I love books that have an intriguing plot as well as romance, and this had both!
I loved this, and read it in one sitting - would 100% recommend!!
This was an ok book. It had an interesting premise but just seemed to not interest me, plus the whole Clay character and his actions just seemed over the top.
Interesting reading that moves quickly and keeps you interested. Abigail Holland “Abby” learned that her grandfather King Farrell had died while on one of his treasure hunts which had taken him to Mexico. After hearing from the lawyer about her grandfather’s death and the reading of his will, Abby received the bulk of her grandfather’s estate. She found in the bank safety deposit box a map and one-half of a gold bar. She knew she was going on a treasure hunt and needed to have some help for this adventure. She went to see Gage Logan, co-owner of Treasure Hunters Anonymous. King Farrell had been searching for gold. Gage and Abby’s treasure hunt took them to the Superstition Mountains in Arizona, looking for the Devil’s Gold. The hunt of the gold lead them from Superstition Mountains to the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico and the old dilapidated estate of the Peralta family. The hunt lead to many mysterious activities and they also found more than the Devil’s Gold. Enjoyed the book and the adventures it contained. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
This book is exactly the quality and fun I expect from Kat Martin. It has adventure, suspense, romance and a couple of unsuspecting twists.
Abby’s grandfather left her the quest of a lifetime, but she needs Gage’s help to complete it. Abby and Gage must work as a team, trust each other, and break down barriers to get their happily ever after.
The descriptions of locations are so vivid and detailed, its like you are really there with them. The team faces opposition and adventure at every turn, and don’t forget talking in love. This book kept me interested and guessing as they searched for her grandfather’s lost treasure!
“The Last Mile” by Kat Martin is an interesting adventure story interspersed with some steamy sex scenes…nothing pornographic but enough to grab attention. The story starts with Abigail Holland being awakened by a burglar in her Denver home. Abby knows what the burglar is – a treasure map that her grandfather left her along with the old Victorian mansion. Grandfather King Farrell willed to her...but with a catch!
Abby has some hard decisions to make but decides to pursue the treasure in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, where the fabled Lost Dutchman Mine is to be found. Knowing that she needs professional help she arranges a partnership with Gage Logan, a renown explorer and treasure hunter.
This is the beginning of adventures for these two and an assortment of cast of characters – some good friends, some drug cartel members, others greedy government agents. Gage and Abby feel a sexual tension but Gage has a firm rule that no sex on the job!! Will he be able to wait and will Abby help or hinder that resolve?
No adventure would be complete without some deadly encounters with both humans and animals. The trail of the gold ultimately leads to Mexico and the Yucatan and then the fun begins.
The reader will explore lots of feelings – sexual and otherwise—in the pages of this book. Just a word that if a reader is prudish this is probably not the book for you. The question of the hook-up of Abby and Gage is not IF but WHEN. Readers will find out.
I would recommend the book not so much for the sex scenes and fantasy but for the adventure in chasing a long-rumored gold. Many real explorers have lost their lives looking for this fabled stash of gold – how many in the story will do the same. Going to have to read to find out,
The Last Mile – Kat Martin
It’s 3AM when an odd sound wakes Abby Holland out of a sound sleep. Still getting used to the sounds her grandfather’s house makes, it takes her a minute to realize that there’s someone inside her home. She springs into action, knowing what the intruder seeks – a map leading to a long-lost treasure, The Devil’s Gold – bequeathed to her by her grandfather, the legendary explorer, King Farrell. Barely escaping injury, Abby knows she’ll need help to find the gold that she is convinced King discovered before his death.
Gage Logan is the owner of Treasure Hunter’s Anonymous, and well known for his exploits in finding artifacts and such as well. When Abby comes to his office asking for assistance, he initially presumes that Abby’s map is fake – until he learns that someone tried to kill her for it. Still skeptical, he agrees to look at the map, fascinated by the gold piece that had been included in the box belonging to King. Gage is intrigued and finally agrees to lead an expedition to find the treasure. Despite Gage’s misgivings, Abby insists on being involved in all aspects of the venture – this was her grandfather’s dream and she plans to see it to fruition.
But danger lurks in many forms as the search gets underway, with the stark and unforgiving Superstition Mountains in their sights, and Abby’s nighttime visitor seemingly not far behind. As Gage & Abby forge a grueling search for Kings treasure, they both fight their fierce attraction to one another – unsuccessfully. But Gage, haunted by the loss of a colleague in the past, has no interest in a future – can Abby change his mind, once and for all?
This is the second in the Logan brother’s series and it’s every bit as good as the first! I love the story line, I love the characters, and just didn’t want to put it down! Abby is as fiercely independent as Gage and ‘watching’ these two come together is sheer delight. Coupled with a (almost) perfect ending, and just enough of everything you love in a novel, intrigue, suspense and a little romance, I think you’ll love this one as much as I did!
And now the hopefully not TOO long wait begins for Edge’s (and hopefully Skye’s) story that’s yet to come!
Kat Martin does not disappoint in this second story of the series. Her characters are believable and the plot is engaging, with the perfect amount of twists and turns.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I enjoyed this book. Ok, maybe it was pretty predictable but still what fun. It has adventure, mystery and romance. The chemistry between Abby and Gage is pretty interesting. They both seem like great people. Just another fun read. 4 stars
Oh these Logan brothers! Gage is taxed with aiding Abby find a treasure and restore her grandfather's name. What follows is romantic suspense at its best. Tons of action and tension. The romance is sexy and steamy. The characters are complex. Gage is alpha, determined, strong, and at times you just want to slap him. Abby is bullheaded, tough, and just right for a man like Gage. I enjoyed the dynamic between the two. I also really liked Mateo and the other supporting characters. It ended perfectly and has me anxiously waiting for Edge's book.
Gage and Abby definitely kept me guessing along the way. Would they find that which her grandfather left clues for? Would they find forever with each other? Heck, would they even survive this adventure? From Denver to Arizona to Mexico, we followed them through danger and lust and greed and maybe even love. But when all seems to finally fall into place, another wrench is thrown and everything turns upside down.
I enjoyed Gage and couldn’t even be too angry at his reluctance to let his heart get involved. Abby had to remain a job and partner, but he couldn’t feel for her. He couldn’t love her. Not after what he’s been through. But Abby wasn’t weak. She wasn’t some sad little girl who would be content with throwaway affection and some time that made her toes curl when she could have love. And I loved her for not compromising or shying away from that. So she was the stronger of the two in my eyes. Sure, they saved each other a time or two, but Abby laid it all out there for Gage to take or break her heart and she didn’t regret it, even if it had the potential to blow up in her face. It’s a good thing Gage has some reason somewhere in his family tree to help him figure out what he truly wants, too. Because I worried a bit there.
But thanks to this story, the adventure of a lifetime for more than one person, and the prospect of a better life, everyone wound up exactly as they should have. New friends had a future, new loves had happiness, and maybe Edge will have a story to tell of his own soon enough.
“The gold was there. King knew it. Abby intended to find it.”
“Looks like we’ve got a deal - partner”
“He was Gage Logan. It was like superman was sleeping in her living room”
There are really not many words to describe this book … apart from amazing, great, mind blowing, breath taking!!!
Fans of Indiana Jones and the Seventh Scroll this book is definitely for you!!!!!
The disappearing of a grandfather who has just left a mysterious map to his granddaughter, in order to find the treasure I set his life on finding, with the help of an amazing, handsome treasure hunter ???? COUNT ME IN !!!!
Adventure, treasure hunting, archaeology and romance … what more can you ask for??
Do you know what they are also some amazing romantic trope !!!!!! Like forced proximity, being forced to work together, and a slow burn with growing mutual attraction!!!!
Abby and Gage are just the perfect couple, not just because of the spice of their scenes and their physical attraction. They’re great together because their story is about being partner before anything else !!!! That’s what you love !!!
I know only read this book I devour it and I will never complain!!
It was a spark of adrenaline. It felt like the excitement never stopped and there were twists and turns everywhere!!!
I’m not going to lie the presence of a romantic theme between the main characters was definitely a plus but the main plot with the discovery of a secret treasure no one believed existed was definitely what drew me in !!!
Please read this book because I swear you would never regret your decision!!!
And, which is more, I can’t wait to read something about another Logan brother that really really has a promising story!!!!
“He wanted to make a story with Abigail Holland. He wanted to remember her naked in his bed, her golden red hair spread out on his pillow”
“King Farrell was no fool. And neither was his granddaughter.”
“… nothing, he vowed, was going to keep him from protecting Abigail Holland”
I could not put this book down once I started. The plot was a little different from others by Kat Martin and I truly enjoyed it. When Abby inherits her grandfather’s map to a hidden treasure she knows she will need help finding the gold. She enlists the help of a well known treasure hunter; Gage; and she is in for the adventure of a lifetime. Story had the action we come to expect, as well as some twists and an unexpected surprise. I always love her books, but this ,at now be my favorite.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
4.5 Golden stars! ★
After receiving a map with the location of a lost treasure in her grandfather’s will, Abigail Holland starts the search to fulfill his last wish: to find the Devil's Gold. In order to do that, she needs help, which comes in the form of sexy, mysterious and intelligent Gage Logan, a well known and respected treasure hunter. The quest takes them to various places, dangerous ones, hiking in the Arizona desert and immersing in the Yucatan wilderness, all in the name of treasure hunting.
This endeavor turns into more dangerous than any of them bargain for: with armed men and hunters chasing them, to drug dealers and the harsh climate conditions that make this hunt a complicated and twisted one, with ups and downs and a few turn arounds. During all, the attraction and admiration grows between Abby and Gage, however, will they be able to outrun their chasers? Will they fulfill Abby’s grandfather's last and biggest quest before their enemy finds them?
If there’s one thing that I love most about Mrs Martin’s books is her ability to keep readers on their toes the entire time. There’s no simple answer to everything and when one situation is resolved, another one steps up. I’ve loved this Indiana Jones theme, it was truly entertaining and made me want to be there searching for the treasure myself. This was an amazing read, I was looking forward to this second book of the Blood Ties series and must say, it didn’t disappoint one bit. With clever writing and a ton of action, this book will keep you at the edge of your seat, saying to yourself :”just one more chapter and I'm done for the night” (when we know it’s going to be 3am and you’ll be still at it). Moreover, the sizzling and immediate attraction between the main characters is a bonus tension in this already stressful situation of trying to find a long lost treasure, one that many have perrish in the search or, at least, lost it all while trying to find the Devil’s Gold. Now we’ll have to wait for the next story in this great series.
***Disclaimer: I’ve applied and received this book as an ARC via NetGalley and this is my honest review***
I loved reading about Abby’s and Gage’s treasure hunting adventure’s. There was mystery, suspense, action and angst. I found myself holding my breath during a couple of dangerous scenes. There were a few tearful moments too. This was a wild roller coaster ride. We get to see more of Gage’s brother Edge. The writing was magnificent! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Treasure map ... Gold ... Adventure ... Action ... Romance - this book has it all. Really enjoyed this one, especially once I got through the first half. The first half was a little slow moving for me but the second half really made up for it. Loved the characters and the storyline.
Definitely recommend!
Thank you #netgalley and #kensingtonbooks for the eARC.
I am a fan of Kat Martin's books but I think it's getting to the point where all of the lead characters are becoming interchangeable. I realize there is a formula to these types of books, but I wish she would diverge a little from the "hot guy with the perfect body and traumatic past relationship" and the "petite beautiful woman who shows strength and independence" characters. The physical attraction between Abby and Gage is so quick and always at the forefront of everything they do that you never really get to see how/why they fall in love. The treasure hunt aspect to this book was interesting, but a little bit of a letdown after what happens in Arizona. The danger side of these treasure hunts also feels a little overdone and takes what little realism there was and tosses it right out the window. I'm also not sure now is a great time to portray Native American tribes as violent murderers (as Martin does on multiple occasions throughout this book) - just seems a bit culturally insensitive considering what was being done to the tribes at the time in history the characters are talking about. I also found Gage annoying with his "you could have died" excuses to Abby for why they can't be together - he seems to be forgetting that she saved his life and without her he might have died. The scene between Abby and Clay at the end kind of came out of nowhere too - not that he wanted a piece of the fortune, just that he thought sexually assaulting her was going to convince her to share it with him. Not one of my favorite Kat Martin books, but not my least favorite either.
Romantic Mystery
Abigail Holland, granddaughter of treasure hunter, King Farrell, inherits his estate and most importantly his treasure map to The Devils Gold. Abby partners with respected explorer and treasure hunter, Gabe Logan, to search for the famous treasure. The adventure begins with burglary of her home, an attempted abduction and finally being at the mercy of Mexican cartels. If you enjoy mystery with a bit of romance, this is a great weekend read.
The blurb on the back of this book compares it to an Indiana Jones adventure and that describes this book perfectly. Romance, mystery, a old treasure maps and bad guys. They are searching for $200,000,000 in old gold. Lots of action through out this book. I really liked the secondary characters and would like to see them get their own series
Abigail Holland has in her possession a treasure map left to her by her grandfather, a map tp the supposed location of a long lost hoard of gold. Her grandfather was obsessed with finding the Devil’s Gold, but instead he lost his life searching, just as many before him had. Now, someone has broken into Abby”s house in the dead of night, intent on stealing the treasure map. Not knowing who she can trust and fearing for her family’s safety, she determines to find the treasure herself, well, almost by herself. She hires professional treasure hunter, Gage Logan to help her, and the two travel deep into the Superstition Mountains intent on finding what has eluded so many for so long. I really liked the treasure hunting angle in this book, I would have liked it even more if Abby had been a little more independent and swooned a little less over the leading man
