This was a such a cute historical romance. I love the take on enemies to lovers meets the rogue trope. I’ll keep an eye out for this author in the future.
I loved the interactions between Diana and Giles. I could almost feel their sarcastically humorous "loathing" of each other. Their chemistry was palpable from the start. I found myself laughing throughout. I will definitely be recommending this book.
Thank you Virginia Heath, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
I love the chemistry between Giles and Diana! This was such a fun historical romance with plenty of romance AND action. Plus, it's a part of a trilogy so if you've read Never Fall for Your Fiancee, you'll see some familiar characters. I'll definitely be picking up book #3 in the series!
This book had me laughing out loud with the snark between Diana & Giles. I enjoyed uncovering the skeletons in Giles closet and searching for the truth with Diana. I found this book delightful. This is my first book in the series and was able to read as a standalone.
I really liked this book, the story and the plot. Not going into heavy details until St. Martin's press acknowledges the hurt an employee has cause to Palestinians and other Arab communities.
Revisting the Merriwell sisters was a delight. In the second installment, we get to know Diana and Giles a lot better and watch as their relationship evolves over time through parties, scandal, and more. I enjoyed this more than the first, which was a really pleasant surprise!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read the book. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Book Review: Never Rescue a Rogue
Virginia Heath's "Never Rescue a Rogue," a delightful addition to the Merriwell Sisters series, is a witty and enchanting tale that seamlessly weaves whip-smart banter, swoon-worthy romance, comical mishaps, and unexpected revelations, keeping readers gasping and laughing in sheer delight.
The story centers around Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair, who, despite their outwardly acerbic exchanges, share an unspoken disdain for each other rather than any concealed attraction. They both embrace their independent lives, with Diana cherishing her freedom working at the newspaper and Giles content in his bachelorhood. However, a shared secret looms over their lives, a secret they cannot afford to have exposed.
As circumstances unravel and Giles’ father, the Duke of Harpenden, passes away, a perilous threat emerges. The revelation of Giles' true parentage, shrouded in secrecy, threatens to bring ruin upon him and all he holds dear. The narrative expertly navigates this web of intrigue, placing Giles and Diana at the heart of the mystery. In their quest to unveil the truth and save their futures, their initially denied attraction becomes impossible to ignore, adding layers of complexity and emotion to the story.
Virginia Heath masterfully crafts a narrative filled with unexpected twists and turns, inviting readers to accompany Giles and Diana on their journey through the Sinclair family's past. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, their evolving relationship beautifully depicted against the backdrop of a looming crisis.
"Never Rescue a Rogue" is a remarkable blend of romance and mystery, offering readers a delightful escape into a Regency-era world. Heath's engaging storytelling, coupled with a vibrant and endearing cast of characters, makes this book an absolute page-turner.
In conclusion, "Never Rescue a Rogue" is a must-read for fans of historical romance, providing a perfect balance of humor, romance, and intrigue that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next installment in the captivating Merriwell Sisters series.
Never Rescue a Rogue is the second installment in The Merriwell Sisters series and so far, it’s my favorite.
I adored Diana and Giles. Everyone believes they belong together, except for Diana and Giles.
I loved watching them grow closer as they worked together to uncover the truth about Giles’s birth. The slow-burn enemies to friends to lovers was very well done and the chemistry and banter between these two was so good.
Dalton may be one of my favorite characters in this series. He absolutely stole every scene he was in!
After that ending, I’m really looking forward to Vee’s book!
*4.5⭐️
This book was delightful! Since the first book, I could feel the spark between Diana and Giles, and the pay off was amazing! While this book was not as funny as the first, as it dealt with more serious subjects, it was still witty, entertaining, and romantic, just like the first.
I loved the mysteries surrounding the book. It was really fun to watch Giles and Diana bicker as they solved his family mystery and she went on her semi-wild goose chases. It was also a great catalyst for them to fall in love, with all of their adorable moments hiding in the bushes and riding in long carriage rides. This led to some of the best love confessions I’ve ever read.
Once again, the side characters were great additions! Olivia is still an icon and I’m now so excited for the romance between the characters with the “stupid names,” (their words, not mine), because Vee and Galahad are definitely made for each other, just like Minerva and Hugh and Diana and Hugh.
This book just wasn’t so me. I tried and tried to read it but it just couldn’t keep my attention
I know some would love this book it’s not for me.
I love Virginia Heath’s books, as well as regency romance. This book was no exception and didn’t disappoint. Do yourself a favor and pick up the series and enjoy the ride of meeting another pair of lovers finding their HEA.
"Never Rescue a Rogue" by Virginia Heath is a regency romance gem that transported me to a world of elegance, wit, and heartfelt emotions. This novel is a delightful blend of historical charm, engaging characters, and a romance that unfolds with grace.
Heath's writing style captures the essence of the regency era, immersing readers in a world of ballrooms, manners, and the complexities of societal expectations. The characters in the novel are beautifully crafted, each with their own strengths and vulnerabilities that add depth to the story.
At the heart of the narrative is a love story that is as tender as it is passionate. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable, and their journey from initial attraction to deeper connection is portrayed with authenticity.
"Never Rescue a Rogue" successfully captures the nuances of regency romance while delivering a narrative that is both charming and emotionally resonant. The exploration of themes like second chances and the power of forgiveness adds depth to the story.
In conclusion, "Never Rescue a Rogue" is a captivating and beautifully written regency romance that will enchant fans of the genre. If you're seeking a book that offers a glimpse into the elegance and romance of historical society, while also exploring the complexities of love, this novel is a must-read that will leave you sighing with satisfaction.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!
I really enjoyed the first in this series, so when NEVER RESCUE A ROGUE came up I had to read it. It was fun, banter-y, and exactly the historical romance that I was looking for. I appreciated that it went a bit more in depth with the characters than the first book which lead to a more nuanced read! Do recommend picking up especially if you love historical romances.
This was a great sequel! I enjoyed the first book but this one was even better. I enjoyed that there was a bit of mystery and Giles and Diana worked together throughout. I was not expecting several twists but I love how they moved the plot along. I also love that we got to see Vee in a much more mature light and the excerpt at the end makes me so excited to read her story next!
I started this book with no expectations, but needless to say,, I was blown away. Giles and Diana are flawed in a way that it feels like a modern romance rather than a Regency-era one. They overcame obstacles, dodged flying weapons (figuratively), but stayed who they were. In a way, it was very much Enola Holmes vibes.
This is such a fun series! Maybe I’m just new to the romance genre but I’m loving these series with interconnected characters but separate plots.
Book 2 in this series has some of my favorite tropes and while I love regency books, I really love when they have a modern twist and progressive ladies!
I can’t wait to read book 3!

The sequel to Virginia Heath’s charming Never Fall For Your Fiancee doesn’t quite live up to its predecessor, but is still a perfectly enjoyable installment in the series. My main issue with the book is that, while I like Diana fine (I didn’t care for her much in the previous book, so I love getting to know and like her in this title) I didn’t love Giles as her love interest.
In the previous book, Giles was introduced as an indolent aristocrat, very much modeled after Algernon from Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. In this title we are promised to see hidden depths to him… but to me, these ‘hidden depths’ strain credulity. From the beginning, Giles posits that he acts the rogue in order to punish his father for being a tyrant. Giles, on the other hand, has great sympathy for the servants and tenant farmers, and plans to treat them much better after his father’s death. This too-noble-for-this-world, only-rebelling-to-stick-it-to-the-evil-aristocrat, man-of-the-people schtick is just a little too precious for me. I think he needed to be given a moment where he’s called out on not being the shining martyr he seems to think he is, taken down a peg by Diana. Instead, Diana spends the book helping him in his quest to ensure his tenant farmers don’t end up under the thumb of another tyrant.
Diana is a badass. She works secretly as an investigative reporter exposing men who use their power and position to exploit those weaker than themselves, a dangerous job that nonetheless she is handling with great skill and care. Giles’ reaction to finding out about her job is so disappointing. If he had reacted with ‘I should have known because this is amazing and so are you, but wow now that I know I’m scared for you,’ I would have understood and liked him. Instead his response is ‘What were you thinking being so stupid?’ I hate it. And he spends the rest of the novel being overprotective of her while simultaneously needing her assistance for his every problem.
On the good side: There’s an amazing side character, Giles’ butler Dalton. At first I was annoyed when Giles assigned Dalton to protect Diana, but Dalton ends up being Diana’s assistant more than Giles’ employee, is totally on Diana’s side, and is just a great time overall. Additionally, when Giles gets his head out of his ass, he and Diana have great sexual chemistry. The mystery plot is fun to follow (even if the solution is a little too obvious) and the writing is extremely readable.
I think I’m so disappointed by this novel because I know that Virginia Heath can do the ‘rogue who’s secretly got a heart of gold’ trope really well. I LOVED How to Woo a Wallflower from her, which had exactly that kind of hero. But Giles didn’t do it for me; I didn’t feel like he was rogue enough or hero enough. He just didn’t do enough of his own accord. But as every other part of the book is delightful, I would still recommend it as a lighthearted, quip-filled, cozy-feelings read.
While everyone believes they are meant to be, Diana and Giles barely tolerate each other. Diana loves working at the newspaper, and Giles is a confirmed bachelor. When Giles’ father turns up, Diana helps him figure out the truth about his parentage. However, the attraction they’ve been denying becomes impossible to ignore.
Historical romances are always hit or miss for me, but both Merrill Sisters books were so funny! I enjoyed this book as much as the first, and I can’t wait for the third book in the series.
Sorry for the late review! I normally am not into period pieces but I read this and it was quite fun! A little spice and a fun story was what I needed! Thank you!
So happy to be back with the Merriwell sisters! This was such a tense slow burn that kept me excited from start to finish. I loved all of the banter and dialogue. A don’t-put-it-down book and an easy 5 stars!
