I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.

Being a romance, the basic plot of this story was predictable, but that's why we read romances right? Because we want that predictability. That being said, there were a lot of fun twists and turns along the way, and even though I figured everything out before the reveals, it kept me guessing for a bit first, not entirely sure I was right even though my gut was telling me I was.

I liked how strong and independent Diana was and that Giles was a genuinely nice guy. Even though he put on a show for the general public, Diana was smart enough to see through it all along, brains that served her well in many areas of her life. And it was a bit heartbreaking to see how Giles felt like he needed to push people away because of his deep, dark secret. I couldn't help but root for these two to succeed in their goals and end up together in the end.

Overall I give Never Rescue a Rogue 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This book is the second in the series and is about Diana who loves her freedom and Giles who loves his bachelor life start working together only for an attraction to form. I read the first book in the series and I enjoyed reading about the oldest sister and now the younger one. The writing was well done and I enjoyed how the style was still the same as the first one. Sometimes the styles change which ruins the book but this one was not like that. I enjoyed the completely different storyline and thought it was better compared to the first one. The pacing was perfect for the story but not the romance. If you care about the plot more then this will be it for you. It was more adventurous and had more learning experiences for the MCs.

The main characters are Diana and Giles. Diana has a secret from her family that she doesn't
want them to know and Giles is struggling and needs help finding the truth about his family. I enjoyed their time together. They had such cute moments and there was development between them. I do have to say that I didn't see much self-development of the characters. There are also many side characters, some of you saw from the first one too. They were involved with the story but not a lot where the focus is on them. The romance was so cute but took so long. It's a very slow burn but it's a he falls in love first trope.

The ending was well done for this book and I'm excited to read the next one. The way it was left off, you can see how the story could be picked up in the future. This was a great read but I have to say that the romance just took way too long for me. It's like watching S2 of the Bridgerton where you only see the romance happen in the last 2 episodes. It's a great series to pick up, especially if you enjoy regency historical books with not-so-spicy romance.

This is the second book in the Merriwell Sisters trilogy. I enjoyed the plot of this one. Enjoyed Diana as a main character more than I enjoyed Minerva. My favorite character in this book was Vee though so I’m very excited to read her story. I felt like this is a book that is forgettable though, there was nothing to really connect my to the characters. The ending resolution was too abrupt. I felt like we could have used another chapter or two to show how the resolution works out. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martins Griffin for the e-arc. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Another winner! This is book 2 in the series and I was very pleased with it. This is the story of Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair. The first few chapters were a little heavy, but they were giving the setup of what was to come. Once I got through them the rest of the book flowed much faster. I enjoyed the banter between Diana and Giles. The character of Dalton as Giles right hand man was hilarious, and I liked him maybe more than the Butler in the first book. I definitely look forward to reading the third book in this series.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of Never Rescue a Rogue by Virginia Heath.

I liked the main characters in this story. Both Giles and Diana used outward personas to hide their vulnerabilities and keep themselves from getting hurt. As they interact they grow closer and eventually learn to trust each other. I liked that Diana has a strong personality and didn’t capitulate to whatever Giles said while Giles learns the meaning of having someone stand by you no matter what. The mystery part of the story was interesting and I thought it was resolved nicely. There were some twists with one of the side characters and I found him to be intriguing enough that I hope he gets his own story.

Overall, an enjoyable read and a nice addition to the Merriwell Sisters series.

Opposites attract in this British regency romance with notes of intrigue and mystery that has revealing hidden identities and relationships at the heart of it. Rakish Giles Sinclair is by all appearances doing his best to disappoint his father the Duke with his lavish, immoral lifestyle–while secretly making sound business deals and investments and doing right by his servants and tenants. Diana Merriwell is a confirmed spinster more interested in chasing a tidbit for her popular gossip column–while secretly undercover as a expose journalist. Their witty banter of putdowns is totally flirtation veiled as disdain, and when the Duke unexpectedly dies just as he’s about to announce his impending engagement, Giles fears his lineage will be exposed for a lie. Diana gets involved in helping him to prove his identity and of course, they fall for one another–but must resist!

The writing is juicy: rich with details of period etiquette, clothing and food, and the reparte is fast and satisfying. The book stands alone but seems to move the story of the first in the series forward. There are many funny and poignant moments, strong character development (including of secondary characters), and a darn good action story to boot.

Diana and Giles have always shared a witty banter that looks like shared disdain, but their closest relations truly believe the two would make a perfect match. However, they couldn’t be more different - he is the son of a Duke and loves lavish parties. Diana was been raised in a tough neighborhood, and though she is now living in Mayfair with family, her true passion is moonlighting with a newspaper. When Giles’ father suddenly passes, leaving him the newest Duke of Harpenden, he turns to Diana and her expert sleuthing to get to the bottom of a secret that has been haunting him for years.

Diana may be one of my favorite historical romance heroines! She is as smart as can be, loyal to a fault, and determined to hold on to whatever freedom she can grasp. Giles is lovely and funny, and his obvious goading of Diana is a clear sign he is infatuated. The whole book was just enjoyable! A great slowburn with an intriguing mystery, and characters I really loved! I hope we see youngest sister Vee’s love story in the next book!

Never Rescue a Rogue was the perfect book to scratch that Bridgerton/Regency itch. Diana and Giles made a great pair, and I loved following their story. I especially liked the mystery aspect of the book, as it gave it a little something beyond just the normal book tropes. I really enjoyed the side characters, particularly Dalton. I also want to go back and read the first book in this series, though you don't have to read it to understand and enjoy this book. Diana was a strong female lead that I really enjoyed, and Giles was definitely a good match for her.

This series just keeps getting better. Diane and Giles are fantastic characters. Boy did I fall for Giles right from the beginning. This book has everything, and I honestly loved the mystery part. It hooked me right from the beginning.

I can’t wait for the next instalment!

Thank you Netgally for the ARC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5/5

Never Rescue a Rogue 🖊️🍪
A friend encouraged me to keep going with the first book, as the second was better, and she was right! I do have a soft spot for the rake’s with a scandalous reputation who deep down are big softies. It’s the best type! And throw in a menacingly delivered “touch her and I’ll kill you” and I’m a puddle on the floor!

Diana and Giles’s story was positively delightful. I really loved the mystery that was investigated and uncovered, despite all of the hurdles put in their way. My heart broke for the two as they warred with themselves and their enemies to find the truth.

I also like how this story brought Vee further out of her shell! I can’t wait for her story next! And I have a feeling I know who her intended might be! 😉

Giles Sinclair’s father is the Duke of Harpenden. Both men hate one another. The Duke has never been a good father to him. The Duchess has passed away. Both men are hiding a “Dirty Secret” that would create a terrible scandal should it become known. When the Duke announces his engagement to a rather dim-witted girl, Giles is shocked and afraid for the life she would live. But, the Duke dies suddenly before the marriage can occur. Giles is now the Duke and learns that his father was incredibly wealthy and also very selfish to others.

Miss Diana Merriwell writes articles for the gossip column of “The London Tribune.” She also harbors a secrets that could cause a huge scandal should it be known. Her father was not a good man and her earlier life was difficult. When her sister married an Earl, she and her other sisters came under his care. The Earl is good friends with Giles and when Diana and Giles meet somewhere, they always spar.

I really loved the first book of this series and found the humor to be great. This book, however, was too full of angst and nail-biting. Diana and Giles have an attraction to one another but it got tiring as one or the other constantly tried to have the upper hand in the relationship. The secret that Giles tried to discover could have and should have been found much sooner. That is why this book dragged for me. My favorite character by far is Dalton and I hope the next story in the series will be about him. But as he is not a Merriwell sister, I fear I shall be disappointed. Maybe the author will include him in the story again at some point.

I love this historical fiction series. This is the second book, but it can totally work as a stand alone. The series focuses on the three intrepid Merriwell sisters.

Diana Merriwell is a journalist, and she's struggling to adjust to her newfound social class. She works in secret to bring down men who prey on women. Family friend, Giles Sinclair, similarly has secrets to hide. But when he realizes he needs an investigation, he turns to Diana for help.

Diana is awesome and such a great strong woman. And Giles is somewhat of a dream man. He's so selfless and wants to badly to be able to help others.

This book has so much pining and great chemistry. I loved the machinations of their family who could never quite decide whether they wanted to promote a relationship between Diana and Giles or not. The story was utterly engrossing and hard to put down

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.

4.5 starts rounded up

This was my first book my Virginia Heath and the second book in The Merriwell Sisters series. I do wish I had read the first book before reading this one because I think it would have given me a little more context for the characters, whereas I was thrust into the story and the world without much explanation. Diana and Giles can be polite to each other but they do not like one another. When Giles’s father, a Duke, dies suspicion around Giles’s birth arises and Giles must keep family secrets secret while Diana is trying to uncover the truth for a newspaper article she is writing. The pair then begin working together when Giles is threatened and take off on a journey around Britain.

I have decided that I am not a big fan of regency romances as trade paperbacks. This book wanted to be a rom-com so badly but wasn’t funny. I want heat in my historical romances and this had a barely there kiss and a brief open door seen at the 90% mark. Slow burns can be fine but there needs to be a tension and heat so thick around the two that it erupts into fireworks not a blink and you miss it scene. The concept itself was one that I’ve enjoyed in historical romances, but this book just didn’t work for me. I found myself skimming sections and did not begin caring about the characters until after the 50% mark. I think this is a book that is a me issue and that most readers will enjoy it.

This series is such a fun time and this one was no exception. I loved the two main characters and their banter with each other. The chemistry between the two main characters was so easy to see and I loved seeing their relationship with each other go from enemies to lovers.

I love regency era stories and this scratched that itch. The Bridgerton girlies are gonna love this.

I loved this one, even more than the first book in the series!! I can attest that you will love this Regency rom-com!! I loved the banter, the romance, the mystery, the slight slow burn and the side characters!! 😊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Giles Sinclair, a Duke and Diana Merriwell, a investigative and gossip reporter team up to uncover his family’s secrets, their search brings up more than they bargained for, including their feelings for each other.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It reads as an enemies to lovers story but it really isn’t. There’s underlying tension between Diana and Giles, they throw jibes, verbal sparring and clever words at each other and everyone else around them is convinced that there are feelings between them but they both deny it!! Their antagonistic behaviour towards each other is hilarious!! It’s so easy to root for them!!🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There’s a lot of witty banter, chemistry, swoon worthy moments, and hilarious moments that made me LOL!!! Dalton the pirate butler is comedic and has some pretty funny lines!! Also, Diana’s sister Vee, and her family is loving, sweet and supportive even with their matchmaking plays!! Spice is also 🥵
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The mystery is interesting, also the secrets that Giles and Diana keep add a little bit of intrigue!

Adapt this series to our screens!! 😂

I have the first book in my shelf and haven’t read it yet but you don’t need to to read this one.

I loved Diana and Giles pared together. They are both determined to right wrongs, stubborn and unrelenting attracted to each other while being friends. They also are harboring each others secrets: Giles not being the true heir to the dukedom and Diana being the secret writer at a newspaper. It’s a good story, a couple slow places but mostly an e notable read! Loved the characters including all the side characters. The vulnerability and emotion of the MCs was great, really well developed. I liked the flip on the traditional historical romance.

Overall I’d definitely recommend for those who love historical romance and enemies to lovers. It’s heartwarming, modern twist, witty and sassy banter, and a good love story.

Another read that I unfortunately haven’t quite finished yet but feel like I have a good feel on already to give a review. I will update later if feelings change or if I feel the need to add more.
I loved the first book in this series and when I had heard a second book was coming out following Diana I was so excited! She was such a spit-fire, strong headed, and fun character in her sisters story, so I was more than happy to see her as one of the MC’s in this story.
I do like that Giles is a bit more mysterious than Hugh. I found High could be a bit negative and stuffy, so a love interest that had an air of mystery and was a bit more carefree was much appreciated.
All in all I am enjoying this read, but find it is a bit too much like Bridgerton; more so the show than the books. That being said though, I love Bridgerton and think any fans of the show would likely enjoy this book a lot!

I loved reading about Giles and Diana's story so much! They were my favorite characters from book 1, so this was a delight to read. Regency romance, family drama, and mystery are all included in this book. I really appreciate the author's intentional creation of women who are independent and intelligent. Diana had a job that she loved and the support of her family for success in her career. Giles is first portrayed as a party boy type of person looking to embarrass his father in whatever way he can. The reveal of his true character was excellent! I loved the dynamic between he and Diana as they worked to piece together his family history. There were some minor flaws with overused descriptive phrases (ie. "butter wouldn't melt in his mouth"). This phrase is unusual enough that it caught me off guard each time it was used and would slow the flow of the story for me.

I would definitely recommend this book and cannot wait to see what is in store for Vee's story next!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and the author for an eARC of this book.

I think my main take away was it wasn’t like the first book. And by that I mean it wasn’t funny and that’s what I came in looking for. Once I ruminated and got over that fact I feel like this was a pretty good historical romance…. But I was hoping to re-live the fun of Never Fall for Your Fiancée.

Second sister, Diana is secretly an investigative reporter dishing all the dirty secrets of London. She’s got plenty of enemies and plenty of secrets. While family friend Giles, a Dukes heir, needs help unraveling his own family secrets in order to save his inheritance.

This opposites attract romance with plenty of close proximity and a shared goal made for good reading. The MC’s originally introduced in book 1, had plenty of growth and development through this book.

I mean, who doesn’t fall every time for the lovable rogue with a heart of gold?!?

As I said, this isn’t a comedy. There were a lot of dark issues, not uncommon for a historical romance, but I did not anticipate them in this book. This book is worth a read, but definitely go in expecting a traditional historical romance and you’ll enjoy what you get.
