Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Kathryn Freeman for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I loved the concept of The Italian Job. However, I wasn't a fan of Jake and that adversely affected my opinion of Anna. I felt that Jake's character was a bit much, especially with the suggestive comments towards Anna. I did enjoy the scenic descriptions and it made me want to visit Italy right away. This was just a DNF and I read 27% before calling it quits. I do look forward to seeing what Freeman comes up with next; hopefully a similar trope in another beautiful country.

The Italian Job by Kathryn Freeman

A year in a gorgeous Italian castle…

When Anna Roberts’ life implodes, an online search leads her to an ad for the ultimate dream job – management of a gorgeous castle on the shores of Lake Como, accommodation included. The only catch? Anna can’t do it alone…

…With the last man on earth she’d choose!

The castle owners will only accept a couple as caretakers, which means Anna needs a man on her arm at the interview. Enter her neighbour, Jake Tucker. Though Anna and Jake have never seen eye-to-eye, Jake’s had a rough few years and an escape to Italy sounds ideal. Yet, when they get the job and jet off, Anna and Jake face an unexpected challenge. Pretending to be a couple is difficult … but pretending the tension simmering between them doesn’t exist is quickly proving impossible!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of The Italian Job! I enjoyed this book and loved that it was set in Italy. I loved the character growth for Jake as well.

I couldn’t put this book down. Wish I picked up this sooner. What chemistry between Anna & Jake. And the castle! Really enjoyed this book.

3.5 stars!

I love a good slow burn enemies to lovers romance novel and this delivers.

A quick read filled with all the things you would love in a romance: witty, angsty, romantic, and so so fun!

Fake dating, forced proximity, opposites attract, enemies to lovers…all set in a beautiful Italian castle? The premise and the cover had me hooked, and I wanted to love it, but there were so many hurt feelings and bristliness between them, I struggled to see them together. (That and given the distaste they seemed to feel for each other at the beginning, Jake going with Anna in the first place was something I had to suspend disbelief over as well.) I love a bit of spice in a romance book but the constant comments and thoughts from Jake about Anna’s various body parts grew pretty tiresome (as did his smirking. He smirked a lot!)

It was a fun, fast read but it wasn’t my favorite Kathryn Freeman book.

Jake and Anna have been neighbours since they were children, but not any old neighbours, they are neighbours that absolutely despise each other!

Despite this, the chemistry between them is off the roof. The plot begins with a fake dating trope, which quickly begins to change for Jake as he is beginning to see Anna in a completely different light. The tensions, bickering and chemistry between them both is a perfect mix.

This is the perfect book to read, if you are looking for something light-hearted. It has a summe feel to it as it is set in Lake Como, in a cute little village. It is a really good romance read and I would recommend.

The Italian Job by Kathryn Freeman is a wonderful book. It is a classic enemies to lovers set in Italy— how can you not love that? The characters and their backstories make an interesting story throughout. Overall, it is a solid read. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. I also purchased it on my own. These opinions are entirely my own.

This was just a case of not for me. I couldn’t really connect with the writing at all.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy

The Italian Job was a cute story. I normally don't like forced proximity, enemies to lovers situations and this one felt a bit forced to me. The setting was beautiful, but the book just seemed all too good to be true and the ending was wrapped up a little too perfectly.

This book fell flat for me unfortunately

I really liked the idea of the plot and LOVE enemies to lovers but only if it’s done really well. There’s a fine line between enemies that aren’t actually enemies and being mean and this just missed the mark for me unfortunately. It’s a shame because I like this authors other work.

I enjoyed the book but it wasn't really loving it. I liked the characters in the beginning and found myself skimming to get through. I don't mind bickering or even miscommunication but I just couldn't grasp on.

I've read books by this author before which I've enjoyed. This fell a little short compared to the previous books. I liked the idea of the plot, but I couldn't connect as well to the characters. The romantic interest could have been better - it did feel that the characters constantly argued with each other. I liked the beginning of the story and thought it had promise, but the storyline didn't hold my interest as much as I thought it would. It had a few moments which I enjoyed, and I did like Jake as the main male character,
