This book was very predictable and unfortunately I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. I’ve read T.A Williams books before but, this one just didn’t hit the spot for me. I loved the setting and enjoyed all the characters but, I guessed the ending very quickly. I hope that the next book I read by this author is better and different. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Unfortunately I did not finish this book at 41%. I feel it had potential with the Italian setting but the chapters became repetitive for me and I wasn't invested in the characters. It seemed like the main character was reminding us that she was not ready for a new relationship so soon after her breakup every other paragraph between her inner monolouge, speaking to her mother, or her annoying friend who kept trying to push her to date her rich boss.
Escape to the beautiful hills of Turin, Italy in this sweet romance.
As far as settings go, you won’t find a more delightful one than in this book. Turin and the surrounding countryside in Northern Italy wasn’t really even on my radar, and now it is definitely on my ever expanding bucket list of destinations. Williams describes the scenery beautifully and I appreciated learning about the rich history and delicacies of the region. The foodie in me was salivating over the descriptions of the food. I’ll admit, I even found myself seeking out a local Italian restaurant to satisfy the craving this book induced. It’s easy to see why MC Louise falls in love with the area.
There are some fantastic characters in this book and my favourite are the staff of the hotel. Even though they are in their golden years, their warmth, wisdom and hardworking nature really shone through. Domenica, the hotel Assistant Manager particularly stood out, but I felt like I wanted to hug them all. Bonus points for a wonderful dog character in Leo, Vito’s loyal and adorable companion.
Williams sets up four potential love interests for Louise which keeps the reader guessing as to whom (if any) Louise will choose. Her boyfriend Tommy makes a reappearance, her boss Joseph seems to be making passes at her, her ex from her university days Paolo returns, and then of course the handsome and mysterious neighbour Vito. Whom will she choose? You’ll have to read it to find out!
4,5* upped to 5
I usually like TA Williams' rom com set in Italy and I couldn't wait to read this as it's set in my home turf and I know the area quite well.
I can say it passed any possible exam and I appreciated the description of the places, food, and people.
The story was compelling and entertaining, I rooted for the characters and liked the storytelling.
Highly recommended
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
An Escape to Remember is a title that felt destined to feature on my blog. I love the idea of escaping via the pages of a good book, and where better than to gorgeous Italy? TA William’s writing style is perfect for setting the scenes and making the reader feel like they are actually walking through the vineyards or plunging into freezing rivers.
Louise has an enviable job, working as a trouble-shooter for a luxury hotel chain. Protecting her bruised heart, she undertakes the management of renovations at the ageing Grand Hotel del Monferrato. She soon discovers that it’s not just the hotel that is showing its age, the staff are also of the more senior persuasion, yet fiercely loyal to the once beautiful business.
As Louise settles into her new role, she learns more about the hotel’s past and its former owner, Vito. The former life and soul of every party, Vito now lives a simpler life as a Lecturer in Environmental Studies at a University near Turin. Louise is drawn to him and the more she learns about his past, the more intrigued she becomes and determined to discover his secrets.
Of course, her main focus has to be on getting the hotel back on the map in time for a gala opening, but she also has the wedding of her best friend and the attention of a former lover to deal with. This was a busy story that passed at a wonderful speed with lots of plot twists to grab the reader’s attention.
Everything about this gorgeous story was perfect. The setting, the gentle romances, the renewed friendships and, of course, Leo the chocolate Labrador. With so many fabulous characters, it’s difficult to choose a favourite, until you meet Dominica and Calogero. I just wanted to meet and hug them both.
This was a wonderful escape and I can highly recommend it.
Another superb read by the wonderfully talented T.A Williams, I am a massive fan of his books and always jump at the chance to read his new release.
Set against the gorgeous backdrop of Italy, this story is rich in both landscape and romance. We meet Louise as she discovers her love life isn't at all where she thought it was and accepts a new assignment in Italy renovating a gorgeous old hotel.
Louise is a wonderful leading lady who is full of warmth and compassion and not what you would have expected for someone completing the job she had been sent to the hotel to complete. She was far from the stereotypical trouble shooter and a pleasure to get to know during this story.
Brimming with wonderful views, sunny walks and unrequited love, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the atmosphere that is created within the story. As always it's a pleasure to visit a gorgeous location and read all of the wonderful descriptions that make you feel like you are right there alongside them. I can't wait to recommend this one as it's the perfect way to kick off the warmer weather
An Escape to Remember by T.A. Williams
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When Louise surprises her boyfriend by returning early from a work trip, safe to say she wasn’t expecting to see him in flagrante delicto with another woman. Heart-torn and vowing to stay away from men, when Louise’s next project involves restoring an ageing hotel in Italy, she leaps at the chance to get away.
Managed by a crew of sextagenarians, the Grand Hotel del Monferrato needs all the love and care Louise can give it. But it’s hard to stay focused on the job when her thoughts keep straying to Vito, the reclusive and mysterious neighbour.
Williams has written another simple but meaningful book. This is a heart-warming story with lovely characters. A nice quick read that ends just a little bit too fast. An uplifting read, perfect for a quick escape to Italy.
Rating: 4/5
Louise thought her relationship with Tom was stable and that it could lead to a commitment after being together for
five years. She did not expect to walk into the house and find him in bed with another. The offer of going to Italy
to supervise and upgrade a neglected property seemed the ideal out for her which she gladly took.
The story evolves from Louise going to Italy and finding the property challenging and interesting with a nice mix of
characters in the hotel and the inscrutable Professor Vito with an ex boyfriend Paolo also thrown into the mix. More
than Louise's budding romance, I found the setting and background very enjoyable and the work involved in getting a
neglected property to par fascinating reading. The addition of all the food of Turin included in the story was mouth
watering as well.
Altogether a very pleasant read.
These books always spark joy! It has been wonderful escaping to Italy this week with another of T.A.Williams books. The descriptions are always mesmerising and so detailed whether it be about scenery, clothes or even the food it all really helps transport you. Obviously there is romance throughout but I love that it’s not the only focus and that we get to see the main character Louise fixing up this hotel and interacting with multiple other characters. Just a really gorgeous read that I would highly recommend
An Escape to Remember is a really lovely, safe and gentle read. If you're looking for an escapist read that's uplifting this one is for you. The writing is as beautiful as the Italian setting. I will be recommending to friends. Five stars.
First Impressions
I really love this little escapades to Italy with the author, it's so well written that you feel that you really were there in the flesh, totally in my bucket list to go there some time.
As any romance we have couples troubles almost immediately but this one it felt so mature in a way and I felt so identified I mean in her shoes I would have done the same really.
Characters
Our protagonist has a few problems and totally loved the misunderstanding later on with the boss and all, they were so fun really I was like omg what's going on here jajajaja.
Loved that feeling of unity in the family and friends she had really it was so heartwarming seeing it, my family it's a little like that if troubles arise so it was so nice to see it there.
Final Thoughts
I feel in love as usual with this ones, the ending was so cute really I was like yes they did it and all troubles aside the romance did flourish nicely and amazingly.
Really a nice book when you need to just take it a little easy maybe slower totally recommended,
T.A. Williams has done it again! What a talent for creating stories that are heart-warming and uplifting. This one is set in Italy, where hotel "troubleshooter" Louise is sent to direct a refurbish on an old hotel. The people who work there are charming characters and the setting is described in detail so that one can imagine themselves in the location. Louise is struggling romantically, having caught her long-term boyfriend cheating on her. She also becomes reacquainted with a former lover from her university days, as well as the count/professor who sold the hotel to Louise's boss. So there's quite a bit of personal drama as well. I love these stories set in Italy, with believable characters and lush settings. Can't wait to read the next one!
Always enjoy this authors books. Always want to go travelling and learn Italian. Makes me feel summery Ben in February!
Overall, an enjoyable quick read set in Italy. I found the beginning a bit choppy, the middle fantastic, and the ending too quick! I want to know more about Louise and Vito’s growing relationship, and would absolutely read a sequel. I loved the characters, budding romances, and the setting.
Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for access to this ARC, and introducing me to my first book by this capable author T.A. Williams.
What a beautiful book. I downloaded this two days ago and just this second turned the last page.
I'm a sucker for romance but this one pulls on the heart strings in every direction. I kept waiting for something to drastically go wrong with the characters but it made a nice change for a book to go through the roller coaster of emotions at a slower pace and come to the ending that was perfect for Louise and Vitto. I couldn't recommend this book more!
T. A. Williams once again proves why he the the king of the Italian set romance!
Once more I have been transported to sun drenched Italy, in a gorgeous countryside setting, a rather energetic black lab, and at one point there was even the potential of four men for Louise's heart. Although from the outset one was far more obvious than the others, although whether they would ever get together is something I'm not willing to spoil!
And there is a clear love affair with Italian food present too, with the most fabulous chef at the hotel that Louise is trying to revamp and turn around. In fact I really loved all the staff this initially run down, outdated hotel came with, and having finished the book I'm sorry to leave my new Italian family behind.
I just loved everything about this book, and wish I could have been transported between the pages to experience life in the hills of Turin for myself! Another simply triumphant story from one of my favourite authors to escape with.
Thank you to Canelo and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I love T A Williams books they are always so wonderfully written. The settings of this book is amazing. I could feel like I was walking the streets and enjoying the sunshine along the amazing characters in this awesome book. I really enjoyed it.
A Perfect Distraction…
A wonderfully written romance set in the mountains of Turin. With a tumultuous past, Louise is seeking solace. Throwing herself into a hotel renovation seems a perfect distraction. What she hadn’t bargained on was the mysterious and enigmatic neighbour, Vito. A perfect escapist read, the author’s strength being creating the prefect backdrop.
🌄A woman with too many alternatives? in a gorgeous setting🍄🍷
I really enjoyed this travel romance, with a highly-competent, engaging, British female lead who sees love blooming all around her in Northern Italy while her own romantic life falters despite no dearth of possible suitors. Louise is an expert at her job bringing flagging hotels up to the luxury standard her employer demands; she is also kind, grounded and ready for a romantic commitment but the man she really wants seems impervious to her as he deals with some deep-seated issues that hold him in the past.
The writing is easy and, one of its strengths, for me, was the way the author composed a lovely picture of the Italian countryside and its pleasures, including lots of food, glorious regional food specialties. T. A. Williams really knows how to bring an Italian setting to life. Altogether a sweet story.
Thanks to Canelo and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
A beautiful easy read that would be good to take on holiday. Although the ending was predictable I really enjoyed the story, the setting and the descriptions of food. Louise is a strong main character well liked by the supporting characters who also have interesting stories of their own. Vito turns from a lost unhappy character back to the happy man he once was, aided by his beautiful Labrador Leo, whose antics made me smile.
What a fabulous job Louise has trouble shooting tired hotels and bringing them back to life..
