An abusive husband is finally dead. Now Ellie can be free. Free to love and live and succeed. She's had difficult times in life and a fractured relationship with her mother due to mental illness. Now is finally her time to thrive, to work on her relationships and be happy. However, her mother is hiding something that can turn Ellie's world upside down.

This was a wild, weird, and dark ride. I felt like I was going to be able to guess the ending but, I was super wrong. Lots of twists and turns and the pace was just right. I really enjoyed this book.

A woman finds out her husband is dead and she is happy? Ellie comes to find that her husband is now dead after years of him being controlling and abusive. She has now started to receive calls and so many different threats to her up and coming writing career. Ellie’s mom seems to not be taking sides however, Kayden’s mother (Ellie’s mother in law) seems to be behind the sabatoge. This was a great book with many twists and an unexpected turn in the end.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book for my honest feedback.

‼‼DIS-TUR-BING‼‼
DARK!! CREEPY!! TWISTED!! GROSS!! INSANE!! HORRIFIC!!

⚠Beware⚠
This book is not for the faint hearted.
There are many triggers warnings, such as ~ domestic violence, abuse, rape, pedophilia, vulgar language, incest, mental illness, trauma.

3.25 ⭐
Ellie has learned her abusive husband has committed suicide and left a note stating she is to blame.
Ellie's mom has schizophrenia and a secret about Ellie's husband, Kayden.
The story goes back and forth between the perspective of Ellie and what her mom wrote in a journal about her past.
The narrator was really good in expressing emotions when necessary, however I would have preferred a second narrator for the journal entries. I 2x'ed it, so that made for a quick listen at around 4 hours.

I did figure out some of the twists ahead of time, so that puts a damper on my rating. I do feel like the story wrapped up well though.

*Thanks to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media and N.J. Moss for the advance audiobook. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

Reviewing
My Dead Husband
By NJ Moss

An interesting read with a few twists and turns that readers may find her to navigate. Readers will be intrigued and excited to find out what’s coming next however this book has a plethora of trigger warnings that should be noted including domestic violence, abortion, trauma, mental illness, rape, incest, paedophilia, and family abuse. Along with these trigger warnings the story is driven by serious mental illness which makes it difficult to follow and frustrating at time. Entertaining for sure but left a bit to be desired in the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 Stars with an R rating for mature subject matter, language, and graphic sexual content

This review my contain spoilers.

First, I would like to say that narrator did a great job. I would listen to other books narrated by her.

This book was so fucked up. Saying it is twisted does not describe the level of this book. I can’t believe I finished it. I really think it was just a waste of my time. It is a bunch of fucked up people that are all needing to be in a psychiatric ward or maybe even a prison. As soon as she saw her past, I knew what the mother-in-law was trying to say. This was not groundbreaking but instead this was very different from anything I’ve read, in very grotesque way. I like twisted but this is a whole different level and just becomes sick. I think that the author should probably get some psychiatric help. Now if this was a story based on a real life situation I would be more interested and out to think it was a good book but this is fiction which makes me think “What the fuck are you into”.

I am strongly convinced that the people in the story are horrible and I pray that they do not depict people in real life that this man knows. It is very revolved around rape, revenge and calculated people. There is no words to describe this book and how much disgust I felt reading it. The only reason I even finished it was because it was a NetGalley review book and I don’t want to give a review if I didn’t read it till the end.

I think the only two people in this book that are not completely horrible, sick, depraved characters would be Ellie and Fred. Although both of them hit some kind of mental breakdown situation at some point, I don’t think they are as mental as others might assume. That’s my unprofessional opinion. Although, we could all hit a psychotic break like that or a mental breakdown or whatever you wanna call it under high stress situations like that. It’s kind of like the flight or fight mode and some people’s brain will literally shut down, block, or snap as some people say. And that’s kind of what this sounds like with these two characters.

Every other character in his book should probably be locked up in a psychiatric hospital padded room with straight jackets. The mother can’t distinguish fantasy from reality which makes her a danger to others if not herself. The husband is a danger to others and most people would think he needs prison but he has a lot of mental issues because of his freak of a mother. The mother-in-law is the worst. I’m not sure why she is doing the creepy things she does so I’m not sure but she seems like she is a psychopath and dangerous to everyone around her. However, I am not an expert on any of this, that is just my opinion.

I think this book would be great for anyone in the mental healthcare capacity who work with people who have been sexually/physically abused, psychotic breakdowns, psychopaths, rape trauma, pedophilia, incest. There are probably some benefits reading this book at that point but for the average person I think this is probably a creep-feast and will probably make you throw up.

I really hope that no one ever recommends a book like this to me. I don’t recall reading a discription that was so grotesque but maybe I didn’t notice it. I don’t know why I thought this book sounded like it would be good.

I just looked at my NetGalleyShelf description and it says that it does say it has domestic violence, abuse, rape, pedophilia, vulgar language, incest, mental issues and trauma. I’m wondering if it said that when I first read the review and requested the book because I don’t recall that. I wouldn’t have read it! Although maybe I just overlooked it or maybe they put it in since getting reviews about how disgusting it is. I don’t know.

Sounds like an interesting thriller right?! Well, I wish they would put the disclaimer at the top instead of the bottom and before negative reviews! I am saying that but I don’t usually care for disclaimers but when you have something this disturbing then maybe you should. I am 100% certain that the disclaimer is new, especially after seeing others comments.

I wish I would have never read this book!

WOW! the words that first come to mind when thinking of starting this review. I read the synopsis of this book and was interested but did not expect what I would soon read. Let's get some things out of the way: TRIGGERS. Where to start, there are so many. Starting first from the obvious one that we are given with the synopsis: marital abuse/domestic violence. other triggers, sexual assault, rape, incest, abuse, torture, and pedophilia. all the trigger warnings. just wow. This book is full of twists and turns and riddled with language that some may find offensive. This book is full of twists and turns that were so disturbing and may not be suitable for some. The first half of the book I enjoyed, until I didn't, the last portion of the book, while suspenseful, it was disturbing. The topics touched on in this book are topics that the world doesn't like to acknowledge, but we know as a society thing like this happen, no matter how horrid it may be. It was not at all predictable to see what occurred in the last few chapters. while the subject matter of this book could be viewed as touchy, I would not recommend this book for everyone, and I strongly suggest reading reviews for triggers as this could be a horrible book in the wrong hands, but if you don't mind the mentioned subjects then this could be an okay book for you. It was well written, but some subject matter was just too much for me, but could be a 5-star read for someone else.

My Dead Husband touches on a lot of sensitive subjects. NJ Moss delivers a twisted story that makes up the worst nightmares of many people.
Ellie has just escaped from years of abuse at the hands of her husband, Kayden. She learns that he has killed himself, but instead of feeling relief, she's terrorized by perverted phone calls, bad reviews about her job performance and book, and visions of her ex-husband. Can a new man in her life help her learn the reason she is being targeted and help her feel safe, or is the mystery much deeper?
I was drawn in by Ellie's story, and I kept feeling more and more sorry for her. By the end of the book, I realized there were more victims than tormentors, and it made me angry at the people who abuse others. The book made me feel more upset than any book I have read in the past couple of years. The writing is good, and it's detailed well, but please read the content warning carefully before you dive into this one.
The narrator was fantastic! She read each character's words with the inflection and dialect that truly reflected their essence.
I recommend this book only to mature readers who enjoy dark books.

This was probably one of the worst books I’ve read in this short of a year.

I’ve read twisted book and I know stuff like this happens but I did not care to fill my brain with this rubbish.

In choosing this book, the book summary was very enticing. The narrator of the book was phenomenal. This book is not for the casual, weak reader. It is very descriptive and contains a great deal of swearing. I admit, I missed the "Please be advised..." notation. I would not have chosen this book had I seen it due to the fact that I primarily read Middle Grade and Young Adult books (I'm a school librarian). However, I did complete the entire book and enjoyed the storyline. While the story contained descriptive sexual content, I believe it was almost necessary to build the characters and for the reader to understand the magnitude of the impact it had on those involved. What could be toned down would be the language. Using less swearing would not have impacted the reader's understanding of the strong emotions of the characters. Overall, I was surprised by the book and found it quite good.

Engrossing from start to finish. The twists and turns will leave you second guessing what you thought you knew. Fantastic Listen. Thank to the author, publisher and NetGalley

This book is disturbing and not in a good way. It’s well written but it’s just not right. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading because the description of the book certainly didn’t let you know what you were in for. I’ll give you a brief description then let you know what it was really like.
Ellie had a very abusive husband named Kayden. She’s' gotten away from him now and has recently found out from his mother that he committed sucicide. She’s incredibly happy that she will no longer have to worry.
However, soon Ellie begins getting strange phone calls, terrifying street encounters with strangers, and some bad reviews being made about her latest book online. Now, she thinks she sees Kayden and is wondering if she is having a breakdown as she once did.
With some help from a new man/boyfriend, she has decided to head to Scotland and find out once and for all what is real and what isn’t. She just wants to see his grave to prove to herself he’s really gone.
Okay, that’s pretty much what you get when you are about to start the book. Sounds good doesn’t it? Well, this book lies heavily on sexual abuse, physical abuse, and something so very disturbing I don’t want to even mention it but lets just say it’s really all relative.
This book started out pretty good, had good moments, is well written in the sense that the author knows how to write a story but this book was absolutely icky. Should you read it? Well, I have decided not to tell you either way what to do here. Just go in wearily as there are a few triggers that may not be good for people who are sensitive to the things I mentioned above.

This was one of the oddest books I have ever read. First and foremost, trigger warnings…. All of them.

This was a two-star for me, which is typically the lowest rating I give when I don’t DNF. There were so many twists that I really felt like I had to stick the book out to see where this story was going. I also typically don’t get offended easily by bad language, but wow there was a lot of that in this book and it was just very distasteful.

This book was centered around mental and physical abuse, I will give the writer credit for very descriptive writing, but it was just horribly uncomfortable to read. There was too much going on for me, which is usually a draw for me when it comes to thrillers; but I couldn’t stomach this one.

Anyway, I didn’t enjoy it and I do not recommend it, but tell me something positive. What is a thriller you love to recommend?

I quite enjoyed the first half of this book. Early on we were informed that we would be dealing with an unreliable narrarator, in part, which some people say is over done these days, but I happen to like. Unfortunately the narrarator was not unreliable enough or fantasist enough to make the second half of the book palatable. The subject matter made me sick to my stomach, and as a person who loves thrillers, horror movies, and gore, that is something that rarely happens. I believe this book could be triggering for some readers. Had I not gone into this blind, and had I not thought that it was all a product of an unreliable narrarator, I would not have finished this book. It was a lot to take in and one that I will probably not forget.

Thank you to NetGalley, NJ Moss and the publisher for allowing me an ARC audio of My Dead Husband in return for my honest review.

I don't even know what I read. This book was so messed up on so many different levels and absolutely disturbing. Revenge is on thing, but the lengths one will go for payback is something you never know. the story contains, abuse, rape, torture and pedophilia. This was a book I had to force myself to finish and one I would not recommend.

This book was very suspenseful and riveting. The author did an excellent job making the plot unexpected. I really liked the narrators on the audiobook version as well. Very tolerable. However, I would not recommend this book to just anyone without the caveat that there are some triggering topics in the subject matter and the characters go through some really tough and almost unbelievable things. But if you don't mind reading about subjects such as rape, child rape, mother/son sexual relationships, it is an easy and quick read!

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review this title.
Wow! This is a sick and twisted story. Good writing and I liked the narrator. I'd like to know how the author came up with the idea for this.

am usually against putting trigger warnings or advisory on books because frankly I have never seen the need. But this book was possibly one of the most horrid pieces of "literature" I have ever read. It was terrible. Every gross, violent thing you can imagine happens. My biggest fear is that some teenager, past victim of child abuse, spousal abuse picks up this book and has to read the filth that is on the pages of this book. It was just gross. Mothers raping their sons?
What?
It makes a mockery of mental illness as well.
This author I think honestly set out to write the worst book that has ever been written, well congratulations NJ Moss you did it.
I will NEVER read another book by this author. I am not even going to bother summarizing the plot it is not worth my time or yours.

Thank you Net Galley for this advanced Copy of this audiobook. Clearly I was not paid or received anything for this honest review.

OMG!!!! I mean WOW... twist after twist after twist. Yes this book had a lot of topics the world does not like to speak about and yet we know it happens. Definitely a hard book (not for the weak), but it keeps you intrigued and continue reading non stop. I will definitely recommend to some of my friends. Thank you Netgalley for this book for an honest review.

Phew! I feel like I need some therapy after this one. There was a whole lot happening in this book. Honestly, this book should come with a slew of trigger warnings, included but not limited to domestic abuse, sexual abuse and mental illness. This is one dark, twisted psychological thriller. And whereas I normally love this genre, this book made me feel very uncomfortable to the point of cringing. Whereas the narrator did a fantastic job, it felt like the author tried too hard to throw entirely too much ugliness into this book.
A huge thanks to Dreamscape Media, N.J. Moss, and Netgalley for the alc in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book, about a woman who learns her abusive estranged husband I has committed suicide, with a note blaming her, started off good. But about half way through, it started to lose my interest because of too many glimpses of side stories, and by the end I actively disliked it.

It seemed to try too hard. There were too many twists and the ending was just creepy.
