What a twisty journey this book is. A great psychological thriller with some interesting characters.
Sisters, Cara, Rachel and Molly, have just buried their father. They are all set to start sorting through their father’s belongings but then they make a shocking discovery hidden away in their father’s shed. There are photos and jewellery and it isn’t long before Cara realises these are from the victims of a serial killer. Could their father be a killer ?
The sisters decide to hide their discovery from everyone but this soon leads them to drift apart and for some their lives take a steady decline.
A year later a woman’s body is discovered any everything points to the return of the serial killer but that can’t be right, can it ? Was their father really a killer ? Does someone know what they know ? Does someone know that they know ? Can they discover the truth before it’s too late ?
This is a great twisty psychological thriller. The sisters are all great characters in their own separate ways and the ending will have you wanting more !!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
What would you do, if, on the night of your much respected father’s funeral you discovered he is a serial killer? You’re entire world shifts on its axis, your memories are tainted forever but what would you do? This is the dilemma that confronts the Martin sisters. Of course, as in all families, the three sisters have different memories of their father, different concepts about him and Cara and Rachel find it easier to believe than Molly, the youngest. By deciding not to tell the world about their terrible discovery they open a whole new and extremely dark can of worms.
The story follows the three girls during the next year and the different and separate ways they cope with their secret. None of them are doing particularly well and then terror strikes. Someone has picked up their father’s mantle and seems to targeting people close to the sisters. As the bodies and the tension mount up the three sisters have to forget their differences and pull together to try and find out who knows their horrifying secret and how they can be stopped from killing again.
This is a fast moving thriller with so many twists, most of which I did not see coming and the end did not disappoint.
Well this is an absolute gem! I was pulled in and completely hooked. I mean wow just wow!! What a book! What a rollercoaster! How will a written review do this justice?
This is an absolute corker of a read. Smith has reeled me in hook, line and sinker. I’ve definitely been unable and unwilling to put this one down. Smith has created a novel unlike anything I’ve read previously.
I am a huge fan of Smith, this is a gem. I’d even go as far as saying that this is my absolute favourite by Smith yet.
I have devoured page after page of this one. It definitely hasn’t disappointed. I’ve been completely unable to predict where this was going.
It’s safe to say that I have loved this one. It has been completely unputdownable. I cannot say anything negative about this one. It’s a gem, I will definitely be recommending.
I just devoured this book, and the plot summary really appealed to me. I note that others have found it repetitive but I didnt it seemed to all flow with the story. There were many characters and relationships but all seemed to work.
It was interesting to see what happens when you get put into that situation -I don't think anyone can judge.
How it ended was brilliant.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second book I’ve read by Miranda Smith and once again she has blown me away!
The Killer’s Family is deliciously dark. I devoured this book in a day. It was so addictive. So brilliantly written and the plot was well-executed. The ending—-my jaw dropped—I did not see that major twist coming.
The Martin sisters: Cara, Rachel, and Molly were very likable and relatable. The three sisters had such a desirable bond. I really enjoyed how Miranda Smith wrote it from each of their perspectives and threw in a few chapters from the serial killer’s perspective.
This is definitely one of my favorites of 2022!
I will post this review for Bookouture books on tour on April 2nd on my Instagram handle: @thrillersandcoffee
I loved the idea of this book. So many stories are told either from the point of view of the victim or whoever it is trying to get to the bottom of things, sometimes from the murderer themselves. This time though, we have the family of the murderer. A family who never knew what was going on.
I really enjoyed seeing the story unfold through their eyes. Both as they tried to come to terms with what their family member has done, but also because the same story seems to be playing out again now.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this book. I honestly thought I'd got it all figured out and that I wasn't going to be fooled. I was wrong. I didn't see it coming at all, which I actually really enjoyed. (Especially as I'd been feeling so smug about it all.)
This was a gripping read and one that I got through really quickly, mostly because I really didn't want to put it down.
If you're looking for a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat with something a little different then you won't go far wrong here.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
This is my second Miranda Smith book and I loved them both! They are so creative and both had twists I didn’t see coming! I love how she writes, and how creative her plot lines are!
The Killer’s Family is told from the alternating perspectives of three sisters: Cara Gibson, Rachel Martin, and Molly Martin. The sisters are grieving the death of their father only six months after the death of their mother. The night after their dad’s funeral, the sisters cannot sleep and end up in their dad’s backyard workshop. What they discover under an uneven floorboard is shocking to say the least. It turns out the loving father they thought they knew was a serial killer. The sisters all deal with the news differently and decide not to tell anyone about the information they found. However, a year later women are found murdered in a similar way and the sisters are finally forced to face the fact that their father was a serial killer.
Miranda Smith does an excellent job writing each of the sister’s perspectives. The book is not confusing at all because the three sisters are so distinct and well-developed characters. I like how the author shows how differently each sister deals with learning that their father is a serial killer. I also enjoyed the inclusion of Rachel being a lesbian and having a girlfriend. The process of the sisters finding out who the new killer is kept me engaged. The plot twist was completely unexpected. I did not see the ending coming at all. This was my first book by Miranda Smith and I can’t wait to read more!
What will three adult sisters do when they discover that their recently deceased father was a serial killer? Or, what if he's not and was framed since The Gemini Killer seems to have reemerged since their father's death? Or, are these copy cat killings targeting the sisters? The Killer's Family sets the scene quickly for an intense family drama with these questions and more!!
This book definitely steered me many different directions and there was a huge reveal that I did not see coming!! It was a little slow at times and I didn't really feel connected to the characters as much as I would like but it's a great plot with many twists and turns and will keep you guessing till the end!!
Thank you Netgally and Bookouture for the opportunity to review this title!
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Killer’s Family’ written by Miranda Smith in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Just as the three sisters, Cara, Rachel and Molly, are coming to terms with the death of their mother, a few months later their father also dies. After his funeral they discover evidence that their father was a notorious killer but as he’s no longer alive they keep his secret. A year later and the killings start again. Were the sisters wrong in believing their father guilty or is there a copycat killer in their midst?
‘The Killer’s Family’s is a gripping psychological thriller involving three sisters and the secrets they keep to save their father’s reputation. The story is told through their dialogue and the drama, suspense and intrigue makes this an exciting and well-written thriller. The character descriptions are good and the plot becomes more involving the closer I get to the conclusion, until I reach the final page and the massive cliffhanger to ponder on! I’ve enjoyed reading this novel, the first I’ve read by Miranda Smith, and I’m more than happy to recommend it.
Oh my word, what a story! The Killer's Family is a complete page turner from start to finish. There were so many twists and turns that I did not know what direction the story would go and the ending was fantastic - I did not see it coming at all.
I highly recommend The Killer's Family.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
Three sisters, one family secret.
At one point these three women were extremely close, now they barely speak. They all hold a secret that they have not been able to face... their father, is/was a serial killer.
Then, another body shows up and the townspeople insist its the work of the serial killer, but the girls know that cant possibly be true, their father is dead.
The three girls have to come together to see who wants to incriminate the girls for their long buried secret. What else does the past hold ? They will have to work together to find out.
This was an insanely suspenseful read that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. This is my first book by Miranda Smith but it will not be my last. The plot was intriguing and kept my attention. I was engaged through and through. The twists that popped up and the secrets that were exposed had my jaw on the floor quite a few times.
I typically read pretty fast but this was the kind of book that you skip bathroom breaks for. I finished it in just a few hours and was left thinking about it for days to follow.
I highly recommend this book! 5 stars!
What a page turner! I was literally transfixed to The Killer’s Family from start to end. I just had to read into the early hours to find out what surprises this book held, and the shocks kept on coming.
The three main characters, Molly, Cara and Rachel totally immersed me in their predicament. I felt their shock, their heartache and their need to make all the decisions that they made.
The amount of thrills and chills were heart stopping. A serial killer, a haunting past, an abundance of imminent danger - all these sealed the deal that this is a fabulous thriller.
If you love a book that moves at pace, gives you the creeps and makes you say wow at every turn, don’t miss The Killer’s Family!
Love the premise of this novel, great domestic suspense! There are twists, turns, and loads of surprises. Don't start this unless you have a clear schedule because you will not be able to put it down!
This was a decent thriller. It starts with a bang and then the ball just tumbles down the hill as three sisters try to figure out how to deal with the fact that their recently deceased father was a prolific serial killer. Each woman has their own reaction and their own way of dealing. A year later someone brings their father's ghost to life by killing in his name. At this point the story delves too deeply and repetitively into emotions. The rest of the great twists don't come until after a long lag. A good tightening would escalate this story to a sturdy four star thriller.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Bookouture and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
I quite appreciate a title keeps me entertained and engaged throughout, mission accomplished.
Characters are well written, formed and easily play off others.
I couldn’t put this one down.
Three sisters are devastated by the sudden death of their father only 6 months after they buried their beloved mother. But that was just the beginning of their ordeal.
After the funeral, they discover some evidence that their father was no other but the local legend serial killer who has never been caught, Gemini. They choose to keep it a secret but it eats them up from the inside and drives them apart.
A year later, each is dealing with what they uncovered in her own way, some in denial, some in research, and some in self-destruction.
Then the killing starts with the same old Gemini method which makes the sisters rethink what they believed for the past year. Was their father really Gemini, was he framed, or was he covering for someone?!
It was a wonderful fast-paced ride that I totally enjoyed and didn't want it to end, even though I wanted to know what happens and who the killer is. It had some twists and turns that I didn't see coming and some surprises.
The ending was good and fulfilling, but there was an open-end question that I wished to know the answer to.
I really wish this book would turn into a TV series, I'm sure it will be a blast!
In the end, I thank Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Killer's Family by Miranda Smith is an absolutely unputdownable book that mashes up the serial killer thriller and domestic thriller subgenres. The story revolves around three sisters who discover a terrifying secret after their father dies. He was actually a serial killer known as the Gemini killer. Since he's already dead, they decide to get rid of the evidence and cover it up. But what happens when the Gemini killer starts killing again? Isn't he supposed to be dead? Or is this just a copycat murderer?
Here is a chilling excerpt from Chapter 4 when the girls discover something unexpected:
"Molly lifted the lid and peered inside, shuffling through a stack of papers. She leaned in closer, then pulled back and dropped it. “Gross.”
“What?” Rachel asked.
“What is it?” Cara echoed, pushing past Molly to get a better look.
There weren’t papers, but pictures. Cara stared at them, tuning out her sisters’ voices. Her mind was trying to make sense of something, find a reasonable explanation for what they had found. Think, think, think. A sickness started forming in her gut, clenching her insides and squeezing tight.
She knew what the pictures were."
Overall, The Killer's Family is a masterful thriller that brings together many intriguing elements. It will appeal to fans of the Unsub series or the Pretty Little Liars series. One highlight of this book is the strong bonds between the three sisters. It's nice to see that even after years have passed, the three sisters still look out for each other and protect each other. Another highlight of this book is how unputdownable it is. I had to keep turning the pages to find out what happened next, and my interest was piqued throughout. Near the end, there was a major twist that I did not see coming. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in March!
How terrifying of a story where I absolutely have no idea how I would react if I found out such things about my father. These sisters are in the same predicament and it was so interesting to hear from each of them as they moved through anger, shock, denial, and outrage at what other secrets their family may have been keeping. So well written, Miranda!
Ooh, what a tangled web! This is the story of a normal family living their normal lives. That is until their father dies soon after losing their mother and an unspeakable secret is found. What to do? What follows is a labyrinth of secrets, betrayals and some shocking surprises along the way.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
