Mike and Susan, married for 40 years, die in a tragic car crash. That same day, Zach survives a horrific accident and becomes the recipient of a new heart. Somewhere in the same hospital, Chloe receives a heart transplant that she has been desperately waiting for. Neither Zach nor Chloe know that their hearts are linked, and that they must find one another in order to once again be whole.

The description of this novel was intriguing. It sounded like the type of story that would draw the reader in and allow them to feel the loss, heartache, and love right along with the characters. I was hoping that it would feel almost magical - the draw of two young people toward each other because their hearts belonged as a couple. While I did enjoy the story, I sadly did not love it the way I expected to. The depth of the characters was lacking, making it difficult to truly connect with them. I liked Susan, Mike, Zach, and Chloe and I was rooting for them all. However, it would have been nice if Zach and Chloe had more to their personalities.

I almost stopped reading this novel partway in. I was so disturbed by how Zach was injured, and the detail in which it was described, that I wasn't sure I wanted to keep reading. It felt as if part of a horror story had made its way into a love story by error. I believe that aspect of the book was part of what kept me from ever fully connecting to the characters.

I'm glad that I continued reading and completed this novel as it was a sweet story overall. The writing style was easy to read and the chapters were the perfect length to keep wanting to read "just one more". I also enjoyed the fact that the novel was told from the viewpoints of the four main characters and not just one person. I will most likely read another novel by this author as she has others out that also sound enjoyable.

THE CRASH by CATHERINE MILLER

After forty years together, teenage sweethearts Mike and Susan are tragically killed in a car crash.

Zack endures a freak accident, that sees him fatally wounded, but a donor heart could save him.

Chloe has had a weak heart all her life, but just as her own heart is ready to give up, a donor heart becomes available.

The Crash, tells the story of Mike and Susan’s last chapter together as they depart this world.
Still here, with new hearts, Zack and Chloe have to recover and learn to live a new life, but in order to move forward, they both need to listen to their hearts.

I loved the whole idea of this book. The story is unique and I certainly didn’t feel like I had read anything like it before.

On the whole, I liked the characters. At times I wanted to give Zack a shake, but he was a real sweetie at heart.
I loved the friendship between Zack and Larry. We could all do with a Larry in our lives.

This story is beautifully written and flows effortlessly.
It’s full of love, friendship, grief, heartache, hope and happiness.

If you fancy a love story, with a bit of a difference, The Crash, definitely delivers.

A tender story of love, loss and hope.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Crash deals with the aftermath of a car crash and organ donation. The story is a bit slow going at times though definitely a heartwarming and heartbreaking read.
The main characters are Susan and Mike who are the donors and Zack and Chloe who are the recipients.
The story goes between the past and present giving important insight into what exactly happens to set everything in motion.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you #netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
I am a big fan of Catherine Miller books, they have so much detail and emotional intelligence in them.
The Crash follows 4 people and their family and friends on different stages of their journeys that lead them together. I was hooked within the first 3 chapters and needed tissues throughout. Some things in life defy logic and this is something Zak and Chloe have to navigate. I really cant and don't want to say more, as the story is best read in its purest form without prior insight. I fully recommend this thought provoking book. It's even got me digging out an old song by Feargal Sharkey - A good Heart. I dont think I have read a book quite like it. The book and Catherine deserve all the accolades coming its way.

Louisa’s husband died in a car accident. Since then she has not been coping either financially or with her emotions.

Her daughter and son-in-law have bought a guest house by the seaside and Louisa moves in with them. Her friend and colleague gives her an opportunity to write a story on Isaac, a sand artist. When she meets him, there’s something that she finds familiar.

Getting to know the area and hidden places together, Louisa is laughing again, something that she thought she’d do again, she’s captivated by him, his sculptures on the shoreline.

But, she’s thinking that he’s not being entirely honest with her, and comes across something that connects him to her husband’s death.

The story was so well written, heartbreaking at times, but kept you hooked, unable to put it down.

Highly Recommend This Book.

The description of The Crash had me intrigued as it is not my normal type of book and so I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it or not but it was a beautifully, emotional story which touched on sensitive topics and it really drew me in.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

I've now read 3 books by Catherine Miller and each has it's own unique story unlike everything I've ever read before.

This story covers a sensitive and emotional topic of organ donation. It's an emotional story, a thought-provoking story but such a special story as well. I truly fell in love with Susan and Mike as well as Zack and Chloe.

I dont really know how to review this book and get across in words just how absolutely brilliant it was, all I will say is that it is a "must read"

I am super stingy with my stars, so for this to rate 5, it says a lot. I can totally see this as a Netflix series or even a Hallmark movie. I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want it to end.
Mike and Susan are school sweethearts that are about to celebrate 40 years of marriage. As their marriage has gone on, they’ve become more distant and living as roommates more than lovers. As their anniversary approaches, Susan decides to give it one last go and book them a holiday away and see if there’s anything left to rekindle or if it’s time to pack it in.
Zack is a good old boy who’s had his heart broken figuratively and literally-he was injured in a freak accident that required a transplant not long after his ex messed with his heart and he hadn’t fully recovered.
Chloe has been in and out of hospital all her life after being born with a heart defect. Her sisters are super protective over her, especially after their parents passed away when they were younger.
While on their way back from the cruise, ready to start rebuilding their lives together, Mike and Susan die in a crash that no one could have predicted and it changed everything for everyone, including Zack and Chloe.
Are Zack and Chloe connected by their donor hearts? They don’t realize how connected they are until they are apart and all their hearts want to do is be together again.
Each chapter is told from the POV of the various characters and is so well written, so emotional and heartfelt, I couldn’t stop reading. I read it all in one sitting. It really makes you think about making every moment count.

Mike and Susan meet at a dance at the end of high school. It is love at first dance and they've been together ever since. But Susan is fed up with all the time Mile spends in his work shop. She plans a weekend away in hopes of rekindling what they once shared.

Chloe has had a heart condition her entire life and is starting to fail.
Zack is a healthy young man until the accident that he shouldn't survive.

Four people, two hearts.

If you don't believe that a donor heart can transfer some memories and feelings to a new body, then this book may change your mind. Although this is fiction, for the most part it felt real.

The characters are real and flawed.
An emotional roller coaster at times.
I really liked the concept of this story and the story itself did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc.

Heart memory. If suddenly life ceased to exist but the heart found another home, would it seek out its partner from this former life? Will someone completely new find themselves haunted by the dreams of a life that they haven’t lived? Can a pair of stubborn hearts get their second chance at life?

"We’re only going to get this moment once."

Mike and Susan have been together for almost forty years now but they’re having troubles now and all is not as good as it always had been. While an accident leaves things unresolved in the death way, their hearts give new life to two people who somehow find their way to each other without knowing why. Multiple perspectives and a dual timeline allows the story to unravel gradually and as promised, definitely makes the story a heartbreaking page-turner.

"We all have to be individuals even when we are in a couple."

I have read several books by this author before and I was looking forward to reading this one too. The idea of cellular memory is an intriguing one, indeed, and one that I don't think you can dismiss out of hand.

Chloe and Zack were both recipients of heart transplants. Susan and Mike were the donors. So, how come Chloe and Zack feel a connection with each other when there shouldn't really be one? Zack is determined to figure out why he needs to hang around at the hospital, for no particular reason. And Chloe feels better when she is near him. But, how confusing is this?? They will figure it out.....somehow or another.

I liked the story, but I didn't love it, and this surprised me somewhat, it has to be said. I didn't really like Zack all that much, despite him being one of the "good guys". I wasn't all that keen on Chloe's sisters either, despite them being caring people who cared a great deal about Chloe. I liked Chloe but I think it would have been nice to learn a little more about her art. I guess generally, I felt like I needed to get to know ALL the characters in a bit more depth. I just wasn't as emotionally invested as I thought I would be.

So, 4 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

The Crash by Catherine Miller is an intriguing story with layers of emotion, love, disappointments, and renewal. The lives of two couples are dramatically changed by fate. The first couple, Mike and Susan, plan a trip to rekindle their marriage. On their way back home, their favorite song comes on the radio which causes them to look at each other with love in their eyes.
Zack and Chloe meet after they have both received heart transplants. Zack feels an immediate connection to Chloe from the first time they meet. As they spend more time together, they notice changes in their thoughts and feelings. Could there be a mysterious physical link to their organ donors? Does a physical body part such as a heart retain a sense of being? A thoughtful and sweet love story with twists. I loved this book!

What a great concept! Imagine if hearts could hold memories even after they'd left the bodies of their original owners. Maybe they can. Catherine Miller does a wonderful job exploring this idea in The Crash. I loved how Mike and Susan's story is woven in among Chloe's and Zach's. So clever! Interesting characters with complicated relationships, made this a great read for me!

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Crash’ written by Catherine Miller in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Susan books an Eighties Weekend Cruise for herself and husband Mike to celebrate forty years of being married. As they drive home Mike takes his eyes off the road for a second and to avoid hitting a deer they crash into a tree. When Zach meets Chloe on a hospital bench following heart replacement surgery he feels strangely drawn to her until he feels their hearts are linked in some way but is he imagining it?

‘The Crash’ is a lovely story about a couple whose lives end abruptly and two young people who should be dead but are given a fresh chance of life through organ donation. I like how the story is told through the narrative of Mike, Susan, Zach and Chloe until their stories eventually connect. The writing style makes this an easy book to get into and I’ve enjoyed getting involved in the characters’ lives which has kept me engrossed from page one. I recommend this novel and look forward to reading more by this author.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

At the edge of a forest, a husband and wife are driving through the winding lanes. When a song comes on the radio, the song that brought the high-school sweethearts together on a dancefloor forty years ago, they turn to each other. That split second - a stolen glance as memories wash over them - is one of their last. Moments later, their car crashes.

Two strangers lie in hospital. Zach survived a near-fatal accident. Chloe has a life-long heart condition. But Zach and Chloe's lives are saved that day when they each receive a new heart.

What a beautifully written story this is. The story is told by Mike, Susan, Zach and Chloe's points of view. It flips back and forth between the present day and the past. It will also pull at your heartstrings. Organ donation is such an emotional rollercoaster, someone's gain is another families loss, but the author has cover it sensitively. This is a story of love and second chances.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #CatherineMiller for my ARC of #TheCrash in exchange for an honest review.
