I want to thank NetGalley for giving me a digital copy of “The Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels” to review.
This book starts off with a recap of the first book, so don’t worry if you haven’t been reading them in order! It follows actress Hayley LeBlanc as she solves mysteries on and off-set. Think of this series as Scooby-Doo meets Nancy Drew.
I’ll admit that the writing isn’t great, but I think that the plot is very fun and engaging which makes up for it in part.
I enjoyed this story with all the characters within. The main character were Hayley and her two friends.
Hayley is a twelve years old girl. She is in a TV show called Sadie Solves it. While filming her next show something happens again on the studio set. Her and her friends decided to try to solve the mystery. But the producer doesn't want her trying to solve it he want her to focus on her line.
This was a fun story to read. It is the second in the series. It had action and adventure throughout. It had a few giggles within.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
Super cute mystery! Reminds me of Scooby Doo in a way. The friendships are great and I love the TV show set setting. Overall a fun read that I think kids would really enjoy!

Netgalley and Sourcebooks provided me with a copy of Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels for review:
This was an impressive children's book written by a thirteen-year-old:
It's going well for Hayley LeBlanc on Sadie Solves It. However, one day, expensive studio items start disappearing. Is there a thief involved?
Despite her best efforts, Hayley becomes involved when a missing item is found in her trailer, and her favorite makeup artist is alleged to have been responsible. Hayley begins her own investigation with her two best friends' help.
Before things get worse, can they find the real culprit?
I give Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
The storyline was light, simple and the narrative was very easy to digest. This book was not only for children but I as an adult reader also quite enjoyed the story in this book. However, perhaps because this book was made by a child who would be into a teenager, I felt that the story still needs maturity, both in terms of narration, the characters, and also the execution of its ending. But it doesn't matter. It didn't change my perception of making this book a good choice for younger readers. Apart from all that ways, I quite enjoyed the story in this book and whoever reads it will be very easily entertained by the story concept.
As my little one’s reading skills evolve, I’ve started reaching for middle grade reads in order to have a number of good books waiting for her when she reaches that reading level. And these two books in The Hayley Mysteries series made the cut.
Written by a pre-teen, and there is a freshness, authenticity, and sweetness that I really appreciated. It reminded me of so many conversations I have had with preteens in my work with them throughout the years.
The mysteries were straightforward and the investigations complex enough, with enough hints for readers to get a good idea of what may have happened without delivering it on a silver platter. There are also moments of character growth and development that young readers will benefit from. The situations and their resolutions are quite wholesome, and a great way for parents to have conversations about dynamics in friendships. One such situation had one character lashing out at another as stress and self-doubt started getting the best of her; the resolution was balanced and well thought-out.
I didn’t find overt sexism or misogyny in the book, and there is a good amount of diversity in the characters. I’m going to get my hands on the third book in the series, and hope that more are on the horizon!
Review to come in 10 days to blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
😍 While predictable (which is a boo), I did like the mystery because I liked seeing the kids figure things out and find clues and try to make plans to capture/find the thief. It was fun that the kids, in between the show, talked and laid down the clues. That they interviewed people.
😍 Ava the daughter of Vee! I hope we see more of her.
😍 Loved learning more about the characters, and not just the main characters, but also the side-characters. Like how Vee is working hard to have money for the operation her daughter needs. Or how the actress playing the principal isn't that bad. But also see Aubrey take a shot at singing.
😍 Very fast-paced. I read this book in a flash. Before I knew it the book was over!
😍 Seeing the acting + reading about the show! It makes me want to step into the book and just see it live. See it on TV. The show sounds right up my alley.
😍 Thena. Amelia's pet. It was such a fun addition to add a new pet to the book and I found the choice very fun. Not just a dog or a rabbit, oh no, something more special. At least for me, I mean, I don't know anyone with that kind of pet.
😍 The cover! It is so much fun!
😍 The illustrations! They really made the book come to life and I always have fond feelings for books with illustrations.
😍 Almost no Amelia's Mom. Thank the heavens! I don't like her at all, so having very little appearances in the book makes me want to rate the book higher. XD
😍 The friendship between Cody, Aubrey, and Hayley! They are such good friends and I love how they are often together, helping each other out, supporting, solving mysteries, and more!
😍 Hayley is such a fun MC. She is sweet, kind, has a knack for mystery, works hard on the show. And also knows when to apologise!
😍 Salmon! Hayley's cat~ He is such a cutie and I just love that many people added a cat flap to their trailers so that Salmon has even more room to roam. Plus, he plays a big part in the ending with capturing the thief.
😶Still unsure about Amelia. She does show some better sides in this book, but I am still not a fan. I am glad that it feels more natural now to have her in the friendship group though, but I still wish that she was added now instead of forced in the first book (yes, it felt forced).
🙄I guessed the whodunnit from like VERY early on. And apparently that was indeed also the criminal. Please, just make it more difficult to guess. That is all the fun.
But all in all, I had tons of fun reading this book and I am glad I got the chance to do so! I still got the next book and I am hoping to read it this weekend (writing this one on the 7th of October). I would recommend this book (and the first book) to all. Mystery! Perfect for Halloween season.
My 10 year old really is enjoying this series.
She enjoys the characters.and the fact the story takes place around a theater.
I read the second Hayley mysteries book in a couple of days over my lunch break. This book was stronger than the first in the series but just as good. The series is slowly introducing us more to each character and we are getting more details since the first book really set the scene of what the series is to become.
Thank you NetGalley for another wonderful book from Hayley LeBlanc. It was a quick but entertaining read. I look forward to the next book. My girls enjoyed the first one so I know they will look forward to this one as well.
This is a quick and fun read and a nice follow up to the first book in the series.
Haley and her friends (and Amelia) are back at it, recording episodes for Sadie Solves It. There is another mystery to solve though when a crown goes missing from the set. It's paste but it is an important part of this particular episode where a princess (played by an actor famous for being a superhero) is searching for her long-lost sister. But, unfortunately, it's not the only piece of jewelry to go missing. And all signs point to one of Hayley's favorite people, Vee, being the thief. It's up to the Silver Sleuthios (like Silver Studios) to solve the mystery so Vee can keep her job and get her daughter's surgery underway.
Four stars

Opinions are my own
There was much to like in the second book of the series . The children I read to enjoyed this perhaps more than the series starter and liked the fact that there was more said about Hayleys group of friends in this book. We will look forward to the next book in the series.
I really enjoyed this second instalment in The Hayley Mysteries. I found the mystery in this one to be interesting. I also found myself enjoying the side characters more then I did while reading the first one. The big reveal at the end was unexpected but excellently executed. Definitely a great middle grade series so far.
The Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels
Hayley Leblanc
7/10
So this is the second book, in which I hope will be the next Nancy drew series, the Hayley Mysteries. I would like to start with the good elements of the book for this review.
Firstly, I find while I am reading this series, I learn a lot about the acting world. I learn about new terms in acting, child laws, etc. I loved this aspect of the story because acting is awesome, and it teaches me things about being an actor, which I want to do when I grow up.
I also really enjoyed how when I am reading this book, it is like an episode of a reality TV show playing out in front of my eyes. This is like a behind the scenes book, where most of the events take place on the filming lot, while the cameras aren’t rolling. It also incorporates hidden camera show vibes, which are so cheesy. (and I am a sucker for cheesy things: Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Original Sin, etc.) Aside from the book, I would love to talk about the author for a minute.
Hailey Leblanc is a 13 year old influencer who has 5+ million followers on social profiles, a child actor, and now a published author with three books coming out in one year. So I want to say, “MAD RESPECT” for your hustle. I hope you will pursue writing as another career, because you are good. Now here comes the part I dread the most, talking about the things I didn’t enjoy so much.
Firstly I wanted to discuss the age this year is meant for. In my opinion the age range for this book is 8 to 12 years old. As an older reader and a lover of mysteries, I predicted he was stealing the jewels because I am always looking for the answer. I use the breadcrumbs that were laid out to find who is the culprit. Now I do think that a younger reader would not be able to guess who it is, and they would definitely love trying to figure it out. But I knew who it was.
This book is a middle grade chapter book about a girl named Hayley who is the star of a kids mystery tv series, and also solves mysteries of her own. There are about 20 chapters, and about 5 pages per chapter bringing this book in at about 180 pages. Each chapter has a very detailed black and white picture, some take up a whole page while others are small. The illustrations are definitely in the popular style and would draw in children much like the cover would. In addition, it is written by a 13-year-old social media influencer, so I think that would bring in the pre-teens as well!
It is a mystery so there are a few “scary” elements but it is mainly just a thief and things going missing. Definitely nothing for parents or teachers to be worried about. The story also has some positive lessons such as friendship, working together and being kind to others.
I could definitely see my Grade 3 students reading and enjoying this book. It is a slightly longer early chapterbook but I think that it wouldn’t be too intimidating for new chapterbook readers. I would recommend this book for children in grades 2-5, with the target audience probably being grades 3&4.
I really appreciate the opportunity from Netgalley and the publisher to read and review an advance copy of this book! I am looking forward to purchasing a copy for my students in the future!
