My Dead Husband was a good read by N.J. Moss. Ellie's husband was a vicious abuser who she managed to escape from. She learned from her mother in law that he took his own life. Unfortunately she now is experiencing terror of frightening phone calls, hostile strangers on the street, and sabotage of her writing career. She wonders if she's having another breakdown when she spotted a reflection of Kayden's face. Ellie heads to Scotland to find out what is real and an illusion with help of a new man in her life. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

I received an eARC of My Dead Husband by NJ Moss from Dreamscape Media and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
I gave this book 3 stars. This book has a decent blend of twists and suspense. It's dark and disturbing- check trigger warnings. This book is not for the faint of heart.

First things first, anyone considering reading this book should go into it understanding that it is very graphic, covering topics of rape and incest.
I am a bit conflicted on this one. On one hand, it was a page-turner that I couldn't put down and definitely took turns I would not expect in comparison to some of the standard thriller tropes. On the other hand, it seemed to become almost fantastical at points - almost giving a feeling of shock upon shock just to be shocking. It gave it an almost unbelievable feeling, but as a true crime reader, I guess there are some really sick and depraved people out there. I missed some of the psychological insight that many other really good thrillers hook me with. I felt like the characters fell flat even when doing outlandish things. I also feel like there were some definite whiffs of fatphobia and a warped presentation of mental health.
I enjoyed it while reading it, but now that I am done, I am not sure if I would recommend it to others. Like I said .... conflicted.

Well, this was a wild ride type of book!
Ellie left her husband after she finally had enough of the abuse and when the day finally comes and she learns that he is dead. She's kinda ecstatic about it. While it seems a new leaf is turning over, she starts receiving threatening calls, a window is broken at her home, and of course, she is receiving bad reviews on her book. While for a good part of this it seems like she is dancing on the verge of a breakdown she is also trying to figure out it is actually happening or if it is all in her head. However, she is in a new relationship. That seems to be one of the things actually going for her.
There are a lot of triggers for this book. But, it was enjoyable but towards the end, I started wondering if it was like over the top and going a little too far! I received the audiobook from Dreamscape Media and the narrator did an amazing job! I really enjoyed it!

Thank you Dreamscape Media, NJ Moss, and Netgalley for this audio in exchange for an honest review. This is a fast paced book as I started this on Monday and finished it today (Wednesday). Grabs your interest right away. The narration was excellent. Though I thought it was good, the ending felt a bit rushed. I must include a trigger warning for those who find domestic abuse/incest/rape to be traumatizing. All in all a good book. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 solid stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Ellie recently escaped a bitter wildly abusive marriage to Kayden. When he former mother-in-law calls to tells her that he has died Ellie feels nothing but relief... until she sees his face in her window. The new life that she has created for herself begins to be terrorized as strangers accost her on the street, a media attack on her career and a brick through her window seem likely the work of her husband - but he's dead. As Ellie and her new boyfriend search for who is sabotaging her, long buried secrets from Kayden's past begin to emerge and are liked directly to her mother.
First a warning to some readers: there are some weighty themes in this novel from mental illness, violent domestic and sexual abuse. While these topics are dark that was not the main reason I disliked the book. I struggled with the characters and the over-the-top dramatics of the situations. All of the twists felt very convenient and came off as unrealistic; for example her mother and Kayden's relationship. I could not overcome her mother keeping their connection a secret. I think the mental illness was used as a ploy to go down this elicit path. Ella Lynch was the narrator for the audio book and I think that she did a good job considering the material.

My Dead Husband by NJ Moss
One monster is dead, but has another rise from the dead ?
This psychological thriller is twisted and dark, focusing on abuse not just psychological but sexual as well.
Ellen left her abusive husband a few years back until one day she finds out from her ex mother in law that he has committed suicide. She has been ready to move on with her life for a while so finally this is what she needed. That’s when her nightmare starts again. ☠️
Ellen starts getting dreadful reviews online for her new book on Goodreads, she has been receiving threatening calls, she get suspended from work and strangers are scaring her on the street. One night, she even sees Kayden’s reflection on her window at home. Could her husband really be dead, or has he come back to haunt her forever…. 🪟
The ending had me shocked and it was so disturbing. I truly enjoyed the book but I had a hard time getting through it because of how visual it was, the language really affected me personally.
Do you enjoy psychological thrillers or RomComs ? I enjoy both equally.
Thank you @netgalley and Dreamscapemediagroup for the ARC.

First of all, this is not your typical thriller. So, think twice before reading it.
After a nightmare of a marriage, Ellie manages to gather her strength and leave her abusive husband. But when her life finally got back on track, a shocking turn of events is threatening to ruin her life as she knows it.
I do not even know how to start this review. The writing was great. Incredibly dark, shocking, and disturbing twists at the end of the novel were not foreseen by me. I did finish the book... I wish I had never started it. The plot of the book was well built, but the characters' link with domestic violence, sex abuse, child rape (just to name a few) was dark and twisted and not at all my cup of tea. I do give an author a credit for going forward with a shocking and gripping idea of the book. Thank NetGalley for a free copy of the novel.

Ellie managed to get away from her abusive husband, She found out from her mother-in-law that he had taken his own life. Now Ellie is living nightmares. Is she seeing her husband face or is it an illusion? If you like women's crime fiction and serial killers this is the book for you. Thanks to bloodhound books, netgalley, and the author in exchange for review.

Throughout this book, I just kept thinking about how many awful things the main character, Ellie, has to deal with in her life. That lady cannot catch a break. Everyone in her life is monstrous and everything that happens to her is unimaginable. I will admit that some of the language and some of the plot points were a bit much for me, and I generally do not get too caught up in any type of trigger warnings, so I was surprised at this.
I really thought there was going to be another huge twist with who Ellie’s father was, but it never did come. That would’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back. I feel like this was the one piece of the story we didn’t get - unless I missed it somewhere along the way 🤔
I would recommend this book, but it is definitely a reader-beware type of book. I think there might be any type of trigger warning imaginable in this one: domestic violence, abuse, rape, pedophilia, vulgar language, incest, mental illness, trauma…🤯
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review!

This one didn't work for me at all. While I enjoyed the books narrator, there were a lot of things I didn't like. I didn't like how flat and unrelatable the characters were. I found a lot of the dark subject matter to have gone too far and while I don't normally mind vulgar language it was used way to much in this book. This book also needs a ton of trigger warnings, which would be fine if all of the topics didn't feel over exaggerated. This book was just done well enough to justify the topics or the language.

I received a free copy of the audiobook from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, I feel like I need to bleach my brain after reading this.
I can handle gore, I can handle all sorts of fetishes, but this. This. How many new shelves should I add to my Goodreads account to handle all the "ugh" and "ick" I feel with this story lingering in my memory?
There was just too much sickness woven in here. I could never fully engage with the story or the main character, because the outrageousness of all the mind games, perverted sex, and ugly (inside and out) players in this sick setup kept pulling me out and up for air.
I stopped many times and thought "I don't have to finish this". For some reason, I kept going, but I never enjoyed it. Perhaps it was well written, but who would notice while they're reading about some unclean and morbidly obese woman masturbating and making her young son help her have an orgasm? If you just went "eww, gross, that's disgusting", there you go -- that's the whole freaking book in a nutshell.
I was not the target audience for this darker-than-dark, sicker-than-sick book.

My Dead Husband by NJ Mobs……….audio book
I didn’t know it was possible too get so much disturbed pathology in one book…let alone have it happen to one person. The book traveled along the usual path of a mystery till about 70% through and then it unraveled into sick and tormented behavior. As the reader I wasn’t offended by the scenes (well that’s not exactly true) but at every turn the characters became dysfunctional to a higher level.
It was a book filled with shock and disbelief factors that will keep you reading that last 30%.

As unfortunate as it sounded, Ellie felt a huge sense of relief when she heard the news from her mother in law that her ex-husband had taken his own life…and blamed Ellie in the suicide note.
If Ellie’s abusive ex-husband is dead, than why does she feel more on edge than ever…she sees Kayden’s face everywhere, someone breaks her window, attacks her in the park, and more. Is her wicked mother in law the one to blame for all of these things now that Kayden is dead?
Ellie tries to move past all of this and falls fast for a new guy at work. Freddie is kind, and compassionate and so much more than Kayden ever was. But when Ellie and Freddie try to check the validity of all the details behind Kayden’s death they uncover a whole world of lies, deceit, sickness, and vile behavior from so many people.
There were several times while listening to this book when I had to stop myself and say, wait, WHAT?! 🤯

I couldn’t handle the narrator of this book. Her accent and her nasal voice distracted me from the story. I gave it plenty of time, but actually did not finish. I would try this book again in a different format.

Well, sometimes you come across an ARC and it just isn't your cup of tea. That was the case for me and NJ Moss's My Dead Husband. While I'd like to thank #netgalley and #dreamscapeaudio for the advanced audio copy, this was definitely a book I was a little disappointed in.
Right off the bat, I have to list the trigger warnings: Domestic Violence, abuse, rape, pedophilia, mental illness, incest, trauma and vulgar language.
While i like a good mystery, and even a good psychological thriller, I found this one a bit to vulgar and disturbing. Parts of it made me feel icky just listening and as the story went on the worse it got. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it kept me intrigued enough to keep reading, but this definitely is one I could go without ever reading again.

There’s not enough trigger warnings out there for this one. I need a shower after listening to this audiobook. It was so well written but it’s definitely a mind eff of a book.
Terrific narrator I hope to hear more of her in the future.

This one is not for the faint of heart. It was definitely a lot darker than I was expected, but I still really enjoyed the story. I'll also say that there are trigger warnings for sexual assault, gaslighting, verbal abuse, etc. There are probably more that I'm forgetting as well.
Ellie finally got out of an abusive marriage before the story begins. She's living her life, working and getting ready for her first book to come out. Then she gets unexpected news that her ex husband has died and named her in the suicide note. She's ecstatic as he abused her for many years and she can't bring herself to feel sorry.
But then strange things start to happen. Terrible reviews of her day job and her book, seeing things that aren't there, and someone throwing a brick into her house. All the while, we find out more about her and her mother, and this mysterious year of Ellie's teenage years that she simply blacked out of her memory.
I will say that I wasn't expecting the twists and turns that happened in the book. If the triggers are something you can handle, then I would definitely recommend this psychological/domestic thriller.
I received an ALC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

DNF. The only thing I appreciated about this book was that it provided content warnings in the synopsis. More authors should put content warnings in their books. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

I received a copy of the audiobook for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.
NJ Moss worked as a fiction ghostwriter for ten years before he turned his skills into his work. His latest novel is My Dead Husband: a twisted tale about family, revenge and the past catching up to the present. When he is not working on his next thriller, you can normally find him walking his dogs (Loki and Gizmo, a Jack Russell terrier and a Chihuahua), rollerblading up and down the promenade of Weston-super-Mare, or spending time with his lovely wife.
“I was free.”
Ellie was finally living her life without the constant terror her estranged husband, Kayden, looming over her. Until everything starts going wrong, and Ellie can’t figure out who wants to destroy her.
Holy. Buckets. I have never read NJ Moss before, and not only do I have whiplash, my jaw is still on the floor, and I said a string of very naughty four letters words as this book ended.
The plot, pacing, characters, twists, and intensity are well done. I was captivated by the madness that kept happening.
Ellie is so soft and sweet, a survivor trying to move on with her life. She finds her voice and strength and refuses to be someone’s prey again.
I did figure out one of the plot twists before it was revealed, and when it was confirmed, I screamed. There were some very hard to hear portions of this novel, trigger warnings for domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual assault.
I enjoyed how Moss wrote about madness as a theme while intertwining past and present. It was a well-choreographed dance that will make your head spin.
Overall, this was a fantastic novel. I was entertained, disgusted, appalled, sad, angry, and shocked. When the twists started coming fast and furious, nothing slowed the descent into the chaos.
