This was a good read, but it took a really long time to develop. I liked the premise and the characters but felt the story itself didn't get going until halfway through. Once it got rolling it didn't stop, which was nice. If you are looking for something different to read, I think this would be a good choice.

My Dead Husband by N.J. Moss is a truly shocking, sometimes cringe worthy, psychology thriller.
Ellie is thrilled to get the call from her obnoxious mother in law that her estranged abusive husband has killed himself. No more fear, no more bruises, no more pain. But then weird things start to happen like bad customer reviews, nasty calls and a glimpse of her dead husband looking right at her.
As this jaw dropping WTF story unfolds narrator Ella Lynch let's us hear the crazy in the voices of the unsettling culprits to the madness in Ella's life. There are many triggers but naming them would give away the twists. So if you are not faint of heart and love being mind blown give it a try. You Are Warned!

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for an early audiobook copy of My Dead Husband.
This is a really challenging book for me to rate. If I'm being honest, I'm struggling with the rating because the writing is really well-done and the author made this a really twisty read that is hard to put down. I appreciate an author who pushes the limits of what we normally see in a thriller book. That being said, there are major triggers and themes of sexual assault, domestic violence and abuse, incest, pedophilia, suicide, and likely more that aren't at the top of my head. At times these themes seemed a bit over-done, to the point that I felt sick reading it.
I did finish the book though and again, it's very well written and twisty. The subject matter may be difficult for someone to read and get through, though. The narrator is easy to listen to and did a great job conveying emotions.

It makes sense that this was written by a man. And it's always suspicious when a man uses initials as his pen name. This book went too far. It was gross and unnecessarily descriptive and vulgar. Not enjoyable at all. It takes unlikable characters to a whole new level. Things also didn't make sense PAISLEY is the orchestrator with her drug garden? Nope. Stupid and extremely unbelievable. It was just fucked up. Trigger warnings include: marital rape, domestic violence, child abuse/molestation/rape, sexual assault, gaslighting, incest, terrible mental health representation, drugs. If any of these bother you, steer far away from this book.

This was not what I was expecting at all. A lot of crude behavior and language. I almost DNF but decided to continue. The main character, Ellie, is very unreliable as her mother has schizophrenia and she fears she may have it too. She receives a call that her abusive separated husband is dead, and that she is not welcome at the funeral. Soon Ellie starts seeing her dead ex-husband in her window, on the street and other places. Is she going crazy or is he actually there? Did he really die? Told from Ellie’s point of view as well as pages from her mother, Charlotte’s diary this was a twisted tale of deranged people. There were so many twists and turns and each one turned darker and darker. I did not enjoy this as it seemed so far-fetched and too vulgar for my taste.

Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: My Dead Husband
Author: NJ Moss
Genre: Horror | Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES on March 8, 2022!!!
Sipping thoughts: Deranged. Insane. Madness. These are just a few adjectives that ran through my head as I read this book. And in all honesty, I loved every crazy moment of it. I have never read a book like this and it is hard to even explain it without giving away while it was so insane. If you are able to stomach dark content, buckle up for this ride with Ellie as she is trying to navigate her life after her husband has committed suicide. The ride gets really bumpy when she thinks she has seen her husband, Kayden, and that he is out to ruin her life.

This was a very conflicting read. I am a HUGE fan of twisted psychological thrillers. This was plot twist on plot twist on plot twist. Plot twists are great, love them please give them all to me, however they start to get almost confusing and overdone and insensitive ? I find that I just felt bad. That sometimes things are too far?
The beginning was interesting I was okay this is intriguing. The characters and how this started to unfold I had a few moments that I felt more sad at moments than focused on what would happen next? I was saying how can this happen verse who what why? There was things unfolding that I wanted to see play out while also thinking just stop. When the big unfold happens at the end I had wished I didn't read it. I felt truly saddened .
It will leave you speechless which it should. However for me it for the context I feel things were not handled well.
The writing is excellent which is why I continued with the book. I listened to audio and the narrator really did an amazing job of representing the emotions of the storyline. I I received this Arc-Audio from NetGAlley for my honest review.

Whoa. This book was just whoa. The audio version really puts emphasis on what the author is trying to convey and it was… whoa. Great book with a lot of content warnings, so just be forewarned about that,
I received an ARC from NetGalley of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

I had a really hard time with this one. I have a mouth like a sailor, and this one still made me cringe multiple times because it went a little too far. Also, as the storyline starting playing out, I found it so unbelievably disturbing that I didn’t enjoy it. I gave this two stars instead of one because it kept me interested until towards the end when everything started to be revealed.

3.5 stars
This book was…different. Not in a bad or good way, just different. I do commend the author for putting the warnings in the front of the book, because they are definitely needed.
The story was actually woven together quite well, but there were a few cringeworthy moments that I had to push through to get through it.
This book is not meant for the meek!

My Dead Husband
NJ Moss
Ellie left her abusive husband Kayden over a year ago. His mother Paisley contacts Ellie to let her know Kayden has committed suicide and she lays all the blame at Ellie’s feet. Ellie believes she can finally move one with her life. But the nightmare was just beginning. She isn’t sure if she is having a nervous breakdown and imagining the threatening phone calls, broken windows, seeing Kayden’s face looking at her through the window and on the street. She isn’t sure if the attacks are real or if she is losing her mind. Could someone be out to destroy her? Ellie’s childhood had been difficult; her mother was schizophrenia, her father died, and her mother’s condition grew worse. Ellie lost a year of her life due to a coma. When she woke up her boyfriend Theo was gone.
Freddie, her new boyfriend is encouraging and supportive. The two go to Scotland seeking the truth.
This book is a dark thriller. There are twists, turns, unnerving situations and more than a little mental illness. Author NJ Moss has created a frightening thriller. The characters are well fleshed out, not just the main characters but also the secondary ones. The secondary characters compliment the main character and add depth to the plot.
This book is over the top. Each thing that happened to Ellie was worse than the last. The events in this book are extremely dark and violent: rape, domestic abuse, sex abuse, pedophilia, torture, child abuse, incest, rape and so much violence. The language was extremely vulgar. The author is very descriptive in relating the abuse in this tale. I like thrillers but this book goes beyond thriller.
If a writer is judged by the feelings he/she creates in the reader then this author is brilliant.

Out of all of the books I have read, I have NEVER not been able to rate a book.
Well, here’s the first! 😳
The thing about it, is that the author is talented. Say you were a Lit Professor and you had to grade this story, you’d have to give a high grade.
But it is the most depraved, cringey, gross, foul, disturbing story ever.
That’s really all I can say. I am at a loss 🤷♀️

TRIGGER WARNINGS
Ellie is no stranger to hard times. When she was younger her father died and she was left with a mother who had schizophrenia. Her mother would go in and out of episodes that left Ellie always questioning her mother. Ellie has married a man named Kayden who seemed to be everything she needs. Until the abuse starts. Ellie finally has the courage to leave him and Kayden kills himself. It isn't until Ellie starts having a good run of luck that she starts seeing Kayden everywhere, her book has negative reviews, and someone is complaining on her at work. Ellie is determined to find out who is behind all this.
For me this book was just okay. I found the lack of trigger warnings jarring. The incest, rape, pedophilia, and abuse was way overdone. I find it hard to connect and like a book when they use these themes but this book leaned heavily on these themes. I found it very hard to continue listening to. The narrator did a great job with the material she was given to voice. I liked her accents and diction. That is about all the positives I can give this audiobook though.

Could not get into this story one bit. It was very confusing., felt it was a bit all over the place. Only made it halfway through the book. Was not thrilled with the narrator’s accent or voice.

I honestly don't know how to rate this one. I did finish it, it held my interest and the narrator was amazing. I am giving a bonus star for Ella Lynch, her narration was perfection.
BUT...there was so much I disliked about the book, mainly the way it made me feel.
Trigger Warnings:
Spousal Abuse
Incest
Pedophilia
Stalking/harassment
This is a dark, depraved psychological thriller. I feel like I chose one book to read and got another one on accident.
Ellie leaves her abusive husband who then commits suicide. She thinks she can move on with her life, but someone or something won't let her. Someone is harrasing her, making her think she is losing her mind. Her mother is hiding secrets that are slowly let out via her journal. Her mother in law is doing her best to make life harder for Ellie.
With the help of Freddie, her coworker whom she beings a relationship with, they set out to find who is targeting Ellie.
The only likeable characters are Ellie, Freddie and her friend Georgia.
Everyone else is literally the worst. If you can think of a horrible thing that someone can do to someone else, these people are doing it.
I had to stop listening multiple times because of the sickness I felt. My jaw was dropped for about 80% of this book.
No one escaped this book without being completely emotionally devastated or dead. There is no happy ending. There is no peace to be found. Just devastation.
This book definitely isn't for me. I am sure that if you enjoy dark thrillers you will find something to like in it.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this Audio ARC.

First and foremost this book should come with all the trigger warnings… abortion, marital abuse, rape, murder, language, extreme violence, incest, pedophilia, severe mental health concerns, drugging, violent/disturbing revenge plots, etc.
However, with all that said if you are looking for a dark, twisty, messed up horror/thriller/mystery type book you may just like this one. I really loved having two unreliable narrators providing the storyline as it added to the mystery and wondering what was ready and what wasn’t. I really love dark and twisty when I’m in the right mood and this one absolutely delivered all the dark and twisty to a cringe level at times. Of note- I did get a little queasy at one point from a graphic description in the last 30% of this book so if you aren’t good with gore, I would skip this one.
I also really enjoyed the psychological mess that this puts you in as you are trying to determine for yourself what is going on.
I also really enjoyed the voice work of the narrator for this audiobook, I loved listening to her accent and loved it when she used a thicker accent when voicing for one of the male characters.
This book was a confusing, effed up, wild ride but I would highly recommend if you are ready for that and aware of the trigger earnings. Proceed at your own risk! ⚠️
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this audiobook! I am so thankful to obtain a copy to read in advance of its release!

While I love thrillers, My Dead Husband wasn't my favorite. I found the main character to be conflicting and the story to be a little over the top disturbing. FTR, that's saying quite a bit, as I'm pretty tough :)
I do think the writing style is well-done, and that the narrator of the audiobook did a fantastic job. I do think that for many readers, this story will be an engrossing read, it just wasn't a home run for me.

This book was not the thriller I was expecting. It was like the soap opera version of a thriller where each new twist was beyond over the top. It wasn’t that they were surprising - they weren’t to me. I didn’t mind that it was dark (and it was super dark, trigger warnings for domestic abuse, sex abuse, child abuse, incest, rape, and violence). I also don’t mind the vulgar language but it did get pretty vulgar at times. I didn’t even mind going to the taboo places but it was the exaggerated and unrealistic way it went about it that was hard for me. I also felt like the story dragged in places. There also wasn’t really anyone to root for in this story. To say the characters were all unlivable would be an understatement. I listened to the audiobook and I did think the narrator did a good job trying to bring the characters to life despite them all being written pretty shallowly in my opinion. I struggled with the rating but in the end I landed on 2 stars because I don’t think I can really recommend this one and I won’t be picking up another by this author.
Ellie has finally escaped her abuse husband Kayden when she hears from Kayden’s mother Paisley that Kayden has killed himself and left a note saying it was Ellie’s fault. She’s moving on with her life and she has a book publishing soon and has met someone new at work. But when things start happening - she gets review bombed on goodreads and at her day job taking complaints, she gets horrible perverts calling at work, attacked by a homeless man, and has a brick thrown in her window and she starts to believe she hasn’t really escaped Kayden. She also thinks she sees him through the glass of her apartment window and wonders if her mother’s mental illness has finally begun to show in her as well.

I'm disappointed in how this book went ..it started our very interesting to me as she had a mental health problem and was second guessing her sanity which is always a fun way to start off a story. However this book turned on me into a depraved dark turn that was frankly disgusting and wasn't necessary. The pedophilia and violence in the book didn't add to the story it degraded it.
The premise was good of a confused Lost young woman looking for friends..Finding love was good...it just went too far into depravity.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

What. Was. This?
This could have been an enjoyable read, it was action packed and mysterious. But then the author had to throw in pedophilia and incest. And lots of it.
I’m surprised I made it through the whole book.
