#The South Bank Murders
by #Biba Pearce
This is the 5th book in the series involving DCI Rob Miller and his team working in Homicide and Serious Crime Command in Putney.
One evening he gets a call from his retired boss and friend for help but is stuck at home nursing his new baby son. He later receives a call from the duty officer that his former boss has been shot dead in a Thai restaurant. Rob rushes to the crime scene disbelieving it could be him.
I immediately liked the character of the DCI. Gentle at home with his family. Liked and respected by his team and was uncompromising in his job. He is determined to take over the case but his bosses see it differently.
The action picks up when a body of a young man is discovered in the mud of the Thames and Rob and his team is allocated the investigation. Going against orders they continue to investigate the murder of the ex-Chief Superintendent in secret.
There is plenty of fast-paced action and it carries the story along well.
The bodies continue to mount up and the pace ramps up quickly.
I thought it a thoroughly enjoyable read with believable characters. It's well written and I read it as a stand-alone story without knowledge of the previous four books in the series. It was un-put-downable and I will certainly add the author to my must-read list.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks for my ARC of #TheSouthBankMurders in exchange for an honest review.
This mystery is a true police procedural! I was fascinated to learn all of the "behind-the-scenes" detail about police investigation and clearances required to proceed. This is part of a series but enough information was given so I felt up to speed. The bits of backstory are given efficiently as well, not just a recitation of what has come before. Very interesting mystery and I will be checking out the earlier books in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
The South Bank Murders, by Biba Pearce, is a fast paced police suspense with heart. I liked that there's a nice focus on family throughout the book. The main characters are all likeable and fairly interesting, as well.
Detective Rob Miller's friend, Chief Superintendent Lawrence, has been brutally murdered while meeting with one of his previous informants. He's beyond upset over his and his department's loss so he and his team are ready to get to work and find the killer despite his boss telling him to stand down on this one.
Now the bodies are starting to pile up around town, as well as at the precinct and they're all starting to look like professional killings. The team realizes that finding whoever is behind their chief's murder is the key to putting a stop to anymore killings.
DCI Rob once again is faced with cases to solve with the help of his team.
When a close friend of Rob is murdered, he wants to find the person who did it.
The plot and series are excellent, bringing the reader alone to find
the clues. Given ARC by Net Galley and Joffe for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
I made a mistake with this book, as I should not have read it without have read the earlier ones by this author, then I might have had a better insight into the characters she portrays. Not, however, that it took anything away from the story.
This was a book I really enjoyed and I will now get Biba’s previous ones, as well as adding her to my list of authors.
If you have read her previous books you will, I imagine, know what to expect. Good story line, and characters, making it one to recommend.
So, now to get those previous titles!
Great new author for me to add to my list. Thrilling plot and characters. Would recommend to others.
This is Detective Rob Miller #5 but can easily be read as a standalone.
Biba Pearce has very quickly become one of my favourite authors and I wait in anticipation for each new book!
DCI Rob Miller’s recently retired boss, DCS Sam Lawrence, is shot in a restaurant along with two other people. After the initial shock at losing a great friend and mentor, Rob is determined to find out who is responsible. His current boss doesn’t want him to handle the case as he and his team are too close to the victim but, while they’re waiting to find out if they can take the case, the body of a young boy washes up in the river. The team starts investigating and then discover both a connection between the two deaths, and another body.
There is just enough personal information for the reader to get to know the characters without detracting from the storyline. The characters and the events are totally believable. I honestly stayed awake until 3am to finish this as I just couldn’t put it down, having been hooked right from the first few pages.
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
Detective Rob Miller #5
When a close friend is shot and killed, Rob and the team go off-book in an attempt to hunt down the killer. This homicide pitches them against their most powerful adversary yet - one who will stop at nothing to see them fail.
What a great book this was. Rob's friend has been murdered but Rob and his team aren't allowed to investigate. A young mans body has been washed up in a river, Rob and his team are given this case to solve, but they want to help solve the murder of their friend too. There's plenty going on in this book. Just the right amount so that you don't get lost in it. It's well written, the characters are well developed and believable. Although this book is part of a series, it could be read as a standalone.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
I thought this book was a very enjoyable read and an excellent addition to a great series. I think the author has created a really likeable and believable character with her main character DCI Rob Miller and portrays him very realistically. The book started got off to a great start off with the DCI and his team investigating a number of murders where they know one of the victims. The author grabbed my attention from the first page and held it all the way through. I found this to be a very well written and engaging read, it was fast paced and just got better the more I read. I really like the authors writing style, loved all the separate story threads and felt the author really connected with me through her characters and writing. There were lots of twists which I loved and the last part of the book was brilliantly written where the author really upped the pace. The story raced to a thrilling end with all loose ends tied up. Overall a great read, one which I can’t fault and I look forward to the next book. I would recommend this if you like police procedurals and would say start with book 1 and read the books in order so you get to know DCI Miller and his history.
Disturbing Crimes…
The fifth in the Detective Rob Miller series of mysteries finds Rob amidst tragedy as news of a killing emerges. As he investigates a series of further disturbing crimes emerge to muddy the waters. Suspenseful and rapidly paced with a credible cast and an engaging and immersive narrative this is a solid read and a worthy addition to the series.
The South Bank Murders is one of those books you pick up and will not be able to put down until the very end.
It is an emotional suspenseful thriller about a killer and the need for revenge. Detective Rob Miller needs to find out who killed his friend and mentor. But as he digs deeper into the case he realizes the two new murders might just be related and one name keeps popping up - that of Wolf.
A definite page-turner!!
An enjoyable story with some very credible characters. Living in Kent we get a lot of information on refugees coming into the country via the channel and seeing the children on there own is heartbreaking. How did a killer know where a retired police superintendent was going to be in order to kill him and others there too? That's Rob's first problem, but there are more to come, affecting his home life too.
Loved it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Joffe Books, I read a free advance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion.
Thank you NetGalley and Severn House for the eARC.
Detective Rob Miller and Jo, his partner are suffering the effects of sleepless nights thanks their newborn son, but Rob catches a very important case: the murder of his previous boss and mentor, Chief Inspector Lawrence. He's determined to catch the killer, sleep or no sleep. More murders occur, including two young boys who were forced to work for a serious gang who deal drugs and traffic young girls and boys.
This was a pretty good book, full of action and a surprising ending when he finally catches the man responsible, aka The Wolf, a man everyone is terrified of.
Great book! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, great police work and a great who done it! The storyline was very interesting, it flowed nicely and kept me glued to my kindle from start to finish! I highly recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
