Ellie learns her abusive husband is dead. Her mother-in-law informed her that he had taken his own life, Ellie will never have to worry about him again.
She should feel relieved, but she soon starts experiencing frightening phone calls, hostile strangers on the street and sabotage to her writing career.
She thinks she see's Kayden's face. Is she having a breakdown?
She's determined to get to the bottom of what is going on, along with the new man in her life...but as she digs for the truth, the darker the truth becomes....
This was just an okay book, don't get me wrong my attention was held the entire time, which is why I do like the book. But the incest part, along though a twist, did turn me off majorly.
Thank you NJ Moss, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audio to listen to this book in return for my honest review!

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.
I loved, loved, loved the narrator of this book! The way she transitions from an English to Scottish accent was performed flawlessly and it was really a joy to listen to! As far as the story goes, there were some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and would recommend a trigger warning on the book when it’s released. Luckily for me I’m not the queasy type and have no triggers so I really enjoyed this disturbing story! I would recommend to anyone that’s not sensitive to shocking abusive storylines and is down for a wild ride!

I have tried my best to listen to this book, but I did not see the warnings of the abuse, rape, most horrible vugual cursing language that my ears have never in my 69 years have ever heard.
I don’t, as a rule request audio audio books, but thought I’d try one for when I’m cleaning up and cooking.
But this was definitely NOT the book to start with. It offended every female sensibilities I have right to my last nerve. There is never ever a need to use the curse words written to even the lowest down and dirty dog..
I would be mortified for anyone to drop in to visit me and overhear this book.
This book is not in my usual forte of books I read and I know now audio books aren’t either.

My first book by NJ Moss and wowza there was a little bit of everything in this book. Definitely not my typical type of book but way more than I was expecting based on the blurb.
Aside from the cringey parts in the end (that I predicted fairly early on) I would recommend this. There's A LOT happening in this book so it's hard to say more without some spoilers.
I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed that narration

I tend to rate thrillers a little differently than other books since the main goal to me is to keep me at the edge of my seat for an entire book (or have a crazy twist or mystery). My main focuses tend to be softer if I feel like it's getting its job done.
I want to start and say this book has ALL the trigger warnings: domestic violence, violence, gore, child abuse, sexual abuse, rape, incest, many more things that I can’t think off the top of my head. This book is brutal but it works in that it keeps you engaged with the whole story. It possibly feels a little torture porn-y but honestly, I felt like we never focused too hard on the horrors or reveled in them in a way that felt like we were supposed to be staring (except for an unnecessary (to me) part at the end) but this could still be very upsetting for people with triggers.
So anyways, plot synopsis: Ellie seems to be getting her life back together, she is about to publish a book, she has a decent job and her abusive asshole ex husband just died. So she is in a pretty good place. However, things start to take a turn when random events start working against her and escalate.
This book just…goes there. I saw a twist coming from a mile away (thanks *very specific remaining nameless movie!) and was just shaking my head ‘no, no, no’ until we got to the reveal and I still couldn’t believe it actually happened. I can’t really describe this book as anything other than shocking and suspenseful but that's its goal! So yay!
The character work was fine even if most characters were shallowly built. Definitely don’t look to this for a nuanced or steeped in realism look at surviving abuse or mental illness because you won’t find that here. The timeline was absolutely crazy and made almost zero sense. There are like five twists and all of them are bonkers ridiculous. If this was longer than it was then I probably would not rate nearly as high, but the pace is set fast and the compactness of the story keeps it tense.
There doesn’t seem to be a greater message here than ‘oh my god, look how messed up this is! Isn’t it crazy and pretty entertaining?!” and yes, yes it is. But um, seriously if you can’t handle really twisted things that are not shied away from then I would pass.
I listened to this Audiobook thanks to Dreamscape Media, NJ Moss, and Netgalley. Narrated by Ella Lynch who probably gave this an extra star with her excellent narration (and wonderful accent).

Well this was unexpectedly dark, dirty, and masterful with twists that were unpredictable and unsettling, but so well written. This is definitely the book for those looking for a twisted thriller and those who are not easily disturbed. Truly, each time I thought I had the connections figured out or the next twist anticipated, I was wrong, and that is the best type of thriller in my opinion!
Eleanor and Caden did not have the perfect marriage, in fact far from it. So when her abusive husband takes his own life, Eleanor feels a sense of relief rather than a sense of loss. She is able to finally move on. Until she starts having strange things happen to her, and starts seeing him in places she obviously shouldn't. He is behind this, she knows it...him and his twisted mother Paisley. Is he really dead? She runs to her mother for solace, only to discover that she is hiding secrets of her own...
At times I found it hard to listen, as there were parts that were sad, sick, and twisted. Yet I couldn't stop, and truly that added to the overall sentiment of the novel. Please, if you want to read this book, be aware of the trigger warnings! But if you can get past those, this is a really great read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced listener copy in exchange for an honest review!

This was my first audiobook I attempted as I don’t typically handle them well. But I was pleasantly surprised in how I enjoyed the telling of the details of the book. Plus - the accent of the narrator was a bonus!
I feel as though there needs to be a trigger warning on this book as there is heavy mention of abuse and assault - which can be hard for many to read and hear. I think it was told in a well done way, especially since the story is told by the victim.
I think the narrator did a great job presenting the story and changed up the energy a lot - which was fantastic!

My dead husband was definitely full of twists and turns. The plot touches on DV and towards the end gets very graphic and intense compared to most books. The story itself was pretty good and kept me hooked, wanting to know how it all played out.

GRAPHIC WARNING: this book dealt with physical abuse, mind games, mental illness, incest and frankly was too much for me. I have read books about abuse but this could have triggers for many. So be prepared. The narrator was great, but this was just difficult.

Well, this one was a DNF for me. The repeated, violent and disgusting comments toward the MC were just too much to listen to. And this is from a person who swears like a sailor! I may have possibly been able to read them without feeling as uncomfortable, but I was listening to the audiobook, and it was just too much.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

This was a really difficult book to not only review but also to listen to. The synopsis given by the author/publisher does not prepare you for the absolute depravity contained inside.
I received an advanced listener copy so the narrator was fine. Her voices for each character and accent varied appropriately and she wasn’t audibly clearing her throat or swallowing excessively so I would be inclined to listen to another book she narrates.
Originality is a positive mark for the author because I’ve never read another storyline similar to this however there is probably a reason for that and hopefully if it happens again I don’t go blindly into it.
Pace- this book certainly kept the pace and didn’t lull.
The depravity described in detail was sickening. There were times I had to stop the book and do something else because I was physically getting sick. The lewdness however did lend to the storyline so it wasn’t unwarranted regardless of how hard it was to listen to.
Besides the obvious main plot in the book that was bordering on outlandish although possibly this has happened somewhere before although I doubt it but they do say if it can be thought up, it probably has happened to someone, somewhere before, there were so many things that happened to the main character on the journey of this book that it would be comical if it were any other book but trust me when I say NOTHING in this book is funny. Period.
Freddie’s song and the narrator singing it made me not only cringe but fast forward 60 seconds in the book and I’ve never done that in an audiobook before and I’ve listened to thousands in my 44 years.
I’ve never been happier to be finished with a book before. If you have no triggers and love to be shocked and repulsed then this is definitely the book for you but for me- I think I’ll pass on this author in the future.

I think I’m in the minority when I say this book wasn’t for me.
When people coin a book as “all of the characters were unlikeable” or “there was too much going on,” that is usually a trigger for me to want to read the book. I love to hate characters who have a lot going on. But this one was over the top. I realize that may be intentional to the story, but my wee brain just couldn’t keep track. I found myself confused about the timeline and characters. I just found it confusing and far-fetched.
That said, I didn't have any issues with the language, violence, or twisted imagery going on... I think I will still try another book by the author hoping that this one is just a one-off because I like twisted books and I think that NJ Moss is a twisted author. I mean that in the best way possible.
Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the chance to preview this book and offer an honest review.

My Dead Husband by N.J. Moss was a book I requested from #NetGalley and #Dreamscape Media. The blurb sounded really interesting and the audio sample was good. Ella Lynch performed the book very well, especially the insane and depraved characters. Unfortunately I did not like the story of abuse, rape, incest, murder and insanity. I think this book could have triggers for those suffering from abuse.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audiobook.
I honestly don't know what I just listened to... thought I'd like it at first, despite the anxiety the descriptions of assault gave me. The twists were just so satisfyingly good that I kept listening despite that. But then there was just too much, and I think overall if you're into stories with a brutally twisted nature, go for it. Just not my cup of tea. Narrator did a good job.

I really enjoyed the synopsis of this book, however I could only get about 1 / 3 of the way through before giving up. A lot of the content was vulgar, & extremely intense - far too much for my liking. There's a lot of triggers in this book with extreme domestic violence, mental health & rape. Unfortunately for me it was just too intense and uncomfortable.
I still appreciate the chance for having been able to give it a try!

Wow. Initially, I found My Dead Husband to be a run-of-the-mill domestic thriller. This was an audio listen provided by #dreamscapemedia in exchange for an honest review. I must admit I didn’t particularly care for the narrators voice, but that may simply be a personal preference. This story though…as many twisted things as I have read in my lifetime, I was NOT expecting the twists and turns that unraveled here! Ellie seems to have escaped an abusive relationship when her future ex dies by suicide, but then she catches glimpses of him and begins to receive threatening phone calls and sabotage of her up and coming novel, as well as with her career. In the midst of it all, Ellie finds love again and seeks to uncover the truth of her past. This book will no doubt take you by surprise – but whether or not that is a good thing is up to you. #MyDeadHusband #NetGalley #JennReviews

Is it sick and twisted that I couldn’t stop listening to this sick and twisted audiobook? As you know I don’t typically do trigger warnings but…… I would feel like I let people down if I didn’t review this one with a major warning. So Warning: this is definitely not a book for the faint of heart.
The triggers are plentiful, the language is sometimes crude, and some of the scenes are downright disturbing to say the least, yet here I am to say…it was entertaining. This book was about the cycle of abuse, mental illness, and revenge.
This book alternates between Ellies POV and her mother, Lottie. Ellie’s husband, Kayden, has recently committed suicide and her schizophrenic mother starts to reveal more of her sordid past through a journal she wrote. Paisley Hunter, the husbands mother, may be one of the darkest characters I’ve ever met.
Ella Lynch did an excellent job bringing this macabre, twisted tale to life.

Wow, this is a dark, brutal thriller. Definitely not for the faint of heart. But the plot definitely is intriguing and moves the action along. There were a few things about the writing style that bugged me, but the storyline definitely made up for those minor things.

This book was a miss for me. Unlike other reviewers, I didn’t dislike the language, the darkness or the sick and twisted nature of some of the plot points. All that stuff is cool by me. I am a sicko. What I had a problem with was the treatment of domestic violence and the unrealistic and one-dimensional nature of the female characters.
Having just read the excellent domestic thriller The Favor by Nora Murphy, it’s hard not to compare the two books. The Favor is a sensitive and nuanced portrayal of what it’s like to be in a violent intimate relationship. This book was almost comical in its portrayal of a victim of domestic violence as a vengeful, gleeful person whose experience with intimate partner violence does not ring true and is not at all sensitive.
Another reviewer wrote that this feels like a book written by men for men. I wish I’d read that review before picking this up. I somewhat agree - with the caveat that many male writers are wonderfully adept at creating nuanced, believable female characters. AND some women, in turn can’t write believable women. I don’t know the gender of this author, but I do completely agree that the women in this novel were off-putting and unrealistic and full of dated assumptions and stereotypes. I found myself eye-rolling, and it was a struggle to push through.
I love audiobooks in this genre and I find that sometimes I tend to be easier to please than other readers simply because of my love of the genre, but I really can’t recommend this one.
Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the chance to preview this book and offer an honest review.

Very twisted psychological thriller! Trigger warning for topics brought up about abuse. Ellie finds out her abuse ex-husband is dead, but she thinks she sees him everywhere. This book was a little too sick and twisted for me.
