This book started off intriguing but then started to fall a bit flat. I didn’t think the ending fitted the book
I’m giving this one four stars because I was thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it. I was a little disappointed with the ending and hoped it would go a different direction but there was a huge twist that made me gasp so I can’t be upset about that!
I found it hard to connect to the characters in this one. The plot had attracted me to the book but the ending really let me down.
I read The Girl Upstairs last year and really enjoyed it so was hoping for good things from After The Party. What this author is excellent at is putting the ‘psychological’ into psychological thriller, and I found this with her debut too.
The reader gets taken on a journey through Lizzie’s mind, making it easy to see why she makes the decisions she does and allowing us to feel all of her emotions including the fear and anxiety. For me, I think this could be categorised as more of a mystery than a thriller even though it did have that classic psychological aspect. I didn’t enjoy it as much as The Girl Upstairs but it’s a quick and fun read!
Not a great read
But read to the end
Didn’t pull me in.but I would still read other books by this author
Others might enjoy it
Thanks NetGalley
This was my first by Georgina Lees and I have another to follow shortly. I really liked Georgina's style, but felt she played it a bit too safe with this preditable thriller. I also felt that she made the characters a bit shallow and predictable but did develop them enough that we didnt need multiple POVs to feel the emotions of the characters. The storyline was very easy to follow and it held my interest throughout. I did find Dean to be a bit too much but he was interesting all the same.
Thank you Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ech, I have a really mixed feelings about that...
I thought it would be something a bit different. The office party after one woman is missing. Ok, seems to be a good start. Gosips, complecated relations, jelousy - we all know that the corporate enviroment can be very toxic. And for me, it was like a nice introduction to the mystery.
But then... I found it quite boring, let's say. I have guessed who the killer is like in the middle of the book, so it have ruined my reading then. I found some characters kinda blank - I mean there is nothing about them that stay in your mind longer and keeps your attention. They don't really characteristic at any way. And the ending... nah, I believe Georgina can do it better than that.
For me, 3/5. Have a potencial, but no big love this time.
I'm so sad.... this book was just not for me. I LOVED the synopsis and couldn't wait to get into it only to get 25% in without a single thing happening to move the plot along. For an "unputdownable" book, I sure had a hard time picking it up to continue it. The characters were fairly annoying, so I wasn't sure throughout the book if I actually wanted to be rooting for any of them. On top of all of that, the ending left me questioning everything I had previously read. I know several people who would likely love this book; I am just sadly not one of them.
⭐⭐⭐
This book was...special. 😂 I enjoyed it for the most part. It was actually really well written and well paced. The plot was engaging and kept me hooked throughout. The characters though, good gravy, not a single likable one in the bunch. Every one of them grown a$$ adults that acted like high schoolers. Especially Lizzie and her non stop mooning (bordering on stalking) after Dean. Who might I add, was NOT a catch in any way shape or form. 🧐 The twist at the end caught me off guard, however the ending itself was a let down. Overall, this one was a mixed bag for me. But this author has solid writing skills, so I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for her next book. 👍🏻

The blurb- He should have chosen me. I never should have chosen him. Lizzie has been in love with her colleague Dean for three years but he’s never given her a second glance.
When a job offer in London promises to launch her art career, she finally feels ready to upend her life in pursuit of her dream … until the night of the office Christmas party when Dean confesses his love for someone else—Rebecca, one of Lizzie’s closest friends.
A few days later, the police show up on her doorstep. Rebecca is missing.
This was a decent enough page turner, but not a stand-out read for me Im afraid. I didn't really care for the characters or what had happened to Rebecca which was the main premise, it felt like there was quite a lot of filler in the story that didnt really go anywhere, and which i found myself skimming over. I actually started it several times and put it down in favour of other books, which is never a good sign for me.
Not horrible but I do wish that it didn’t take 1/2 the book to get to the party to find out what happened. This plot I feel is done a lot so I was hoping for a major twist at the end. However it was a good decent read just wish there was a different ending.
One Night
One Secret
One Murder...
There is nothing more that feeds my soul like a party thriller....
After the Party is exactly what everyone needs to read to feel chills up their spine. Georgina Lees has been on my radar since I concluded reading The Girl Upstairs (LOVED!!) . I knew without a doubt in my mind that I would continue to read everything she would publish. Georgina Lees is a true storyteller who narrates with such ease that you will instantly gravitate toward her writing style.
After the Party is a highly suspenseful book, jam packed with characters you will love to hate. You will observe quite a few "mean girls" and ultimate betrayal. I found myself getting so angry and wanting to jump right on in the book to strangle someone, that is how "real" these characters felt.
The pace of this book pushes you right along and easily keeps you going to the very end. I read After the Party in one sitting without even one bathroom break! Yes, it is THAT good.
The twist packs such a punch you will literally feel it in your gut and it is completely unexpected.
I highly recommend After the Party as well as Georgina Lees first novel, The Girl Upstairs!
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of After the Party by Georgina Lees from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. WOW! This is an incredible book that will keep you heart beating out of your chest. I loved it and was completely blown away by the ending. Do yourself a big favor and read this as soon as you can, I promise you will not be disappointed!
Lizzie has been infatuated with her colleague Dean since he started working at the same company as her. Sometimes, Lizzie thinks he must feel the same about her. However, Lizzie’s bubble bursts at a work party when Dean confesses he is in love with Rebecca, another colleague. It comes as a shock a few days later when the police show up at Lizzie’s door, informing her that Rebecca has disappeared. This one is full of twists and keeps you guessing the entire way through! The ending definitely didn’t turn out how I expected but overall, this is a fun and fast read and I’d recommend it to those who like mysteries and psychological thrillers.

Rather a Tangled Web of Characters & Plots which sometimes are rather hazy & it's as though your reading the story through a Fog.
I found the book slow and unfortunately could not connect with Liz as I just did not like her. The story was a bit slow for me and Dean was another character that I did not like and the end even though was a surprise, it just did not connect all the dots for me.
This is a great story. I enjoyed it and read it very quickly. My only negative is the omnipresent mother of Lizzie, I felt she was way too possessive and not really true to life ……..maybe she is, but I know that, as a mother, I could never encroach in my daughter’s lives like that.
It is a tale of obsession, infatuation and true love. A good mystery at the heart of it, just let down a little by the sequence of events seeming rather unlikely
Thrilling read! I was able to connect with all of the characters and throughly enjoyed the story the author painted.
I will be looking out for this author in the future.
The blurb does this book no justice, it’s so carefully woven keeping intrigue piqued, around a story that could make you forget everything you have to do for the rest of the day.
I’m pretty sure this would be a hit with any thriller lover.
I had a love hate relationship with this book. I really didn’t like the character of Dean but enjoyed the character of Lizzie. The storyline was good with a very unexpected twist at the end. Would have preferred a different ending for Lizzie but overall I enjoyed the book.
