I can’t believe I didn’t review this earlier, sorry! I like all the Fairy Garden mysteries, I love a good amateur detective! I also enjoy the magical realism of the fairies in the fairy garden, who’s to say they don’t exist?
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
A Hint of Mischief is a really great mystery. Courtney really shines as both a fairy garden master and in her sleuthing, with the help of her fairy, Fiona. The mystery was really well-written and kept me guessing until the reveal. I really didn't suspect who the killer ended up being. I really enjoy this series and can't wait to see what happens next for Courtney and her friends.
I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end.
I love this mystical series and the plot to this installment was very good. The main characters are delightful and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us next.
Many thanks to Kensington and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another excellent edition to a wonderful series! Full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting more and enjoying each moment until the end when the killer is caught!
I know that it might sound silly but after reading this latest Fairy Garden Mystery I REALLY want to attend fairy party, or at least find a shop where I can make an awesome fairy garden. This story starts out right away with a party of interesting characters who knew each other in college, a mysterious thief, a murder, the unexplained appearance of fairy doors, and another fairy for Fiona to interact with. Courtney and her friends are busy, busy, busy, getting everything coordinated for the full sized fairy/birthday party from party games to decorations including a mural and tasty foods (such as cauliflower poppers and bacon & avocado toast). Courtney, much like her righteous Fairy friend Fiona, has a strong sense of doing the right thing, and seeing to it that there is justice for the victim and a champion for the innocent suspects. This is a unique sort of Holmes and Watson relationship with a good dose of positivity, fun, and recipes in each story. These are stand-alone stories but you will enjoy them so much that you will want to read them in order.
I enjoy this series so much. This one finds Courtney hosting a Fairy birthday party for an adult. The mystery is well plotted and keeps you interested through every page and reading this series always makes me want to make a Fairy garden. Love this series, I also love the fact that you don't have to read them in any particular order to enjoy them.
Courtney Kelly talks to fairies. It’s her job, of course. She runs a fairy garden and tea shop business in Carmel. There are classes for making fairy gardens and all the items anyone would need to build their own or she can customize them as gifts. When she’s offered her biggest job yet, she says yes, but that doesn’t mean she’s confident she can pull it off. The words ‘money is no object’ spark creativity and fear in equal amounts. After all, this is no kiddie party. It’s for adults. Farrah Lawson, a famous actress who met the others as a sorority sister, is joining the birthday bash.
Although Farah shows perfect manners to her public, in private, she’s not so nice. During a spa outing, there are screams—she thinks the technician ruined the arch of her eyebrows. Meanwhile, the other women are tired of Farrah’s smart remarks. When Farrah is poisoned, there’s no lack of suspects. Is it a new enemy or an old friendship gone sour? Despite the tragedy, the party will go on.
Courtney has her hands full with a commission for a dozen large fairy gardens, more for a charity event, and there’s a thief running rampant through the area, something Carmel has never had. If that’s not enough, her ex shows up and wants to take Courtney to dinner, so she can meet his wife and kids. Oh, yay.
Thanks to her fairy, Fiona, Courtney finds clues others miss. If only she can put them together to find the solution before the friends leave town.
This is the third book in the series. Fiona is growing into her wings and is a delight. Courtney has convinced her doubting father that even though he doesn’t believe in fairies, others do and can see them. Her business is going well and it looks like she might have a love life. She’s someone you’d love to spend time with, making fairy gardens, and hoping to see a fairy for yourself.
Courtney shares recipes for apricot preserves tea cake with a warning that it’s a very sticky cake, brookies (brownie and cookie combo), chocolate crinkle cookies, fairy cookies, raspberry lemon scones, avocado toast with bacon, green salsa topping, cauliflower poppers, and ranch dressing. Gluten-free recipes for each included.
This has quickly become a favorite series for me. Courtney is wonderful to follow along with. She could easily be a BFF and that is before you add the fairy gardens as well as the fairies themselves. This time she is hired to put together a party for a socialites fortieth birthday. Add in a famous person and things get interesting. When she turns up dead Courtney has to look into things. Add in her magical fairy network to really make things good. I was hooked from page one and unable to stop until I hit the very end. I can not wait to see what happens next time. A truly magical must read for cozy fans. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This is a series that I can visually see because I grew up by Carmel. This story was so fun I loved the party planning for the fortieth birthday. I found the fatal facial to be a very intriguing murder and there was so many suspects I couldn't decide who the actual murder was. This book was whimsical and delightful and I highly recommend.
What a fun series. This is book 3 in the Fairy Garden Mystery series and it's a cute fun read. Courtney has thrown a few fairy garden parties--for kids. But if a local socialite is willing to dip into her trust fund for an old sorority sister's fortieth birthday bash, Courtney will be there with bells on. To make the job even more appealing, a famous actress, Farrah Lawson, is flying in for the occasion, and there's nothing like a celebrity cameo to raise a business's profile. With the help of Fiona, her garden fairy, Courtney must solve the murder of the guest of honor. Introduces several new fairy characters and opens the next chapter for book 4. Can be read as a stand alone but you'll want to read them all.
Courtney Kelly ahs been hired for an adult fairy garden party to celebrate a sorority sister's 40th birthday. The murder of one of the guests creates a need for Courtney to find the culprit.
This is an engaging series that I enjoy. Every book makes me want to create my own fairy garden. It also makes me wish that I had a fairy of my own. I love Fiona! I'm so happy that she is trying so very hard to stay on the straight and narrow so that she can achieve her adult wings. I really like the introduction of a new fairy and the appearance by fairies we have met in the past.
The mystery of the fairy doors in the neighbor was handled quite well. Another thing I need to do a little reading on.
I am quite pleased to see that Courtney and Brady are moving their relationship in a positive manner. Their adventures away from their businesses to pursue photography is a nice touch.
Courtney often sticks her nose where it does not belong much to the dismay of Detective Dylan Summers and Courtney's father. She does have good instincts but puts herself into harm's way.
The victim was the ultimate mean girl even twenty years after college. It was difficult to feel sympathy for her when we learn of some of her nasty deeds.
The mystery is well plotted. The twists and turns kept me guessing up until Courtney discovered the murderer.
This has quickly become a favorite series and I look forward to the next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Hint of Mischief is the third book in Daryl Wood Gerber's 'A Fairy Garden Mystery' series.
Ii follows Courtney Kelly owner of a fairy garden shop and tearoom, in Carmel, California.
She has her very own fairy that lives in her shop and has been visited by fairies since childhood.
This book centers around a fancy 40th birthday fairy garden party that Courtney is planning for a client. The guest list includes some of the socialites in town and a famous actress, all old sorority sisters. Things do not go as planned when one of the ladies ends up dead. This series is magical and so imaginative. I always look forward to the next installment. Highly recommended! A very special and uniques cozy series.
What a glorious and light hearted cozy. The characters in this book are quirky and fun. The story moves along at a rapid pace. I thought the story was sweet but quite brilliant. The author leads you on a merry chase that is both thrilling and delightful. I loved it.
Princess Fuzzypants here: Not everyone in Carmel can see fairies. In fact some people who long to see them still cannot while others scoff and mock those who can. Fiona is Courtney’s fairy and together with Pixie, her Ragdoll cat and her employee Joss, they create a magical store where even those who cannot yet see them can create a fairy garden in the hopes of attracting a fairy.
Courtney has put on several children’s parties but is taken aback when asked to do an adult one. It is to celebrate the birthday of one of the sorority sisters who are coming, reuniting for the first time in ages. Included in the guest list is a famous actress whose professional reputation is in direct conflict with the cruel person who arrives. She has backstabbed several of her friends and continues to snipe at them even while she is there. That is until one of them has had enough. Now Courtney must plan the party, run her business and her life and find a killer. The local police want her to leave it alone. Courtney and Fiona are determined.
They are successful but Courtney is not subtle and Fiona must step in. Not only does she help save her human, she gets a reward for her service. It is a whimsical cozy with delightful characters. It is a perfect book for a summer afternoon. Five purrs and two paws up.
I have a new author that I must now add to my list of those to follow and read everything they write. My to be read pile is already huge!
Now about the book. What a delightful read! This is the 3rd in a series but very easily read as a stand alone. The beginning of my kindle version has a list of all the characters & who they are. I was a bit concerned that I would be overwhelmed with the number of characters in the story. However, I did not need to refer back to the list and everyone fell into place without confusion. A very well written story that is pretty typical of the cozy genre. No swearing or hanky panky. It took me a chapter, after the murder, to realize this may be the first cozy murder mystery I've read where not only did the main character not discover the body but you never see the crime scene. How unique! I found the fairies to be fun and not overwhelmingly fantasy like. A nice feeling of believability . I really enjoyed the writing & story and the finale included recipes & a sneak peak at the next book in the series. I will continue to read the series. Thank you #netgalley and Kensington for my eARC.

Courtney is thrilled to host a birthday bash (that will have a celebrity guest!) at her fairy garden and tea shop, Open your Imagination! This is the third book in the Fairy Garden Mystery series and it continues to get better. I really like the bit of whimsy mixed in with the mystery. I did think it took a little time to get to the mystery in this one, but once we got there I thought it’s as an interesting one. I did think there was one clue in particular that had me convinced of the murderer earlier than I normally decide but it was a fun mystery either way. Courtney is asked to throw a fairy party for a bunch of grown women which is a little different, but she’s excited to do it. The women went to college together and Courtney realizes they have secrets and drama that has followed them. Courtney also has to deal with the ex that dumped her and his new wife visiting her town. I really liked the very end and the promise it gives for another book.
Courtney is hired to organize a fairy party for a local shop owner's birthday. She is being celebrated by her sorority sisters. When one of the guests is found dead, can Courtney, with the help of her fairy friend, find out what happened?
I really like this series. I enjoy learning about fairy gardens so much. I like Courtney as a character and enjoy seeing her relationships with everyone in Carmel. I love the growth from Courtney and her fairy Fiona! I can't wait to see what's next!
this is my first novel from the fairy garden mystery series and i will definitely be diving back in for more! as someone who loves all things magical and whimsical, i was really excited to see the mashup between fantasy and mystery! i adored fiona and the other fairies… they may be tiny but their personalities are certainly double their size! one thing i look for in any mystery series is the characters’ descriptions because with so many neighbors in a town like carmel-by-the-sea, remembering everyone can get out of hand. but i thought the prominent faces in this novel were well-developed and memorable.
i especially loved courtney! she’s super friendly with everyone and seems like a gal you could spend all afternoon chatting with! on a different note, i also loved how there were recipes included in the back of the book. if you happen to pick this one up, i highly recommend baking the brookies! they were such a hit in my household and it’s already been requested for my sister’s birthday! next on my list to try is the recipe for raspberry-lemon scones! these recipes appear in the novel, too, which makes it even more exciting to test out
