The description and title for this book had me intrigued. I’ve always been a sucker for a good “mysterious disappearance” story that keeps you guessing about what happened This book delivered! Sometimes stories can get a bit confusing when there are flashbacks but I liked how in this book the flashbacks instead give you another glimpse into the character’s story. As I read this book I kept thinking it would make a great movie. I look forward to reading some more work by this author!
I received this arc from net galley in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve read books by Lesley Sanderson before and was really pleased to get this new one.
Tom is married to Rachel until he meets Heidi, some time later Tim disappeared and now nearly seven years later Rachel is counting down the days until she can have him declared dead in order to restart her life. Heidi reappears and at first Rachel is glad of someone who knows what she is going through, however things soon take a sinister twist and Rachel isn’t sure who or what to believe.
I would highly recommend this book and will look out for more books in future
The main plot of this story had me hooked. The writing was well done. The characters were well developed and relatable. There were dome shocking twists but I had guessed fairly early on what was really going on. I skimmed some parts that were a bit too slow. All in all a decent domestic thriller.
Its been almost 7 years to the day that Tom has been missing. Now its time for him to be legally delared dead so Rachel and her kids can finally start really moving on.. That is until a mysterious note shows up at her door.. just when she has decided that she can start dating again.. the note says he wants to come home.. and its in her husbands handwriting... Is it just a stupid prank? or could Tom have really been out there somehwere just living his life with no thought to his wife and children?.. Also would Rachel even want him back at this point? Before he disappeared he had left Rachel and gone to live with his mistress... When Rachel decides to reach out to Heidi.. the dreaded mistress... she starts a chain of events that will shake her confidence in the people in her life and herself..
I found this book both interesting and entertaining. Its told in two different timelines, before and after Tom went missing....There were some parts that kept me on the edge of my seat, and some parts that were surprising.. Although I was definitely right to be wary of a certain character.. and kept yelling at Rachel for letting this person into her and her childrens lives.. I was expecting alot of drama and secrets about Tom to be revealed.. there were a couple but nothing to surprising... The final reveal and how it came about was pretty enjoyable, and I would read from this author again in the future.
Omg!!!! Wow wow wow. Yes this book. If you love a good physiological thriller do not miss this one. I promise you, you will not be able to put it down!!
Just the kind of sinister, chilling thriller I was looking to read. Tom disappeared almost 7 years Ago, after dumping his wife, Rachel;. But now she is receiving notes supposedly from him saying he wants to come back.
The time line goes back and forth to allow readers to see the build up. The pressure mounts and the tension is very thick. I suspected one person immediately with the clues the author planted.
It’s a fast paced read and it gives credence to the past can haunt you, but only if you let it.
Rachel’s husband Tom disappeared almost seven years ago. At the time he had moved in with Heidi whom he had been having an affair with but still saw his two children and had been talking to Rachel. Rachel receives a hand delivered note which she believes is in Tom’s hand writing saying he wants to come back. She isn't sure if this is a prank as everything possible was done to try and find him. It's not long until he can legally be declared dead which would help her financially as she has been struggling since he left. Can Tom still be alive and why choose now to want to come back?
I quickly got into this and found it a good premise. There's lots going on especially with the family life not being straight forward which kept the pages turning. A good tension, a few secrets and curveballs here and there to me showing the skills of an excellent author. A page turner of a read I thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely had me guessing...and then when you think you have it figured out, it's more complicated than you thought! The main character was very likable. The story is narrated by both the wife and the mistress which allows you to get into both of their heads a little more. The man in the relationship has disappeared for seven years...they both want to know what happened but it seems neither one wants him back!
i so love this author s books never disapoints. Rachel is married to Tom they have two children Lara and Josh. but Tom had an affair and left the family home and moved in with Heidi. but one night Tom never goes home and has been missing for seven years. Rachel trys to get on with her life has the loft converted and she will be able to claim the insurance money now its been seven years. but then she gets a letter through the door in Tom handwriting i want to come back .then Heidi comes back in to there life .and other things start happening to i so very much enjoyed so recommend
In this story, a man who had recently left his wife and children for his mistress disappears. Seven years go by without a word. Is he dead, or did he leave his life to start over? I found this book interesting with a few lulls, but overall, it was believable and enjoyable.
Rachel's husband disappeared seven years and the time has finally come for her to declare him legally dead. Of course that doesn't go as planned when letters start to appear claiming to be from her dead husband. Is he really alive? Has he been kidnapped? Is this all a prank?
I loved the cast of different characters in this book and how they interacted. This book definitely kept me guessing and I did not see the ending coming.
Thanks to the publisher and author for this ARC.
I thought the premise of this book sounded great, unfortunately it all felt a bit flat. Even the parts that should have been exciting didn’t deliver for me. It took me a while to get into and I was glad when I’d finished the book.
Thanks to NetGalley for my advanced reading copy.
4* A good intro to this author, and an decent tale until things became too clear a little too quickly.
Though I don't love 1stPPOV and especially not in present tense, this was good enough to make me want to read it and the author did the suspense parts pretty well.
I liked that it had a very English feel to it, and none of the gloss and faux-feeling high drama that an American take on a situation like this could have had. I liked Rachel and her kids but was a little taken aback at how trusting and a little naive she was. The author did well with the red herrings but at the same time, Rachel was confronted with proof of her suspicions and still didn't act on them quick enough to make this feel realistic. But, things tied in realistically, and there were some decent side characters who had her back and the tale was still good enough to make me want to read more from her.

Good psychological thriller keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters were interesting, the plot was great and the style of writing was perfect. A quick read with plenty of twists and turns throughout. I have read many books by this author and they were all excellent, looking forward to the next book already. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading this genre. Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the copy of The Widow’s Husband. I loved the beginning of the book and the idea that Rachel’s husband might be alive. I was surprised she didn’t have a door cam and that she didn’t think to ask neighbors if they had one right away. I also liked how her daughter was at the rebellious stage and the issues they had because of it.
Rachel was pretty naive though, and I started to lose interest in the story. For Rachel to have carried a torch for him after almost seven years after he betrayed her didn’t make sense. None of the other characters were likable either.
This wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t great for me. Readers who are ok with unlikable characters will still enjoy this story, because it IS interesting and the conclusion was unexpected.
This book was definitely a winner for me, thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend to all. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for providing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another Bang from the author. It should be titled The Good Husband. It was funny. I really enjoy such type of thrillers. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture.
Keep guessing…is he alive? Is he dead? Where is he? This novel kept me guessing from the beginning…the author has written a story of life and love…friendship…family…a tale woven together by a talented author…grab a warm Afghan…a steaming cup of your favorite tea…a muffin or yummy scone…prepare for an afternoon of wondering…guessing…plotting…these characters are realistic…this could be a true whodunit…enjoy…
This book started off well but then hit a stagnant period about a third way through. I did wonder if Rachel left her 12 year old daughter alone one evening while she went out for a meal with Freddie, maybe I missed something about a babysitter but it wasn’t obvious. I also found the present tense objective narrative strange i.e. Rachel looks through the window. It would have been a little easier to read if Rachel, herself was the narrator, as in, I looked through the window. I think the basic storyline was good but it dragged on a little too much for me with a plot that wasn’t quite complex enough.
Wow ! What a brilliant read this was . I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way to late finishing it .
Rachel and her two kids are trying to get on with their lives after her husband just disappeared almost 7 years ago , it’s just approaching the time when she can declare him officially dead , and she is looking ahead , she has tentatively started a new relationship with an old friend, she is remodelling the house they shared and things are finally looking up . When she receives a letter , she recognises the handwriting , it’s from her husband saying that he wants to come back . She is astounded , not least because before he left he had moved in with another woman .
This was a real page turner and very entertaining to read
A definite 5 stars
