Aw this was a lovely story. A predictable romance but with main characters I enjoyed getting to know and a story to warm the heart.
I enjoyed reading about Sennen’s plan and how she wanted to get to the parting glass. I also enjoyed her gran’s back story. There wasn’t a character I didn’t like (well except Olivia and a Phillippa!) and although the story was predictable it was a lovely summer read and I was really able to visualize the house, gardens and beach. Great descriptive writing
Even though this is book 3 in a series, it’s a stand alone story so it wasn’t a problem that I hadn’t read the others. It’s a sweet, cozy romance with a touch of magical mystery thrown in to the mix. The main characters were very sweet, though I did often feel like I was Sennen’s mum watching from afar and did occasionally want to give her a good talking to. Her best friend Jess did that for me though and I did enjoy their friendship. I did enjoy the back stories of her grandma Morwenna and Victoria and loved the romanticism of the parting cup. All in all an enjoyable easy read that left me with a feel good smile. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced e-copy in exchange for a review.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and I loved it The characters are so well written and it is such a cosy read.
The book is about Sennen who owns a small business in beautiful Cornwall. She learns about her grandmother’s relationship from the past, and decides to find out more about what happened. It starts slowly at first, gathering pace as the story unfolds.
Sennen’s partnership with Ross is going nowhere, and as she explores Nancarrow, the dilapidated old mansion where her grandmother’s romance took place, she develops a sizzling attraction to Tremaine, the new owner.
Beautifully written, the beautiful rugged Cornish scenery is brought to life on every page. Descriptions of the coast and community sensitively described. Character driven, all are well drawn, relatable and friendly, and you feel empathy as you begin to know them. The book is about romance, family and friendships, also secrets which may threaten the romance.
Mainly light hearted and amusing at times, but also heartbreaking. A compelling, absorbing story which draws you in as the plot unfolds.
Sennen is a potter living in North Cornwall who finds a secret from her grandmother's past involving a forgotten beach and a parting glass.
I always enjoy books set in Cornwall and again the author has brought it to life for me. The house sounds wonderful and a visit to the beach sounds would be great, although I'm not sure about all the steps nowadays. There is a definite touch of mystique about the parting glass and its effect,I could understand why some would find this difficult to believe but would be fascinated myself. I'd certainly be out of my comfort zone at a party with "posh" people in it, which makes it easier for me to relate to Sennen. So overall this is a romance with a touch of something special and I did enjoy spending a day reading it.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review.
A journey into the hidden past of her grandmother. When Sennen goes looking for answers she comes across an opportunity for herself. Life requires you to take risks and step out of your comfort zone. The easier path in life is not necessarily the best.
The Forgotten Garden is book #3 in the Cornish Escape Series. It is a cozy romance built around the rich history of long forgotten house and its secluded beach. Sennen uncovers her grandmothers first love, along with a poem, that speak of a secret beach and a treasure hidden in the cave that tells the foreseeable future for couples.
The story is unique, cozy and filled with lovely characters. The romance is a breath of fresh air and the way they speak to each other will melt your heart.
Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, One More Chapter for the advance reader copy.
This was light, frothy, romantic fun. In many ways a typical boy meets girl story but with an engaging historical twist. Not exactly a future literary classic, but an engaging read set in one of my favourite places. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for a review.
Amanda James is a new author for me. Set in a beautiful location with relatable characters, a lovely heart-warming read.
Loved this book. Sennan is a Cornish potter who has her own shop. When her grandmother dies she starts looking into her life and is surprised at what she finds out about her. She also encounters grumpy Tremaine who turns out to be different when she gets to know him. Brings Cornwall to life with the descriptions.
An amazing story of families and, their fateful decisions, with an added twist of magic..
Set on the north Cornish coastline, potter Sennen meets Tremaine in this riveting story of betrayal, lies
and historical wrongs. Her quest for the elusive parting glass gives this story hope for the future. and love for
eternity.
A stylish and thought-provoking tale . I loved reading this book so much, I am sure that you will too. Enjoy.
This is my first book by author Amanda James. I understand it is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. A really enjoyable read. A love story of history repeating itself and I enjoyed how the story unfolds. Great characters and lovely descriptions of Cornwall. A lovey easy read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an arc in exchange for an honest opinion
Another nicely written book by Amanda James. It is a nice book to read when you want something light and easy to read. When you don't want anything heavy to read. It's a nice romance and finding yourself book.
The third in a series of totally standalone stories this book has the same format as the previous two and although I love the setting and know the places mentioned I found myself a bit bored by the formula, third time around. For new to the series authors it would be a good read with an old box with something inside it that takes current female back to her grandmother's story and beyond. It's well written bu an overused trope for me. Sorry Amanda James. With thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for a copy to read and review.
This lovely book is set in delightful Cornwall. Sennen is a potter & runs a shop selling her wares & other knick-knacks for the tourist. She is in a relationship with Josh, it's not all flowers & hearts but disappointment. Her life is stirred when she opens her Gran's 'treasure box' & finds keepsakes that lead her on a path of enlightenment.
Simple story but with such good characters that you can relate too.
I do enjoy Amanda James books, they are always so entertaining & interesting. Add this to your 'to be read' pile.
A wonderful story of love, heartbreak and loss. This is less of a boy meets girl and more of a heartbroken girl wants to find out about her grandmothers greatest love and loss and it leads her to someone who could become her one and only. The story of the parting glass has just begun for Sennan. The book is a rollercoaster of emotions and kept me interested all the way through. One line in it will stay with me for a long time as I thing it is just a beautiful way of describing the love of your life “I knew deep within that our souls were one, forever united. Today, tomorrow and always. Brief or long lasting, love and happiness are the greatest gifts of all”
A really wonderful read. An amazing love story of history repeating itself. I really enjoyed how the story unfolded. The restoration of the old house was a joy. I loved the description of Cornwall it was beautifully written. I held my breath at the end but thankfully it ended well. I really loved the story of the poem and the secret beach.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
This was beautifully written.
It’s set in Padstow, in Cornwall.
I loved the descriptions and the characters were lovely..
A book that I wanted to read to find out how it ended, and it was, as I expected.
I recommend this book.
Loved this book from the first page, a new author for me and enjoyed it so much . The relationship between Sennen and Tremaine is lovely and with a little bit of a heart stopping moment on the way. Loved the story and history of the parting glass.
Thanks to Harper Collins, One More Chapter and NetGalley for the early read
