This story had pretty much what you would expect from a regency romance, so if that’s what you’re looking for, then this book is worth the read.
Diana Merriwell comes from a less than noble background, but works her way in to the upper echelons of society, partly through her sisters marriage to a duke, but mostly of her own accord as a fierce young woman. She is good at blending in and therefore great at sussing out secrets - especially the ones that no one wants to be discovered. As a result, she is kind of like out crime fighting superhero, but without the recognition, since all of it is undercover as “The Sentinel”. Honestly, she’s pretty great and no nonsense - even from the dashing duke to be Giles Sinclair. He’s a bit of a mess. He’s left to deal with all the skeleton’s in his closet. The dynamic between the two is fun and you are rooting for them throughout the book, even as Diana is really trying to fight her ever growing attraction to Giles.
The story takes us all over the countryside, so it is quite fun in that respect. I think there is a lot in the story for anyone to enjoy. The youngest Merriwell takes an important role at the end of the book and I’m eagerly looking forward to getting her story next!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a digital copy of the book. This review contains my own honest opinions.

Everyone thinks that Diana and Giles are meant to be together, except Diana and Giles. I love this meant to be type of trope with the enemies to lovers trope twisted in.

Diana has no desire to marry and is happy focusing on her secret journalism career (giving Pen from Bridgerton vibes). Giles, the new Duke of Harpenden. When Giles requests Diana’s help to save his dukedom, the pair are thrown together and can no longer avoid their hidden feelings.

I am a sucker for main characters being oblivious/in denial about their feelings for one another but everyone around them knowing they belong together. This is a trope I have read and enjoyed so many times.

What a treat to get an ARC of this book! I really enjoyed Never Fall For Your Fiancée so it was great to step back into this Regency world. I loved the dialogue and “will they, won’t they” dynamic between Giles and Diana. It was great to see their relationship further develop in this book and to see them take an eternity to realize what everyone else around them had already determined long ago- that they are meant for one another. I highly recommend for fans of Bridgerton and Regency romance. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book ahead of publication.

This is really cute. I liked the main characters and enjoyed the background of Giles's family. I enjoyed the first book in the series and will read the next one (I'm assuming there will be since there's another sister.)

DNF at 42%

I've slowly been venturing into the historical romance genre recently and given the premise, I expected to truly enjoy this but I really didn't connect to either main character and as I approached the halfway mark, I wasn't enjoy the read enough to continue on.

Maybe at some point in the future, I'll give this another chance, but it didn't work for me here.

Utterly charming. A delightful enemies-to-lovers rom-com with a compelling plot. I love Virginia Heath's voice. Her characters, her dialogue, her plotting and romance all jump off the page. I wish the Merriwell Sisters books were a miniseries. They'd be appointment tv for me!

This is the story of middle sister, Diana, the secret journalist, and Giles, the maybe-Duke. After a year of teasing, insulting and fighting their feelings for each other, the pair form an alliance when Giles' father dies. He confides to Diana that he is a bastard and may lose his title to his dastardly uncle. The two team up to find out the truth of Giles' birth and take down his evil uncle.

This one was hard to put down, I fell in love with these characters all over again. I also love romances where the servants are treated like family. I cannot WAIT until the next Halliwell sister gets her story. There is one steam-ish love scene (hotness about a 5 out of 10) and no epilogue, because we aren't done, there's still Vee!

If you like loveable characters (family & servants), comedic dialogue, a good plot and a bit of adventure with your romance, this book is for you!

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. It was funny and the chemistry between Giles and Diana was wonderful.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again I am a sucker for a trio of sisters !! And I love the Merriwell sisters. In my opinion, the second book is even better than the first. Diana and Giles had really great chemistry and banter that had me rooting for them despite all of their complex issues. I particularly liked how well this book acknowledged their personal issues apart from their relationship issues. Ultimately what’s important in a good romance novel is personal growth so you root for the two characters to come together. Never Rescue a Rogue had me invested from the start and I cannot wait for book 3!

Thank you #Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was happy to receive a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher and author (the opinions herein are completely my own) because I read the first book in the Merriwell Sisters series and very much enjoyed it. I enjoyed this one, the second entry in the series, as well. I love a strong heroine who doesn't apologize for her own intelligence, even as she does her best to (somewhat) conform to the various expectations placed upon her. Even more, I love a hero who appreciates that quality in the heroine essentially from the start. Giles and Diana worked so well together. Giles knew Diana's strengths and was largely unafraid to lean on them for assistance in dealing with "The Dirty Secret." Diana knew the risks of revealing her own secrets but did not hesitate to use all her skills to assist Giles.

I did feel that the ending did not wrap up all loose threads, but the HEA is there. I would imagine, given the foreshadowing for the next book in the series, that those remaining threads will be tied off there. I don't necessarily think, however, that one would need to read either of the other books in the series to appreciate this one. Solid 4 stars.

Out on 11/8, this is book 2 in a series of stories about 3 sisters who grew up as common people and their adventures with nobility. I read this out if order, but it doesn’t really matter because it didn’t hurt the story. It’s part romance, part road trip, part heist - fun if you love Bridgerton, especially because our leading lady is a secret gossip journalist!!! Enjoy!

Giles Sinclair is the son of a duke. He is friends with Diana Merriwell, the clandestine reporter who investigates and exposes corruption. Drawn to each other, Diana must resist because she and her sisters, although rescued by a fortunate marriage, were born on the wrong side of the tracks. When Giles finds himself falling for her, he must resist because he has a horrible secret that, were it exposed, would ruin them both. So they battle their attraction while sleuthing out the truth about Giles' ancestry and fending off danger and challenges.

This book had a lot of promise, but it's somewhat slow-moving and repetitious. The use of cliches is introduced as a charming aspect of one character, but then everybody does it, sometimes more than once in a sentence, and not ironically, either. The ending is too abrupt. However, the two main characters are admirable and I enjoyed the happy ending.

Thanks St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review Virginia Heath’s Never Rescue A Rogue!

I remember reading Never Fall for Your Fiancée and falling in love with it, so I was excited to see she was expanding the series to include Diana’s story! These books are probably in my favorite top 3 regency reads.

I really enjoyed this book. I love regency as a category and feel it can be overdone sometimes, but this book is not once of those times. The characters had independent personalities. I loved seeing such a strong female character during regency times. I also felt the element of a mystery made the story that much better!

ALSO, the witty banter and insults between Diana and Giles *swoon worthy* 🥹

Virginia also did a great job including the supporting characters throughout the story. I loved being able to read more about characters I already fell in love with.

Fingers crossed for a third book to share Vee’s story? 😍

Heath is carving a name for herself in historical rom-coms. She follows the success of Never Fall for Your Fiancée (2021) with a frenemies-to-lovers story of an illegitimate duke and a clandestine journalist.

Dalton is a hilarious scoundrel with a huge heart, Diana is fierce and independent, and both have secrets and hate each other. The banter is witty and out of this world, clever and cunning. My favorite part was the character development and did not disappoint. well-written, humorous, chemestry, entertaining, and fun read.

Great story! I’m so glad I was chosen to preview the book because I’m a huge fan of Virginia Heath.

This is the 2nd of the Merriwell Sisters and I think my favorite so far. I can not wait to see what she has for Venus.

This is a great story with a mystery to unravel that moves very fast.

I just reviewed Never Rescue a Rogue by Virginia Heath. #NetGalley

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an eARC of this title. All opinions are honestly given and are my own.

In Never Rescue a Rogue, Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair never miss a chance to throw a barb or one-up the other, locked in a battle of wills after Diana’s sister and Giles’s best friend fall in love and marry. However, when questions of Giles’s true parentage threaten after his estranged father’s unexpected death, playboy Giles and intrepid reporter Diana must work together to discover the truth of Giles’s heritage in order to secure his title and the Sinclair estate. In their battle against time and rumors that have the potential to ruin all that Giles holds dear, Giles and Diana realize that months of squabbling only masked a long-simmering attraction and that the line between love and hate is much closer than they thought…

This was so much fun and definitely one of my favorite historical romances in ages. The banter, the pining, the plotting, and the characterization were all pitch-perfect. Although Never Rescue a Rogue was my first read in the series, it will definitely not be the last, and I look forward to keeping up with the other characters in the preceding (which I will go back and read) and following books. This was such an enjoyable read by Heath and is definitely a worthy addition to our collection. 4.25 stars.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Merriwell Sisters Series, Never Fall For Your Fiancé, but Never Rescue a Rogue exceeded my expectations. Diana and Giles had exceptional chemistry and sparkling banter, making them such a compelling couple to read,

In Never Fall for Your Fiancé, I was often rooting for Minerva because she just deserved a better life. And Hugh ended up growing on me, but the plot (the lie to Hugh's mother) always felt a little lite to me. Everything kept happening to them because of a lie he told. I'm not sure if Virginia Heath saw this criticism of her first book and course corrected in the second, but Giles was absolutely a leading man to root for. So many things happened to him beyond his control, and it was lovely to watch he and Diana outgrow their "dislike" of each other to solve the massive problems he was dealing with.

Another thing that truly set this novel apart were the delightful side characters. From Giles' butler to Diana's sister Vee, they all added their own magic to this lovely historical romance. I can't wait to get a glimpse of this couple in the next book where I'm sure we'll see Vee find her own happily ever after. Can't wait!

Review:
Once I figured out why there were bees on the cover this whole story really fell together for me. I liked the banter of Diana and Giles and I loved how well they meshed together. Diana's family also pushing Diana and Giles together was so entertaining - I loved seeing the relationship from the first book coming alive in life after their story finished. These books are very well done as stand alone stories but reading book one will definitely help set the stage for this plot as well.

I hated how the adults Giles and Diana should've trusted treated them so awfully, but I liked seeing them figure out what impact that should have on their lives.

Synopsis:
Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair only tolerate one another for the sake of their nearest and dearest. Everyone believes that the two of them are meant to be together, but Diana and Giles know that their constant pithy barbs come from a shared disdain—not a hidden attraction. Diana loves the freedom of working at the newspaper too much to give it up for marriage, and Giles is happily married to his bachelor lifestyle. But they do have one thing in common—the secrets they can’t risk escaping.

When Giles’ father, the curmudgeonly Duke of Harpenden unexpectedly turns up his toes, it’s only a matter of time before someone comes crawling out of the woodwork who knows the true circumstances of his only son's birth. As the threat of blackmail becomes real, Giles must uncover the truth of his parentage first, or else he and all those who depend upon him will be ruined—and dogged bloodhound Diana is his best hope at sniffing out the truth. As Giles and Diana dive into his family’s past, the attraction that the two of them insisted wasn’t there proves impossible to ignore. Soon, the future of the Sinclair estate isn’t the only thing on the line…

This book was so much fun! I liked the premise a lot more than the first - really I liked it a lot more than the first one in general. Their banter was top tier; both were such intelligent and funny characters, I couldn't get enough of them. I loved their travels and the protectiveness he felt over her, even when he was in the midst of such a situation. I was pleasantly surprised at how well various characters and situations kept the plot light-hearted when it could've easily been very heavy with Diana's work at the newspaper and Giles's family ordeal. I recommend this book and I'm looking forward to the third one!

📚✨Book Review✨📚

Never Rescue a Rogue
Author: Virginia Heath

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫

Note: I received a copy of this book to review via NetGalley, but all opinions are my own.

What I Liked:
🐝 I absolutely LOVED that Diana has a job and a purpose. She’s not sitting around darning socks, but has agency and gets stuff done. I don’t know if that’s always historically accurate but I eat it up none the less!

🐝 Giles’ declaration about 65% into this book. I was in tears! So beautiful 😭

🐝Really enjoyed Vee coming to life a bit more in this book. She was pretty one note in the first book from this series, but in this one she starts speaking up!

What I Didn’t Like:
🐝What is it about the parents in historical fiction that is oh so toxic? They are always so overbearing and controlling. Ugh 😑

Final Thoughts:
🐝 This book hasn’t even released yet and I’m not so patiently waiting for the couple I’m presuming is in the next book. I can’t believe I’m actually expected to wait for it! 😭😭😭
