Review: If you are looking for a dark and mysterious ya fantasy, I would recommend this book.

Super fun story and can't wait to dive more into the series!
The narration was a little off for me for this one, but overall didn't deter from listening.

Let me start off by saying I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately in this case I can’t. The story has a lot of potential and I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I hadn’t listened to the audiobook and read the physical version instead. There was just something about the narration that felt like nails on a chalk board to me. I will definitely give it a second chance down the road and read it rather than listen. Please keep in mind this rating is purely based on the audiobook of which I was approved an ARC of., I am thankful for the opportunity and wish I enjoyed it as much as I hoped I would when requesting.

Meh. This book was entertaining but a lot of the plot points felt worn out. I am so tired of the “mating bond” concept. I enjoyed the “Nightmare” species of Fallen creatures, which was new to me.

Fortuna Sworn is a YA fantasy about an underworld and a girl caught in it. This was a very fast-paced story with solid worldbuilding and exciting characters. I can't wait to read the next installment, as this one ended in a cliffhanger. The audio narration was delightful.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review! I can see why this book is so popular on Booktok, especially with it’s similarities to ACOTAR and The Cruel Prince. There’s some fascinating world-building and Fortuna is such an interesting main character. I recommend one for fantasy fans and I hope to check out more from this author in the future!

I decided to check out the audio of Fortuna Sworn by K.J. Sutton because I loved the print book and since I wanted a re-read I thought this would be a great way to revisit the book. The story was great and the narrator was solid. It took me a bit to get into her voice but it did grow on me and I found myself just as invested in the story via audio as I was when I had read the print version.
If you're looking for a story that has fae, magic, secrets, and a great story definitely check this one out. I will be grabbing the audio of the other books that are out so I can continue with my re-reads!

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook.
I absolutely loved this audiobook! I was instantly pulled into the story and did not want to stop listening. Having a morally grey main character is what drew me to this audiobook in the first place and it delivered. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and see what is instore for Fortuna next.

A Court of Thorns and Roses meets These Hollow Vows.
A thrilling adventure in the dangerous land of Faerie where nothing is at is seems and Fortuna Sworn will stop at nothing to find and rescue her brother.
I love fantasy with faeries, but I really wish that authors would find a more inclusive way to describe faerie genders other than male and female. It sounds both gross and dated. Other than that, this was a more inclusive and diverse faerie story and had many of the things I wanted that were missing in ACOTAR.

Want your next fun fairy listen, then try this audiobook. The reader is engaging. For fans of Holly Black novels.

I listened to the audiobook version and Emma Lysy did a good job of narrating. I would listen to book #2 if Emma was narrating once again. It took me the better part of a month to listen to this book, not because of the narrator but because the story required me to pay more attention; so I had to listen during quiet times and I don't always have a lot of that.
When I received the audio ARC of this book I did not realize this is book #1. The book felt a little long in places but I find this to be true in the beginning of a lot of fantasy series. The ending left so many things open, although I loved the two reveals. I look forward to reading/listening to book#2 to see what happens in Fortuna's world next.

I love this and have already purchased the rest of the books. This is so refreshing as a fantasy reader. Its like nothing I've ever read/listened to. Fortuna is strong and an awesome main character while still being relatable, and im so excited for the second book

Disclaimer: I recieved a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I do see the similarities between Fortuna Sworn and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. Both involve a girl going to Faerie, having to do three perilous tasks, and both books use the phrase "she glanced at him sidelong" (although while Maas overuses that phrase, I believe I only heard it once in the audiobook for Fortuna Sworn).
But unlike Feyre who only seems to be good at irritating people and hunting in Maas' series, Fortuna is strong, possesses magic of her own, and uses the books at her disposal to arm herself with knowledge.
I will say, that after the first chapter or so, I thought the book was going in a very different direction than what ended up happening as the main plot for the book. So kudos for making the book not so cookie-cutter!
I'm looking forward to future books in this series as I'm sure they'll be filled with witty banter, revenge, romance, and a bit of violence. Just how I like my epic fantasy.

Omg that ending!!! I now need the next book immediately. Fortuna is such an amazing character. She never gives up. Im intrigued by the fae she has met and need to know more. This book is dark as are the fae. You kust cannot really trust them. I will definitely read more by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this one. I think the plot of it was super original and not something I’ve seen done in a lot of fantasy books recently. It was dark, mysterious and full of all of my favourite tropes!! I highly recommend checking this one out if you love fantasy books as much as I do.

Fortuna Sworn is a woman out to save her brother from the fae… so when the king of the unseelie court offers to become her mate, it’s an offer she cannot refuse. With a place in the unseelie court, Fortuna has the ability to save her brother, or at least find him.
Fortuna Sworn is a single POV fantasy romance. I enjoyed reading from the perspective of a non-human (Fortuna is a nightmare). I didn’t enjoy the plot conveniences. Overall, it’s a good indie fantasy romance. I will likely pick up the sequel at some point.
As someone who loves audiobooks, I was stoked to listen to Fortuna Sworn.
I received this audiobook from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Fortuna Sworn by K.J. Sutton is a fae story filled with drama, humor, magic and a bit of steamy romance.
Fortuna's parents are murdered, her brother is missing and a powerful faerie says if she marries him her brother will be found.
Did I mention she has the power to feel your worst fear and make you experience it?!
Told with just the right amount of angst, fear, lust and adventure narrator Emma Lysy heightens this dark fantasy with dramatic prowess.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

I can definitely understand why BookTok loves this book. It has all the great elements of many of our favorite books and series (Folk of the Air, ACOTAR, etc.). I think this is a great New Adult/Adult title to draw those readers, but maybe had too many similar elements for my liking.
The beginning of this story felt really fresh. Fortuna had a well-developed community, the initial challenge showed off her skills without coming off as too much exposition, and you really got a sense for where she is as a person. Unfortunately, I think you loose some of this later in the book as she gets into some of the larger challenges. The reveals are kind of predictable, but in a way that feels comfortable and familiar to fans of the series and books mentioned earlier.
Overall, I liked this book. It gets 4 stars because I would read more in this series, and am looking forward to checking it out from my library.

(4.5 stars)
Fortuna Sworn’s brother is missing. She spends her days looking for him while trying to hide her true self, Nightmare, from the world. Enter Collith, Faerie, who provides her with an offer she can’t refuse. All she has to do is marry him and he will divulge her brother’s location. Collith’s world is much more than Fortuna realized and she soon discovers that what she has been taught her whole life may not be the whole truth. Fortuna must prove herself and survive in this new world to protect her brother. Vindictive fae, court trials, and a lot of tension keep the plot rolling in this book!
I was finally able to experience what the hype is all about! I listened to Fortuna Sworn on audio and I’m so glad this is the route I chose. The narration was perfect! I believe this is the first time I have experienced Emma Lysy’s work and I will be seeking her out again. I am such a series reader so the pace of this book was perfect knowing that I would have more time to feel connections with the characters. I am obsessed with the originality of Fortuna’s powers and very intrigued with the dark themes. I can’t wait to dig into the rest of this series!!
Thank you to Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC of this book!

This was an okay novel, but I didnt love the narrator I think if I tried again with reading the text version I might like it better. On the fence about continuing the series.
