Rosemary Stanhope is a wallflower yet Sterling Nottingham, the Duke of Hanover, finds her fascinating. She has a pet squirrel whilst he is consistently drunk and can’t seem to remember her actual name. Yet when they are together, the sparks do fly. Since become the duke six years ago, Sterling has done all that he can to live with the burden of his brother’s death. He has been accused of killing his mistress and he fears any romantic attachment, but when he is with Rosemary, it seems that he sees more clearly.
This was a lovely romance and the character of Sterling, so desperately in need of someone like Rosemary, that it made the romance very plausible. Rosemary’s ability to understand the behaviour of animals, makes Sterling’s bravado, more easily understood. Having read the previous books in this series, I was also delighted to see many of the earlier characters; however, this is a standalone romance. I so look forward to reading more in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A beautiful story of a rake who learns that true beauty comes from within. Sterling is a man of many vices. Alcohol, women, gambling & guilt. Rosemary is an unconventional Lady. Quiet & unseen with a pet squirrel. When the two meet, the chemistry is instant and undeniable, and so begins a Lady’s journey to heal a desolate Duke. Jillian Eaton has a way with words. She tells the story with an ever-flowing excitement and humour. When I read the line, “this was how the mouse felt as he’d scurried up to the lion to pluck the thorn from his paw.”, I realized that was exactly how I likened their connection from the start. The lion and the mouse! A great read with wonderful characters, including the true Hero, the squirrel!

Wooed by the Wallflower - Jillian Eaton
Tropes: Rake/Wallflower
Release 2/22/22
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🔥🔥

What do you get when you put a wallflower, a duke and a pet squirrel together? One heck of a fun book! Wooed by the Wallflower is a delightfully funny, laugh-out-loud, charming piece to read. The playful banter and undeniable chemistry between our two main characters will have tears of laughter rolling from your eyes.

Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover is filled with self-loathing and finds himself accused of murdering his mistress. Trying to deal with his pain, he buries his feelings the best way he knows how…with gin…lots and lots of gin. But when he “accidentally” kisses an average-looking, squirrel toting wallflower by the name of Rosemary Stanhope while drunk at a house party, sparks fly. There’s something about Rosemary (and that kiss) that he simply can’t forget.

Rosemary is sweet, kind and just a tad bit peculiar. But after her first kiss with the Duke of Hanover, she can’t believe her luck…and her heart longs for something she never thought possible. Through a series of coincidental meetings, these two emotionally broken people find a friendship and a love that can’t be ignored!

Overall, this book was an enjoyable read. Enjoyed seeing characters from the three previous books and meeting new ones. Although fun in nature, I would have preferred a bit more passion…and definitely more “burn” between our two main characters!!!

This regency romance had me glued to every page. I love a good wallflower and scoundrel story. Rosemary and Sterling are definitely not a perfect match but they do make the perfect couple. I was easily immersed in their journey to their happily ever after.

Although this novel opens on a damning note as far as the Duke of Hanover is concerned, it does get better as he finds himself being entertained by the unconventional Miss Rosemary Stanhope, whose best friend is a squirrel. Others may disparage Rosemary for her dowdy clothing and odd ways, but Sterling finds himself defending her, even as he teases her at every meeting. The background to the storyline is sad, but when Stirling is with Rosemary, he discovers that the pain of his past no longer has the power to engulf him as it once did. Dependent on her crotchety grandmother, Rosemary is much happier in the country than in the city, but when forced to attend society functions, she does her best to disappear in plain sight. It is through Sterling that she learns that all she has to do is be herself. Although this book is a standalone, it is part of a series and it was enjoyable reading about Rosemary's cousins and the progress made by them. Ultimately, the riddle that Thomas Kincaid has been grappling with is solved and bridges are mended, making this a most enjoyable romance. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Absolutely beautiful! I adored Rosemary and Sterling from the first second. They captured me in a way not a lot of regency romance novel protagonists can, so their chemistry had me devouring this book in a couple hours. Clearly, opposites attract!

I’d like to thank the publisher for sending me a copy of the book through NetGalley!

DISCLAIMER: I haven’t read the books before in this series.
Wooed by the wallflower is a cute and extremely charming historical romance that follows Rosemary and Sterling. (To be fair I’m not partial to either of the names)

Something refreshing about this novel was the unique plot at least when it came to the characters. Rosemary is shown as rather smart and self-sufficient and Sterling has good character development (I’ll get to that part later) the squirrel was a sweet addition to the book.

The best part was (this is totally a personal preference) it doesn’t end with pregnancy and we see them enjoying time together as a couple which is pretty rare in historic romance novels.

Right now to the parts of the book that I didn’t like.

The way grief and alcoholism are dealt with, After dealing with both for the better part of a decade Sterling seems to almost suddenly get over with apparently for the women he loves. While I get what the author was trying to do I don't think these much darker topics were dealt with the respect they deserve.

A lot of telling not showing, we are told time and time again that they loved each other but not why they love each other. The angst of realizing you’re in love wasn’t there and it just felt unrealistic?

Overall I enjoyed reading it and will probably check out more work by the author!

Thanks to Netgalley, Dragonblade Publishing and the author for an ARC of this book. I have not been paid for this review and am leaving it voluntarily.

Oh I loves me a wallflower/reformed rake historical romance! The stranger the heroine the better. And Rosemary is pretty strange. She has a little pet squirrel that she talks to, isn't regarded as pretty and has a habit of getting into scrapes. Enter the rake, Sterling, who carries a burden of guilt over his brother's death and is supremely lonely but in denial about it. He is inexplicably drawn to the cooky Rosemary, who he can't seem to stop kissing.

Sterling's redemption is hard-won and lovely to see, and Rosemary doesn't so much as transform into a butterfly as become recognised for the wonderful human she is.

This has all my catnip - unconventionally attractive woman, man with demons to conquer and an overpowering attraction. The only criticism I would have is that there was a little bit of drama which felt tacked onto the end - I found it abrupt. But that may be because I haven't read the previous books. It's well-written and fun and I really enjoyed it.

Jillian Eaton has been spending the previous three books of this series teasing this romance, so you know that I was clicking Request as soon as I saw this pop up on NetGalley. After really loving the first two installments and being really disappointed in the third, I was curious to see where this would fall on the spectrum.

I really enjoyed the characterization of our main couple, Rosemary and Sterling. They had great banter, enough backstory to keep them from becoming caricatures, and I could really see how they fit together as a couple. As always, the side characters are absolutely delightful and really bring this world to life.

I do wish that we had gotten more relationship development at the top of this book as I felt it really took for granted the small moments that we have seen between these characters in previous books. I think it really would have strengthened the overall book. In addition, the subplot in which Sterling is trying to clear his name for a murder that he didn't commit is criminally underdeveloped. It could have been one of the most interesting parts of this book, but we barely get to see it.

It's definitely an improvement for me from the last installment, but Evie and Weston's book still holds supreme in my heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!

I never thought I would love a historical romance this much!

It's the writing that kept me hooked since the very first page. And I was sobbing a few pages in because my heart was already breaking for a character. Yes, it is this good!

I find the characters vert engaging and lively throughout the book. The chemistry is amazing.

The story is really past paced for a romance fiction (I don't quite expect a romance read to be fast paced but I am glad this one was). I finished up reading the book in one sitting and I wanted more of it.

I feel for the main character as well as for Sterling (you will know who he is when you read the book). The character development of the main characters has been done exceptionally well.

There are so many parts in this book which will make you long as much as our main character is longing for her lover. It's desperate. It's torture. But most of all it's the pleasure of getting lost in the writing that would make you feel quite ecstatic while reading this book.

I find the plot rather well planned. The ending has a closure which I find quite satisfying.

If there's a next book coming, I am here for it!

Another favourite author discovered!

Thank you, Dragonblade Publishing, for the advance reading copy.

The books in this series just keep getting better and better.
Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover, is full of sadness and hate for himself. He has been accused of murdering his mistress so now he is rusticating in the country. But there he meets the sweet and ridiculous wallflower Rosemary Stanhope and kisses her, and now that he knows what she tastes like, kissing her again is all he can think about.
Rosemary was as surprised as the Duke of Hanover when he kissed her and for some reason, their paths keep crossing…and before long she finds herself falling for the one man who loves her for who she is, squirrel and all.
I loved the previous books in this series, but this is quite special. The writing is flawless, witty, smart and impossible to put aside. I loved both of the main characters. Sterling is so sexy and witty! The way he keeps changing her name is funny and romantic. And she is so special and honest. So good together!!!
The chemistry between them is of the chart. There are many hot moments and wonderful, wonderful kisses. Lots and LOTS of hot kisses SIGH.
My favorites will always be Evie and Weston from Entranced by the Earl, but this couple was just right there! This book is a must.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the historical romance for all the girls that are special, unique, and don't quite fit in.

I loved the characters in this book. Rosemary is smart, has a love for animals, and shines from the inside. Sterling definitely had a hard past and didn't deal with it well. I mean, how many books start out with a duel. The great part is how good the two of them are together since they really see eachother. My favorite character was Sir Reginald, Rosemary's pet squirrel. He seemed to either ruin a moment or save the day, but he was really an extension of Rosemary's unique personality.

The only character that I didn't like was Rosemary's grandmother. Some details were given to understand why she was so rigid, but she was almost a bit too much of a curmudgeon.

This is a book in a series, but would work well as a stand alone book as well. I was happy to see main characters that weren't your typical highly liked members of society. A view into the heart instead!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of this ARC for an honest review.

The most anticipated book of this series – at least in my opinion. This story is a little bit darker than a lot of Jillian’s stories and I like the dark ones. We remember Rosemary and Sterling from previous books so their natural conclusion was a welcome addition to the series. We finally find out if Sterling had something to do with his brother being killed and his mistress’ death. Again, another storyline I really like. The way Jillian has written two very different people coming together through bickering, kissing and a squirrel is such fun. Oh yeah, I am so there. The only drawback for me was the ease of conclusion to the mystery. It was wrapped up a little too quickly.

Will he let his past define his future …

Wow two released books in a week by the author, hazard of schedule but fun as both feature irreverent Dukes.
I remember in Evie and Brynne’s stories the few hints offered about Rosemary and Sterling’s upcoming romance.
Rosemary from the beginning has been presented as the reserved overlooked bookish odd wallflower. A miss who prefers animals’ company to humans as they tend to make her feel awkward for being different, compassionate and kind. Her being shunned for her demure persona could have changed her, but if having been raised by a less than demonstrative woman, did not froze her character instead it made more in tune with those in pain, hurting.
Sterling is a man of all the excesses, a man who reveals in every sins available to his ilk. And when he thought he has reached the bottom, his life has gone spiraling downward with now a suspicion of murder tarnishing his name. Why he is there, rusticating in the country, bored to tears, seducing every petticoat crossing his path. Thus how he finds himself kissing a little mouse of a wallflower. A woman who unexpectedly arouses his interest and slowly lodges herself into his mind.

They are fun together, as Sterling sees her, he notices the reserved woman, and acknowledges her for the intriguing and clever Miss she is. While Rosemary sees the scars he tries to hide, she does not absolve him of his mistakes but accepts him as he is, flaws and failing, funny edge and loving side.
With her pet squirrel, they make quite a team, the male members determined to protect Rosemary, as for all his faults, he can not stand to watch her being bullied or belittled. While she is his buoy in an ocean tempest, his beacon, she keeps him afloat when he was drowning, for her he will change the course of his life.

This book lacked depth, which was unfortunate. The characters were just, very suddenly in love, which I knew because the author told me repeatedly. However, I didn’t see any of that.

All of the conflict in the story is wrapped up without nuance. The male protagonist stands accused of murder and the female protagonist just decides he’s innocent. The male protagonist has a drinking problem, solved easily the first time he addresses it. The mystery of the book is similarly unsatisfactory.

Rosemary Stanhope is a wallflower and a Squirrel Keeper Extraordinaire. Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover, is a drunk, gambler and womanizer. He may even be a murderer. There are even questions about how he inherited the title. Rosemary intrigues him with a sweetness and ability to see the man beneath the facade. One kiss between them is not a mistake. She is his first glimpse of light in six years. Is it any wonder he wants to be a better man? Is it any wonder that he loves her? Sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, they both need each other.
