I like my Easter books with religion, and this book does not have that. But I do find this interesting because my daughter has asked about this very thing! Lovely illustrative style too. Not one I’d purchase for our home collection but I will add it to our seasonal library rotation.
Grateful to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to preview this ahead of a reprint.
An adorable book about a chick hatching for Easter. Well written and well drawn. I like the chick inside the egg in the pictures when chickie is thinking something.
Pleasing, but not earth-shaking, this wordy picture book is about a young chick who is adamant it wants to be born on Easter Sunday morning. The owl teaches the mother hen about the timing of Easter, and we learn half the phases of the moon and the days of the week – but it's not really got the spark to convey the delight such a successful chick might feel to the reader. Three and a half stars.
Thank you, North South Books, for the advance reading copy.
The story is about a mother hen worrying about the chick that's not yet out of the egg. But then the mother has to wait patiently amidst the confusion and advices offered by the wise characters around. It reflects the idea of Easter which happens sometimes in March and at other times in April.
I would have appreciated the book better if the fonts are made more visible and easier to the eyes considering the target audience.
I love the illustrations. I would say it's the highlight of the book.
An adorable little book about a chick that wants to hatch on Easter. I really enjoyed the story and thought the artwork was lovely. I think this would be an excellent book to give to a child for Easter or to read on the first day of Spring.
