If We Break Up is about Honey who is trying to decide who she wants to be, while dealing with the guilt of who everyone expects her to be. When she receives an acceptance to her dream college it really starts to set in for Honey that she may not want the life that has been planned out for her and she starts to question everything. She takes a first step and breaks up with her childhood sweetheart, at least temporarily, so they can find out if they are truly soulmates like everyone has always said. This YA novel is all about growing up and choosing your own path as you begin making adult decisions. It was a good story and Honey was a great voice for this journey.

The pacing of the book was incredible. There was always something happening. The characters seemed a bit one dimensional and lacked development, which sort of made the story fall flat for me and then parts that were supposed to be impactful weren't.

A cute story, I really enjoyed the writing style. I´m not the key demographic, so the drama was a bit too much for me, but I think it will find its readers that will adore it.

Thank you net galley for allowing me to read and review this book.

It was a cute read, but it personally wasn't my favorite. I couldn't connect with the characters or the story that much. However, I think this story is geared more towards a younger audience.

How do you know if the person you love is your soul mate?
That is what this book asks about. That is the fast paced romance is all about. And I was all for it. I loved this book. simply because I read it during a time of turmoil in my life and it just fit. It is such a sweet story full of ups and downs.
Perfect for the valentines readers.

If We Break Up was a pretty cute book. In it, you will meet Honey. Now she has her dream college in her sights but feels like one thing is holding her back: her boyfriend. Then there's her group of friends who constantly gush about him and their relationship. Honestly, if I was in her shoes, I would get annoyed very easily. Oh wait, I was in her shoes.

So, things get awkward after they make a pact to break up and go on five dates with different people. I wasn't exactly sure how things were going to go down with this new thing but was excited nonetheless to watch this trainwreck. Throw in a possible love triangle, or any other love shape, and I was completely hooked.

If I had to pick Luca or Mason, I would go for Mason. I just really enjoyed their chemistry and the bantering between them made me smile. Doesn't mean I don't like Luca, I do. I would just like him with someone else. Other than that, she does make some tough decisions that will only help better herself and her future.

Definitely enjoyed the heck out of this and can't wait for what Cheyanne writes next!

This was kind of dramatic. I guess it was hard knowing that these two teenagers were together and they were actually considering sacrificing the rest of their lives for each other when I hadn't even read the way that they ended up together. It seemed kind of stupid, to be honest.

This is one of those YA titles that is difficult for me to review, because I know my opinions are going to be skewed a fairly significant amount because I am just not the book's target demographic. Here we have a fine story, perhaps a little formulaic, but with solid writing that is neither truly exemplary nor truly abysmal. But to me, it's very hard for me to see this as anything other than a solidly middle of the road read. However, I definitely can see what this story might mean to someone who IS in that target demographic, and perhaps more likely to be affected by such a narrative.

I absolutely love the fast paced nature of this book. The tempo kept me up reading and I love it when books do that. While the characters were nice, I thought they could have been developed more. I will be reading more by this author!

I didn't really like this book. I found myself a little bored. I actually got about half way through with this one and decided to not finish it. This sounded really cute but over all I just do not think it was for me.

You know those books where you can predict the ending but you still love the book anyways? That was me with this book. I could tell pretty early on how the book would end but it didn't stop me from reading. Instead it made me keep reading to see if I was right.

I wasn't sure about this book at first. Honey and Luca are perfect together but because Honey got into a school out of state she decides to have an experiment. Her and Luca will go on 5 dates and see if they really are soulmates.

Luca seems to be great at finding dates. Honey? Not so much...at first.

This book had romance, nerdy aspects, friendships, and family. It was a feel good YA novel to start the summer with.

Stories where you don’t know who is going to get chosen in the end seem to always make me read all the way through (and sometimes peek to see how the story ends!). Deciding who to be with in the end is part of this storyline. Enjoyable read.

Thanks @netgalley and the publisher for the arc!

This book pulled me in from the beginning. It was fast-paced and it kept me reading to see how everything would play out. If you read the synopsis before reading, you know what you're getting yourself into, however, I found the idea of the relationship experiment a bit pointless. If you loved your partner, you wouldn't be sitting around wondering who/what else was out there or if you're missing out on something. The whole experiment was like: okay, let's break up and if we can't find someone better, then we'll settle for each other? If that's your way of thinking, then it's pretty obvious you don't consider each other soul mates. That's what Luca and Honey did. Also, I wish the book was written in a dual POV, so we could see what Luca was thinking. We never really got to know Luca on a deeper level. We only saw everything through Honey's POV. I feel like a dual POV would have added to the story. I want to know what going on those 5 dates was like for Luca. Especially with the plot twist towards the end. Throughout the story, Luca insisted him and Honey were soulmates. So the plot twist surprised me. What he going to pretend nothing happened? Would he have eventually cheated on Honey if they stayed together? I wish we saw his POV. Another thing, I wasn't a fan of Honey's wishy washy character. She was always changing her mind. I wish we saw her growth sooner instead of almost at the end. I feel like Honey didn't truly know what she wanted. She always let other people's life, actions and relationships dictate her own. However, I did appreciate that at the end Honey decided to focus on learning about herself instead of starting another relationship.

Overall, this book was a light, fast read that young readers would enjoy.

Meant to be, or meant to break?

Honey and Luca have been together forever. As high school graduation looms over them, Honey begins to have doubts about their relationship. For years they have prepared to go to a local college and take over the family business together, but Honey has bigger dreams in mind. When she is accepted into her dream school, she and Luca get into a huge fight. Honey finds a scientific article that suggests people find their soulmates after five relationships. She challenges Luca to an experiment in which they will each go on five dates with other people. If they still feel they are soulmates after the five dates, she will stay with Luca. When she is stuck at a science convention with her worst enemy, she finds that love can sometimes come in surprising packages. Is Luca her soulmate after all? Or will someone else win her heart?
I was pleasantly surprised by this YA romance novel. I loved the characters and the relationship dynamics throughout the story. I was amazed at Honey's growth as she went out of her comfort zone to help her determine which path to take. This novel was emotional and made me slightly nostalgic for my high school days! I recommend If We Break Up to anyone who loves YA romance novels.

thank you netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review

star rating- 4 stars
overall- i heavily enjoyed this book more than i though, and my best way to describe it was a romance but not a romance, and it seemed more contemporary, but it was different and i loved it.

characters- luca annoyed me at the start which was honestly the point, but i don't understand why any person would act that way he did about honey's dream. honey on the other hand, i loved her and her indecisiveness energy, cause that's what i got. oh and mason, mason was awesome, like with all his fact dumping and his bickering with honey, he was awesome. oh and maggie the makeup star, i loved her too.

plot- i think the spacing worked out quite well for the book it didn't go so fast that i was confused about the character growth, but it wasn't as slow that i got bored.

what i liked- i loved the 5 date plan and how that all worked, i also loved the STEM club group, they made me very happy and excited. oh and i liked the text messages between Mason and Honey

what i disliked- I disliked Luca at the beginning, as well as when he lied to her, but
that was about it

overall it was a great read, and im glad i picked it up

“If We Break Up”

Oh, the feels.

Many of us have dealt with the crushing weight of expectations from society or our families, or society. When does it come time to try doing something for ourselves? And how do we know if someone is our soulmate?

Honey is in this position. A senior in high school she is expected to go to Texas A+M, get her real estate license, work for the family company, and marry her “soulmate”, the guy she’s known all of her life. But what if she wants something different?

This book made me cry, but in a good way. It’s about finding your own path despite all of the pressures that are put on you. Honey is a strong character who is trying to find out what life she actually wants. In reading this I believe you’ll find a part of yourself and perhaps empathize with the need to reach for your own dreams rather thank knuckle under to the expectations of others. Five stars.

Honey and Luca have been childhood friends, classmates, been dating for forever, and about to head to college together... They're even expected to be married someday. And yet, she doesn't feel those fireworks... Were those even there in the first place? So before graduation, both of them decided to "temporarily break-up", date five other people, and see if they're really soulmates. But for Honey, she'd just rather go the her dream college, away from what's expected of her

This book description is everything! The plot is just so interesting and it just has that impression that sucks you in.

Honey is such a great main character. I love that we get to know her thoughts. Especially how she describes Luca, her family, and her community. You just definitely start rooting for her. Plus points, because she is into STEM! I also love that we're discovering new things with her, her passions, and her thoughts.

The flow of the story is so great too. I really love that the way the author filled us in on the world she lives in, the heartbreak of breaking up with Luca, and just her passions of going to the college of her choice and breaking the tradition.

The dates are also very realistic and relatable! I just love the process of Honey transforming and the realizations about what true love and soulmates are.

I also just have to add, that I am Filipino. One of the characters is half Filipino and I started squealing when I learned about it. I am totally here for it and I'm just so happy to see that We got a spotlight.

Here's a few stuff that I dislike: I thought the book left some loose ends, they were more of a minor thing, but I just thought they could've been left with better conclusions. There were some things that I hoped had more details. like I said, more of minor things but I just liked to know what happened to the other characters.

Overall, I loved this book. I devoured the last stretch of it. I slept at 2am just wanting to know how this book ends. Everything was both making me giddy and also breaking my heart. There were no boring parts of it, and I'm so happy that I read this book.

I have rrecieved a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I am not sure if it is because I typically do not venture out much further than mystery and thriller, but after reading this young adult romance, I definitely will be checking out some more.

This book originally caught my eye by the title and the cover, but in the end, the concept of the whole story is what really intrigued me.

If We Break Up by Cheyanne Young follows high school sweethearts Honey Blackwell and Luca Rollins. The two of them have been together their whole lives; they were born into dating since their parents are long-term best friends, neighbors, business partners, and high school sweethearts themselves. The whole school, along with the rest of their close friends and family (especially their family), expects the two of them to get married, go to college in their hometown, and continue the family business.

But, Honey, is on a different page, she already secretly applied to her dream-school in Colorado, FLU. Once she lets Luca know, he reacts the complete opposite than Honey expected, leading to a huge argument. After the biggest argument their relationship has encountered, Honey comes across a scientific article online that claims people find their true soulmate after being in five relationships. Honey starts to question if Luca is really even her soulmate. How does she know for sure if he is all she has ever been with??

Soon after discovering the article, Honey poses this experiment to Luca, and they come to a mutual agreement to break up, go on five dates, and either find their soulmate or be led back to one other in the end, proving the two of them are already soulmates. Now it’s time for Honey to figure out what she really wants.

The author writes so beautifully. I loved the pace of this story. It just flows so nice, there was never a time or area in the book that I felt was slow or I was bored of; it is constantly moving. Also, the relationships and mini storylines that are formed between each of the characters are fully developed and explained thoroughly enough to where there is no confusion or missing information.

This book is DEFINITELY something I would recommend. It is just an important book to read at least once in your life. I think for me, I can relate to Honey on a very personal level, so it made this such an intense read, I never knew which way she was going to go!

I cannot wait to check out more of Cheyanne Young’s work. Amazing job on this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Quinnova Press for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

This book was everything it said it was going to be, everything it set out to be, and everything I needed it to be. The premise was one I had heard before, which is why I was drawn to it initially, and it was done quite well. This is the type of story that I believe can be told 100 times, in various forms, and it will still be good and hold true, because the message is a necessary one for young people to hear. I have had the same conversation recently, more than I would like, telling people that first love doesn't necessarily mean true love, forever love, and this was a refreshing take on this discussion. I know different cultures value placement on following family tradition and doing what family has set out in front of you to a T, without variation, but since this was written from a very USA-independence oriented culture mindset, it was great watching everyone realize that you can follow your heart with matters important to you.

Honey is a strong character. She is constantly doubting herself, doubting what she should be doing, being told contradictory things, and has no way to tell what she thinks is true or not because of the amount of conditioning she has been given for the past 18 years. I want another book about Honey that takes place after this book ends. I think more girls in her position exist then we maybe realize, and I hope they get a chance to see this book. Bonus - she is in STEM and she loves rocks!

Overall, I enjoyed this, it was an easy read that still had depth. 4/5
