Enemies to lovers and fake dating? Sign me up! I overall enjoyed this story. At times, I found the characters emotions to not fully reach me, but the general romance made up for that. I think this book will make a good beach read for most readers.
I am so glad One More Chapter gave me the opportunity to read this! The Italian Job was the perfect escape. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, and with the addition of the gorgeous setting of Italy, I KNEW I would enjoy reading this one! <3
Anna and Jake were such fascinating characters. The enemies-to-lovers theme in this book was so adorable. I don't think I have ever read a romance between neighbors before, so this was such a refreshing/new kinda book for me! The banter between Anna and Jake absolutely stole my heart. :') I loved how they connected by sharing their grief/hurt-filled pasts with each other.
I never felt bored while reading The Italian Job and finished it in a day. I love finding easy, swoony reads like this. Can't wait to read more from Kathryn Freeman <3
This was a cute and fun read! It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it was still enjoyable.
I liked the connection the characters had, although at times it felt a bit young for their actual ages. I thought the pace was good, and I loved the enemies to lovers and forced proximity aspect of this book!
Overall a cute rom com, with some scenes that could've been spicier!
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC!
Anna needs a fresh start after a bad breakup. She finds the perfect job listing in Italy on Lake Como but the listing requires a couple. She takes a chance by asking her annoying neighbor, Jake, if he will pretend to be a couple and apply with her. Jake also needs a fresh start after a few hard years so even though he thinks Anna is uptight, he decides to go for it.
It took me a while to finish this book even though it was a pretty easy read. The beautiful Lake Como is the perfect setting for a romance, but I had a hard time with the book's second half and the amount of miscommunication and unspoken feelings. I also wanted the characters to have a bit more depth besides their physical descriptions and things that happened in their past. It had a lot of potential but just ended up falling a bit flat for me.
This had the great good feel factor filled with tension. I loved Anna and Jake and following them on their journey of love. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book,
This book has been in my TBR pile for a while and, after finishing, I don't know what took me so long to start! I LOVED the history between Jake and Anna. A pain in the butt next door neighbor who secretly threw stones at her window just to catch a glimpse of her (albeit in her slink pjs)? Adorable!
The author writes with playful banter and thoughtful emotions alike. Yes, Jake's stint in prison was brought up so much because it had a huge impact on his life and his psyche. Anna is also emotionally damaged from a spiteful ex and the two wounded individuals find solace (and love! and redemptions!) with one another.
The supporting characters were so well loved. Rosa and her dancing hips- phew! Will and Sara? Delightful. Even Anna's dad, Jake's mom and his sisters- I loved them all. A fast, fun read with a gorgeous backdrop in Lake Como to boot!
Lovely story with a gorgeous cover. Loved the characters and the plot. Easy read which i read in two days!
This is a fun romp with likeable characters who go through quite a process of accepting each other for their strengths and obvious attraction. An incredible Italian setting makes it all the more appealing.
Kathryn Freeman is back with another feel-good romantic read that you won’t want to put down. The Italian job is the 6th book in Kathryn’s rom-com series.
If you are looking for a feel-good read this summer then you need to add The Italian Job to your to-read list. It’s the perfect beach read. Has everything you want in a book, lots of laughs, characters who each have their own story and you really feel like you know. The will they won’t romance and the love-hate relationship all give the story lots of layers and creates a wonderful dynamic between Anna and Jake.
The Italian Job by Kathryn Freeman
A year in a gorgeous Italian castle.
When Anna Roberts' life implodes, an online search leads her to an ad for the ultimate dream job – managing a gorgeous castle on the shores of Lake Como, accommodation included. The only catch?
The castle owners will only accept a couple as caretakers, which means Anna needs a man on her arm at the interview. Enter her neighbour, Jake Tucker. Anna and Jake have never seen eye-to-eye, Jake's had a rough few years, and an escape to Italy sounds ideal. However, Anna and Jake face an unexpected challenge when they get the job. Pretending to be a couple is challenging.
The Italian Job is another fabulous easy read book by Kathryn Freeman. I enjoyed everything about this fun, feel-good story. Anna and Jake, the two protagonists, both have problems that they would like to put behind them; they are engaging characters. Will romance blossom, or will they want to go their separate ways? You will need to read it to find out.
I want to thank Publishers One More Chapter, author Kathryn Freeman and Rachel's Random Resources for the tour invitation and a copy of the book to read and review.
I found this one a bit repetitive for my liking, I had to stop reading halfway through. I think I’ll come back to it later in the year and hopefully enjoy it a bit more!
This book seemed promising at first but quickly fell flat. This book was okay, but a bit repetitive. The constant miscommunication really hurt this book.
Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
Idyllic setting but I didn't love the characters. Too many details made it awkward and redundant. I think this would be best read around the pool or beach vacation. Fluffy, easy to digest. Wasn't my favorite rom-com but it was cute enough.
This book had the perfect setting, a budding romance in the middle of Italy inside of a dreamy castle, complete with two very good-looking and highly compatible people who used to hate each other? It seemed to check all of those boxes, but unfortunately, wasn't for me. It seemed every chapter described their desire for each other in very great detail, then would repeat the next chapter. I found myself struggling with the words they used to describe each other too.
Overall a spicy rom-com, just not one for me.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
Unfortunately this wasn't for me. I really liked the concept but the writing and the two main characters ruined it for me, especially Jake. I feel like he was mean to Anna for no reason. These characters were supposed to be almost 30 and they acted like teenagers.
This was cute! I loved the setting--it really felt like I was transported there. I wasn't totally gripped the entire time I was reading this, but it was like sitting outside on a warm day--comfortable and nice.
Kathryn's done it again!
The Italian Job is a perfect summer read, it'll leave you hungry, and feeling for a change in career!
The fake dating and enemies to lovers tropes will never get old, and both are perfectly executed here. I read the book in one go as I couldn't put it down. Likeable characters, witty and engaging writing, and actually quite a bit more to the story with Jake having gone to prison, and finding himself navigating the world again, avoiding the potholes of misconceptions and judgement.
Both characters have to let go of their insecurities in order to meet each other in the middle, and the narrative provides a good exploration of two people essentially starting over and giving life a chance.
I've read quite a few other books by the same author and this one did not disappoint.
I liked the unique premise of this but didn't enjoy the writing very much. The premise was great, but I wish the setting- castle/Italian landscape was described in more detail. Jake made sense as a character, but he was just a bit too immature for my liking. On the other hand, Anna was great and her character development made sense.
I also thought there were excessive physical descriptions of Anna. Her breast size and olive skin were mentioned so many times that it was annoying. Also, her "Italian blood" being mentioned over and over was a bit much as well.
How do we go from a colorful cover rom-com promising a trip to Italy to having an ex con as the hero?
I honestly wish that such details would be included in the description so readers would not waste their time. I really don’t care why he went to jail and why he is such a great guy now. DNF for me.
I have never read a book by this author before, but the premise of this was too good to pass up! This book follows Anna, who is reeling from a break up that has shaken her confidence and humiliated her, as well as forced her to quit a job she loves. When she googles “Dream Job” she sees an ad for what seems like quite that, a dream job. Someone is looking for caretakers for a castle in Italy right on Lake Como! The only catch is they are looking for a couple to run it. Enter Jake, her neighbor who she has ALWAYS butted heads with. But through some luck, he is free and willing to pretend to be her boyfriend and take this job with her. They apply and get the job, and off they go. Of course, they argue and piss each other off at every turn at first, but then as time goes by they start to become friends, and of course, more.
I really liked this! I liked the writing style, and I loved the side characters, especially their parents and a few people they met in Italy. I did think some of the arguing was a little repetitive after a while, but it didn’t stop me from reading. It was just the lighthearted rom com I was looking for, and set in Italy no less! I will be checking out more from this author for sure.
I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own
