Loved the format of this. I think this is a great option for pulling in reluctant readers. Educational but fun with good activities to enhance learning.
A fun educational book for younger kids to learn about Greece. I really enjoyed this book and had my boys read the book also. They really liked it.

Thanks to NetGalley and its author for providing me with an advanced copy.
When the Histronauts travel back in time to ancient Greece, they’ll need your help to uncover the secrets of the past. Join them on their journey as they visit the Acropolis, watch the activities that inspired the Olympic Games, and paint masks for a thrilled Greek tragedy at the amphitheater. With an exciting mix of graphic novel, facts, and activity, The Histronauts series is a perfect way to bring history to life.
it's a good graphic novel, it tells us the history of greek, while they were in an adventure solving problems in there.
I really like it but at the same time, it was really bored, i don't know why.
3.5
This was a fun story about ancient Greece. I think kids who are already interested in the topic will appreciate this one. Would recommend for a library.
the characters (especially luna and newton, my favorites among the cast) are simply adorable and beautifully designed. the cover design is the reason i wanted to read this book in the first place. the facts presented throughout the book are written in language that is simple and easy to understand so readers aren't bombarded with information and the book provides worksheets and activity pages at the end that i'm sure will prove to be a lot of fun to kids of all ages..i can just see this book being taught in classrooms. i would have loved a book like this when i was a kid! *thank you, netgalley, for the eARC!*
This is an excellent graphic novel for kids to learn about Ancient Greece in a fun and easy to understand way. Love the characters and the crafts/projects included for a full spectrum learning opportunity!
This was a fun filled read full of really cool facts! I also really enjoyed the art style and the overall layout!
Thankyou to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
A Greek Adventure is a middle grade graphic novel book. The illustrations were well done and the book flowed nicely, including lots of interesting facts. Kids that like Greek stories and even adults looking for a fun visual representation of ancient Greek culture will find a lot to like here.
This is a fun way for kids to learn about Ancient Greece. It has lots of vocabulary, hands on activities, a game, and historical information. It covers the culture, language, architecture, and philosophy. It even has a questions and answers at the end to test comprehension and memory.
I love that this is presented in an easy to understand way. History is presented like a story, rather than from a rigid textbook. My daughter is 8 years old and loved the illustrations. I can't wait to do the activities with her!
This is a great resource for homeschool. I also love that it follows a timeline, which makes it perfect for a child receiving a Classical Education.
Cute book, fun illustrations. The crafts and activities look like they are age appropriate for the book's intended audience. There is just enough interesting facts without overwhelming a younger reader. Would definitely recommend for younger readers who are just developing an interest in Ancient Greece.
A Greek Adventure by Frances Durkin and Grace Cooke is such a cool, informative graphic novel!
The Histronauts, a group of kids who are interested in history, are transported by a magical ticket to Ancient Greece where they learn about the daily life there. This story is a nice mix of questions and facts about Greek culture, food, and traditions. I loved reading these along with hands on projects in each chapter. The book is informative and fun and I think it's a great way to make learning about history interesting for school age kids.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Even though it's a middle grade thing, I enjoyed read.
It's funny because I actually learnt a lot of things about Greek culture and ancient ways I know nothing about.
I'll definitely recommend it
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this arc.
This was a lovely graphic novel with great illustrations and with so much information though out this novel. I would honestly recommend this for kids and adults who are going or have an interest in Greece and its history.
This was a really great, informative graphic novel! I really liked the drawing style and I learned a lot from it. Would be great for kids (or even adults) to read before traveling to Greece, or to just pick up if you're curious about the country and its history.
I’m having difficulty reading it in my kindle, therefore I download it again but in pdf file and It was much better experience reading it. Thank You Netgalley and the publisher for this beautiful copy.
Honestly I’m not a fan of historical fiction or any non-fiction book, but I can finish this book within a fews days only. This is remarkable! I love the storyline and the visual that can help us understand more about the fact. Made of full- colour illustration definitely attract the youngster to read this book. However I will recommend it to key stage 2 which I personally think that secondary student won’t give much attention because of the content that I felt too kiddy.
I think information should be in shorter version in one page so that easy to read and understand the fact. I love the time traveller concept that they use in this book. They recreate the scene from the ancient Greek which I like it most.
I received an arc from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
So as I'm trying to branch out into more childrens' books, (which is something I never even did that much as I child, I mean, I read Watership Down when I was about 8 because I enjoyed the tv show I should really reread it as an adult, I might actually see it completely different now).
I would have loved this book as a child. It is filled with a lot of facts about ancient Greece, in bite-sized, easy to read chucks. I have studied Ancient Greek and Latin, for three and six years respectively in school, which of course also included other cultural aspects, yet there were still a few facts I didn't know. (not many, but this isn't aimed at people who studied Ancient Greek xD).
I really enjoyed that this book didn't shy away from the 'darker' aspects, like slavery and animal sacrifice, while still commented on it, and explained that it was bad, by our modern protagonist.
I thought the ancient Greek man being all for women voting in democracy was cute too.
This book also has some activities, and I feel like the activities feel mostly for younger children than some of the information. Several of the crafts especially feel too simple, but I loved the wordsearch using the Ancient Greek alphabet.
There wasn't much of a plot and the main focus was clearly delivering the information in a fun way. I could totally see this being used in the first class of a school that teaches Ancient Greek, or even just in a history class when talking about Ancient Greece. This is a very educational book, more so than a "read" book. And I don't mean that in a bad way at all. but I read informational books for fun when I was in elementary school, I loved learning things about stuff I liked.
The art is cute, and I especially loved the cat during the sport scenes. I also liked the hidden monster idea, which instantly made me want to go back and look for them.
The slight disconnect between the level of some of the activities and the level of the information is the main reason why I gave this 4 stars. I think young me would have given it that. Old me... lol, 28-year old me would probably give this book about a 3/3.5 stars. Mostly because I already knew most of the information, so it gave me little new info, and I would have liked there to be a bit more plot. Normally I base my goodreads reading almost completely on my current opinion (though with rereads I often average them if there's a big change), but because I know I would have loved this book, and gladly continued this whole series in elementary school, I'm rating my 3.5 stars up to a 4 here. Because this book is very good in what it does, and has great educational value. It is one of those books I wish I could somehow use at my schools, if only my students knew more English.
I thought this was a really cute book. I enjoyed it! My only problem was the formatting was a little weird which made it difficult for me to read it, however, as this is an ARC, I understand that this is NOT the final product. The artwork is beautiful, the story is lively and filled with adventure. Definitely would recommend it!🥰
Oh boy.
I was expecting something more with a storyline going into this book because of the pitch. I knew it was intended for a younger audience and that's not an issue for me - I do enjoy some middle grade / children books.
However the tone of the book was waaay too young for me.
I still like the concept and I'm confident that children would enjoy this book.
The book contains a lot of information and very interactive even though I didn't care for them since I'm not the intended audience.
Long story short it wouldn't be fair for me to give a low rating because it's my fault that I had different expectations. I'm giving it a 4 stars because if I was the intended audience for this book I would have a good time reading it.
*Thank you NetGalley and North Star Editions for providing me a digital copy of this book.
This is a fantastic resource for students in elementary school who are interested in or studying ancient civilizations. There is a bit of a story line where characters are learning about the past, as well as several different content or themed pages, such as the Olympics, art and daily life. With a variety of facts and information as well as some activities, craft ideas and recipes, I think that many students would be interested in this book. I can definitely see my grade 3 students being excited to read this book and the other books in the series when we study ancient civilizations. I so appreciate Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book! I look forward to purchasing a copy for my classroom once it is published!
My daughter and I enjoyed this book quite a bit. She got the most excited about the activities and the recipes included in the book. It even got her to try some new foods!
