this book for me personally took a long time to get into, the story line dragged a little to much and i felt that half of the story did not need to be there, i enjoyed the characters and how they was described because i could picture them clearly in my mind which i like, the story was enjoyable but i did find it a bit over the top.
Absolutely loved Ruarc and Chevonne, this is another great entry in Donna Grant's series. The angst is palpable and this couple goes through it and overcomes so many obstacles to get them where they need to go. Loved rooting for this couple and the backstory really adds depth to it when things do finally work out. I also appreciated the balancing of steam with plot and wit.
An edge of your seat emotionally thrilling ride from beginning to end. Highly entertaining, emotionally thrilling, action packed romantic adventure filled with interesting charters and landscape, desire and passion.
I didn't expect Ruarc to get his own book, but I probably should have. And it was a good one. I really liked how Ruarc and Chevonne had already known each other and been in a relationship before. Though 300 years ago seems like a really long time. I was thrilled at this idea because finally we don't get another insta-love story. We already knew that Ruarc was a pretty stand up guy, and it did seem like Chevonne was a good match for him. So when she makes a ridiculously stupid decision, my like of the book went down. Because come on. She really should have been smarter than that and it made me mad. Though not as mad as the end of the book did.
Poor Ruarc finds himself in a hopeless situation when we begin. Between being forced to be a part of the Others to protect his family and having Rordan even see him with them, he truly feels he has no one to turn to for help and nowhere to go. But he'll find his luck changed greatly all within a day. First, Rordan finds him and lets him know that he knows he would never willingly side with them. Then Ruarc's only love shows back up in his life, forgives him for why he left her, and tells him she will never leave him again. Of course he is absolutely terrified for Chevonne's safety, but dare he hope for some happiness?
Having Ruarc as part of the Others seems like it might actually be a good thing now. Rordan and the other Reapers plan to use him as a spy and to feed the enemy false information that would lead them into a trap. It's a plan that could really work. Unfortunately, Ruarc trusts Chevonne too much and doesn't realize that she too was forced into a hopeless situation which calls for her to betray him. With devastating consequences.
At this point we have learned who the one in charge of the six is and her relationship with Chevonne. But after this fight we learn why she's doing all of this. And let's just say this lady's crazy. There's a whole fae history we never knew and she's determined to take back what she believes is rightfully hers....the whole world. See? Crazy. We get one last fight where many people die, but not the one that has to. And boy was that incredibly frustrating. In the end, the Reapers may not have won, but they gained a new family member who just might find some happiness after all.
Xaneth does make a couple appearance here. While still a big help against the enemy, he's also the reason they don't win this time around. He still doesn't know what is driving him to find and destroy evil and it's really taking its toll on him. On the plus side, he's no longer actively pushing Aisling away. He doesn't like how it seems it's getting easier and easier for her to find him though.

A second chance at love, while trying to save the world. This is Ruarc and Chevonne's story. It is more emotional than Ms. Grant's other stories so be prepared.
Dark Alpha’s Passion (Reapers #14). By Donna Grant. 2022. DL Grant, LLC (ARC eBook).
While the Light and Dark Fae’s fight pulls Ruarc and Chevonne into the world of double agents, secret organizations, vengeance and unlikely friendships, the two get their second chance at love. Overall, a likable couple that are easy to root for. And I am intrigued as to the future role of Xaneth.
The Reapers are back and with their newest ally they have the fight of their lives of their hands. The battles for these Fae and their leader Erith, aka Death, just continue to intensify as the power-hungry Fae Others try to take over not just all of the Fae but the entire world and the only thing standing between that fate currently is the Reapers. Their most unlikely ally is the Ruarc who was forced into the service of the Others when they threatened the family he has always been responsible for and despite the friendship he formed with one of the Reapers he knows his days are numbers. Donna Grant has a way of breaking her readers' hearts, bringing us to tears, and then allowing her lovers an HEA that reminds us why we love her writing so much. I have enjoyed every one of these stories, even as they have crossover with the Dragon Kings and the plots have gotten more and more complicated, but I can honestly say this one was one of my favorites and had me in tears the longest. Ruarc is doing all he can to stay alive and keep his family safe when he is approached to be essentially a double agent, but then to make his life even more complicated and deadly his lost true love comes back into his life unexpectedly. With everything on the line he knows he has to trust the Reapers in order to survive and keep all those he loves alive, but can he trust all those around him or will the most unexpected betrayal be the end of them all? Ok so before I share some opinions I will just say that when you read this story make sure you have tissues (or in my case a hanky) handy because boy you’re going to need something for all the tears. Ruarc has had a lot of shit handed to him in his life, bad choices he had to make, and responsibilities that split his alliances, but through all that he maintained his goodness and the love he carried for his woman and his family. I loved seeing him stepping up and giving his trust to not only the Reapers despite his fears, but also to the woman that owns his heart, because truly where is love without ultimate trust. Chevonne was his everything but he gave her up for what he thought was a good reason and when she pushes her way back into his life, despite the danger it puts her in, he gives his trust even when others doubt her. Chevonne was a great character who had to go through a LOT in this novel, my heart truly went out to her and I cried so much for her, but I loved how she loved unconditionally and stood up for those she loved against even the most terrifying of enemies. Their love story was a terrifying roller coaster with a lot of flips and stomach dropping heights, but in the end they found their way into one another’s arms and their faith in one another was rewarded. I love that Grant gives us an HEA even if she forces her lovers to deal with a lot in the course of their relationship. Grant never lets me down and Passion will go down on the shelves as one of my favorite of this series for sure, but I am dying for more and cannot wait to see what comes of a few more very important characters and the folks that earn their love.
Anyone who follows my review will know how much I love Donna Grant's books so I was delighted to be able get my hands on a copy of Dark Alpha's Passing, which is the 14th book in the Reaper series.
I thought that this was another great book in the series!
I really enjoyed the story and I though that it was really well written.
It had a well developed and fast flowing story line, there were great characters and they were well developed and had some great interaction - it had battle, passion, romance and was a sexy read overall - I was completely absorbed as I flew through the pages and I had read it from start to finish in a few hours
It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended!
Reapers are back again and are trying to stop others. I read several book from the series, although this story did captured me it didn't slay me or leave me breathless. Chevone and Rurac are given second chance and the story/fight with the others is just beginning.
This is book 14 in the Author's Dragon series , being set in the sub series featuring the Reapers and in my opinion reading the previous books would be of benefit to set the characters in place .
This Ruarc and Chevonne's story where love has been lost and now re-found .
Ruarc has been using his skills as a spy to further the fight against evil but has until now stayed away from his love . But now he has decided that the risks of reconnecting with Chevonne are justified even if it puts him at odds with his brethren .
This is another entertaining book in the series in which the romance almost takes second place to the scene setting to future books , especially the 'X' storyline- but still thoroughly enjoyable
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
This book was provided to me by netgalley. My review is 100% honest and my own opinion.
This is a story from Donna Grant's Reaper series which features the brotherhood of elite assassins who are at war with the Faye.
This story holds different points of view of the war. The reapers, the Faye others, the druids, the dark Faye and the light Faye. This all with a splash of romance.
I really enjoyed Ruarc's and Chevonne's story. It is a case of love lost and love found. Their story shows how they have to deal with their obstacles before getting their happily ever after.
I will definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series especially because this is book 14. But as I was reading this book by itself I was limited to knowing the world that Grant has made for us. Other than that I did enjoy what I did read and we'll have to read the rest of the series to be able to get the full benefit.
A big thank you to NetGalley and DL Grant LLC for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is number 14 in a series. I think it is better to have read one of the earlier books to make this make this one make more sense. I mean you can read it as a stand alone, but you might be frustrated. There are a lot of names to learn in a short amount of time. The character building happens in other books as well. Although I liked this, maybe I am ready for something new and different. Not sure, I just didn't love it. For me this is a 3.5. This is Ruarc and Chevonne's story. Its pretty predictable but still a good read.
Donna Grant continues her series about the Reapers in Dark Alpha's Passion. The beloved of the newest reaper is ensnared by the Dark Fae as she is blackmailed to save her family. Can her love save her? Read and see.
This was another solid installment in the very long and winding road to Reaper/Dragon King/Others/Six Showdown. While we don't quite get there in this one, we are still building to a nice finale.
As this is a reaper book, we know that someone needs to be betrayed, get killed, and turned into a Reaper, right? Those are the rules, so why am I surprised every time it happens? Ruark has been trying to be a good spy, a good son, and stay as far away from Chevonne, his lady love, to keep everyone safe and hopefully help the good guys win. At a pivotal point in the fight, he decides it's worth the risk, and reconnects with Chevonne. She's a fighter but there are a lot of things at play here that put them both in an unwinnable situation.
Lucky for us, there are lots of very powerful players already in the game. With all the action and excitement you'd expect, I think this book focuses more on that than the romance here and I'm not mad at it. This book does help along the X storyline too, and we will hopefully get some very satisfying payoff in the coming books.
Again I’m blown away by this author! At some point I expect to loose my connection to this series, since we are now on book 14…. NOPE. This series just keeps you fully in tune with the characters and how great the writing progresses with so much attention to details without repetition. Will I read another 14, absolutely!
Book fourteenth in Donna Grant’s Reaper series, Dark Alpha's Passion is Light Fae Ruarc and Chevonne Quinlan’s story. A compelling story with engaging characters and appearances from many characters we already know. Second chances, vengeance, and mistrust, Dark Alpha's Passion is a gripping read and one I thoroughly enjoyed
Will the Reapers be able to beat the Six at their own game? Ruarc knows that he has a choice to make but will he decide to fight on the right side? He knows that he can count on Rordan but will the rest of the Reapers join the fight?
Chevonne can’t believe that Ruarc is in front of her she has waited so long to be with him again. But everything changes when the Six holds her family hostage. She has no choice but to betray Ruarc she just didn’t realise that she would lose him to Death.
Will Ruarc take Death’s offer? What will it mean for him & Chevonne?
Another great read in the series. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Decent read for jumping in without having read the others in the series. I did find it a little predictable but that's not always a bad thing.
DARK ALPHA’S PASSION is the fourteenth instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult REAPER paranormal/fantasy romance series- a spin off from the author’s Dark Kings series. This is Light Fae Ruarc and Chevonne Quinlan’s story line. DARK ALPHA’S PASSION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is a continuing premise throughout.
SOME BACKGROUND: The Reapers (believed to be a folk lore amongst the Fae) are a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death (aka Erith), on their own deathbed, to do her bidding-Death is the judge and jury; the Reapers are the executioners. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. All Reapers must follow two rules: never to fall in love; and never to reveal their existence to anyone but a group known as the Others, have declared themselves the rulers of the Fae, and their next ‘mission’ is to take down the Reapers, having failed to destroy the Dark Kings.
Told from third person perspective including Chevonne and Ruarc, DARK ALPHA’S PASSION sees a new member added to the ranks of Erith aka Death’s army of Reapers. Approximately three hundred years earlier Light Fae Ruarc broke the heart of the woman he loved, a woman who continues to haunt his fantasies and dreams. Fast forward to present day wherein Ruarc will come face to face with said woman, Chevonne, another Light Fae, but a woman who is about to be pulled into the depths of betrayal and power. A war is on the horizon with the group known as the Others, a war in which Ruarc will not survive. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Ruarc and Chevonne, and the potential fall-out as betrayal forces Ruarc and Chevonne to take sides in a battle neither won can ultimately win.
Meanwhile, Aisling continues to search and keep track of Xaneth, a Fae damaged and broken by torture and brutality but a man determined to exact revenge wherever evil lives.
The relationship between Ruarc and Chevonne is one of second chances but Ruarc is caught be head and heart knowing that he is about to betray the people in charge. Chevonne has no idea what is about to unfold, and finds herself forced to make a decision to save the people she loves. The lone $ex scenes is passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the return of several of the couples we have previously met including Erith and her mate Cael, Rordan , Talin and Neve, Catriona and Fintan, Bradach and Maeve, Sorcha and Cathal, Balladyn, Daire, Kyran,Torin, Dubhan, Aisling and Xaneth. We are introduced to Chevonne’s cousin Cillian, her parents Hugo and Clare, and sisters Eileen and Shannon, as well as her father’s sister Lena, and the return of the Druids from the Isle of Skye.
DARK ALPHA’S PASSION is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and obsession, and rekindling love. The fast paced premise is entertaining and revealing; the romance is captivating; the characters are charismatic and lively.

I love this book!!!
He was the character that I was not expecting to be part of the group, yet he fit well. The way he was introduced into the series was really good. It was seamless like had always been part of the Reapers.
As for the love story, I love how much a second chance love was continued. Like any high society people, it was always about family standing. How will people look at them, what will people say if they become the lowest of the low. The reason was shallow but given the standing of the female lead. I understand where he is coming from..
Then there is Xen... I am waiting for this one!!!!!!!
I cannot wait for this!
When I read this book, I love how many times the Cael and Death were included, You can see how much they value each of the reapers the have.. they are after all family. Looking forward to the next book and the next new series!
