irrational. I liked the details on the treasure hunt .
Filled with suspense, action and sizzling scenes. Loved the characters and the story line. kept you on the edge of your seat along with some romance and hot sex. Definitely will be reading this author again. Looking forward to her next book. Loved it.
I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. This author's books are well written and I enjoy how they use the writing skills to bring the story to life. Their attention to details make the story realistic. This book is no different. It is a well written story that has action upon action in it. The characters pulled me into the story with ease. I found them to be connectable and engagging. This is a hard to put down story about a killer and a family that is not to be trusted. I enjoyed the growth of the plot throughout . I also enjoyed how supportive the characters are to each other. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. I did not see them coming. I really enjoyed reading this story as it was easy to read and certainly entertaining for me. I highly recommend this book and this author.
Abby has a treasurer map from her grandfather King Farrell. King has a reputation for a famed treasurer hunter. She seeks out Gage Logan a man her grandfather admired to help her find the gold. The travel into Arizona seeking treasurer. There are men after Abby and the treasurer. They travel to Mexico also in search of the treasurer. Gage doesn't like to take any women along on his treasurer hunts. Abby will only team up with him if she can come along.
They are attracted to each other from the first; but Gage doesn't get involved with his partners. There is adventurer, mystery and good chemistry in this story.
I read book 1 with Gage's older brother and actually liked it better than his story. Overall, it's a good read.
Kat Martin always delivers with her books of romance, suspense, action, excitement & this one is no exception!! Abigail Holland hires Gage Logan to help her find the Devils Gold treasure her grandfather, King Farrell, was searching for when he disappeared. King left her a map & she was determined to find it with or without Gage. While I did like this couple & wanted them to get their HEA, I didn’t always like Gage. I didn’t care for his jealousy over a couple of the male characters & he was a little pushy at times with Abby. Abby was a strong, independent woman that held her own.
All I can say is everyone needs to read it!! I received an arc from the publisher & net galley for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
Well, this was a delightfully fun adventure to follow! I enjoyed the treasure hunt, and the building romance between our two protagonists. Hot and steamy doesn’t just describe the climate when it comes The Last Mile. I’d definitely recommend this book for any Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider fans!
This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has a brave, strong and capable female protagonist, adventure, intrigue, suspense, sizzling chemistry, relationship drama, twists and turns, and a happily ever after ending. I especially liked its message of following your dreams. This is the second entry in Ms. Martin's outstanding Blood Ties series, and it can be easily read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the next entry in this series with great anticipation. Ms. Martin never disappoints her readers!
NetGalley and Kensington Books kindly provided me with an ARC of this novel, and this is my honest opinion.
Bonus star alert! I went back and forth in this one based on the synopsis, but decided to give it a chance and oh my god I’m glad I did. This is hands down one of the best books I have read this year. The characters were amazing, exciting, sexy and endearing. Non stop action, adventure and suspense. This was unputdownable. Amazing. Epic. The plot was so unique and the story so well written. Your heart will stop, your jaw will drop and you might even shed a tear or two. This book is nothing short of spectacular. I am a HUGE suspense/mystery/thriller reader and this book left me breathless. Read. This. Book!
❓QOTD: Have you ever heard a tall tale from an older relative?
It is astounding & perhaps triumphantly whimsical when a dream or pursuit requires the time or ability of multiple generations. When the past & present collide and necessitate attention in a certain direction.
🗺 The Last Mile 🧭 by Kat Martin (Out May 31st), has found a way to put this feeling, this restless situation, a fortuitous predicament of a lifetime, right onto the pages.
📖Abigail Holland always knew she was the granddaughter of infamous, career treasure hunter, King Farrell. And when one of his trips goes awry, she finds herself in a position to save his legacy, as she has just inherited one of his old treasure maps.
Well as they say… like grandfather, like granddaughter. And when she cannot resist the calling to chase after the renown Devil’s Gold, she pursues the special assistance of a different kind of treasure hunter. Confident, adventurous, headstrong, & dashingly handsome, Gage Logan, who she thinks would be great partner in leading the expedition. However, Gage has other feelings, especially about leadership.
🥾🗺After a good look at the map & a bit of a hunch, their story takes off as a focused quest & adventure into the mountains, & evolves into a steamy love story.💕
This book features the “forced proximity” troupe we all know and are loving right now, while also reveling in a bit of an old fashioned perspective, at times. Abigail, who is positively obdurate, keeps our dashing friend Gage Logan on his toes, creating only the most riveting of dynamics.😊
❓Will they be able to find the treasure?
❓Will they save Abagail’s grandfather’s legacy?
❓Where else will this journey take them?
❌ marks the spot on your bookshelf where this daring tale of Love & Adventure belongs!

...for the opportunity to read The Last Mile in exchange for my review!
This book is about Abigail Holland who is convinced that a treasure map her grandfather left her, leads to long lost gold. She teams up with Gage Holland a treasure hunter to go retrieve it. The situation is complicated by their attraction to one another and by the various people trying to get the gold.
This was a fun and enjoyable book to read but not one to take seriously. I have been reviewing many books recently and Ms. Martin’s writing was breath of fresh air. It was nice to read an overall well written, grammatically correct, and readable book. I liked both the characters and enjoyed the plot. Having said it felt a bit like Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. There were so many aspects of the plot that were unbelievable and lacked realism that one just said, “oh well” and went with the flow. I guessed two core components of the plot early one. There were holes in the plot here and there, especially the whole Arizona thing. I didn’t get the attraction between Abigail and Gage and his reasons for staying away didn’t make any sense. And the scene at the end where Gage had to rescue her was a bit silly (though I am guessing it was supposed to a catalyst for Gage). Having said that it was a well written book, I enjoy Ms. Martin’s writing. The book was fun to read if you went in realizing its nowhere near realistic and one is just there to read and have fun. Rather like watching Lara Croft!
I received a free copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fast paced adventure is at the heart of this book with added romance. The writer has written a captivating story that will be sure to keep you on your toes. A worthwhile read!
