When I saw the listing for Hoop Quilts for Beginners on NetGalley, I was instantly attracted to the Alison Glass fabric used in the design on the cover. These projects are a great way to use leftover scraps of fabric or even orphaned quilt blocks. We are in the middle of a never-ending move and all of my quilting supplies have been packed for months. I can't wait to make one of these hoop quilts as soon as everything is unpacked. It will be a quick project and a much-needed creative outlet.
My only criticism of the content itself is that this may not be a book for a true beginner. Even though Chany goes over the basics, some knowledge of sewing and quilting would be beneficial. Now I will say a physical copy of this book would have been preferred to the digital copy. First of all, the formatting was odd in some places, with the steps shown out of order or mixed together. Also, the digital copy leaves me without the templates. Because of this I am not likely to make any of the projects featured, just use them for inspiration. Once again this is only possible because I have experience with quilting and can figure out what is being done.
All that said, this is still a good book and I would highly recommend purchasing a physical copy of it. Hoop Quilts for Beginners will be available this summer. Thank you @NetGalley and @FoxChapelPublishing for this free copy.
The book has step by step instructions on making the hoop quilts. I really like the author's color choices - juicy bright colors, but of course the same quilts can be done in any color. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. There are patterns listed in many sizes to fit different sizes of hoops. YOu only need small quantities of fabric to make the quilts.
I received a free digital copy of the book from NetGalley
Hoop Quilts for Beginners
15 Designs from Easy Patchwork and Embroidery

What was old is new again - an excellent how to book for a new age of quilters and crafters.
My aunt ran a quilting club in a senior center when I was a kid and spearheaded many a quilt show. The artistry, skill and creativity involved in these masterpieces is always mind boggling to me. This book takes the long standing craft of quilting and centers it into creating a piece of wall art by doing it in a hoop. More accessible and less daunting. Yet also creating a foundation skill set that can be used as a jumping off point. So many fun ideas. Excellent how to illustrations. 5/5

This is a book for beginners, but not people brand new to hoop quilting.
This book has some patterns and some explanations for how to put together the hoop quilts. The book is broken down by step - selecting materials, picking patterns, adding embellishments, etc. Some of the information in the book feels a bit high level for true beginners, the instructions seem to assume that you at least know something about this process and how things work.
Overall a nice read for someone who has an idea of what they're doing, but not for just getting started.
Lovely book and very well explained projects. A mixture of patchwork, embroidery and appliqué to produce pretty hoops for decoration. The projects could easily be used as inspiration for other uses.
Highly recommended but perhaps not for a real beginner.
Beautiful photographs and lots of graphs and illustrations Make this beginner's instructional book a fabulous start to a wonderful craft. A mix of quilting, embroidery and sewing are combined to make these single quilt squares framed by an embroidery hoop. The author does a phenomenal job of describing tools, techniques and supplies with easy to understand step by step instruction. This is one of the most informative and helpful books on Quilting I have read. Read carefully and you could be making these beautiful works of art soon.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I have been interested in making a quilt and this was very informative and I will be for sure going back to this book again and again. Thank you!
This book may be titled for beginners but it's not for absolute beginners like me. For one thing, I didn't realize you don't end up making quilts but making quilted wall hangings in embroidery hoops, which shows what a novice I am. Also, while it has directions and color photos and patterns, I found it all rather overwhelming. I think if you are a quilter who is a beginner at hoop quilts it will be great since it's such a small scale project. I was also hoping for hand sewn projects since I am way more comfortable with that than fighting sewing machines that always seem determined to drive me to liquor, but this is a very fiddly sewing machine project sort of book. Press seams at each step, use this type of sewing machine foot, iron on interfacing, cut out these little shapes and stitch them to this bit, and so on.
These are lovely projects and there's a variety of styles and looks. They are a little over my head, sadly, but that's only because my head is so very low when it comes to quilting. :)
Three stars for "liked it."
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
This book will be a revelation for any crafters who, like me, love the idea of quilting, but feel overwhelmed by the notion of completing a sizable project. This highly informative book covers all the basics you will need to jump right in with hoop quilting. The adorable projects introduce concepts of quilting, seaming, embroidery, embellishment, binding and finishing. The instructions are well -written and well-illustrated, these projects will appeal to everyone from beginners to seasoned quilters looking for something to mix-up their sewing. I am already itching to pull out my scrap bin and give some of these projects a try!
Fun ideas for embroiderers or quilters who want a nifty new project. This book is filled with techniques and templates to help get you inspired.

I didn't even know that loop quilting was a thing but it's a great book very detailed
A lovely new quilting book specially geared to beginners and focusing on small hoop items, giving beginners the opportunity to learn on a small scale.
Lots of information for a beginner with great instructions that are easy to understand.
Great work and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to review this one.
A lovely book with inspiring creations. This is an ideal book for someone taking their first steps in patchwork and quilting as the projects are small and easily managed. The book has chapters on the tools and materials needed and the techniques used. Each of the 15 projects are accompanied by step by step instructions with plenty of photographs and illustrations for guidance. Each project has added embellishments and full instructions on the embroidery stitches used are given.
This would make a delightful gift book.
