Fortuna is a nightmare and the last of her kind. She is able to sense the thing that you fear the most and make you live it. For the past two years she has been searching for her brother Damon after he vanished and hasn’t been seen since.
One day Collith a handsome dark faerie approaches Fortuna with a proposition. He says he will give her the whereabouts to her brother Damons location in exchange for her. Wondering who he is she decides to go with him to get her brother back.

This book had a pretty good starting point with all of the different folklore type creatures. Fortunas powers I thought were cool and so were a lot of the faeries. There also could be multiple love interests. Collith and Laurie and fortunas dream man Oliver and as of right now he is a dream….I think.

I do feel like there was a lack of world building for what was going on in the story. Some things didn’t really make sense and I’m wondering about Fortunas decision making skills. I’m not sure if it’s because things get answered in later books or what but I feel like there were some plot holes that needed clearing. It also has Sookie Stackhouse vibes which threw me off a little bit.
I also have no idea what Collith’s intentions really are. He just says one thing and does something else. As of right now I can’t stand him. Even Fortuna wanted to tell him to “eat shit and die” and I agreed.
I liked it enough that im going to read the next book in hopes more things get answered because it does have an interesting storyline.

As for the audio of this book…I ended up actually reading the last few chapters. I felt like the narrators voice was too high pitched and happy sounding for a book of this nature. She would be perfect for cozy mysteries with the fun sound to her voice but for this book I wasn’t a fan. If it was done duet style it would have been better. The lack of male voice took away from the story as the different voices weren’t distinguished enough with just the one narrator.

I loved this audiobook! Learning about Fortuna and the world she lives in!

I however was very upset at the cliffhanger of an ending! I was driving along listening and it got very juicy and then ended, I literally yelled at my car. I was so invested in what was going on that I didn’t want it to end!

The character development was fantastic and I cannot wait to listen to the next book!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape for a copy of this audiobook, this is my honest voluntary review.

Looking for your next NA fantasy fix?
Look no further than Fortuna Sworn!

I flew through this audiobook. It was fast paced and kept you wanting to know what would happen next. Think Cruel Prince + ACOTAR with a modern heroine who is on a mission to save her brother.

I did not anticipate the ending at all and I can't wait to start book two! I really enjoyed the narrator and will be continuing to listen as opposed to read a physical copy.

The first four books in this series are out for you to binge and book five is due out in 2023.

This was a great quality audiobook. I loved the narrator and the story was super compelling. I loved the main character's magic and the unique way that it worked on different people. I couldn't stop listening!

I did not want this to end!!! The audiobook was well done and paced nicely. Fortuna is a total badass, and I was so sad when book one ended. Romance, intrigue, and magic. Just a super fun book. I can’t wait for the second!

The delivery of this audiobook was okay...there was nothing really wrong with it, though it did feel a tad bit depthless...I know narrators tend to keep everything level so to not influence the reader too much, but I think a little more inflection could go a long way for setting the mood/atmosphere of each word.

Now onto the book itself.....so it's not my favorite book ever. I was really excited to read this as it is a new adult fantasy novel with fae, shifters, vampires...whatever mythical creature you can name, this book had it and then some...but unfortunately it was just not as good as I was hoping. The writing is more reminiscent to a young adult novel (with of course adult content that makes it new adult) in the fact that there's a special girl who is mated to a royal fae within the first few chapters for seemingly no reason at all...also, it's definitely urban fantasy as the author mentions corporations like Apple by name. That's not a bad thing necessarily, it just took me by surprise, I suppose. I guess the world building could be stronger. I appreciate that Sutton didn't just info dump her new world from the get-go, and instead told us about the world as the story went on, but a little info dump would've been helpful. The characters themselves were a little lackluster for me...I didn't really like or relate to the MC, the love interests felt static and boring so as the reader, I didn't love a single one, and the supporting characters were very surface level, so I never really grew to love any of them.

Overall, the read was okay, but not something to pick up or listen to if you have high standards with your fantasy reads.

I have had the physical book on my shelf for far too long. I was originally sucked in by the gorgeous cover... and then when I saw the new Audio Book on NetGalley, I had to try to get it! NetGalley gave the Audiobook to me and it was amazing. I loved this book so so much. The narrator was engrossing, and I loved how I was sucked into the story by her voice! The magic was so interesting in this world. It was different and yet familiar enough to feel like it could actually be real in our world. The MC, Fortuna, was bad-ass. I want to be her! The storyline sounded a little "expected" in the synopsis, but once I started the story, it was fresh and fantastic. I am so happy I was able to finally listen to this book!

this is just OK, I like the world, I like the basic piece of the story. But I kept putting this down. And then kind of forgetting about it. I only finished it so that I could turn this in. if I hadn’t gotten on NetGalley I would have DNF it. As always thinking Anet galley for sending me the truth you copy.

A fae story where our fmc Fortuna is a nightmare, the last of her kind. Her brother is missing and her main motivation is finding him. This leads her to making a deal with a Fae. This is set up to be high fantasy type epic journey. This book is definitely a set up books with lots of quick introductions and some of the main plot points felt a little rushed but over all it was still an enjoyable read and I would definitely try the next book.

I thought I would love this book based on its synopsis and I think if it was executed differently I would. I found the pacing very off, it seemed like most of the book dragged and not much happened and then too much happened in a short time. I did like our main character but also didn’t like the overall romance in the end. Not sure if I’ll continue with the series, maybe I’ll try a physical book instead of the audio next time because I also didn’t love the narrator for this story.

This story follows Fortuna Sworn a nightmare, a fallen that has the ability to see peoples greatest fears and cause nightmares,as she try’s to find her missing brother. Two years ago her brother went missing and Fortuna was unable to find him until a faerie shows up promising to take her to her brother if she marries him. Fortuna agrees and is taken off to the cruel world of the unseelie court. Fortuna begins a journey to free her brother being held slave by the fairies to do so she must become queen by 3 trials. This story follows Fortuna journey through the trials and navigating her relationship with her new fae husband .

I really enjoyed this book it felt similar to a Sarah j Maas novel. I loved the descriptions of all of the fallen. I really enjoyed the strength of Fortuna and the conflict within Collith and really want to know more. I actually already picked up the second book needing to know what happened after that ending. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration. The only con of the audiobook was some of the names were hard to keep track of . I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me with this audiobook!

I can tell already the rest of the books in the series will be excellent. This book set the stage for what I hope to be an amazing adventure. The mythical creatures alone were enough to draw me in. I love the main character and there wasn’t a dull moment. If you liked ACOTAR, you’ll love this book!

**Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I was looking to try audiobooks on Netgalley and found this book, I read some reviews and it was right up my alley so I requested it. Then, I discovered that this was the first book of the series, did not mean to stumble upon a series but I'm not mad about it. Now, the book was top-notch. I loved the concept of the nightmare (creatures that with a touch can see your deepest fears and use it against you). Although the plot was not unfamiliar I still loved the journey, the intrigue, and the slow-burn romance going on here. There were a few details that I did not love, Fortuna is a little proud and impulsive so there were some decisions that just did not make sense for me but I forgive because its the first book and hopefully it will be part of her growth. I can't really say that I'm in love with any of the characters yet, because other than Fortuna, everyone you meet has a hidden motive, so you don't know who is good or bad, which I guess is the appeal of this book. I just know that plot twists, betrayal and heartbreak are in my near future.

Overall, this was a great first book, it is set in a world where folklore such as fae, werewolves, goblins, etc. live along with humans, although this book is set more in the faerie world. The world-building is good but the focus is more on the plot, it's very fast-paced, dark, and full of mystery.
Please check trigger warnings before reading this book.

I don't know what took me so long to read this one. Probably time, in general, to just read. So when I saw the audio for review on Netgalley, I jumped on it. I fully enjoyed this book and can't wait to continue with the story.

This is a fae story, but with a twist, which is what I was hoping for. Fortuna is a "nightmare", I think that's what she's called, I could be wrong lol. But anyway, she's pretty awesome and unique, being the last of her kind. I love that she's a dark character, but isn't necessarily dark at heart, unless she needs to be. I guess you could call her morally grey-ish, which are my favorite kind of characters.

I don't want to spoil anything, but you should definitely check this out if you are looking for a NA Far story that's just a little bit different.

Fortuna Sworn was recently released in audio format, I have never read the book but had it on my tbr for a while and was fortunate enough to get a copy of the audio before release to review.

I have no issues with the audiobook. I think the Emma Lysy did a great job telling the story and had a nice voice to listen to. Her voice matched the main character and I would enjoy listening to more audiobooks narrated by her.

But I had some issues with the story.... It read like a discount ACOTAR, it even had some of the same EXACT plot points and twists. There were too many things in common for me to be comfortable, and it wasn't adding anything to that story. I don't think you can't have similar stories and do well, I just think this one didn't do a good enough job to stand on its own.

The main character was not asking the right questions. She's forced into this marriage and never once wonders what is my husband getting out of this. She also have this entire dreamscape that she doesn't question. Things just happened to her and she let them. I really like to see how she used her powers and how she dealt with the Fae attacking her. I wish the story would have focused more on her strengths and how dark she could be.

The romantic plot line feels like it wasn't really explored in this book. We get a hint at a few different love interests, but nothing really evolves past what you have in the beginning. I believe this story to be more of a setup for some better things to happen in the future.

There was also a weird comment about an aquiline nose being ugly that felt very antisemitic to me. The author clearly tried to be inclusive by having a hijab wearing Fae along with different skin tones and cultures in her magical world, but none of them really stayed in the story long enough or had any real impact on the book. It felt like she just threw them in last minute to be more inclusive, I would have liked to see some reason or affect they had on the world which shows that the author really did her research and was inclusive properly. And for a story that took place in the Unseelie Court there was no real discussion of sexuality and gender and how Fae would be accepting of all.

While I didn't love this book, I will saw the last two chapters hooked me. I think I would continue on, especially if I could be promised more the dark themes I saw at the ending.

Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape media for giving me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I received and ARC of the Fortuna Sworn audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This book is a mix of modern life and fantasy with an interesting magic system and lots of different types of magical beings. It follows Fortuna on her journey to recuse her brother from a faerie court. I will admit that the mix of modern life and fantasy wasn’t my favourite — I found it a bit difficult to imagine the two blending together. I also found the political structure and magic system a bit difficult to follow, but this could have been because I listened to the audiobook rather than read the physical book.

I enjoyed the narrators voice, I felt like it fit the character very well. I also appreciated that she didn’t do any cringey male voices. I find this is really common in audiobooks and it kind of ruins it for me — so this was definitely a plus!

I’m not usually a fan of the ‘hate your kind trope’ because I find it makes the MCs seem quite naive. This wasn’t exactly the case with Fortuna, however I did find her kind of bitchy. It make her hard to connect with. I will say I loved her type of magical being — I thought that was really badass and unique.

Overall, the book was an okay read. It kept me on my toes. There was a lot of mystery and I enjoyed trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I especially liked when certain things were revealed to explain some of the characters actions/motivations. The ending was very intriguing and left me wanting to know what it all means!

People who enjoy urban fantasy, hate your kind, marriage of convenience tropes, worlds full of different types magical beings and mystery should check it out! Just wasn’t for me unfortunately.

Meh. Character development and dialogue was lacking and scenes that were probably meant to me emotionally charged fell flat.
All of the characters voices sounded the same- there was no variation.
The concept that fae descended from fallen angels was interesting

I'm not a romance fan, but I do love the fae, so I decided to give this a try.
I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either.
I actually liked Fortuna and the King, but I think Laurie is my favorite character. I liked him enough to continue the series.
There isn't any world building, but I think that's understandable since it takes place mostly in the Unseelie Court.
I really liked the narrator.

I was lucky enough to listen to this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is an amazing book. I listen to a lot of urban fantasy books and this one is one of my favorites.

I’d say if you like the Toby Daye series by Seanan Mcguire or A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas - then you will almost certainly like this book.

The main character is named Fortuna Sworn and she’s a rare magical creature. Her story involves intrigue, action, suspense, and romance.

I don’t want to give too much away. She’s a woman with a mission that lets nothing get in her way. Absolutely nothing.

I highly recommend this book. And I noticed that K.J. Sutton wrote other books in the series. I intend to listen to them if they are available as audiobooks
