There isn't much of a story here. It's more focused on the repeated refrain of "pugs cause traffic jams". That's likely to make it more appealing to toddlers and preschoolers than older kids and may be tiresome to adults. The illustrations are cute though.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I liked this funny book about pugs that cause awful traffic jams. This book is not great for read-aloud as there are many chat bubbles to read but is an otherwise good book.
Kirby the pug has gone missing, and as their owner searches for them, they see all different kinds of dogs. Each breed of dog is said to be something specific, like "Huskies are singers" (as the owner of a Husky mix, I can confirm this) but in the end, the author maintains that pugs cause traffic jams. And maybe become internet sensations?
The story is told through speech bubbles, as Kirby's owner searches for them. The book is very well illustrated, and my little review (age 5, pet lover) giggled about all the different dog's traits, and pointed out which ones reminded her of dogs in our own life. Not only would I get this for any kid who loves dogs, I am tempted to pick it up as a birthday gift for a couple of pug lovers in my own life because I know it would make them laugh.
I was provided an ARC copy of this book through Netgalley. My thanks to the publisher and author for providing it to me.
Kirby, the pug dog is not at home. His person goes everywhere and asks everyone if they have seen her dog. During this process, we see many breeds of dogs and what they like to do, then a cut-away to Kirby, and he is in the road causing a traffic jam.
Apparently, pugs are playful and oblivious--at least that seems to be the message. The book tells us that Dobermans are clingers, but that had not been my experience.
It's a fun book with bright and playful illustrations.
3/5 Stars

Note to publishers:
One caption says : Daddy, that dog has a butterfly on his butt. It's crude slang.
We don't like to have our kids say "butt," they can say bottom. So if I bought this book, I would alter it to say: "butterfly on him."
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Girl lost her precious pug, searches all over her town for him, while encountering all sort of interesting dogs and people.
My son and I enjoyed reading this book. He loves books about animals in general so he laughed through the whole story and asked to read it again. Very cute book for children.
This is a cute story that I read to my 3 year old grandson. First, my daughter has a jug (pug/jack russell) so Kirby immediately became Sherman in our reading. As the owner of Kirby set about town looking for her dog, we meet several other breeds of dogs and something about them. “Golden retrievers are pleasers. Poodles are overachievers. Border collies are always on the job.” Some things realistic, like Border Collies being working dogs, but also silly like Chihauhaus liking bling. Meanwhile, Kirby aka Sherman is chasing a butterfly through town causing traffic jams as he runs and jumps down the middle of the road. The story was basically told through speech bubbles as more and more people are asked if they have seen a pug. Of course he becomes a local media star and there is even a holiday in his honor. We enjoyed seeing all the other dogs and Peter loved yelling out "but pugs cause traffic jams" The illustrations were hilarious with the dogs you meet decked out in clothes and doing whatever was described. A cute book for dog lovers.
The story of a missing pug, and its owner looks for him then meet some other dog breeds. The author describes the dog breeds and illustrate how they look like so kids can learn about them. Very clever way to introduce dogs in all shapes and moods to kids.
This was a fun and sweet short children’s picture book, that definitely teaches them a little bit about different dog breeds and their ‘main traits’ as well as the joys it can be to have a dog in your life.
It also shows young children that with having a dog comes the responsibility of looking after him at all times.
It’s beautifully illustrated and sure to be a joy for younger children and their parents and/or teachers, who will soon be constantly haring the phrase “But pugs cause traffic jams!”!
A pug is missing and causing mayhem in the city. A girl searches for him, meeting an array of people and dog breeds that pop out with their personalities. This is a fun, cute, and light story. I read this via NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.
What a cool picture book about the different breeds of dogs and their specialities. It is not really about the story (dog gets missing and is causing trouble) but more about dogs in general and their differences. Really funny illustrations!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
The book was really funny and had awesome illustrations for the story. The kids loved seeing all of the type of dogs in the story. My vehicle loving reader really liked all of the cars involved. We all wished the story was a bit longer and had a more in depth ending to the chaos that Kirby caused.
A little girl loses her adorable pug whose name is Kirby. She runs all over the neighbourhood trying to locate him but is unable to do so. Kirby is off on an adventure. He is lost in a world of his own which causes chaos and mayhem with the neighbourhood traffic. What could he possibly be up to and where on earth is he she wonders? She must find him and bring him safely home.
The little girl inquires of various dog owners along her search and asks if they have seen Kirby. The answer she receives is no they have not. The author then describes every dog breed and their mannerisms that the little girl encounters on her mission to locate her beloved pet. "Golden retrievers are pleasers, Poodles are overachievers, Border collies are always on the job, and German shepherd save the day," just to name a few. The refrain "But pugs cause traffic jams" is a repeated phrase on the alternate page. Will the little girl finally reunite with Kirby and the neighbourhood once again have peace and order with their traffic fiasco after he is found?
This is a delightful book and also informative. The illustrations are detailed, humorous and animated marrying the text perfectly. Kids will love this book and will identify with the little girl as she searches for her sweet pet. This would be an excellent read aloud and I highly recommend it.

This is a great children’s book that is quirky and informative. We learn about different types of dogs as well follow pugs and their adventures. Beautifully illustrated and written!
This is a captivating story of a girl on the search for her lost pug. She walks around town asking other dog owners if they've seen her pup. And alternatively, the reader sees the pig wandering and causing trouble (while being cute!) The illustrations are energetic and detailed, and there is a lot of diversity in the characters. My 3.5 will love this book.
This book was adorable! My toddler and I had lots of fun reading it. This would be a fun book to share with my students as well(subbing the word butt out). I love how it introduces all the different dog breeds!
This is a cute book about a missing pug, and his owners search to find him. Her search brings her all over town encountering a variety of dogs, and their diverse owners all on the way. If you would like a simple, and enjoyable book about dogs that include people from all walks of life, you will enjoy this read.

Pugs Cause Traffic Jams was so adorable! I especially loved the rhyming description of the dog breeds, and the aptly named Pugs Cause Traffic Jams is pretty accurate! haha
Cute illustrations, a funny story, and all about dogs. We are a dog-loving family, and this is one we will be adding to our library!
I thought this was a cute little story, simple enough story, illustrations were great. My daughter's pug loving teacher will be getting a copy from us as a gift I'm sure.
What a fun and cute look at different dog breeds and their characteristics! As a pug owner, this is a very relatable tale of puggish mischief and is sure to delight readers of all ages.
