An engaging picture book about elephants at the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington, D.C. Dozens of colorful photographs of the zoo's Asian elephants amplify the text.

You will learn:
- how smart elephants are and what amazing creatures they are!
- how elephants eat (and how much!), play, use their trunks. and communicate with one another
- how they are cared for by their keepers
- how their health and physical condition are monitored daily
- how they are "enriched" - what their keepers do to help them learn to skills and keep active
- and more!

O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. (Psalm 104:24)

Elephants on the Move: A Day with an Asian Elephant Family by Lela Nargi is a nonfiction picturebook created in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute. It is currently scheduled for release on August 1 2022.

Rumble and mumble. Trumpet and stomp! Meet Kamala, Rani, Bozie, Swarna, and Spike! These busy Asian Elephants have formed a family at Smithsonian’s National Zoo. Discover a day in the life of this elephant herd, how keepers interact with them, and how this work helps wild elephants thousands of miles away.

Elephants on the Move is an engaging and informative read for lower elementary age students. I thought the pictures and information chosen balance nicely, keeping reader focused on the book and interested in the text. I like that readers get a good look at the daily life of these elephants in the zoo, and a greater appreciation for both the animals and the work that goes into running a zoo and caring for all the animals, and keeping them happy and health. The information was well chosen and accessible to readers, although it might be a little tough going for some younger or less advanced readers. I think this book would be a great addition to school and classroom libraries as well as public libraries and personal collections.

Great book about a family of Asian elephants at the Smithsonian Zoo. Full of lively photographs, it follows the daily routine of the family as they eat, exercise, bathe, and interact with their keepers. Kids with an interest in animals and care of creatures will love this book!

When I saw this book about Asian elephants, I thought it was going to be about Laos once known as The Land Of A Million Elephants. Instead it is about the protected ones living in the Smithsonian Zoo, also known as the National Zoological Park in Washington DC and has no admission fees despite a large staff and a number of qualified veterinarians. There are many pictures of the elephants having fun and being taken care of by committed staff and veterinarians. This grandma learned a lot and I hope to see the print copy in school and local public libraries!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book copy from Capstone/Capstone Editions via NetGalley. Thank you!

This sweet and informative nonfiction book tells the story of a group of Asian elephants who lived in the Smithsonian National Zoo. The beautiful pictures show all elements of the elephants' daily life, from being fed, cared for and learned about by the scientists, vets and zoo keepers who spend their days with them. This book shares so much great information through both visuals and text that will teach young learners about the important work and care that zoos provide for animals. As a grade 3 teacher, I could see my students being so engrossed in this text mainly because of the connection to these particular elephants, making the information relevant and easy to connect to. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the 4-10 age range. I so appreciate Netgalley and the publisher giving me the opportunity to read and review this fantastic book!

Elephants on the Move is a beautiful children’s nonfiction picture book all about the Asian elephants who live in the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. This book introduces young readers to a family of elephants and tells all about a typical day for the elephants. It talks about elephant behaviors and how the elephants are cared for by the zoo keepers. There are also gorgeous pictures of the actual elephants which any elephant lover will absolutely adore. The back of the book also contains additional facts about elephants and a glossary.
This is the perfect book for any child who loves elephants. I plan to add it to my classroom science library.

This is an excellent educational book about an Asian elephant family; two of which were born in human care while three were born in the wild in Sri Lanka. These elephants live in the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C. where scientists study them to learn more about their needs and behaviors. Studying this elephant family helps the scientists to better protect the remaining endangered 50,000 Asian elephants in the wild.

The wonderful pictures in this book are actual photographs of the typical day in the life of these beautiful and intelligent creatures.

It is noted that this book is designed for children ages 8 – 12, but I think younger readers would enjoy it as well. This book could also be used in the classroom as part of varied learning modules.

I deeply enjoyed reviewing this book. I learned many things I didn’t know about these socially gentle animals. I was surprised to learn that elephants spend 18 hours acquiring and eating 135# of food a day. Not so surprising, they produce 100 pounds of pooh!

I want to thank Author Lela Nargi, Capstone Editions Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this Advanced Reader’s Copy. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.

Thank you, Capstone, for the advance reading copy.

I have gained so much information about elephants from this book. Much more than I was expecting to get!

I find the real pictures of the elephants and those in charge of taking care of these animals a real surprise to be honest and I am so impressed with this idea.

Respect for the team and the keepers who work hard for the wellbeing of elephants. As we all know, they are being an endangered species in most parts of the world where they inhabit and they totally need more protection.

Such an insightful and informative book. Kudos to the team.
