I'm a librarian that quilts, and welcome a book on a new way of quilting. There are great explanations of techniques, the one on scant 1/4 seam is the best I've seen. A good book for beginners and also experienced quilters who may have lost their enthusiasm and will be tempted by a small project that is just a bit different.
As a cross stitcher, I am always amazed at the different ways embroidery hoops are used. This book presents a unique way to get into quilting on a smaller scale, without committing to a massive project. I think this would also be a great way to use up fabric remnants.
This book is everything I look for in a crafting how-to book. Lots of beautiful, colourful photos to follow along with and very detailed step-by-step instructions. You do have to have a basic knowledge of sewing, and need some specific tools, but overall I think this a craft anyone who is interested in sewing or embroidery can get into without prior experience. The book includes 15 hoop quilt projects as well as some bonuses and general instructions that can be adapted to your own imaginative ideas.
I particularly like the Pine Wreath project and think this would make a nice, modern Christmasy decoration.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my advanced reader's copy.
Couple years ago, I starting patchwork and quilting hobby. As beginner I started with wrong feet. I choose a big blanket project. As you can guess it is done but the journey is full tears.

This book has been very informative and I can't wait to try my hands at quilting. Quilting looks really fun and that's why when I saw this book I couldn't wait to read it and see what I could learn if possible to make a quilt and hopefully a new generation of quilter's.
This book has a lovely selection, of both traditional and not so traditional quilt blocks, used for small projects. The hoops provide a wonderful way of displaying the finished blocks, given he beginner quilter a finished product that can be achieved easily and quickly, before tackling a large quilt.
They make lovely gifts, create wonderful wall decorations and help to hone in a skill for the uninitiated.
Love this book.
I have so many fabric scraps, but I do not have time for quilting. This book provides the perfect solution! The color diagrams and descriptions are clear and easy to follow. The projects themselves can be modified for a variety of tastes and aesthetics, which I love. I can see myself doing so many of these projects!
Special thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC.
Written during the pandemic, which seems a great time to write a crafting book, this book is filled with ideas for patchwork quilts in the size of an embroidery hoop. Super cute designs with full color pictures and easy to follow step-by-step instructions.
I love crafting – I get immersed in it and less the stress of the day fall away.
Can’t wait to try one of these designs!

I sew but have never quilted. So I wanted to see if this book might give me a taste for quilting, as I want to try it.
I really liked the book and in the future would like to do some hoop quilts to decorate my craft room.
This book is visually appealing with 15 designs that are easy, quick and perfect for a beginner quilter as the title suggests, I would say, it may be better for the reader to already have some knowledge of either hand or machine sewing. As and experienced quilter, I think it would make the quilting part easier, and flow faster.
The book is well laid out, setting the quilter up to collect the necessary tool, fabric, materials and then, once ready demonstrates how to properly cut the fabric, sew, embroider and top stitch finishing with the hoop and sealing it off. You can make tassels for the final embellishments.
The step-by-step instruction is easy and a great way to use up scrap materials, or re-use old fabrics you may have around the house. This book would also make a perfect gift for the crafter in your life.
Thank you to Fox Chapel Publishing, Landaur and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.
A lovely book with inspiring creations. This is an ideal book for someone taking their first steps in patchwork and quilting as the projects are small and easily managed. The book has chapters on the tools and materials needed and the techniques used. Each of the 15 projects are accompanied by step by step instructions with plenty of photographs and illustrations for guidance. Each project has added embellishments and full instructions on the embroidery stitches used are given.
Last year, I bought a box of fabric scraps so that I could make a fun quilt. The problem? I have yet to actually start quilting! When I saw this book, I thought that hoop quilts would be a great way to dip my toes into quilting. It’s done on a small scale, so I won’t get overwhelmed piecing together a throw blanket while also learning how to quilt.
As a total beginner, the list of tools and why we need them is extremely helpful. There are things I already have since I cross stitch, embroider, and sew. However, there are still some supplies (like a rotary cutter) I should pick up because it’ll just make life easier. I love that the information is brought in such a simple format. It’s easy to gather what’s needed and why without feeling overwhelmed.
One thing I love about this book is that it’s extremely beginner friendly. There’s a lot of information included, but it’s presented in a way that makes it seem very simple. I love that there are step by step instructions along with graphs and other helpful information. Plus, the entire opening has a lot of information that will be needed at some point during the process of making hoop quilts, so it’s easy to flip back and double check the instructions before moving forward.

Hoop Quilts for Beginners is a nice collection of hoop quilt projects. The book includes items needed, templates, tips and step-by-step directions. At the beginning of the book is a nice quick tutorial on supplies and different options and how they're used. I liked the Bear Star and Dresden plate patterns best but didn't see any to compel me to purchase this book, though I'm not a hoop quilter (have done some quilting though).
I love the idea of these hoop quilts. It allows you to take small scraps of fabric and create beautiful miniature quilts to display in a hoop. These can be a miniature version of a large project or even gifts for family and friends. They can even be used to help you design your own quilts.
The book includes all the resources required from hoop size, to embroidery thread and applique. It also includes a number of projects in a variety of hoop sizes. My favourites are the Original Quilt, Bear's Star and Dresden.
The fact that the quilts can be made from scraps of left over fabric from other projects makes these projects cost effective but with great visual impact.
For anyone interested in learning to quilt as I did, will love this book. The illustrations and explanations are clear and concise. This is the perfect book to learn and expand the gentle art of quilting and I heartily recommend it as a great addition to your craft library. Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and Annemarie for her excellent book.
These are cute little quilts designed for display in round embroidery hoops. They'd be a fun way to play around with different techniques, including curved piecing, triangles, applique, and embroidery and would be great gifts when you don't have time to make a full size quilt. The patterns are varied and most come with instructions to make them fit four different sizes of hoops.
What a delightfully inspiring book that took my interest from the first time I saw the colourful cover.
Great instructions and has given me new ideas to do something I would never have thought of.
Many quilters who have never tried a hope before will love this book.
This is a well illustrated and clear guide to creating your own hoop quilts. There is a good variety in the fifteen design projects. I thought the embroidery stitches guide was particularly useful. Thank you to Anne Marie Chany, Net Galley and Landauer Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have always wanted to learn how to quilt. To take scraps of fabric and to be able to turn that into something useful is definitely on my bucket list of things to learn. So, when I spotted Hoop Quilts for Beginners: 15 Designs from Easy Patchwork and Embroidery, I’m thinking making a quilt on a hoop would be more on a scale of me to be able to try out. I’m a beginner to using a sewing machine. I’ve been hand-sewing crafts for years. But a sewing machine, guess I have something to thank a pandemic for. It got me digging out a hand-me-down sewing machine and trying my hand at make masks. Which, FYI did not turn out so bad.
Let me begin with the book I am reviewing is an eBook and not the actual paperback. Maybe having a real book would have made things a bit simpler. I could mark the pages versus scrolling through to find where I needed to be. I found the list of supplies very helpful as I really had no idea what I needed. The pictures of the quilts are beautiful and very inspiring for me to try out color combinations. There’s quite a bit of information with dimensions provided on pieces I would need to cut. Got to admit, I did occasionally find myself lost a few times while attempting to make my first hoop quilt.
Maybe this wouldn’t be quite the perfect book for an uber new beginner such as myself with having almost no sewing machine skills. I did have a friend who can sew but not quilt, help me out and she had no problems following along. It’s certainly a nice book to have and once I’ve got more sewing skills under my belt, I plan on making another attempt.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
AnneMarie Chaney’s book Hoop Quilts for Beginners is a different take on conventional quilting with the aim of producing various styles of hooped designs as décor, primarily as wall hangings rather than the traditional bed covering or blanket usually associated with quilting.
The book provides detailed information covering tools and equipment, techniques, hand stitching / embroidery instructions, and many patterns to replicate or modify. The ideas presented are creative and aesthetically pleasing and provide an accessible starting point. The projects also present a valuable source of inspiration for other designs and possibly other decorative frameworks beside the round hooped format explored in the book.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others interested in quilting, stitching or related creative pursuits.
Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
