Minus the unnecessary racism I really enjoyed this book. The sentences were completely not needed. I really didn't mind the age gap, which was a present surprise.

The trope of a one-night-stand turned into an awkward situation when the characters meet in the light of day has been done many times. But in Mistakes Were Made, Meryl Wilsner takes the trope and makes it sexy, emotional, and made up of well-rounded characters.

If you are seeking a woman/woman romance with good sex scenes, you will not be disappointed! Erin and Cassie find themselves drawn to each other even after swearing to never speak of their steamy night again. Erin is a mom who is trying to figure out how to make decisions about her own happiness and Cassie is about to go to grad school and has only had one relationship. They may appear mismatched, but soon form a strong emotional and physical connection.

We, as the readers, are given an in-depth view into their thinking as they figure out how to handle the situation. I loved reading their inner monologues and the perspective switches back and forth perfectly. I never felt like one character was ignored for too long or was given the spotlight too much. Fun, spicy read that will both entertain you and make your heart squeeze.

Rating: 4/5 stars

This was one of my first full novels with F/F romance and I quite liked it!

Cassie and Erin's love story was a bit forbidden and a whole lot messy but I really enjoyed the ups and downs of their relationship and how they managed to navigate their feelings for one another while also taking into consideration the fact that Erin's daughter was Cassie's best friend.

The chemistry between the two heroines was extremely spicy but also endearing. Erin definitely took on the motherly/older woman role at times but Cassie seemed so mature and confident that she never felt like she was too young or immature for an older woman. I loved the power dynamic between the two. They balanced each other out so well.

The steamy scenes in this book were extremely hot. It was detailed at times with a lot of heat and other times it was just enough to get the point across and move on. Lack of description and detail is one of the biggest issues I've found in F/F stories and Meryl Wilsner navigated it perfectly.

I don't usually care for 3rd person POV but it really worked here. The writing and internal dialogue was so well done that I barely noticed.

Meryl Wilsner is back with another delightful romance! If you are at all concerned about the age difference thing, please don't be! It's a very lovely romance!!

I love mess, and MISTAKES WERE MADE delivers it in the best way!

Almost 40-year-old Erin is visiting her daughter at college for Family Weekend. While her daughter is out having dinner with her ex-husband, she takes herself to a local bar. She meets, flirts with, and leaves to hook up with Cassie. And soon after, Erin not only discovers that Cassie is in college (thankfully a senior) but also BEST FRIENDS with her daughter, a freshman. Oops. While that one night was supposed to be the end of their relationship, of course, it's not. Thrown together again, they continue to hook up behind Erin's daughter's back and begin to develop deep feelings for one another.

This novel was surprisingly grounded and heartfelt, despite all the potential for drama. Both Cassie and Erin were sympathetic and dynamic. And Meryl managed to show how and why these two women are good for each other--not something all romances accomplish. Because of this, the resolution felt believable and earned. I'm excited to read more from Meryl Wilsner.

This could not have been more different from Wilsner's previous novel. Where that one was all plot and hardly any romance, this one is all romance and hardly any plot.
The romance is solid. Cassie and Erin are likeable leads with crazy chemistry, and their romance manages to be fast and slow burn at the same time.
Unfortunately, the rest of the book is not as strong. The side characters are flimsy, and even the leads don't feel fully realized outside of their relationship with each other. The plot is full of contrivances so that the leads can justify spending time with each other.
But none of those things ended up bothering me too much. I acknowledge the flaws that it has, and I would have liked the writing to be more polished, but I was just along for the ride and happy with what I could get.

The MILF book!

******************Some Spoilers Ahead***********************

Thank you so much @netgalley, for allowing me to read and review this ARC of Mistakes Were Made! Ever since I started seeing reviews and descriptions of this book, I have been dying to get my hands on it.

Cassie goes to a bar on family weekend and ends up meeting Erin, a much older beautiful woman. They hit it off and end up having a pretty spicy initial encounter without knowing anything about the other person. Erin then figures out that Cassie is actually a student at her daughter's school and decides right then and there that is was a mistake and will never happen again. Yet when she meets her daughter Parker in the morning for breakfast who does she have in tow…. Cassie, who she considers one of her best friends. So what do Cassie and Erin do now? Come clean? Pretend it never happened? What they don’t realize is how much they cannot indeed resist each other and what those feelings will make them do.

I will say, in my opinion, this book did not disappoint (If you can get past the age gap/dating your bffs mom in secret situation). This was a tremendous spicy sapphic romance that will make you envy the relationship the MCs have. This is the first book with a lot of spicy scenes that I feel were well written and not super “cringy”. I really enjoyed the way the MCs relationship developed (even though Cassie did seem a bit immature at times) and how it all came to an end. One of my top sapphic romances I have read so far this year!

Steamy romance with a twist . . .

What would you do if you accidentally hooked up with your best friends mom? What if she might she be the one?

This was an interesting story that kept you thinking about what would happen next. But I found that it really dragged out and was a little repetitive. Interesting read, but not safe for the youngins!

I am the most critical of sapphic romance, and there is no exception with this novel.
Don't get me wrong. This novel starts out with a bang... Literally, the two protagonists hook up in a car after meeting at a bar. If you are looking for spice, you may have found the sapphic romance for you. If you are looking for a genuine connection? That's up for debate...I really just don't think this book was for me, but whoever is reading this may absolutely love it.
My problem with Erin and Cassie's "romance" isn't the fact that Erin is Cassie's best friend's mom. I just struggled to feel like there was anything between these two other than insta-lust. When reflecting in preparation for this review, I had to seriously think about anything these two characters had in common... aside from Erin being Parker's mother and Parker being Cassie best friend. Parker's character is really the only aspect they had in common IMO.
I feel like this book was supposed to make me worry about Parker discovering Cassie and Erin's relationship, and I honestly couldn't have cared less. Parker was so spoiled and insufferable at times it was hard to feel sorry for her that two important people in her life were lying to her. IMO this novel would have been strengthened if Parker was a likable, sugary-sweet side character that I rooted for.
Now for the main characters... Despite being super intellectual and being independent at a young age, Cassie just seemed so immature to me. On the other hand, I could relate to Erin's anxiety regarding how people see her. I liked how Erin's anxiety was not downplayed, and she openly went to therapy to work through self-confidence issues. Yet, Cassie immaturity really had me thinking what Erin saw in her other than attraction. The characters just felt like they were in two different places in life: emotionally, geographically, career-wise. All of these factors made it challenging to me to see this relationship as anything other than mutual gratification.

It was really good from what I could read of it, but it expired before I could finish the rest of it.

This book started out with a bang, literally, when Erin and Cassie meet in a bar and end up in what was supposed to be a one night stand. When it comes to light that Cassie is Erin’s daughter’s best friend, it becomes awkward both characters. I enjoyed the book as an intense internal struggle between these two women coming to terms with their attraction, age gap, and the fact that one is the mother of the other’s best friend, but at times the book felt overly hung up on forcing situations to make it awkward and full of angst.

I love love loved this book! Age gap romances usually aren’t my thing, but they’re significantly less creepy when they’re sapphic. Cassie and Erin’s love story was so fun to read and it felt very realistic and earnest. Highly recommend!

This is not a book I would EVER have picked up on my own but I wanted to try something new! Just a disclaimer, I am a straight woman so I can’t speak for how accurate the experiences of the characters are. I felt like it gave a good representation based on what I read, however. I loved this milf book and I would totally recommend it!

This book was everything I didn’t know I needed it to be. The only thing I really knew going into it was “the lesbian milf book” but I left after meeting the character I related to more than any I’ve ever met. The story developed so naturally and was paced so well that you never got jolted out of the book. The relationships between the characters and their trauma and anxieties was so beautifully written. I cannot recommend this book enough. I’ve already got three friends to pre-order it and look forward to covering in our sapphic book club later this year.

**Thank you for the ARC. All opinions are completely my own.**

3-3.5 stars. Mediocre, bland, and not all that.

I'll be honest - this was a mediocre read. As others have noted, this book starts off with a bang and quite the intriguing premise. We’re told that there was palpable chemistry and tension between Erin and Cassie.

However, the book slows down and starts to get quite cluttered. We get chapter after chapter of the two doubting their relationship and being very wishy washy about the whole thing. Although it was realistic, the emotional aspect just started bogging down the whole story.

The side characters were, well, just that. They were JUST side characters. And nobody seemed to react realistically to the relationship, either. I mean, honestly!

I would have liked to see the plot being more snappy and fast paced. I also would have liked to see some humor - seriously, it was just so dry!

TLDR; A mediocre read. Feel free to pass on this one.

When I read the synopsis I knew I wanted to read this book, even if it wasn’t what I would typically read. Unfortunately, staying inside of your comfort zone is okay sometimes, because this didn’t work out for me.
I couldn’t find myself connect to the characters or the storyline and I wasn’t interested enough in it to continue reading.
That being said, I think this is because books like these are not made for me, but if this sounds like a book you would like, you should 100% give it a go.

I thought this book was good. It got off to quite a slow start but certainly worth sticking with if you want a nice easy romance. I wish we had more queer representation like this in novels.

This book started off with a bang...and it was a wild ride the whole way through. Wilsner did not hold back so there was a LOT of spice.

I don't usually enjoy age gap romances, and there were a few points in this book where I thought I was going to have to DNF because I was struggling with it, but I'm glad I got through it to the end. There were some things that were predictable of a modern day WLW rom com, but it was great to see Erin and Cassie grow as separate people as well as together (even if they weren't "dating"). Erin's past has made it hard for her to give herself the ability to do things that she wants to just because she wants to, and Cassie helps her reclaim that. Cassie hasn't really had a lot of people in her life believe in her or love her, so there is a wonderful "found family" element to this book, and I truly love that trope.

All in all, a pretty solid read.

Mistakes Were Made, aka "The MILF book" is a bit different than I was expecting, so it is hard for me to rate. I would say this book was around a 3.5 for me, but I'm going to round up. I went in expecting a rom-com, and while there was both romance and some comedy, it was more sex than romance overall. I'm not discounting the sex scenes- they were plentiful, varied, and steamy - but I was hoping for a bit more relationship development overall.

What I liked: The characters, particularly Cassie and Erin, were fully developed characters with their own hangups, desires, backgrounds, etc. The quality of the writing was very good. The romance in the second half of the book was what I was looking for in the book. The ending- no spoilers, but I liked that the story was tied up and not left unresolved.

What I wasn't so crazy about: The supporting characters could have been more fleshed out and would have added more to the story that way. Parker, Erin's daughter, definitely could have been more of the story as she was one of the main obstacles to the romance in the book. The romance, while lovely when it occurred, didn't really coalesce until the second half of the book. Before that, it was largely just spicy scenes and angst.

This is definitely worth a try if you're looking for a steamy Sapphic read.

I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
