This is such a weird cute story!
The team is amazing bringing out such stories!
Thank you, Kids Can Press, for the advance reading copy.
The story is so much fun to read more so because of the wild imagination put in bringing up the events and the unique characters which somehow gave me some Caroline vibes. Maybe it's the illustrations or the parents being like that.
The illustrations are basic. It's the story that will make you think that it's not possible at all! But what is not possible when it comes to imagination?
I fell in love with the book instantly, drawn, of course, by the cover and amazing art! And who wouldn't?! This mischievous red head is a new Pippi Longstocking. And I absolutely loved the story. The spread about parents being snatched by the dragons and lost in the sea just cracked me. Lots of reviewers complain that there is no plot, and the story is disjointed, etc. Usually, I would have agreed, but not in this case. It’s pure nonsense with a few vibes from The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The girl is wild and adorable, there is (almost) no logic in her actions and there shouldn’t be!
Totally amazing! Great imaginative story, such a nice main characters and the drawing are really cute. Great picture book!
I love the premise of this book and its fantasy elements, but the story felt disjointed, chaotic and all over the place. Beautiful illustrations though, even if the story wasn't for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kids Can Press for a free digital copy.
A very cute and imaginative tale of a little girl living the life she wants to live. But people... and a surprise lion keep getting in her way.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's fiction book. The graphics are delightful, the book reminds me of Pippi Longstocking. It doesn't make sense but it is fun. Hopefully, a child will not wonder how does she pay the bills, or what is the formula for the invisible paint! It is whimsical. I adored Pippi as a child, she seemed free to me. 3.5 stars
I can suspend my disbelief that a girl and a lion could learn to live together. I can suspend my disbelief that Clementine can paint the house with invisible ink, and make it disappear. I can even suspend my disbelief that her only guardian would just give up when the house turned invisible.
What I am having trouble with is who is paying the bills? Where is the money for the food coming from, when she goes shopping? Even if the house is paid off, who is paying for water and electicity?
I guess I am just too much of an adult.
The story is weird and cute, and strange. A girl looses her parents, who are ogres that she doesn't really like anyway, and so is quite happy to live alone, and do whatever she wants with her life.
And when a lion moves in, she decides to get along with said lion.
This book is being compared with Ronald Dahl, but I think it is a bit more like Pippi Longstockings, who also live adult free.
And if you like either of those sorts of books, then probably this book is for you, but, gasp, I never like Pippi too much.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
Thank you to the author, illustrator, publisher, and NG for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. Right off the bat, my impression of the cover & title is that I really like the drawings and art story. The story follows Clementine whose parents were snatched up by dragons and lost at sea. Then her aunt turns up. She turned her house invisible then a lion came in? She wanted to leave to escape but she needs her doll. The lion has the doll. She decided not to leave and made the lion clean and help out if he wanted to stay in her house. They undo the invisibility so the parents could return home.
Honestly, I love the drawings and illustrations. The story is hard to follow and doesn't make any sense. The drawings are fine. Didn't care for the plot.
An odd, quirky little fantasy picture book about a young girl named Clementine who just wants to be left alone. She's glad when her parents disappear. Happier yet when she foils her aunt's plans to be her guardian. But when she's faced with a visit from a lion, she must learn to either live with this new guest or run away. A little confusing and chaotic, but cute enough.
A cute story about a girl who makes a life all alone until one day a lion gets into her home. Cute illustrations and a Roald Dahl sort of fantasy vibe. Admittedly the plot was a little confusing - I was confused at the point of the story, but cute all the same!
