I do love a story that has its roots based in something that occurred in the past of a main character, and The Forgotten Beach was exactly that.
Sennen finds out the story of her grandmother's first love, along with a poem, that tells of a forgotten beach and a special hidden treasure which forsees the future of couples. Settled in a relationship which she wants to move to the next level, Sennen has a plan.
She is eager to trace the origins of this story, and finds herself at Nancarrow House, searching for her grandmothers past happiness, and finds a whole lot more than just a hidden beach, in the end.
Complex characters, with a simple love story, and a heartstopping final arc, but the ending we all wanted!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter for an Arc in exchange for an honest review.

Cornish Escapes #3

For Cornish artist Sennen Kellow, that moment comes with the discovery of her late grans epic love story - a story that happened years before she even met Sennen's grandfather. Now, as Sennen digs into her grandmother's past and discovers a forgotten beach, a hidden poem, and a love that blazed brightly before fate intervened, her search for answers leads her on a fated journey of her own.

This is the first book in the series that I've read, Sennen is a Cornish potter/painter who runs an art store. Tremaine is a wealthy lawyer who has moved back to refurbish a family home. Sennen's gran had found a cave on Tremaine's property, and inside she found a parting glass. The glass is supposed to reveal your soulmate if it's used to toast on New Years Eve.

This story has quite a unique plotline and set in one of my favourite places, Cornwall. It did take me a few chapters to get into the book. This is a romance story that can be a little predictable. A well written story with lovely characters.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #AmandaJames for my ARC of #TheForgottenBeach in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Sennen loves the country and the small town she lives in as an artist. She's dated the same guy for awhile until she meets Tremaine. I liked the chemistry between Sennen and Tremaine. This was a good book.

The author does a wonderful job of describing the beauty of Cornwall and the small villages within the boundaries. I found this to be a nice romance without getting too steamy. The characters are easy to like and it is a quick read. Everything seems to happen very quickly and then there is that jump towards the end that didn’t sit right for me. Overall it’s a nice book and a good beach read. Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for the invitation to read this book.

Sennen has her own gift shop in Cornwall selling her pottery. Her love life is a disaster but when her Mum gives her a box which belonged to her Grandmother maybe her luck will change.
Inside is a poem which relates to a magic glass and also a story about her grandmother.
Will history repeat itself and Sennen find happiness again.

This is the 3rd book in the Cornish escapes series by this author. I have read the other two books so was looking forward to this one and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It cools also be read as a stand alone as each book is an individual story based on Cornwall. This book was perfect escapism and I read it in almost
One sitting. It was so much more than just a romance as it encapsulated love and loss and mystery and intrigue and how events of the past could shape the future. I loved how the past and modern day were intertwined to create this beautiful heartwarming and at times heartbreaking poignant read. I would love a follow on to this to see how the lives of the characters develop and what the future holds for them.

Sennen is a potter in a small village in Cornwall making and selling her wares in her own gift shop. One day her mother, while going through items belonging to Sennan's late grandmother tells her the story of her grandmother's first love and the parting cup.
Determined to find the parting cup which is said to be buried in the forgotten beach behind a stately house called Nancarrow, Sennen sets out to find it.

The house is is a terrible state and there is no way down to the beach as the stairs are dangerous. The owner of the house, Tremaine is called to speak to Sennan but he is rude and pompous and she fears he will never let her onto the beach.

I really enjoyed this story. The historical parts about two different couples are quite heartbreaking and the thought that history might repeat itself kept me glued to the book.
The main characters had both been unlucky in love and found it hard to move on and trust anyone. I did like most of the people in the story except of course for one who tries to upset the apple cart.
Like in all of Amanda Jame's books there is a bit of Cornish magic. Sometimes it's an object and sometimes it's just in believing that we can't always explain the unexplainable. I was also delighted to see a walk on part of one of the lovely characters from a previous book. One who has a touch of magic about her too.
A heartwarming love story sprinkled with magical folklore . My eyes were a bit teary at the end.

This is the third novel in the Cornish Escape Series and the story is told in dual time frame. The historical story tells of two families and the modern story does as well. The stories are woven together with the historical and modern revealing close relationships between the families in each generation. The main characters in the modern story are Tremaine and Sennen. Tremaine lives in London and is a Corporate Lawyer and Sennen lives in Cornwall and she is an artist.
Tremaine is very wealthy but he is not happy in his chosen career. He is the owner of a beautiful but neglected grand old house called Nancarrow. As the story begins he is commuting from London to Polzeath overseeing the renovation of his once upon a time family home. In the 90’s the family left the house and moved to London. The house was left without inhabitants but now Tremaine wants to restore it to its previous glory.
Sennen Kellow also lives in Polzeath on the Cornish coastline. She is a part owner of a shop called Sea Spray Gifts and she is an artist, making pottery and painting it with beautiful scenes of the seaside and surrounding area. Her boyfriend is called Josh and he is a surfer who teaches the techniques to holidaymakers and local surfing enthusiasts. She is in her mid-twenties and is ready to settle down, but Josh lives for the moment and is a bit of a dude. She is hoping to change his mind because he is her ‘The One’. No such luck as Josh is a cheat and he leaves her heartbroken.
One day Sennen’s mother shows Sennen her beloved Grandmother’s old Treasure Chest. In it is revealed a fascinating historic romance story and a piece of poetry. Sennen is determined to research the story in memory of her deceased Gran after she reads that Grandma had her first romantic links to the family and house they lived in, called Nancarrow. She decides to walk along the coastline to the house and it is there that she meets Tremaine, supervising the builders. They talk to each other, and Tremaine offers to show her the house. They become close friends and both reveal their broken relationships and other personal information. This is where the modern story is told and more revelations are made.
I enjoyed this novel in so many ways, from the absorbing and multifaceted storyboard to the beautifully lyrical writing and the skilled creation and development of the host of lovely characters. I also loved the family issues that were embedded deeply in this story, and the loyal friendships. I liked the way family lives were explored, and the deeply rooted insecurity and anxiety caused by remoteness and lack of family contact. I loved the tender romance and the way the author brought the story to a very satisfying end.
I received this book through my membership of NetGalley and from publisher One More Chapter in return for an honest review. Thank you most sincerely for my copy. I have always been an avid fan of Amanda James, a truly talented author who strives to write a beautiful story for others to enjoy time after time. It’s a well-deserved 4.5* review from me.

Delightful story with the past gently woven into the present. The characters in the history were a special part of the book, and I felt their presence as much are the current day characters.

I became quite fond of most of the wonderful characters in this book, of course most books have one or two that are not very likeable! I especially love the secondary characters of Ruan and Gio, who brought a smile to my face quite often while reading. The characters showed growth from who they were when the reader meets them and who they are at the end of the book. It was a joy to read as they transformed into stronger people.

The plot was unique and I was quickly drawn into the story. This was definitely a page turner for me! A bit of the mystical, a meant-to-be romance, a healing through unconditional love, a mystery to be solved, and a beautiful setting. What more can a reader ask for?

This is the third book I have read by this author, Amanda James and I love her creative and writing style. I will definitely be on the lookout for her future books.

I want to thank HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

This is 3rd (possibly final?) in the Cornish Escapes series. Each story has dealt with a different supernatural object at the center of a love story.

Sennen is a Cornish potter/painter who runs an art store and has become a bit jaded on love. Tremaine is a wealthy lawyer with parent issues who has moved back to refurbish an old family home.

Sennen learns, through a poem/letter from her Gran, of an old parting glass that her Gran found in a cave on a secluded beach on Tremaine’s property. This glass is said to reveal your soulmate if used to toast on NYE. Both her Gran and Tremaine’s great grandmother found true love this way but not without heartache. How will Sennen’s and Tremaine’s love story play out…will they find both lasting love but heartbreak as well?

While this story was well-written (if fairly predictable), I found myself frustrated at times with both leads (a bit immature, especially Tremaine). And to me, their relationship seemed to progress too rapidly considering they were both coming off long-term romances.

All-in-all my favorite of this series has been the first, and I found the following two just OK reads.

My thanks to the author, NetGalley and HarperCollins UK/One More Chapter for providing the free early arc of The Forgotten Beach for review. The opinions are strictly my own.

Sennen Kellow lives and works in a small town, Polzeath, in Cornwall. She loves her town, her shop and her family. She also loves Josh, her boyfriend, but has doubts about his commitment. Her doubts come to fruition and Sennen is left heartbroken. After a chat with her mum, she discovers some secrets that her gran managed to hide, and becomes intrigued. Desperate to find out more she visits the location of said secret and discovers that it is a beautiful if somewhat neglected house, overlooking the sea, with its own “forgotten” beach. There she meets Tremaine Nancarrow, the new owner. He is brusque, pompous and somewhat dismissive of Sennen, and she decides she doesn’t care for him much.

If you like a good romance, then this is the book for you. Just reading a few chapters will tell you what’s going to happen, albeit with twists, turns, misunderstandings and lustful thoughts! A very obvious plot, very much of its genre, but a pleasant, easy read. What sets this apart from its contemporaries is that it is well written and the setting is beautifully done.

Thank you NetGalley.

The Forgotten Beach by British author Amanda James is a story about a wealthy family, class distinctions, loves found, loves lost, and a hidden goblet that supposedly has the power to cause soulmates to recognize each other. When Sennen’s mother shares the story of her grandmother and the ‘parting glass’ Sennen goes on a quest to find this artifact. I found this character frustrating at times as her constant insecurities often made her socially inept and indecisive. The fact that this reader wanted to shake Sennen shows that Ms. James did an excellent job with her character definition. The big question is whether our fearful heroine will summon the resolve to actually find the goblet and perhaps her own soulmate. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Highly recommend.

A delightful love story set against a backdrop of the Cornish seascape. I had not read the other Cornish Escapes stories but this was quite satisfying as a stand-alone story. Sennen is recovering from a relationship breakup which leaves her vulnerable and slow to trust. She meets the owner of the house where her grandmother met her first love and seeks to find out the background to her story and that of the parting glass.

She has to decide whether she can trust this ‘damaged’ man and build a lasting relationship with him.

The parting glass seems to have both a positive and negative impact on those whose lives it touches - as a reader you are waiting for the misfortune to hit them. It came, was conquered and left us with a positive ending.

A lovely story - to be recommended.

The Forgotten Beach by A. James, published by Harper Clooins UK/ One More Chapter, is book three in the Cornish Escapes Series. The books are best read in order.
Blurb:
For Cornish artist Sennen Kellow that moment comes with the discovery of her late gran’s epic love story – a story that happened years before she ever met Sennen’s grandfather.

Now, as Sennen digs into her grandmother’s past and discovers a forgotten beach, a hidden poem, and a love that blazed brightly before Fate intervened, her search for answers leads her on a fated journey of her own. One which sees history repeating itself, and Sennen faced with a chance at the kind of once-in-a-lifetime love her gran experienced…but only if she’s willing to risk everything.

The Forgotten Beach is a book that took me a minute to get into. But then it turned into a beautful romance story that I enjoyed reading.
