Emma Falls has a secret; one that has her on the run. She and her friend Serena have a plan. Emma will take over teaching Serena's statistic and game theory classes at DC University while living in her home. This will give Emma and her daughter Trudy a reprieve while earning some much needed cash to help her in the next leg of her journey.
Jethro Hanson has many secrets. He and Serena are both professors at DC University as well as members of the ragtag team of agents known as the HDD. When Serena suddenly leaves the group with no real explanation Jethro becomes curious about her replacement but he learns Emma is a tough nut to crack. As Jethro and Emma begin to warm towards each other and Emma learns that she can rely on Jethro a monster from Jethro's time with M16 emerges. Can Jethro and Emma work together to overcome both their demons?
In the other Deep Ops stories, Jethro has been a steady and reliable character. Obviously, with this fifth installment being his story we really get some great insight in to his character and where he comes from. Jethro has great snark and a huge heart. The relationship that develops between Jethro and Emma's daughter Trudy melted my heart. Emma is a woman with great strength. Her past could have damaged her but she has overcome many hurdles in the hopes of giving her daughter a life better than she has had.
Unforgiven is a fast paced read that I completed in one sitting. Zanetti is great with both character and world building. Having continuous stories in a series where the characters appear in each certainly eliminates the confusion one feels at the start of a new story. I felt like I was revisiting old friends.
I loved this one and it may be my favorite of the series. Gemma and Jethro have great chemistry. And Jethro has the best banter with the Deep Ops team without being part of the team (his words not the team). I really enjoyed how Wolf adopted Jethro as his best friend (this provided some of the funniest moments). And we still get to see Roscoe being Roscoe. I look forward to seeing if some of the other characters get books.
I like the characters in this series even though they are all really extremely over the top: too beautiful, too confident, too immortal, too smart, and too much in love at the end of the day. But since these are love stories, I can't complain. Jethro and Gemma all in all were not bad, except that Fletcher was paradoxically too smart, until he turned out to be too stupid.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
LOVED this book!!! This is a fast moving book that pits Gemma, a single mother of a toddler, against a psychotic killer - all just because she became friends with Jethro, the killer's brother. Gemma's been hiding from her abusive ex, and worries constantly that he might have found her. Between the two, she doesn't know if she's truly in danger or just experiencing random things.
This is a tightly woven novel that kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible. There's lots of action and a bit of romance, as Gemma and Jethro try to stay ahead of her ex and his brother. The characters are likeable and drew me into their story. I felt invested in the them and wanted them to get their HEA ending.
Fans of the genre will love this book. While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, its so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.
Another great Deep Ops books.... Professor Jethro finally got his own book! :) He meets Gemma who is running from a stalker... After a very bumpy start, they fall in love... Of course, her past comes to haunt them. Luckily, Jethro's friends come and help... As with of Zanetti's books, the camaraderie among the characters are the best part of the book. :) A perfect blend of romance, suspense and action. Another winner by Rebecca Zanetti.!
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
This book was a great addition to the Deep Ops series. Professor Jethro Hanson was introduced in a previous book and now he's finally met his match in Gemma Falls. Gemma has been on the run from a stalker, never settling in one place long. Although their relationship began with a bit of antagonism it didn't take long for these characters to develop feelings for each. Gemma's daughter is an adorable addition to the story and I love how Wolfe has claimed Jethro as his best friend. Jethro really stole the show as the best part of this book. He's really loyal to his friends and even though he and Gemma didn't have the best start he's always looking out for her. I think one of my favourite things about this series is the great quirky group of characters. I really liked how this group of outsiders sticks together to take care of one of their own. Looking forward to Ian's and Oliver's books now.
Why, why do I always find myself living Rebecca's villains?! It's a sickness I swear.
If you're this far into the series you don't need me to tell you that this book is worth reading, but I'll give you the basics...
OK, so I totally forgot about Jethro after Angus and Nari's book. I know, I know... how could I possibly forget Jethro?! So color me tickled pink when I saw Unforgiven as a Netgalley option. I couldn't click request quick enough and the wait was... well the wait for approval was too long. Not really, just ya know it's Rebecca Zanetti.
OK, so we've got yummy former MI6 agent Jethro Hansen and the fairly unapproachable and on the run Gemma Falls in this book. Their stories are incredibly tense. I spent an insane amount of this boom trying to decide WHICH bad guy was the cause of what.
You've got bombs in buildings, slashed tires, Roscoe being Roscoe, more Brits than you can ask for amd Wolfe who makes friends with an adorable toddler.
If you haven't read this far in the series, stop and go pick up Pippa and Malcolm's book Hidden.
Five bright shiny stars.
Such a good read! Rebecca sure knows how to write suspenseful romances that keep you on the edge of your feet throughout. I was so nervous for how the story was gonnaunfold, but never fear, Rebecca always gives us what we need for a satisfying ending for the book. Unforgiven was truly a thriller romance and I'm here for it.
This is the fifth book in Rebecca Zanetti's Deep Ops series. The Deep Ops group are a division of a Federal agency - but they are definitely unconventional and do things their own way. They are a very tightly knit group - and after the last big case - they have adopted Professor Jethro Hanson into their team (whether he wants it or not). Jethro is a philosophy professor - but that is definitely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what he is. When Gemma describes him as a British Indiana Jones - I think she definitely hit the nail on the head.
Gemma Falls has been running, with her toddler daughter, from an abusive and very dangerous ex since she found out she was pregnant. She's landed at DC University to fill in for an old friend for a semester. But every step she makes back into the world leaves her further and further at risk of her ex finding her.
When Jethro and Gemma's very bad pasts collide it is a tense situation that they can only navigate by letting their friends help them and letting each other in.
This book was a perfect blend of action and romance. I adored Jethro in particular. And this group of friends and chosen family were just awesome. Watching them all with Trudy was heart melting - and watching everyone force their way into Jethro and Gemma's lives was both sweet and hilarious.
I definitely recommend this for fans of the romantic suspense and of course Rebecca Zanetti - because are you really a fan of Romantic suspense if you aren't reading Rebecca Zanetti books?
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
Another great story in the Deep Ops series. This one is Jethro and Gemma’s story. We knew there was more to Jethro then him just being a professor. Wow, never could have guessed how lethal the Brit really was. This was a roller coaster ride of wildness. As a reader you never knew what would happen next. The writing is awesome in this book. To make it even better Roscoe the alcoholic German Shepard is back along with a cute little girl. I can’t wait for the next book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Gemma has been on the run for several years. She ran from her fiancé after finding out she was pregnant. He had beat her and she couldn’t put her baby at risk. Now she’s staying at a friend’s apartment and teaching at a college. Jethro was MI6 and now a professor at the same college as Gemma. People start dying and the cops believe it’s Jethro but it’s not. Jethro knows who it is and it’ll take every thing he has to catch him. Gemma doesn’t have time for a relationship and Jethro wants nothing but one night. He believe Gemma is cold hearted and when he tries to help, she will not accept it. Now the killer has focused on Gemma and Jethro will do anything to protect her and her little girl. I love this series but I believe this is my favorite so far. An alcoholic dog, friends ( the kind you can’t get rid of ), and action. Can’t wait for the next one.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
This is absolutely one of my favorite series. The characters are completely lovable. Jethro is a full-time professor and part-time support team member but in this book he has to solve the puzzle of the new professor to save her and her little girl all while he is being framed for multiple murders. The team, including Roscoe, the German shepherd, gather around them to solve the problems and keep them safe. Absolutely one of my favorites.
Somewhat disappointed in this one. Maybe because it did not flow that well. The previous title I read by this author was much better.
However, others who like a hero with a dog and a heroine with a small child might enjoy it.
This is another book in the Deep Op series. This is one of my favorite series. I love all of the character especially Gemma’s young daughter Trudy and our favorite reoccurring alcoholic dog. Each book in this series just gets better
