I have read and enjoyed all the Love Heart Lane novels and this is no exception to this excellent series. The deep roots, community spirit and friendships described are like a warm hug. More serious issues are addressed particularly homelessness and child welfare. Although part of a series it could be read as a standalone book. Highly recommended.

My only bit of advice when reading this book is not to read it on an empty stomach! Set in a bakery, the descriptions of freshly baked bread, croissants, cake, chocolate, my mouth was literally drooling at all the scrumptious sounding food.

Even freezing temperatures couldn’t spoil the wonderful idyllic setting of Heartcross, if anything it added to it’s charm. It did make for some what sombre reading though in part as the author touches on the subject of homelessness of which it really brings it home to you when people are living on the streets at the coldest time of the year. My heart went out to Bree and to everyone who finds themselves in this situation. I think it made me warm to Molly even more if that were possible as she is a lovely character but her gentle and thoughtful nature really gelled with me.

The author packs so much into this novel and I couldn’t put it down. The small community feel and wonderful characters had me wholly engrossed. Picking up a book in this series always makes me feel like I’ve come back home and they are so warm and comforting. This one especially left me feeling uplifted as well as craving for fresh bread and cake! New Beginnings at the Old Bakehouse was every bit as scrumptious as I had imagined. A novel that wraps you up in a great big hug and has you feeling all warm and rosy inside!

This is book #9 in the Love Heart Lane series, and between you and me this has to be my favourite yet! Whilst it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book. We are back in the little Scottish village of Heartcross and we’re focussing on Molly McKendrick and her partner Cam who run the village’s bakery. The bakery is doing well, and they are considering looking for a new assistant, especially as Molly is heavily pregnant with her second child. Cam has worries on his mind though, and when he finds he has been entered into a bakery competition that just seems to exacerbate things more!

I have to say, I LOVED this book!! - the storyline was so heart-warming and blooming lovely how could I not have done!! The characters were just so likeable, and I loved how it had a wintery theme with lots of snow and ice! Molly is wonderful and I loved her relationship with Cam and her son, George. Whilst helping a homeless shelter based across the bridge, Molly gets involved with a young homeless girl called Bree and this goes on to cause a few problems between her and Cam. The storyline is written so well and not only does it tug at your heartstrings and have you reaching for the tissues, but it also fills your heart with joy and will leave you with a smile on your face!

The storyline flows along so well, and I became caught up in Molly and Cam’s story very quickly. Of course, it did help that there was plenty of tasty baked goods on offer, and when chocolate bread was introduced…well, what can I say, I was well and truly hooked! We get to meet some of the other villagers, who we have met in the previous books, but they were all met in passing as the storyline is definitely all to do with Molly, Cam and of course, Bree! Bree is a great character who my heart went out to. She was so young to be homeless and I couldn’t help but shed a tear or two for her storyline.

This was an absolutely wonderful read, having everything I’d want from a book. Once I’d started it, I knew it wouldn’t take long to finish and I was right, finally turning that last page over in less than a day. It does broach some difficult subjects, but the author has done a fantastic job in dealing with these sensitively and in keeping with the storyline. Full of family, friendships and, of course, all things baked! Love, loved, LOVED it!! Would highly recommend!

I received this book via NetGalley and give it my honest opinion.

Book number 9 of the Love Heart Lane Series by Christie Barlow!

This is my all time favourite series of books and with every new book comes love, laughter and the struggles we all might experience in life at some point!

Well written and will have you hooked by the first chapter! Pure escapism at its best, I love meeting up with old characters and exploring the new ones. Molly and Cam are a delight to follow in their story of supporting a homeless girl, such an inspiration. Bree is a great character but you will have to read to find out why .

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved how the relationship between Molly and Bree developed. Well done Molly for having so much faith in Bree and helped her to develop her skills. She just knew in her heart that Bree was someone special. A lovely story with a heartwarming ending.

I have recently discovered Christie Barlow and her books are a delight. Well written with good detail and characters but with a leaning towards more difficult issues sensitively portrayed. In this case testicular problems and homelessness. Her character of Bree the homeless girl is beautifully and intelligently drawn. Full of hope and uplifting. Lovely read.

I absolutely adored this novel!

I love a novel set in a bakery and this one was delightful - I could almost smell the bread and pastries! The Old Bakehouse in the snowy Scottish winter is such a cosy setting, I was hooked from the first chapter.

I fell in love with all of the characters, each one was quirky and likeable, particularly Bree who was a joy to read about. Christie Barlow has a writing style which immediately relaxes me and this novel gave me a few hours of pure escapism from of the stresses of daily life!

A heart-warming read.

This absolutely delightful book grabbed me in the first chapter and never let me go. A group of wonderful and realistic characters, a snowy Scottish setting and a storyline that had my heart overflowing created the perfect book. A young pregnant mother of a little boy meets a homeless teenager at a local shelter. This begins a tale of kindness, friendship, family secrets and love. I couldn’t put this heartwarming book down.

Thank you to Harper Collins Uk, One More Chapter via NetGalley for the opportunity to read this amazing book.

I never tire of books based around a bakery and when I was coming to the end of my staycation I wanted to read something light hearted and uplifting to provide a last dose of escapism before heading back to work and that’s when I came across New Beginnings at the Old Bakehouse by Christie Barlow. I did see that it was book 9 in the Love Heart Lane series which I haven’t read but the synopsis appealed to me so I took a chance on it as a standalone any way.
Molly is coming towards the end of her pregnancy and husband Cam wants to try and keep everything calm for her despite his own worries so when Molly then takes it upon herself to help Bree, a sixteen-year-old homeless girl he is not onboard with having this untrustworthy stranger in their home and shop.
This was such a heartwarming hopeful read that was easily read as a standalone and has just made me determined to work my way through the previous books in the series now. Molly has an absolute heart of gold determined to help those in need and to see the best in everyone. Cam was also a little sweetheart even if he wasn’t as trusting as his wife he still had good intentions in wanting to protect his family whilst struggling with his own problems.
I loved the baking element and the baking competition in the book it added charm and excitement to the storyline and yet again I am sat here desperate to open my own bakery…. If only I could bake!
Although there were parts of the storyline that were predictable I still enjoyed watching the events unfold.
The book does highlight the difficulties communities face when offering safe places and food for the homeless communities not just on typical day to day but also how much harder and more dangerous it can be when weather conditions take a drastic turn.
I loved every page of this book and raced through it in 24hours, it is certainly up there as my favourite by this author so definitely one I would recommend for an uplifting heartfelt novel.

Wow new beginnings at the old bakehouse is the most wonderful charming read full of Heartcross familiarity, magic and charm so fantastic to be transported back to that wonderful place with familiar characters and new exciting ones too!
This book continues molly and cams story and covers many issues such as abandonment, grief, loss, homelessness but overall it resonated with hope, forgiveness and family!
The progression of cam and mollys relationship, the growth of the bakery, and the kindness exhibited to the homeless community, tied in with secrets from the past, revelations and the inclusion of the wonderful new character Bree made this the most endearing read that I really didn’t want to end! So looking forward to the next love heart lane read!
Thank you netgalley for this early read!

This is the first book of Christie Barlow's that I have read and was prompted to request it as I have heard many good things about her Love Heart Lane Series but hadn't got round to reading any for myself.

Quick and easy, this was a pleasant and light-hearted read which explored some serious themes (homelessness and general struggles in life) with a light touch approach. I felt that Barlow's writing style was very simplistic and basic, the general sentence structure and speech fell slightly flat, almost as if it was directed towards a YA audience rather than adults.

Though the characters are likeable and well developed and the plot held my attention throughout, it is missing a certain depth which would have taken it up a level.
