A great audiobook! My issue was more on the main character, as I found her very unlikeable. But the voice actor was fantastic!

Fun, f-d up!
I dont' really know what the author was going for but I pictures Rhys from ACOTAR mixed with a bit of Azriel, also from ACOTAR and the court of nightmares with an actual Nightmare. The "oh so impossible" tasks were ridiculously easy to the point of eyeroll. Will not be continuing this series.

I had seen a lot of recommendations for Fortuna Sworn on TikTok, and finally picked it up. And I am so glad I did! I did notice some similarities to other books (ACOTAR) but I feel like this one was just as good, if not better in my opinion.
Fortuna Sworn is a nightmare, and the last of her kind as her brother went missing 2 years ago. She blends in with the humans she lives among in Colorado, and one day, proof of life of her brother is given to her. She then drops everything to save him, which includes trusting a Faerie.
The rest of the book follows her as she does everything she can to save him.
I really enjoyed how this book was written. Just enough world building was included so I was not confused, and it was also included as new things showed up throughout the book-instead of all being in the first few chapters. There were also aspects of it that can occur in real life unlike other books I've read that are similar.
Overall, I rated Fortuna Sworn 4.5 out of 5. And I will be picking up the rest of the books in the series once they are published!

3.5/5 This book had so much potential. The world-building was a little confusing at times because there's a mix of an urban setting layered with fantasy which is hard to get used to. I really liked the setting for the majority of the book and the interesting characters but a lot of the second act felt derivative of A Court of Thorns and Roses. It definitely has its own elements but the trial felt kind of rushed. There was a lack of depth in a lot of the conflict, however I did really like the characters. Everyone is very morally grey and there are still twists and turns I didn't foresee. This was still a pretty enjoyable book and I will definitely be continuing the series because that ending?! I have questions! As always make sure to check the TWs, and thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this for my honest review!

Thanks Netgally for gifting me the audio book!!
I was pleasantly surprised by this story. The journey was not one I anticipated but welcomed with open arms. The concept of a nightmare is truly fascinating and K.J Sutton takes you on a wild ride as Fortuna searches for her brother.
K.J Sutton builds a modern world filled mythical with creatures, both good and bad. She writes a compelling story of Fortuna’s journey to save her brother, and man that twist! God damn!
I’m so excited to buy the physical copies of the sequels to this series because I’m hooked!

I absolutely devoured this book the first time I read it, and then was absolutely delighted to get to re-experience it in the form of an audiobook. I thought the narration was great!
Fortuna Sworn is the last of her kind - a literal nightmare. She hides among humans, as she would be killed by other magical creatures if they knew she existed. One night, her brother disappears, and Fortuna is left with no leads for two years. One night, she catches the eye of a powerful Fae, who drives a bargain with her: become his wife, and he'll take her to her brother.
I'm doing a horrible job of explaining this book, but it's SO good. Would 10/10 recommend.

Fortuna Sworn is a literal Nightmare, the last of her kind, hiding amongst humans and trying to get by. She is driven by the need to keep her brother safe no matter the cost, and this time, the cost may be more than she bargained for.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the Fae realm had incredible world building, h=the characters were wholly developed, and the tension was through the roof. I will most certainly be reading the rest of this series and am excited that I received a free audio copy from NetGalley, but all of these opinions are my own.

Fortuna Sworn by K.A. Sutton was a book I’ve heard so much buzz about and I was so excited to listen to it! Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me. It’s started off so strong but then things just didn’t make sense and I felt like I had missed something. It was like there were too many things left unexplained. Maybe we will get more answers in the next book, but I’m not sure if I will continue.
I am definitely in the minority on my feelings about this one, so I would say try it if it sounds good to you. The narration was really great and that’s a good way to go if your interested in this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook for an honest review.

Review time. Fortuna Sworn by K.J. Sutton was a good old sexy fae time, 4⭐️. Note, I received a copy of the audiobook via NetGalley to review.
I don’t know what it says about me that books like this are basically a comfort read for me… but ignoring any internal moral dilemmas that statement makes let’s talk Fortuna Sworn. Our home girl is hunting for her missing brother and refuses to give up and the trail leads her to becoming embroiled in fae politics. The audiobook narrator sounded so much like Imoen from Baldur’s Gate, it was uncanny and so fun!! She did an excellent job brining this story to life. No, this book did not bring me to tears or anything like that but sometimes I just want to have fun with what I read.
Do you like fear based magic? Sexy fairy dudes, sexy “imaginary” boyfriends? Trials? Court politics? Then my friend, this book is FOR YOU. This was just a good old time that brought back all my nostalgia feels for things like the Merry Gentry series, would highly recommend if you’re into sexy fae politics and want a good time.

i loved this book so i had high hopes for the audio as a re-listen. i had a harder time with the solo narrator and accent. this audio just personally wasn't for me

I was hyped for this books a few months ago when I saw a Youtuber talk about it with high praises. So to say I had high expectations is true. The bar was high and unfortunately perhaps too high because Fortuna Sworn didn't reach it even though it was an entertaining book.
What shocked me a bit was how rushed the beginning felt. One second we met the heroine, the next she's already mated with the hero. Like... what? Let us some time to care for them, to build the tension and develop the chemistry, please. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I never really got attached to them. However, Fortuna's power is interesting and I liked that she wanted to save her brother no matter what.
(Thank you for letting me read and review an ARC via Netgalley)

4.5 Stars
Thank you to NetGalley for approving an Audiobook Arc.
I really enjoyed this story as a whole. What is not to love about an angsty Fae story with lots of lies, scheming, and court politics. I think this book was set up quite well for the remainder of the books in this series and I am very curious to see what the Author does with these characters and the over all story arch. I really enjoyed Fortuna as a main character. But I found her stubbornness about her brother and his choices to be quite annoying. Other than that i was a solid very quick read and I am excited to move on with the rest of the series. They only get chunkier from here so we shall see if I love them or not.

Overall: 3.5 Stars
Audiobook: 4 Stars
First, the audiobook. I loved the narrator. I think she did a fabulous job of reading the book. I think it would have been nice to have more of a distinction of voices between the characters but this wasn’t something that really took away from the book.
THAT ENDING!!!!! I definitely need to read the next book ASAP.
I rated it 3.5 stars because I felt there were certain aspects of the book that could have been more developed. For instance, Fortuna’s trials to become queen. However, I loved the plot and the characters.
I still very much enjoyed it and plan to read the rest of the series.

I've been wanting to read this for awhile. My favorite book tuber "Becca & The Books" had been gushing about this series. I always wait to read a series until almost all the books are out so I don't forget anything and I can binge the whole series.
When this was available on audio on NetGalley I knew it was a sign.
This is a dark fairy romance. Fortuna is a nightmare. With one touch she can get in your head and know your worst nightmare and make you think they are coming true. She is the Nightmare. She is feisty, loyal, driven. Her brother has been for years and she's never given up hope in finding him. One night she gets taken and with other mystical beings they are set to be sold.
When a stranger knows there something different about her. Sets her free she doesn't know why but knows he is going to show back up wanting something. Turns out he's a fairy and knows where her brother is and will take her to him for a price.
She will move heaven and he'll to save her brother. But what will she have to give up to save him.
Thank you NetGalley for a chance to listen to the audio in exchange for my honest review.
I cant wait to jump onto the next one. I know I can't rush them since the series is on going. But can't wait!

Fortuna Sworn is a nightmare, one of the last of her kind. When the book opens up it gets straight into turmoil and drama. She is kidnapped and taken against her will to be traded/sold as a slave.
Throughout the book you get a glimpse of her friends in the human world where she works. It was hard for me to believe she truly cared for them because the brief encounters you get from them there isn't much built up in the story. It's a lot of "telling" and not showing.
She is looking for her brother who has been missing for a couple of years. Out of no where a faerie shows up and offers his assistance in exchange for something from her.
She is thrusted into this world of political intrigue, court diplomacy and the Faerie world. She is very resistant as she was brought up not to trust Faeries.
She finds her brother but then can't get him released because of some ancient rule. She undergoes trials in order to establish herself within the Unseelie court.
I truly loved where the story was going, I loved Fortuna's inner monologue she had and I loved how friendships/enemies/lovers is being set up.
What was very hard for me throughout the book was it seemed there were a lot of details left out where other details shined through. I felt like the world wasn't established well, the relationships/friendships she has really didn't have anything to "show" there was a lot of "I feel sad" but there were not actions to show that to the reader.
I also felt lost a few times during the audiobook because it wasn't developed or outlined well.
However, despite some of my reservations that I had while listening to the book, I am still going to pick up book 2 because I am very intrigued on where this story is going to go.

4/5 stars
I was listening to the audiobook so I think this helped with my enjoyment of it because I was listening to it at such a fast-paced but if I was reading the physical book I feel like I would have put it down so many times because Collith and Fortuna had this relationship that they both knew they were attracted to each other but neither of them wanted to say it. I honestly think that Fortuna thought that what she was doing was best for Damon but honestly, she should have let him stay with his capter (forgot his name) because you could see that Damon was sad when his capter died and when he was alive it looked like Damon actually loved him but then again it could just be a spell he has been put under because he had been stuck in the Unseelie court for so long. This book gave all of the emotions and even though this is not a thriller or anything I was scared at some points during the book and when you get to them you will know what I mean. Overall this book was a fun read to listen to and I will definitely be picking up the second book soon.

THIS👏🏼BOOK👏🏼IS l👏🏼HOT👏🏼AND👏🏼I👏🏼NEED👏🏼THE SECOND👏🏼ONE👏🏼NOW👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That’s not a very professional book review, but it’s how I feel. Fortuna Sworn is a nightmare—no, not a bad dream. A nightmare is a mystical creature that can read anyone’s deepest fears and make them seem real through a single touch. In an attempt to rescue her brother, she marries a fairy king and must complete difficult trials in order to claim the title of Queen of the Fairy kingdom.
Let me tell you: THIS BOOK IS HOT HOT HOT. But while its spiciness is definitely a plus, it’s also just a really good book. The plot keeps you interested. The characters are mysterious and intriguing. It ends on a total cliffhanger, and I audibly yelled “NOOOOOO” when it ended because I WANT MORE OF FORTUNA RIGHT NOW!!!!

First off, HUGE thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to the new Audiobook for Fortuna Sworn in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own!
Okay we will start with the audiobook aspect! I enjoyed the way this story was performed! I found the narration to be really well done, engaging, and felt like it really helped bring the story to life!
As for the book: wow! I didn’t expect to be hooked on this as quickly as I was! I can ABSOLUTELY see the Cruel Prince and ACOTAR connections, but make them New Adult and imagine Court of Nightmares Rhys as Collith! 😍 YES PLEASE!!!
I can’t wait to see what else happens in this story moving forward!
Okay, some slightly spoiler thoughts below:
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
My biggest complaint and the thing that kept this from being 5 stars is the ACOTAR connections, especially during the trials Fortuna went through were almost *too* similar. I was hoping for a bit more originality in that section but it’s not enough of a deterrent to keep me from moving forward with the series!

I received a gifted audiobook for FORTUNA SWORN by K.J. Sutton for an honest review. Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review!
FORTUNA SWORN follows the title character. Fortuna is a Nightmare, a supernatural capable of using one’s fears against them at a touch. She’s also the last of her kind after her brother, also a Nightmare, disappeared two years ago. Her promise to their mother to always take care of her brother weighs heavily on her mind. She is living in the human world, but is constantly on the look out for new leads.
A new lead comes up in the form of a faerie named Collith who says he knows where she can find her brother. Fortuna knows that the fae can’t be trusted and she’s wary of his offer to help her in exchange for her hand in marriage. Still, she feels she doesn’t have any choice but to agree because she is willing to sacrifice herself to save her brother.
I have been hearing about this series from several trusted sources for quite a while and I have participated in a few events on BookTube which have included the author, so my curiosity about the series has been peaked. The romance side of fantasy isn’t necessarily where I lean into my reading, but when I saw that the audiobook for FORTUNA SWORN was available on Netgalley, I decided that I needed to see what the hype was all about and I am very glad that I did!
This is the first book in a series, so there is definitely some setup being done, but the story really managed to hook me in right away. I found the writing and the depiction of the fae realm to be very atmospheric and I really liked the depiction of the protagonist’s struggle balancing her brother’s needs and her own. I also have really enjoyed learning about the different type of supernatural beings and their abilities and the politics of the realm.
I am really glad that I picked this one up! It has been described as being perfect for fans of ACOTAR and I do think that this is one I’d recommend to fans of that series!

Fortuna Sworn introduced me to the lore of Nightmares, and she is such a badass. She has strength, a clear motivation for her actions (even when she acknowledges that she is acting impulsively), and an unyielding will to survive and save her brother at any cost. Her kindness and capability for darkness are shown early in the book and all of her following actions are true to her character.
Though this book is a clear world-builder in what I am anticipating to be an amazing series, the action keeps you on the edge of your seat, wanting more. As I read I have more-and-more questions about this world and where we were going next, but I like that my answers were limited to Fortuna's own knowledge. We move as quickly through the fast-paced events as Fortuna does - with no time to breathe and consider the best course of action.
I have seen some reviews mention similarities between this book and books from other authors. It seems that we might be forgetting that many fantasy novels are inspired by the same lore, and aren't retellings of each other.
