Fortuna Sworn is a fantasy novel of faes, goblins, shapeshifters, nymphs, werewolf. An attention grabing blurb promising supernatural activities and entity which I'm craving right now. The story is told only on Fortuna's POV. Great world-building, interesting twists and the book standard has much potential.
I'm definitely curious to know what happens after the cliffhanger at the end of the story.

It was a good book with a strong heroine. Though the writing style took me a bit to get used to, the plot kept me going.
I does find the trials to be a bit easier than expected so they felt rushed. Or they were rushed and that’s why they seemed a little too easy? Regardless, it’s a quick read and definitely one I’d recommend if you’ve been sitting in the fence about it.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

OMG!!! This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.

I highly enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Kept me listening.

I have started and not finished this audiobook several times. I had heard wonderful things, but unfortunately could not get into the plot or characters enough to feel like I should continue to read this series. The fantasy and love triangle felt a little stale. The FMC wasn't really likeable, and the plot took way too long to get really going in my opinion. A little bummed, I was excited based on what I'd heard, so a bit of a let down.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audiobook of this novel. I was unfortunately not able to get far into this novel, and feel that a review would not be appropriate.

A little slow paced but still enjoyable. The characters were well flushed out and I liked everyone. I do recommend. It’s worth pushing through!

An excellent rendition of Fortuna sworn! I actually loved the story (though it’s definitely dark) and thought the narrator did a great job!

To be completely honest, I've been picking up this book and putting it down for months and months. Mostly out of boredom and lack of engagement with the characters and the plot. When I finally got around to finishing this, I was mortified to find out that this is as close to plagiarism you can get without it truly being plagiarism (the trials Under the Mountain in ACOTAR book 1). In addition, I am very off put by love triangles. so this overall just did not do it for me.

Thank you for this netgalley review copy, I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me of good fantasy romance. I would definitely read more by this author espcially because there was good storyline to go with the romance :P
I also really liked the characters and character development, I'd easily recommend this books to fans of Holly Black but with more spice and obvs different setting.

Unfortunately, I could not finish this book because the audiobook narration was so annoying. The plot itself was just fine (a bit too basic and formulaic for me). Overall, I wonder if I would’ve liked the MC more if the audiobook had a different narration.

2.75 Stars (I received an audio arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

I heard quite a bit about this book and finally got to listening to the story. I was enjoying the first few chapters and then we got to the odd dream world/ dream friend. I just couldn’t get past this point, I was creeped out by the dream friend who had been with her for a long time. I do like the concept of the main character being a nightmare, it is rare to see authors tackle this fantastical/ mythological creature. Maybe reading the physical book would work more but the audiobook just wasn’t for me.

Audio narration was done wonderfully. Interesting story, looking forward to continuing the series. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for granting me access to an audio book for review.

I enjoyed this book so much that I had to put all others on hold to read the entire series! This is amazing, as I've not experienced this strong of a reaction before. I bought every book in the series to date, and I'm waiting for the next one. The characters are well developed, and the emotions they brought on were strong. I felt transported into the pages almost instantly, and felt such strong connections to this very fictional landscape. I could see, smell, hear, and feel everything I read! It was a truly magical experience.

I am grateful that Netgalley and Dreamscape Media allowed me this opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

I have heard so much about this book and now I finally understand the hype. I loved this book! Fortuna Sworn made me feel a LOT of things. None of those feelings were warm and fuzzy, which is what most of my 5-stars make me feel, but I absolutely loved it. I loved how dark, gritty, and raw it was. I loved that even though it made me feel helpless, alone, scared, and furious I couldn't put it down, and by the end I felt vindicated. And these emotions and tears weren't from dislike, but from commiserating with our MC. I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next.

The author attempts at a feminist and diverse point of view through Fortuna Sworn. However, acting crass and essentially being a "pick me girl" does not make a person (of any gender) a feminist. The diversity is boiled down to literal description of characters along with their backstory, which does nothing for the ultimate story. As a feminine genderfluid person who was born a woman, I had high expectations for this story. I want the thrill and excitement that comes from reading a story with a female protagonist. I hate to say I did not feel that way with this book.

I read this book and then never reviewed it. However, once I finished I binged the next 2 books. I really enjoyed the first book and was very glad to see that it got in into a big reading mood.

The narrator did a good job on this one. Very easy to follow and understand. Good voice differentiation. I liked the ending. I wasn’t expecting it until towards the end.

I listened to an audiobook arc copy of this title and I had a good time with it! The narrator did a great job with every character having a unique voice and it was super easy to follow along. I definitely recommend going that route with reading it!

As for the story, I did enjoy it and it was definitely a quick read but it wasn’t a top favourite or anything. The main characters powers were my favourite part for sure and just her in general. I loved how independent she was but also how she was so focused on saving her brother and that family loyalty.

The fae court aspects along with the rest of the paranormal components were super neat too and I hope they delve deeper into that in future books. I do think I’ll be continuing on with this series! I’m intrigued enough to see what other mischief Fortuna gets into.

3.5/5

I was so completely pumped for this book simply based off of the cover, and honestly, I wasn’t let down. Though I was majorly confused why a book with a woman in a gown on the front began to reference things like cell phones, once I realized it was an urban fantasy, I kind of got over it. Kinda of. It seemed weird to me to have this book be an urban fantasy when it so easily could have just been a classic fantasy book set in a time with no phones, but I don’t think it took away from the story. I guess it is just more personal preference that I felt like it was out of place.

There was a lot going on in this story. Like, A LOT. But it definitely kept me on my toes. Fortuna is a very interesting paranormal creature with unique abilities, and I really liked her character. She’s a little rough around the edges, and all she really wants to do is survive. And once she finds out that her brother is still alive, all she wants is to save him.

I only have one real problem with this book. As I got further into it, I realized something… I felt like I knew this story. A girl wants to save her family, so she makes a deal with a faery, has to go with him to his land that happens to be underground where she later goes through trials… It’s just ACOTAR but with Nesta as the main character, less spice, and so far, no Rhysand to be seen. The similarities are truly unbelievable, to the point that I looked up when the book was published to see if it was before or after ACOTAR. I’m not saying it is a complete rip off, because it is good in its own way, but there were times I just couldn’t believe how much it was like ACOTAR.

My only other issue is the trigger warnings at the end of the amazon description. Now, I go into my books blind, meaning I don’t even look up trigger warnings, though I really should. But the fact that the triggers are only sexual harassment, toxic relationships, and slavery is a little unbelievable to me. I am not going to spoil anything, but there is much more than a “toxic relationship” displayed between two characters in this book. It is fully sexual assault and manipulation. We don’t read the full extent of the sexual abuse, but it is much much more than just toxic. So, be fair warned.

I never love the feeling that I have read a book before, but honestly, this book was different enough for me, and left me on enough of a cliffhanger that I really enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the second one. I think if you can look past the similarities or are even looking for something that feels like ACOTAR, you’d also really enjoy this book!

Narration
Emma Lysy did a good job narration this story, but I always like it when the narrators do voices for each character. When they don’t it makes it harder for me to keep the characters straight. Lysy did put feeling into her narration, I just wish there had been some attempt at some character voices.

This book brought a whole new world to life for me. It’s gritty, edgy and dark, in the best ways. The characters have depth and are shown with having both good and bad qualities which is sometimes rare in books. The main character, Fortuna, is someone you will love or hate, but always admire. Her choices lead this book literally down into an untold world of vicious beasts. This fantasy survival story is worth the read. I will be grabbing the next in the series asap!
