Good. Interesting story and characters. It didn't feel at times though a bit predictable so I didn't feel like the story was progressing as to how it should do.
Millie and Joe have the perfect meet cute one day at the train station, but then pass like ships, or trains rather, in the night, as they hope to see each other again. Once they do, sparks fly. Millie uses their encounters as material for her column at the urging of her editor. Both Millie and Joe seem to be at different places in their lives at the moment but Platform 3 is where they can always meet.
This was a cute story. Both characters were dedicated to their families and trying to make their place in the world. Joe was more solid than Millie, but I think she showed growth. I love books that are written in dual perspectives. The story and feelings of these characters needed this perspective.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This has a great storyline and some wonderful comedy to lighten up the plot. The female character is fun but the male character starts to get boring as the book goes on. The book is way too long for the plot and I found myself skimming and not caring so much what happened to them about half way through. Less talk and more action would have made this a really good book.
A proper feel good cosy romance.
I like reading a Zara Stoneley book, they always make me smile!
A chance meeting at a railway station, will they won't they, a misunderstanding, all put together to make a really good read.
Thank you NetGalley
I read this one in the space of two days! We follow Millie, a journalist who writes a confessions column about her life for a magazine. Only, her articles aren't doing so well recently. She runs into Joe, an IT tech/game developer, at the train station and feels an instant connection. She writes about their encounter, and it's a hit. Her boss and her readers are eager for more. But what if she never sees Joe again? And how will he feel about what she writes?
This was so much fun, I couldn't put it down. I loved reading Millie's confession pieces, and found her and Joe very engaging. I loved the side characters too, especially Joe's sister. Delighted to discover that this author has other books, will be reading them ASAP.
Will post on Amazon too.
Zara Stoneley is back to her witty best, in this light hearted rom com that had me giggling and smiling throughout.
It's a will they-won't they sort of a story, after a fabulous meet cute between Millie and Joe at King's Cross Station, we have no idea if or when they may meet again. And they have no idea if the initial attraction they felt is reciprocated. As a reader we do as we have chapters from both perspectives.
Millie is a journalist and has a "confessions of" column and one of my highlights of this novel was any time we saw her latest column. They were brilliantly funny and she had a way of describing a situation to a tee without giving up too many intimate details.
Filled with likeable and believable characters, and situations that I could easily see could happen, this is just a lot of fun. I loved it and it certainly is a great way to liven up a long train journey.
Very entertaining, I really had a great time reading this.
Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
A delightful, feel-good read that warmed my spirit and made me want to travel to the moors.
A quick read, with lovely characters.
The only villain or conflict seems to be their own miscommunication, but it happens and watching them process their feelings about each other, their lives, and who they choose to become is a sweet journey.
I like the way this books incorporates language specifically, it was written in a very funny and realistic way.
A five-star read you would miss a train for. I didn’t realise this was number nine in a series, but I didn’t feel like I missed anything, I will be checking them out, as I adored the writing, and the passion. I don’t know if its that I am a northerner living elsewhere, not the big smoke, but far enough away you need to plan your visits. It made me smile, thinking f the train journeys I have taken to get there, and the people you meet, maybe that’s why I enjoyed this charming read. There was just something special about the will they wont they aspect, as well as how Millie and her family deal with their grief, that adds another layer to the story, and makes it have a great depth, especially if you have lost someone it reminds us that we all grieve differently and need to remember each other. There isn’t any action, but there is drama, romance and a great overall story.
A perfect holiday read! Great storyline and brilliant characters. I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend it.
This was cute but it was missing something. I think it should have been a little bit longer so that we could get a proper conclusion. I don't feel as though we have an actual solution to their conundrum and I would like one.
I received an arc through netgalley.
This is a lovely read that is incredibly uplifting throughout most of the book and left me feeling really upbeat at the end of it. With two lovely characters in country born but city living Millie and Joe who connected from a brief meeting that left them both thinking about the other then with more than a bit of help from fate find themselves getting to know each other on train journeys back north however Millie’s job offers its own complications and they both seem miles apart in terms of their ideal lives. The emotions in this really carried me through, it felt genuine and heartfelt with characters that leapt off the page, this is a lighthearted read with a lot of depth. 9/10
A good concept, and one I enjoyed.
Fun and interesting.
I thought having both characters in the 1st person was a little odd, and potentially a bit repetitive. It can be more interesting when you don't know how the other one is thinking.
Easy enough read,
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a DNF for me. I ended up skimming and losing interest. Some slow burns are too slow to keep any interest.
I do enjoy a train-based book, and really loved reading this one! Millie bumps into a guy at the station who ends up shaking his wet umbrella all over her! They have a few minutes chat, he apologises and then they go their separate ways. However, Millie is a journalist who writes for a true-life confessions column, and when her boss tells her that she needs a new spin on her column, Millie automatically remembers the guy from the station and begins to write about him! It’s not all quite factually correct though, but what she does remember is that he was quite cute, and she makes it her mission for the sake of her love life, and her job, to find him again!
I liked Millie’s character and could sympathise with her from the start. She works in London but comes from Northumberland where her mum still lives. She lost her dad fairly recently, and her mum, sister and Millie are obviously still struggling with this. Cue the train journeys up and down the country visiting her mum and cue meeting Joe and his umbrella! Joe is in a similar position with his family living in the North East also and him working in London. Both of these main characters have their issues and flaws, but they are still both really relatable. I loved their interaction together and loved the initial awkwardness of the time spent together slowly turning into something more comfortable and natural!
The book is a little bit of a slow burner however, but I was happy with that. I enjoyed getting to know both their characters as the story moved on. Whilst I liked Millie’s character, some of her decisions and actions weren’t the best thought out of plans, but there are lots of life lessons learnt along the way. It was a humorous, light-hearted read, touching on some more serious topics from Millie and Joe’s lives and I loved how easily I settled down into reading it! A wonderful story would recommend!
A chance meeting. A spark of interest. When Millie and Joe bump into each other at King’s Cross station, it seems that fate is destined to keep them apart, until a train journey reunites them. Falling in love is easy but will their love continue to flourish when they are travelling in different directions?
A lighthearted and fun romance. This was an easy and entertaining read.
I like Zara Stoneley books but this story was a bit flat to be honest. Not enough conflict and a bit of a slow read. Still got a nice gentle read and ideal for a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC.
I really expected to love this book, but unfortunately, I didn't. The story just plodded along; I kept waiting for some excitement, some tension, some ... ANYTHING! While Millie and Joe were both endearing characters, they were sort of bland and their personalities were too similar. It was a feel-good happy ending but frankly, I was glad when I finished it.
While slow at times, I overall enjoyed this book. Slow burn romance with plenty of details
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own
I really enjoyed this book- a slow burn - will Millie find the man of her dreams again? Will her job get in the way of their budding romance?? I’m a fan of Zara Stoneley and this book dragged me in and wouldn’t let me go! I particularly enjoyed the Will they won’t they ??
