Easily the most disturbing book I have read but I could not put it down. It is not an easy read but so very well written and captivated me that I needed to finish it. Ellie has finally left her abusive husband and for the most part is shying away from men because of what she had experienced in her marriage. She gets a call from her mother-in-law telling her that her husband is dead, and Ellie feels a sense of relief and freedom to do what she has always wanted to do and that is become a terrific writer. As she moves forward with her life, she begins to receive crude and obnoxious phone calls, ratings of her work and reviews start to crumble, a break in to her flat, and attacks on her person. She begins to wonder if she is losing her mind or if someone is out to sabotage her progress forward. Crude, dark and creepy. I listened to this with utter shock! It was crazy and I had to see where it would end. This book should come with a warning . Psychological thriller showing that anyone can have children but it takes a special person to be a parent rather than a demon. This is definitely a book if you read you won't forget.
Thanks to Bloodhound books, Netgalley and the author.

Wow what a ride! This book was a lot more disturbing that I realized. I found myself uncomfortable in a few parts but also unable to put it down. It is definitely created for the lovers of a fast paced and dark read. I enjoyed the narrator of the audio version and found her to be easy to listen too.

This book was too much for me. There was incest, rape, death....it crossed so many lines and some parts were just downright disgusting and I was cringing the entire time. This book tried too hard to be something it should never want to be.

This is a dark and twisted psychological thriller that crossed way too many lines for me - incest, rape, sadistic torture ... Honestly, I would have added it to my Did Not Finish pile had I not needed to finish so that I could provide a review for NetGalley.

Ellie's Terror
Ellie grew up with a mother suffering from mental illness. She is now working at a good job having just left her abusive husband behind. She has even published a book.
Then her mother in law tells her that her husband is dead, that he committed suicide and it is her fault.
Ellie thinks that since he is now gone she will be able to live a normal life and leave the past behind. Can the past ever be left behind? She starts getting weird phone calls and someone is leaving bad reviews on both her book site and her work site. She is in danger of losing her job and having her book deal flop.
Then she meets Freddie and he says he will help her figure out what is going on and find the person that is causing her trouble.
What she finds is so horrible , the secrets so bad that she can barely stand it. What secrets can be so damaging? Then her mother calls with more secrets and Ellie knows what she has to do to make it right, but does it?
This book has a lot of twist and turns. It has some vulgar language and both spousal and sexual abuse. If those are triggers for you than this book is not for you. If you don't mind the above and want a spine tingling psychological thriller than you will like this book.
The narrator had a lovely accent and did a good job.
There are parts of the book I did not enjoy, but I kept wanting to know what would happen next and what the next secret would be. I need to listen to the excerpt of the book first and be a bit more picky in choosing books.
Thanks to N.J. Moss, Ella Lynch, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for making the audio book available to me.

This book is terrifying, especially with this audio version. It draws you in immediately. After finally being free from an abusive marriage, Ellie is more afraid than ever. Disturbing things start to happen to her and she questions her sanity. Is it real or is it imagined? This story is full of twists and turns, and the ending will leave you speechless.
Thank you for this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!

“My Dead Husband” is a new read/listen by NJ Moss, new author to this reader. Wow! I tend to shy away from psychological thrillers but on occasion read them from time to time. This novel, I didn’t think would be so very dark for a thriller that had the wrong kind of romance. Did I say wrong…definitely wrong!

Well, if you are someone who likes dark…and I mean dark thrillers, then this is a story/audiobook you definitely must put on your TBR. This book has some twists, turns, disturbing situations and outcomes while incorporating mental illness into the fray. Yes, Ellie is the heroine of this story but the subcharacters join together to make this story come to life. It is a well-written, well-developed, well-thought out and oh so close to sinister. Hate to think that I found the story so unsettling that it was hard for me to put it down, however I had to finish until the end. Did I say this book was wrong…it is exactly all kinds of wrongs but oh so right to listen/read. This story got stranger and stranger by the chapters that the ending totally surprised and shocked me to the core.
As mentioned, this was an audiobook listen and the narration was nicely performed by Ella Lynch. Well done NJ Moss. Recommend if you desire to listen or read something out of your ordinary that is dark and twisted. A definite 5-Stars.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC Audiobook in exchange for my fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

I am obviously the wrong market for this book, because it has lots of great reviews, but I am not among them. Read these positive reviews, and see if you might be in their camp. For me, this was just too dark. And I've never considered myself a prude, but one of the characters was just too crude. I didn't enjoy reading it. However, I get that it was part of the character's psyche. Stars are for a creative story and good writing.
I can say I really enjoyed the narrator. I lived in Scotland for three years, and she really nailed the melody of the language, in my opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley , the author, and publisher for allowing me to listen to this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

My Dead Husband could also be titled Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink! Because so much happens to Ellie in this book that I almost got whiplash!
Let's get the triggers out of the way first - There are a lot! I would be giving away a lot of the book if I mentioned all but here are some - horribly disturbing abuse and mental illness to name a few.
Ellie left her husband, Kayden and his horrible abuse and one day learns that he is dead. She thinks she can finally move on with her life, but that is when the horrors really begin. She receives threatening phone calls, a broken window at her home, bad reviews online for her book, etc. She begins to look inward and wonder if she is on the verge of a breakdown or if she is really experiencing these attacks/acts of sabotage.
The one bright side is a new relationship. He is encouraging and supportive and encourages her to face things head on by going back to Scotland and....
Whew, as I mentioned everything, but the kitchen sink is thrown into the mix here. Over the top??? Way over the top - and yet...it was enjoyable. I had to suspend all kinds of disbelief while reading this. At times I just rolled my eyes and thought "What next?"
I listened to the audio book and thought the narrator did a good job. This book moved at a fast speed as there was so much going on and so many questions that popped up.
As I mentioned are triggers in this book. A lot of them. This book has some very disturbing situation and occurrences. If the author was going for shock value - He nailed it!
Enjoyable yet very dark and disturbing.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ellie’s escape from the sadistic bully she married and his subsequent suicide should have her breathing a sigh of relief; no more looking over her shoulder, Why then, is she more afraid than ever? Creepy phone calls, the sabotage of her work as a writer and what she believed was a reflection of her dead husband standing behind her, all have her afraid she’s losing her mind. She takes matters into her own hands and begins to question the story of her husband’s suicide (which was relayed to her by her mother-in-law). Readers will probably be able to figure out what’s going on before Ellie does, but this is an entertaining read nonetheless

Ellie managed to escape from husband Kayden’s vicious abuse—and since learning from her mother-in-law that he’s taken his own life, she’ll never have to worry about him again. But instead of relief, Ellie is now experiencing terror in the form of frightening phone calls, hostile strangers on the street, and what appears to be deliberate sabotage of her writing career. Thinking she’s spotted a reflection of Kayden’s face only makes her wonder if she’s having a breakdown… again.
With the help of a new man in her life, Ellie intends to head to Scotland and find out once and for all what is real and what is illusion—but the deeper her investigation goes, the darker the truth becomes..
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for giving me an advanced copy.

This book was incredibly unsettling and got even more so as the novel progressed. It's still a well-written book with well-developed (although extremely sinister) characters. And the twists? Omg, wow.
It's an ideal audiobook because it's easy to follow the story and the perfect length. The narrator is wonderful.
Thanks for the advance review copy.

This was all kinds of wrong! Crude, dark and creepy. I listened to this with utter shock! It was crazy and I had to see where it would end. Gahhhh. It just got stranger and stranger. Is that the word I want to use?? Maybe.
I have this thing about Mothers and how they treat their kids. I’m just throwing that out there because this mother was something else.
The writing was good, but the topic was difficult and and and I don’t know what else to say! If you like dark and twisted then, this is for you.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and this was narrated by Ella Lynch. She did a great job. It’s was 7 hours and 56 minutes long.
Thanks Dreamscape Media via NetGalley.
