I love this series featuring sisters who are independent and fiercely loyal. Diana is the hardest of the bunch and as she took up the role of protector once their father left them in the lurch. So I was fascinated to see how her romance with Giles the lovable duke would turn out. It was more serious and had a grand quest at its center than the previous novel but that held true to Diana’s nature. There’s plenty of characters to fall in love with here and lots of side stories that keep this story fast paced. Diana and Giles romance is a slow burn that is an opposites attract story that made me lol multiple times. Diana and Giles keep us guessing with how they’re going to get there in the end and I loved the fight for it. I did think we spent a lot of time in the internal workings of Diana and Giles and would have liked more conversations to be had rather than thought. However the second half remedied that when they were forced together to solve their mystery. I can’t wait for the next one!
"Never Rescue a Rogue" by Virginia Heath
The Dirty Secret
Oh, boy, am I glad I did not miss this story. I was hooked on this story from the get-go. Yes, I devoted my day to reading this story and let the rest of my world take care of its self. There was a wee bit of spice but if that is not your cuppa tea it is easily skipped, because you really don’t want to miss this FUN easy reading romance. This is a worthy read. Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: This review expresses my honest opinion.

This was a fun romance. I’d enjoyed book one and was looking forward to this second book! There’s so much banter and snark, but with a soft heart underneath. I loved how capable Diana was. Giles had his issues, but was able to grow as a character.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. This book was so fun. I really enjoyed it. This book kept me interested and i enjoyed the book and this genre
Virginia Heath's NEVER RESCUE A ROGUE is delightful. The story just has the perfect arc, and the slow burn romance between Diana and Giles and everything they sort through together is wonderfully paced. How they finally come together after all their confessions is *chef's kiss*. Also, Diana's family is so entertaining; they're brilliant side characters. However, I think the best part of NEVER RESCUE A ROGUE is definitely the banter between Diana and Giles. Even when it's half-hearted, you know they're head over heels for each other. Highly recommend this one to lovers of romance.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this arc!
I have been obsessing over historical romance lately. And book #1 in this series was so so fun so I couldn’t wait for this one!
We met both Diana and Giles in the first book and we saw sparks fly. I liked understanding more about their backgrounds. Especially Giles because they made him seem like such a playboy, but we learn that a lot of that is an act.
I was super intrigued by Giles’ “dirty secret” and learning more about his parentage. Through helping him, Diana started learning more about the real him and even though she denied it began to fall for him.
Their relationship progressed naturally and the chemistry was so so real.
I’m so excited for Vee’s story. She has grown so much in these books!
When tolerating your sister's husband's best friend turns into helping him discover the truth about his parentage.
We met both Giles and Diana in Virginia Heath's first book, Never Fall for Your Fiancée. They bickered like crazy and the tension was palpable. So when they become the subject of this book, the reader (aka me) gets to enjoy all the squabbling we only got snippets of in the first book.
Diana has a knack for finding the truth and when her nemesis approaches her needing her skills, she agrees to help him find the truth about her parentage. As the two of them investigate the truth, they discover more about each other than they realize including an attraction that's difficult to fight.
I loved the first book and couldn't say enough good things about it. I adore historical romances and one with fantastic writing and banter is right up my alley so when I saw that this book had been released, I knew I had to get it and it definitely did not disappoint. I'm fully invested in the Meriwell sisters now and can't wait to see what happens in the last book.
I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
Oh my gosh, I love the Merriwell sisters. Diana’s book was as fun as Minerva’s, with a dash of mystery and intrigue. I loved the subplots that were interwoven so well. Diana is such a strong character and one that I was looking forward to and did not disappoint. Dalton stole the show every time he showed up and Giles was unexpectedly one of the sweetest leads I’ve read. I enjoyed every page of this book, beginning to end, and I truly cannot wait for Vee’s book!
3/5. Releases 11/8/2022.
When Giles Sinclair unexpectedly inherits his father's dukedom, he's left betrothed to a woman he's not interested in, and hiding a major secret. Driven to desperation by blackmail, Giles can only turn to the woman who annoys him most: truth-seeking Diana Merriwell.
So here's the thing. This is probably a great read for people who love very light enemies to lovers, and enjoy a somewhat softer hero. Giles is actually quite charming, and he's slutty, which I love. But I found him lacking in the... gumption department. He was good for a turn of phrase, but not so great for leaping into action, which is what I want, personally, in a romance novel hero. He had a cute back and forth with Diana, but at points it could be so exasperating that I kept waiting for him to get one over on her, which was... confusing.
I didn't really understand how a book that relied so much on the snippy vibes between the hero and heroine in the beginning could ultimately fail to have much real conflict between them. Again, if you want something lighter, you'll enjoy that--but for me, it felt like the book ran out of steam.
To be blunt, I also had an issue with bonding with Diana as a heroine--she's very "intrepid modern heroine", which I can like. But it came off as a bit "look at how smart she is compared to the girl he's engaged to" which I disliked. There was a lot of dunking on the other girl for her intellect and frivolous nature, and I just didn't feel that.
It was cute! But to me, it could have gone a lot deeper. I think a lot of this was a case of "it's not you, it's me". Except for the comparison between the heroine and the alternative--that... was not me.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Griffin for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I went into this without having read the previous novel in the series, but that didn't interfere with my ability to follow and enjoy this one. My favorite aspect of this book was that, although it is advertised as a kind of 'enemies-to-lovers' story, it was pretty clear that Diana and Giles didn't truly hate one another. There was also a sense that they enjoyed one another's company and that their verbal sparing was just for fun. This was absolutely clear in the way he sought to keep her safe and the way she helped him find the truth of who his mother was. I'm very curious to see if anything further occurs between Vee and Galahad - they certainly have an interesting first meeting story.
Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair, heir to the Duke of Harpenden, claim to only tolerate one another for the sake of their loved ones. Their attraction has been stewing for a while, and finally bubbles over as Diana puts her investigative skills to work to help Giles sleuth the truth about a blackmailer and his father's past.
This is the second book in the Merriwell Sisters series. The first book, Never Fall For Your Fiancée, involved Diana's older sister and Giles's best friend.
I enjoyed this story of the not-quite oil-and-water duo, but I expected more family shenanigans like the first novel. The tone of this one was slightly less comedic, although there were some shenanigans and Diana's family shows up for a strong ending. The writing from Heath was still very entertaining, and the couple spends plenty of time together on page with witty banter. (3.5 stars)

I am posting an honest review after reading an advance reader copy of this story.
What a ride! I found the characters delightful and the story intriguing. The Merriwell sisters are a heart wrenching story all by themselves. Add a Duke who needs help and it's the start of an adventure. From London to Shropshire, where the heck is that, it's a fast paced mystery and race to the finish line with a dukedom at stake. Diana & Giles are prickly and perfect for each other. The ending had me in stiches and I scared the cat when I started laughing; it's like an old fashioned screwball comedy. The book covers the serious and the ridiculous very well and it all meshes together to form a wonderful story. Next up, please be Vee & I have already formed an idea who her HEA will be.

Unfortunately, I don't think this book was a good fit for me. Part of it could be that I was unfamiliar with the characters after not reading the first in this series, but I struggled to get into the story and follow the pacing. This is not a reflection on the author, just that as a reader this is not a book for me, but I am appreciative of the opportunity to read the ARC.
I'm going to give this 3 stars because I believe it has potential, although I personally had to DNF at 30%. I don't usually read historical romance, and I think that is part of why I didn't feel super invested in the story. I did like Diana and Giles and felt the chemistry between them. I just didn't really have an interest in him becoming Duke and trying to figure out his father's secrets.
Normally, if I don't enjoy the first book in a series, I'm hard pressed to pick up the subsequent titles. That being said. The glimpses we got of Diana and Giles in never fall for your fiance (which unfortunately I did not enjoy at all) had me with very high hopes for their story. But let me tell you, never rescue a rogue exceeded the expectations. In the first book, you could feel their chemistry falling off the pages so much more than you could with Hugh and Minerva. And it was those glimpses that me pick up the second merriwell book.
Diana and Giles have a part friends to lovers (when alone and working on the quest regarding his parentage) and enemies to lovers in the presence of, well anyone else. You get the banter, the pining, the unwavering support of each other, the matchmaking relatives, and that steamy scene that, let's be honest we were all waiting for. The mystery behind Giles' parents kept the reader guessing through the entire book leading us right to that ending with some unsuspecting additions!! Once the conflict was resolved though the ending felt a little rushed, and I would have loved more of an epilogue. But with Vee's book on the horizon, I have who I'm hoping for her from the second book and will have to see if I was right and hoping for more glimpses of Giles and Diana in their HEA.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for my review!
Never Rescue a Rogue features two independent characters who both have skeletons rattling around in their closets. It also features witty banter, twists and turns, secrets and schemes, and a super-swoony romance! First I loved Never Fall for Your Fiancé, then I adored Never Rescue a Rogue—two sisters down, one to go in this delightful Merriwell Sisters series!
3.5
THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER FOR THE ARC!
This book is really cute and funny, like the first “Never Fall For Your Fiancée”. I really loved Hugh and Minerva and I love Giles and Diana too. They are so right for each other. They can make the other better (like Minerva and Hugh).
The dynamic between Diana and Giles are one of the my favourite: hate lo love. And I love the two of them are so similar in so many aspects. Really love their relationship and their cute interactions. And the banter are so brilliant! A really smile and laugh all the time!
I really like Giles background and the story behind him. Really interesting.
This book is super approved and I can’t wait to know Vee better and see her happy ending!
I really struggled with this one. I just found it difficult to get into the characters. It felt like it was a little too slow for me. Probably just me as many people seem to love this story. I will try to come back and reread it but for now I didn’t care for it. I still recommend others check it out.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving this ARC, and this doesn’t influence my review. I loved this cover a lot, and had some high expectations but I didn’t like this book as much as I thought I would. The writing was hard to understand, and I have read many historical/regency books, I had trouble following the plot and the POVs.
Diana and Giles both had terrible fathers who made them what they are today. Diana is prickly, independent, and doesn't trust easily. Giles decided to prove his father right, that he is a disappointing son. Being ever more and more scandalous. Diana's sister married Giles' best friend in book one so they can't help but run into each other. He calls her Harridan, she calls him Idiot. But is there really a frisson of attraction behind the banter as her family insists? Giles has a Dirty Secret that could destroy the Dukedom and his family's tenants while putting him in jail or worse. When his father dies, it becomes essential to quickly solve the mystery or his horrible uncle might get everything. Diana is the best investigator he knows (she has a secret of her own). The two must work together to find the answer among interfering sisters, an angry best friend, mistletoe, and skeletons in the cupboard.
