I will read anything Meryl Wilsner writes. This funny, steamy forbidden age-gap romcom has so much to love about it, but I really appreciated how realistic the issues were in this MILF relationship! I could not put this book down, and have been recommending it to all my friends.
Thanks to St. MArtin's and NetGalley for the copy to review.
Not the type of book i would normally read but this turned out to be a sexy, emotional, beautiful story about two women who find love after everyone has been telling them they shouldn’t. They decide to choose each other and themselves against all odds. It is also VERY steamy!!
I thought this book was fine. I didn't love it like most people did. There were plenty of steamy scenes in the book...but I didn't feel like there was a huge connection between Erin and Cassie. I also didn't connect well with the characters. The only one I really liked was Acacia.
The plot was just hard for me too. I don't want to give anything away...it just wasn't for me.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy in exchange for my honest review.
The sapphics are thriving!
This was surprisingly sweet and unsurprisingly raunchy as all hell. This book is tightly-plotted, steamy, and all-around delightful. The taboo really is not that taboo-y (which is how I like it, if I'm honest), but it was fun and emotional and all-around satisfying.
Thanks to St. Martin's and NetGalley for the ARC.
I can’t believe it took me so long to finally read this.
What went from funny and steamy, with me playing Stacy’s Mom because I couldn’t get the song out of my head (gee I wonder why) definitely shifts into a more emotional story that had me rooting for the main characters’ HEAs
Was this spicy? Yes. Was it for me? No. I’m all for the sapphic, age gap romance. But I can’t get over the whole best friend’s mom thing. Who goes there with their BFF’s mom!? Otherwise, a well written and spicy book.
Mistakes Were Made had me on the edge of my seat with nervous energy! Cassie hooks up with a gorgeous woman at the bar and she ends up being…her FRIEND’S MOM! They had great chemistry but I was so nervous for them to get caught! I think that made it a good book! I was just as nervous as they were for Erin’s daughter to find out.
All in all it was an entertaining, steamy read with a lot of heart! I will def be reading more from this author in the future!
Well, I finally read the milf book! I had a really great time with this story, despite some initial hesitations that I’ll mention later. Both of our main characters, Cassie and Erin, were well developed and fun to read from and I adored the progression of their relationship from a hook up to an ‘oh shit!’ moment to something really tender and full of feeling. Their chemistry was, of course, brilliant and the sex scenes were well written with an obvious passion. It wasn’t just the steamy scenes that were well written — I was immediately hooked by Wilsner’s writing and flew through this book over just a couple of days.
I was a bit hesitant going into Mistakes Were Made as age gaps have never really been my thing in books but, as it turns out, when the age gap is sapphic and the love interest is a milf, it’s a lot more enjoyable! Joking aside, I really enjoyed the way this age gap was written and I think part of that is getting both Cassie and Erin’s perspective and knowing that they were both equally committed and attracted to one another. I also appreciated in this sense that the age gap and relationship dynamic were acknowledged as something that could be problematic but both characters (especially Cassie) made it clear that, in this case, it wasn’t. This was a continual process throughout the book which meant that everything was properly addressed and the characters had time to work through their feelings about it, particularly Erin who was aware of how the power dynamic favoured her. It really settled me more in the book and allowed me to enjoy and root for the romance a lot more than previous age gap romances I’ve read, including a sapphic one!
If you want a tender book about horny messes and milfs with a side helping of learning to put yourself first and growing into yourself as a new adult finishing college, then I highly recommend you pick up this book! After so thoroughly enjoying Mistakes Were Made, I am eagerly awaiting Cleat Cute, Wilsner’s next sapphic romance, and will be looking out for their future work!
This was just the perfect book for me! I adored this book so much. I adored the romance in this book, it was so sweet and it just melted my heart so much. Plus this was super hot, which is always a bonus in my book.
This was just the perfect book for me, I enjoyed reading this book so much.
This was everything I wanted! I loved the longing and forbiddenness of dating a friends mom. I also loved all the side characters, especially Acacia, she's the friend of the year.
It was so close to a full 5. But the ending didn't have enough emotion for my personal liking
I’m not sure if it’s the age gap trope or miscommunication trope but I didn’t love this. I hate when people don’t talk about things. I’m sure there’s people out there who like the miscommunication but I’m not one of them. It honestly angers me. I hate it.
I enjoyed the writing which is why I pushed through the plot.
I found some parts uncomfortable though. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom. I’m not sure. This isn’t the first age gap romance I’ve read but some of the things said gave me the ick.
I liked the book enough it just wasn’t my favorite.
Honestly this book was not my favorite it took me forever to get into it. It actually took me so long to read this book, and I really wanted to like it. I don’t see many books with this plot line so I was really rooting for it in the beginning, and I am a huge fan of LGBTQ + novels, I just don’t think this one was for me necessarily.
Really liked this one! It was spicy and had a storyline I had not read before (girl has a one night stand with her best friends mom, which turns into something more). It was great on audio! This one has lots of 🔥🔥
This one didn't work for me but it was more about my tastes, which is a shame because I had high hopes I'd love this one. A couple of the major plot lines that the whole romance developed on and evolved along just gave me major icks. And it wasn't anything I was ever able to overlook for the sake of the story or the characters. Just made me feel uncomfortable.
Widely touted as "the MILF book," this one did not disappoint. I'm not usually a fan of age gap romances, but this one really got me and that's how you know it's good. I mean, the first chapter features sex in a car...and there's a shower sex scene...Cassie and Erin are very hot, but also very sweet and support each other in ways that are just so beautiful and loving. Big fan.
I wont lie when I read the synopsis for this I became FERAL for it!!! I went in with high expectations and I'm here to say they were blown out of the park!!!!! Like holy shit this age gap sapphic "opps your my daughter roommate" masterpiece was incredible. Erin and Cassie were the best horn dogs to ever live. I loved every second!!!
THIS WAS SO GOOD. It is the sapphic age-gap romance of my dreams. At times our MC Cassie, senior in college, is a little unbelievable but maybe I'm used to people writing college students who are less self-assured. This was surprisingly spicy, and I love that we can help break the stigma of older female characters in romance books! It is kind of wild to think that if this was a college student falling in love and sleeping with her best friends' father, I would have run the opposite direction - consent can really feel dubious in stories that have already been written with that trope. But here author Meryl Wilsner puts consent and desire front and center, so it was truly refreshing. I loved this one and I'm so sad that I took so long to get to it!
I really enjoyed this sapphic rom com, and an age gap might be a new favorite trope because of it! The steam level was perfect, as was the banter, I only wish I'd felt the connection between the characters a bit more. Something about it felt unrealistic. Aside from that, this is a very worthwhile romance to add to your TBR.
Prepare yourself for (gentle) bisexual chaos. I laughed so hard, I cried. I cried so hard, I laughed. This was the most beautifully messy thing I’ve ever read. Alternating from wholesome, gentle yearning to unbelievably thirsty in no seconds flat, Meryl’s sophomore novel has all the banter you could ever need in a novel, and some of the most healing passages to boot. Make no mistake (pun not intended), the author who brought you the slowest burn in their debut is also very capable of bringing spice to every other page. Utterly delightful.
This was great! I loved the representation and I think it was a beautiful story about two women falling in love. Admittedly it’s not something I would normally read, given that it features a girl and her best friend’s mom. That kind of dynamic isn’t typically for me, but I think it was done well here and I was able to forget about the age gap. Overall, I would recommend this to just about anyone.
