I liked this domestic thriller since it was intense and intriguing, but I didn't like the way it ended. I still would highly recommend that people read this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for this copy.

Matthew’s death – stabbed at the dinner table – is revealed in the opening sentence and this is perhaps one problem with this novel. What could have been a thrill seeking- build up of tension where the reader questioned the characters simply wasn’t. We knew the outcome right out of the gate! I agree with the premise that this is a thriller but knowing that there is a murder but the whole story is far too complicated.

As you read on you will meet Charlie and Matthew, a perfect same sex couple who live with their adopted son Titus.
When they run into new neighbor Rachel in the supermarket, the spur of the moment invitation for her to come over for dinner sets off a chain of events that no one could predict.
The timeline is anything but linear going backward and forward as the plot dictated, the murder being the central point around which everything else is told. The two narrators are Charlie and Rachel- It felt like reading a novel that had been seriously overplanned – And yet the character twists and developments – which were huge – were completely unprepared for if that makes sense. This is a long one as well- so buckle in for taking the time to really delve in.

When Charlie and Matthew find themselves having to include the young woman they’ve just met into their inner circle, it all seems a bit sudden and off-putting to Charlie. Matthew, on the other hand, welcomes Rachel and has no problem including her—almost as if she were family. So what’s the story here? Very unique storyline, and although there are some holes, it’s still very much worth the read. Un-put-down-able!

I was so hooked after reading the first page of the story, I was unable to put it down and read it in one sitting. The Dinner Guest is bold and shocking and the impact of the first few paragraphs really stayed with me. I loved the way this book was so unexpected and unique. The initial murder was interesting, the characters were strong, and the story itself was compelling and addictive with the narrative split between the murder and the events of the past year leading up to it. This is a fresh and interesting psychological thriller from an author I am keen to read more from in the future.

This was so bogged down with overly worded passages I wanted to rip my hair out. I loathed ever character. The ending was so disappointing.

Immediately no. Characters were horrible, I didn’t need to know the sexual exploits of a minor and a constant reminder of how rich these goons were. Writing was bad, story was dull.

Good book! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! This book had suspense, intrigue, and a great who don't it surprise! Th storyline was very interesting it did take a minute to get there, and at one point one of the main characters said" I know whats going on now, I know what I have to do!" And I just yelled at my Kindle " I'm glad you know!! Because I sure as hel don't! Lmao I was getting a little impatient! But it is a great read I definitely will recommend reading this book! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I have mixed feelings after reading this story. It was interesting yet very long. Everything was dragged out without any contribution to the story overall. It did nothing to add to the characters' lives or development within the story. Additionally, characters were added to the end of the story to explain what should have been done in the middle of the story. The character's development was steady and good. However; the overall reason was childish and it was let down.

I agree with the premise that this is a nerve shredding thriller. You know that there is a murder and there is even admitted murderer! But the whole story is far too complicated to explain in chapter one.

As you read on you will meet Charlie and Matthew, a perfect couple who live with their adopted son Titus.
When they run into new neighbor Rachel in the supermarket, the spur of the moment invitation for her to come over sets off a chain of events that no one could predict.

Read on to learn more about this web of deceit in a beautiful area of London. I challenge you to solve the murder before the end! #TheDinnerGuest #Harper360 #NetGalley #NetGalleyReads

Unlikable characters, a story that’s different to work through due to that. There are some interesting twists it wasn’t enough to keep me entertained.

3.5🌟 right off the bat, the story kicks off and lets us know that everything is not what it seems. at first, I thought that this structure could cause it to be too predictable, but I appreciated that the author kept giving small reveals throughout to add more twists and turns to the story. There was potential with the way that class was included here, but it was only sprinkled in with little comments here and there, nothing further. overall, still a fun twisty ride, but could’ve gone further!

*thank you to netgalley & one more chapter for the ebook!

This book was very twisty at times, so much so that I struggled with understanding what was going on at the end. Maybe it would have been different if it was in print versus audiobook. As a whole, I would recommend this book however, because there were parts that were pretty shocking and I was invested in the characters.

An unpleasant book that started off very slowly and was filled exclusively with characters so unlikeable that I didn’t really care about the outcome. There were lots of twists, but none were very compelling, and the book ended with a thud.

I wasn't a huge fan of this one.

Thrillers are great when they make sense, but almost every plot twist in The Dinner Guest felt overly telegraphed or completely improbable, sometimes both at the same time. It also is yet another novel that falls into the trope of "bisexual who can't stay loyal to their partner" which is frankly getting very old. You can write a bisexual character without them feeling the need to be a cheater and liar. That's hardly the biggest issue with the book, but it sticks out.

The real issue is that not a single character is likable or someone you want to be in the head of. Charlie, Titus, Rachel, and Matthew are all terrible and not a single person comes out of this novel feeling like they don't deserve to be punished in some way or another. That may have been the point but coupling them being terrible people there's also a lot of talk about their politics and how they view other people when there's really no concrete answer of how that all factors in to the actual murder.
