I received this Arc from Netgalley. Thank you for the chance to read this book early. My review is honest and 100% my own thoughts about the book.
This book was interesting it was a play on the Lady of the Lake. She was almost a mermaid like without the fin. I really enjoyed the story and the relationship she has with the water and the wildlife surrounding her. She also has the ability to heal using the water that is her home.
I really enjoyed the process of Emily and Chris getting to know each other, as well as learning about Emily’s past. It was very dream like storytelling or even like you are dream walking. You definitely feel the innocents that Emily has when she and Chris finally comes together. It is a slow burn. I would have loved for the story to continue. I craved to have more.
What a book. I am on pins and needles. Can’t wait for the next book. The characters are so well developed you can visualize each one. And then end…. OMG. Read it and enjoy. I couldn’t put it down!.
I recieved an ebook in exchange for an honest review. A huge thank you to netgalley, the publisher, and the author.
This was a title and cover pick, but jumping into the book i was enthralled. The lore around the lake and finding out about Emilys past was amazing. Seeimg her and chris' interactions and them getting to know eachother was also nice.
I just wish that the ending was a little more fleshed out, it just seemed rather abrupt.
Still a fantastic read that i highly reccomend.
Lakeborn is a really interesting book, it’s a paranormal romance, m/f, and reads a bit like a waking dream. When you first start the book you’re in the Lady of the Lake’s perspective and wander with her as she lives around her lake, then humans come and she has an immediate and negative reaction. It’s clear humans are both not welcome and a source of pain for the Lady. One of the humans is being chased and gets injured and the Lady drives the rest away. Meanwhile the lake has healed the remaining man. What follows is a story of healing from past trauma, coming to terms with reality not being everything you thought it was, and two lonely people finding love with one another.
Lakeborn is relatively low heat, more a romantic dream than a spicy one and the language reflects that. The sex is explicit but not crass, it fits with the relative innocence of the heroine and the way the hero has come to share the dreamlike world the heroine lives in.
Overall, this was really enjoyable, though be prepared for it to drop you into and then back out of the story, it’s clear the author trusts the reader to pick up the threads themselves to make sense of what’s happening.
I was given this book for free by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
