Honey and Luca have been together all their lives. Their parents are best friends and work together, they live down the block from each other, and the whole neighborhood thinks they are destined to be together,
They are on the verge of graduating high school.. Luca believes they are soulmates; however, Honey is questioning their relationship, especially when Luca gets upset when Honey wants to attend her dream college in Colorado.
After reading a scientific study, they both decide to take a break and go on five different dates before graduation. Luca is sure that they will find their way back to each other.
I loved everything about this novel! I just happened to stumble across it, and I needed it even though I am no longer 17. Young touches on so many important topics not just for teens, but I feel like any age: dating, ghosting, divorcing, the idea of "making other people happy," and doing what makes you happy. I could go on!
I felt that all the characters had depth, and Honey was a powerful woman that realized that she needed to do what made her happy from finding someone who will make her happy as well as attending her dream school .I am not going to lie that the book made me tear up at some points.
The only critique I have is the cover. The design doesn't really have anything to do with the story.

Man, I really have not had good luck with ARCs lately, and this was no exception. I won't review the plot as the summary is pretty accurate, but the premise of this book is founded on a long-term relationship between two teenagers that I found wildly unrealistic.
Oh well, on to the next.
An interesting story concept which I enjoyed. I thought it was quite predictable though (with Mason and all) and I didn’t really feel major swoon scenes so nothing particularly outstanding. That said, if you want a casual light read then this is a good one to add to your list.
I think Honey made a wise decision to try the 5 date experiment before deciding to commit to Luca. Most high schoolers stick with the one person they click with, without trying to discover if something “better” is out there for them. I can say that I was annoyed when Honey decided to get back with Luca especially since it was only because she thought she missed the deadline for her dream school. I really wanted to see where things could go with Mason after the amazing night they had at the museum. I am glad things worked out in the end and her and Luca were able to see they are better as friends. Thanks to NetGalley for my first ARC read!!
This is a YA. romance book. It deals with a lot of things such as college , first love, and family expectations. I had issues with this book because Honey has a boyfriend and whose family are in a business together. It's expected of them to take over once they graduate. My issue with this book is Honey applies to her dream college and when she gets accepted she has no support from loved ones but her aunt. Luka basically makes her choose which I didn't like. I was happy to see Honey choose her happiness and the college of her dreams. I think it was a little predictable. I wish we had an epilogue. The way the book ended didn't do it for me.

This is going to be one of those "it's not you, it's me" reviews.
If We Break Up is one of those books where you can pretty much read the synopsis and figure out how the entire book is gonna go. I don't say that to be judgmental. Sometimes you just want some fun, predictable fluff. (I marathon Hallmark movies every Christmas. I am in no way bashing fun, predictable fluff.) I knew what I was signing up for when I picked If We Break Up up. I knew how it was going to end, but I was still disappointed (and a little upset) when it did. So really, I have no one to blame but myself.
But let's start from the beginning. One of the reasons I picked up If We Break Up was its synopsis. I wanted something fun and formulaic, and I wanted some romance with STEM. But then I actually started reading it and my writer brain started playing "what-if..." and when the story I made up in my head was decidedly not what Cheyanne Young had in store for me, I realized I actually didn't want the cookie cutter version. I wanted the unexpected, slightly more complex version. I could go on a big, long, spoiler-filled rant about my issues with the story (and how my version is so much better,) but I'll hold back for now since the book isn't out yet and because it really isn't anyone's fault but my own. What you see is what you get with If We Break Up, and I can't really blame anyone for that.
I'll be honest, the whole reading experience was hard for me. I probably should've DNF'd the book with a simple "it's not you, it's me" as soon as I realized it was heading in a direction I didn't want to be going. I would've if I were the type of person who were smart enough to do that kind of thing, but I kept pushing on. Even then, I almost did put the book down once we got the midpoint of the story because it was just so frustratingly painful for me to read, but like a bystander watching a train wreck, I kept trucking on like a fool. So keep in mind that most of my issues with the book are personal and not at all related to Cheyanne Young's actual writing. If you're looking for a lighthearted*, cheesy read, If We Break Up is probably the book for you. (Though I still stand by my stance that Act 3 is way more melodramatic than it has any right to be.) Just don't be like me and get mad when you actually get a lighthearted, cheesy read.
I received an eARC from Quinnova Press, Xpresso Book Tours and Cheyanne Young in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is a fun, lighthearted YA romance that deals with college choices, first love and the expectations that come with being part of a family business.
I must say that I’m not a fan of the cover as it looks a bit DIY, but this is a classic case where you should look behind that. The book is really well-written, the characters are relatable and the story is a lot of fun. The outcome is kind of predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. After all, you know what you’re gonna get when reading a romance novel.

i finished reading this book in two sittings only. i think the concept and the plot were well thought and written. this book follows the story about Honey Blackwell and her high school lifetime. she grew up with everything already planned out for her by her parents. Honey has a boyfriend, who is Luca also known as her childhood friends or the one and only friend ever. they grew up together since in diapers. their parents are high school friends and they want their children to be in relationship just like them so they could manage and continue their business in the future. now on the verge of graduating high school Luca wants to do what their parents told them to do. But, Honey have her own dream college in another state and that’s the reason their relationship became strained so Honey made a plan according to a science research, she and Luca decided to take a break and go on for a 5 dates each to know are they really soulmates or their soulmates are the other person. and that’s how the story starts.
really enjoyable read for me i literally love to know more so that’s why i couldn’t put it down. it was such a beautiful coming of age novel. the characters, Honey is so relatable and she is so sweet, i could relate to her mostly just love her confidence. Luca also is a great guy and very hot popular guy in school you know what i mean. AND ANOTHER CHARACTERS MASON. OMG I LOVE HIM he’s an AMAZING CHARACTER. but the ending for me, Mason didn’t get his own ending that he deserves. THE ENDING is a bit disappointed actually for me. not overall. but the romance in this book is a bit lacking. i hope there’s more romance so i could simping over them :( there’s some part that worthy swooning and banter between characters are perfect. no i ain’t complaining but i’m just saying it should be ended well. overall, i enjoyed reading it and will try to read more from this author.
guys do read this book bcs this book is not predictable. if you love some good YA romance do read this book. if you are a STEM sucker GO READ IT and meet Honey. i really recommend it.
I’m definitely not the target audience here but this just didn’t hit the mark for me. I expected to feel emotion and I never really did. Teen heartbreak is something I think all readers can identify with but I found it tough to connect to the characters and their experiences.
I think teens and YA fans might find an easier connecting point but this one didn’t hit me in the feels like I wanted. 3 stars
This book was a cute contemporary YA with some romance sprinkled in. It's mostly about a girl who is trying to figure out what she wants and trying to not disappoint people. I skipped a lot of those bits. She's obsessed with finding out if her longtime best friend/boyfriend is her soulmate, and I did find that to be more than a little unrealistic. I know high schoolers think they're going to marry each other and plan their lives around that, but I think there's also a lot of them then knowing that's what they want. Honey didn't know what she wanted.
I was hesitant to request this book because I couldn't tell if it was full contemporary or contemporary romance, and it is very much fully contemporary. But this fully contemporary YA book wasn't fully for me. The book lives up to the blurb, she breaks up with her current BF, she sets out on this "experiment", she tries to figure out her feelings for Mason... it just felt a little over the top and overly dramatic, even for teenagers. She thought she had to be like her parents because they were high school sweethearts??? Did she read stats for how many hs sweethearts don't work out too? And then because her entire identity is wrapped up in her relationship, some of the other obstacles the author threw her way just seemed... I don't know, petty? Even though they were huge.
The romance was very, very minimal, but it was incredibly realistic and cute. My biggest complaint on this topic was that the grovel at the end should've come from Honey, not Mason, but it came from Mason. He reached out to her and apologized, but she didn't say anything back. She told him she was stringing him along, which wasn't true, but then the reader doesn't see her apologize for that. There's no conclusion. Mason apologizes for his incredibly minor faux pas (that was completely reasonable and like, maybe an adult should've been echoing the same sentiment idk), and she accepts, but then there's no communication for months until the go to the same college and he seeks her out.
There is no HEA. There is not even and HFN because this is not a romance. This truly is a story about a girl trying to discover who she is and what she wants. And in that respect, she gets a HFN.
This is a quick and easy read. It's written lightly and the chapters are broken up really nicely. It's clean and diverse. But it was also just kind of "okay" to me.
(Sequel? If We Stay Together? Just sayin'...)
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
There was a specific moment in this book that I think it summarizes this reading experience for me. The main character was talking about how when you get used to something, it doesn't have that spark anymore. For instance, you can love pizza, but once you regularly eat it, a pizza is just a pizza. No matter how much you enjoy it. That's how I felt about this book - it doesn't matter how much I love to read YA or romance books if I keep reading the same formula over and over.
I think the book had a nice concept and it was well thought, but I just couldn't help thinking I wasn't reading anything new, anything that brought something different to the table. I didn't enjoy the characters and I was bored for the majority of the story. Maybe if I had read the book in my teenage years, I would've had a different opinion.
⭐⭐⭐1/2
If We Break Up was a lovely YA story about Honey Blackwell and her life in a small town, a town that her family has always lived and been a huge piece of. Part of her small-town life includes Luca, the high school heartthrob she's been with since childhood.
We get to follow along as they undertake a 5 date experiment, to see if they truly belong together
If We Break Up doesn't fall back on catty high school drama, like a lot of YA's can. Nothing more than kissing is mentioned, making the book very PG and suitable for younger teens.
I was able to finish the book in a day, due to the light nature of the story and good-sized chapters. So if you're after a nice, easy read or you're after a book for your teen, I recommend it.
Thanks to Cheyanne Young and NetGalley for the chance to read If We Break Up in advance in exchange for my honest feedback

Honey and Lucas are neighbors, best friends, and the it couple of their small town. Their parents run a construction and real estate business together, and it’s been decided that they will both take their rightful places within the business after college. With high school graduation looming, Honey starts to have doubts not just romantically, but career wise too. Lucas is content and agrees to a dating experiment that Honey proposes. After dates with five different people, they will decide if they are soulmates. Will Honey choose the life she’s been destined to lead or the one that has always been planned for her?
This was a captivating YA romance. I was engrossed from the beginning and couldn’t wait to find out what happened. The characters had wonderful chemistry, and I was rooting for all of them. I felt a wave of emotion, empathy, anxiety, and optimism throughout this book. I definitely recommend reading If We Break Up. I will say, I wish we knew more about Mason, but hopefully there will be a sequel.

3.5 stars!
Something about this book really pulled me in! It was incredibly fast paced and kept me on my feet.
Going into reading this I was expecting to feel heartbroken and I feel like that’s where it fell flat for me.
I didn’t really connect with any of the characters so the whole time I was thinking I really didn’t mind where things ended up.
Navigating heartbreak as a teen is such a hard thing, but as portrayed in this story it didn’t necessarily hit that mark for me.
Nonetheless, it was a cute idea for sure and I was flying through the pages!
I think this story is directed towards younger teens and for that it is such a cute read!

3.5 stars for this one!
Since I'm more on the adult side of things, this book wasn't one I identified with during certain moments. I'd consider this one more on the teen side of things but it was still a delight full read.
It's got a bit of coming of age and that panic we sort of feel where everything we though we knew is no more. A very sweet book, ideal for teens or those who just want to go back in time to high school for a little bit.
Love is a choice. And Honey must make hers.

Honey Blackwell is half of the senior class’s perfect couple. Together with Luca they make up Prom King and Queen and Stockwell’s most perfect pairing because their parents are also high school sweethearts who fell in love, got married and started a business together. Honey and Luca will attend A&M University together then return home to marry and settle down. That would all be great if Honey wasn’t hiding the fact that she got into her dream school in Colorado. She also isn’t so sure she and Luca are soulmates so they hatch a plan to go out with 5 different people the last 5 weeks of school then decide if they want to be together forever. A lot can happen in 5 weeks.

Fans of 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston will love this book. I read it in one sitting. I loved every page. So much angst, character diversity and exactly what I wanted out of a young adult romance. Grab your copy March 8!

One of the books that make you reminisce through navigating your college dreams and be bold in whatever decision you made.
My thoughts:
☁️ I feel like the premise of the book is predictable which I was a bit skeptical (at first) about the idea BUT LEMME SAY THIS — the author did a fantastic job of twisting the story 😆💦 You might find this one can be exceptional and I'm wronged 🙈
☁️ If you're a STEM sucker, you can gang up with Honey and Mason. They're a ☠️mortal enemy by default☠️ and I live on with their banter 💖 However, Mason ~ Ehem you got my attention better than Luca 👏🏼 I might be biased but come on! A photographer, museum-goers? 👀 He's the type of guy who captures the moments (get what am saying?) Luca seems offensive but the way he treated Honey is something a dream guy would do.
☁️ Honey Blackwell. She's a strong character and I found her so ✨BOLD✨for taking up the challenge to change herself and apply her college dream. Eventho, her life has been mapped out to marry Luca & carry on her family business but that certainly won't stop her. She got the nerve to standalone.
☁️ The plot twist 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Even it was a bit behind the chapter, the twist shocked me✨To the last few chapters, it was related to all of the characters involved 🙈 (Ahhh I cannot spoil anything 💦 it was good tho)
Overall, it was not a typical book and I enjoyed it as a YA reader. Thank you so much to the author and NetGalley for the advanced copy! 💖 I can't wait for the book to release and definitely will try out her other books as well which I saw has lots of good reviews!
This book was a really cute and light-hearted read! Cheyanne Young in If We Break Up captured what young love feels like, and all of the pivotal moments a young adult begins to go through. Notably, I enjoyed reading about the main characters journey and how she navigated a big milestone in her life, with all of the bumps in the road along the way and her journey of self discovery.
Overall a really fast-paced read, and I would recommend for those that like contemporary young adult books!
Honey Blackwell isn't quite sure what she wants, but it might not be the life everyone else has planned for her, marrying her childhood sweetheart, working in the family business, and never leaving smalltown Texas.
📚📚📚
As Honey navigates her senior year, her always-consistent life undergoes a series of sweeping changes. What if Luca, childhood best friend and teenage boyfriend, isn't Honey's soulmate? Asking herself that very question, Honey proposes an experiment: a breakup with a five-date clause. Five dates with other people might be enough for Honey and Luca to decide if they truly belong together in Texas at the family real estate and construction company.
📚📚📚
Honey's dates aren't the only big changes she has to consider. With an offer to study geoscience out of state at Fault Line University waiting in her inbox, Honey has an important decision to make. Stick to the tried and tested path or carve her own way to the future? As she struggles to make her choice, Honey is forced to reconsider her plans, her expectations, and her goals in a true coming of age storyline.
📚📚📚
If We Break Up is a fun, fast-paced YA contemporary, perfect for fans of We Used to Be Friends and Tweet Cute.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for providing me with this eARC.
High school seniors Honey and Luca have been together since the day they were born; their parents are next door neighbors and best friends. Honey and Luca have always been together and the plan after high school is to attend Texas A&M together and work for the company that their parents own, settling down in their small Texas town.
And then Honey decides that maybe she doesn't want the easy, expected path after she is accepted at her "dream school" in Colorado. And maybe she doesn't really want the path that includes Luca and Texas A&M.
In order to see if they're doing the right thing, Honey and Luca decide to follow in the footsteps of a scientific study that Honey found online. It suggests that people find their soulmates after 5 relationships. So the two decide to go on 5 dates before high school graduation, to make sure they are soulmates,
Will they end up together? I think readers will see the end coming way in advance.
