3.5 the story itself was pretty decent, hut the paving at the start was a bit slow. It definitely have some creep factor but I also didn't necessarily like the characters. The authors last book was so good so I'll definitely read more as they come out.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader copy of the audiobook. The story was decent overall, but it wasn't quite my preference. However, I really enjoyed the sibling road trip perspective, with the phone calls to the dad along the way.

What did I just read?!

A Black and Endless Sky has a slow start, but keep reading and you'll find a gripping supernatural survival story.

Siblings Jonah and Nell Talbot used to be inseparable, but have been distant, and hope to mend their broken relationship on a cross-county road trip. A strange accident happens to Nell somewhere in the Nevada desert, and as the journey continues, the change in her is revealed.

This trip takes a minute to get invested in, but keep at it for an ending you don't want to miss!

Both hardcore crime novel and cosmic horror, this piece is ultimately about the bonds of a not-so-perfect family.

This is an on possession novel but nothing I will go back to. This story follows Jonah and Nell as they go on a road trip after Jonah marriage failed. While in the desert Nell finds herself blacking out only to be possessed by a demon. From here we follow the sibling fleeing from biker gangs and hunters.
After reading the synopsis of this book I was really excited to read this one the first few chapters had me hooked and then somehow this book became pretty slow and had trouble keeping me engaged. I did really enjoyed some of the things that happened and thought the descriptions were interesting just was expecting more. I did listen to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrators they were easy to listen to understand. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

This book is a crazy wild ride! It is one of those strange and unusual books that I just couldn’t get enough of. The author said it is The Blues Brothers meets The Exorcist and I feel that is fairly accurate. It is a dark adventure, action, road trip story that is not for everyone. The fight scenes are excellent!

This was a slow burn horror novel. We follow 2 siblings on a road trip home after the brothers divorce. Personally, this felt more like a sibling drama with a little horror thrown in. I enjoy a slow burn, but this one was a little too slow for me. Maybe it was because I listened on audio, but it seemed to drag in a lot of places.

Jeez, I've had some really tough look with books lately. This originally grabbed me and I was excited to go along for the ride, but there were too many tone shifts that didn't feel purposeful and made the whole of the story not connect.

I literally couldn’t put this book down from the moment I picked it up. Brother and sister on a mission. A weird mix of sci fi and supernatural horror. Definitely had me guessing throughout the book and took a turn I did not see coming. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Jonah and Nell, siblings that have grown apart, take a road trip after Jonah goes through a divorce. The road trip certainly doesn’t go as planned, and this was twisty and with challenges of all sorts. A bit gory at times, it was full of adventure and excitement.

This is my first experience with Lyons' writing - but I have to say that I really enjoyed listening to this spooky story. With what feels like a full cast narrator, this book opens with a mysterious buried door in the desert and quickly moves from that eerie opening to a more mundane start. Nell drove north from Albuquerque to San Francisco to pick up her older brother for a road trip back to New Mexico in the wake of his divorce. The siblings had once been close, but Nell resents Jonah's sudden departure years before. Still, she looks forward to reconnecting with him on the trip back. The story unfolds with a real cinematic flair. Nell tries to bring back her brother's fighting spirit - stirring up trouble at a biker bar. But soon, the biker gang isn't the only one after them. Though a bit light on some overall answers, there are some genuinely unsettling moments here - especially when it becomes clear that something is happening inside of Nell...

Fast-paced and well-performed, I definitely found myself listening to this one at every opportunity. It's spooky and the visual details add to make this an even more captivating story as the listener can practically smell the cigarette smoke, experience the weather and feel chills from all that is not quite right... I am definitely looking forward to reading (or listening) to more from Lyons in the future!

Brother and sister, Jonah and Nell, were once best friends but secrets made them estranged for years. As Jonah's marriage ends, he decides to head back home and for a reason, even he doesn't understand he invites his sister to go along for the long ride from San Francisco to Albuquerque.

It takes no time at all for the battling siblings to start fighting with each other and an unscheduled stop to cool off becomes one of the biggest mistakes they can make.

Even the events that happen in an out-of-the-way bar is nothing compared to what happens in the desert to Nel.

I have to say, I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this tale of a dark and menacing being taking hold of one of the pair. Been there, done that.
But I was wrong. Very wrong.

What a story! Every character has a reason to be liked and hated. I found myself cheering for both sides, not sure who was the bad guy and who was the hero. Now that does not happen often.
The novel kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me up many nights as I listened to the Audiobook, heart-pounding as the story sped through my head.
Over and over, Lyons proved that little gets between family. As my siblings and I used to say, "I can fight with my brother or sister but I will fight you if you even try!"

The narrations by Narrated by Hillary Huber; Neil Hellegers; Amara Jasper; Pat Grimes; Qarie Marshall was pure orchestrated joy.

You have to get this book. I highly suggest you do it as an Audiobook to get the full creepy feeling of every sentence.

To start, this book was extremely long winded. It took me quite a while to get through it. In my opinion, there were a lot of unnecessary parts that didn’t have much to do with the story.

The good however was that the action scenes were great. It had a lot of detail and I could easily picture everything. The book wasn’t scary per day but it was moderately entertaining. I liked Jonah and Nell’s characters and their characters development.

All in all, it wasn’t a bad book. I would recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First let me say this book had a pretty good premise of two siblings going on a road trip yet they can’t stand each other. Jonah and Nell used to be close but they are no longer close since Jonah left 12 years ago. Now 12 years later Jonah is getting divorced and so they must travel cross-country back to their hometown. But something happens to Nell along the way and then she starts having some sort of visions and things go very wrong.

Now this book was not really for me. I found it to be very boring at times and couldn’t force myself to listen to it. I’m not sure if it’s the writing, the book itself, or the narrators. The female narrator’s voice sounded like a computer reading a book the whole time. The male narrator was far more interesting. I will honestly try again to read this book physically to see if that’s better. I would recommend you try the book as well just don’t do the audio.

I typically don't listen to audiobooks for two reasons. 1. I actually like to read and 2. the narrator rarely narrates a book using the same inflection points, pauses, and nuances that I read in, in my head. So, with that said, I think the audiobook was in large part a reason why I didn't like this book as much as I'd hoped I would. I like the idea of the book and I don't mind gore, but I just couldn't get in to it. I am going to try reading the book and see if it makes a difference. Honestly, the book is probably a solid 4, but the narrator drops it to a 3 for me.

An interesting take on the possession trope, and has an interesting cast of characters. I really enjoyed how gritty and fast-paced this was. The action scenes really heightened my enjoyment of this for me. I appreciated the random and amusing phrases that some of the characters used to describe scenes. The narration was excellent and really made me feel like this needs to be a film like now.

I'll admit that it took me a few chapters before I connected with this story, but once I did it took me on a wild ride full of weird Lovecraftian ideas, suspense, and family drama.

The dynamic between the brother and sister was dysfunctional, but relatable. As the story progresses, secrets become unveiled and they two siblings must figure out how to handle things before it's too late.

Highly recommend to fans of supernatural horror/suspense.
