This is the story of Riley, the non-binary forth grader, who is totally accepted by their classmates, and who even look up to them, when it comes to costume design.
The whole school is trying to come up with costumes of their favorite book characters, and the children are not sure if they can dress as knights, if they are girls, or as a rainbow, or as Alice in Wonderland.
But with Riley's help, and encouragement, plus the parents and teachers that are all accepting, costume day turns out well.
What I really love about this book is that the story isn't about Riley as a non-binary child, though it is about them, but how they are part of the story of playing with costumes. Their gender is explained, and then the story moves on, which is the best way to do it. That helps the children who are in the same situation realize that what they are feeling is normal.
This is a great book to show tolerance, as well as acceptance.

Thank you, Capstone - Stone Arch Books, for the advance reading copy.
I love this graphic novel so much! I appreciate the artwork. It's so easy to the eyes and damn adorable. I also appreciate the beginners' style of writing for the narration parts as well.
Moreover, I love the contents so much which focuses on defining the different sexual/gender identities the young and everyone else needs to be aware of.
It's such a feel good, engaging book. The activities described are so much fun. The team work concept as well as the active participation of the adults are the highlights of the book.
I am waiting for the book to come out. It's time to make the rest of the world read it.
The mere fact that this book (a children's book with a nonbinary main character) makes me so happy on so many levels. First of all, the allowance of a young child to identify within a gender outside of their birth?!?! Amazing representation for young ones. The little lesson with key terms in the beginning of the book?!?! Loved.
Everything about this book was just os heartwarming to me as somebody on the nonbinary spectrum. I loved the casual way gender was handled, the casual queerness both in gender and sexuality represented in the book, I loved the story, and I loved the illustrations. Everything about this!!! My fave.
Thank you!
This is such a wonderful kids book with a nonbinary protagonist! I mainly read YA and the occasional NA or adult book but I love picking up stories like these. It's so refreshing seeing lgbt representation in children's books. I would've loved for this book to exist when I was younger.
This book follows Riley and their friends throughout the days they get ready for a costume day. We see their friendship and casual lgbt rep! It's a lovely story and everyone should pick this up for kids they know or even for themselves.
